These folks not only are kind to our kids but they treat us well too and know a thing or two about grooming. He usually can't wait to get out of Pet Smart..."Daddy Take me home!!!" He didn't want to leave. It was like...Oh..you again, ok I'll come home, but um...whats for dinner?" You think I am kidding? I chose May to write this review because Ms. Kat Brooks, Owner of Dog A Do is not only a CHAMPION GROOMER (over 25 yrs experiences) she is a retired military veteran who proudly served our country and I thank you for your service. Also this month makes 20 years I've been bringing my furry boys (dogs) Toby and Oliver to Dog A Do for beautiful grooming! What makes Dog A Do the most spectacular grooming salon you will find in any state...prices are good... but most important they really care about animals all animals! All the groomers from Kat to Tania... are lifelong pet parents just like us and I am always amazed at how they work to go above and beyond to make every single customer (pet parent) and their pets happy! Cause they care! From a puppy's 1st bath to using extra special care with senior dog or working together as a team when grooming a pet with health conditions like arthritis they take just great care and always professional! Due to my job, I'm required to travel weekly across the U.S. but I ensure that my travel plans include coming to Herndon, VA to have my Ollie groomed by Tania or Kat at Dog A Do every 2 - 4 weeks...they are by far the best at what they do. My Ollie can't get out of the car fast enough and race up to the door wagging his tail with excitement to see Terrell, front desk manager always greets us with a huge smile & Ollie can't wait to see him... which tells me they treat him well. Ollie always smells wonderful and his fur always soft, trimmed perfectly. His bow tie is made special for him every visit and he is so proud to be wearing. Everyone compliments me on how nice he looks every time. Of course he is just really a handsome dog! But with excellent grooming, he really stands out. Excellent work and spot-on customer service. This place is a hidden gem!! There are some things to know before heading over there, so you are not surprised: the hours are listed as 7:30 - 4, but these guys can get a little busy and in my experience they take dogs from 7:30 - noon. It's cash only and the shop is open Mon-Tuesday, Thursday-Saturday. Be ready to remove all collars and leashes and take them with you when you leave your pet. The price is comparable to the PetCos of the world, but the product is much better. I think a bath, haircut and nail clip for both of my dogs runs me about $150 after tip. If I can't get my guys into Dog A Doo Salon on a particular day, then I will wait until I can. My guys don't go anywhere else anymore! And the bandanna that my dogs always come out wearing is a nice touch!! read more

I've been taking my Bichon to Dog A Do Salon for 6 years. In the past Ive always encounter Terrell behind the counter and he was always polite and gracious when I came into the sLon. Though the salon does a good job shaving my dog every month, customer service is a big deal breaker for me since I'm in customer service myself. Today when I went into the salon to pick up my pet I asked the gentleman why the rate keeps fluctuating since the pandemic. As I was writing the check he told me because my dog got a bath and hair cut. I tried to explain to him that my dog got the same exact service for the last 6 years. He didn't want to hear what I was trying to say and I push the check to him and accidentally brushed his hand. He then jump back and said " Please don't touch me." He was now making the interaction about racism. Something I never felt in this salon before. I'm a 65 year old white woman who probably couldn't hurt a 30 something 6 foot man black man. After I got the feeling he was going to go down the racism road I quickly stooped communicating with him and got my dog. As I was ready to walk out the door I asked What's your name? He said " WILLIAM " Now I because of this interaction I will never take my dog back there again. It's a shame because I always tried to support small business in the area and I've sent so many people to the salon. I feel sorry for the owner, she is going to loss a lot of business by employing William and especially having him at the front desk. They do a really job cleaning and styling the dogs and they seem to really like dogs. Only real complaint is the check/cash only policy.

I love everything about Dog a Do! Professional and courteous staff. Timely finish. Call when ready. My dog looks perfect as they are good about listening to direction on cut preference. Most importantly, I've had a hard time at other salons about dewclaw trim. Not with Dog a Do. The staff is highly trained. My dog loves the homemade PB cookie at the end of grooming. I have been taking my 40 lb poodle mix there for 4 years. They do a nice job and I trust them with my dog. Two things I especially like are that the dogs are kept in crates in the same room as the groomers so they are always under observation and they call you as soon as your dog is finished -- you don't have to leave your dog there most of the day. The staff is polite but not necessarily super friendly - I think they are just very busy. That said, if you have questions they are receptive and attentive. Price is a bit high but I feel they are worth it for the quality of service and peace of mind. read more

We've been bringing puppy here for a few years for his grooming needs. Their grooming area is an open space that you can see when you walk in. They have about 6 tables in the front and you can watch em cut the dogs' furs. Their prices are reasonable, although it is a cash only place....and they call you as soon as your dog is ready (if you request for ASAP call). I'll bring puppy in at 8a, and usually by 9:30a he's ready to be picked up. Love it -- (no thirsty puppy running for water when we get home). I have noticed that the cuts aren't always the straightest, but it's barely noticeable and not enough to bark about. read more

I couldn't have been more pleased. When I made the first appointment, I informed them our former groomer kept our golden in a crate for hours and his bladder was ready to burst when I picked him up. We took our dog here as we were looking for someplace new to get him groomed and get his baths. First of all when you walk in the place, it is very small and it was an absolute zoo. Our dog's appt. was scheduled for 12:00 and I was told it would take a couple of hours and that they would call me. So, when 2 1/2 hours went by, I called to check to see how things were going and how much longer it was going to be. It took the woman that answered the phone 5 minutes to even realize who I was and to know which dog I was inquiring about, even after describing him and telling her his name multiple times, I finally heard a guy in the background saying it will be another hour and a half. I then asked her what they had done and she said they had given him a bath and he was sitting in a crate waiting for his grooming. I was livid that they had our wet dog just sitting in a crate. First of all my appt. was at 12:00 and it was now 2:30, so I told woman on the phone do not do another thing to our dog and that I would be there in a few minutes to pick him up. I go to pick him up, they bring him out and he looked like he had not even been touched and I asked her what they had done to him as she told me he had a bath, and she responded by saying, oh I thought he had a bath, but he did not. I was extremely unhappy and let them know it. Then one of the guy groomers comes over and starts yelling at me telling me how busy they are. I told him we will never bring our dog there again and let him know I would be writing a bad review, to which he responded that is fine, look at all the dogs we have here. Oh, and let me not forget when I got home with our dog, they had done something funky to his tail and part of his fur is missing. This was an absolutely horrible experience and I would not recommend bringing your dog here! read more

Been taking my 3 dogs there for years. My golden retriever Rudy loved the place. They are gentle with all the animals. I also have 2 King Charles cavaliers that go about 4 times a year for baths,hair trim and nails done. They even get a nice little scarf to wear home. Would be great to do monthly but can't afford that. I always tip the groomer as it is usually a perfect job. read more

I have taken my golden doodle to Dog a Do for the past several years.....NO MORE! For the increased price of $92 for my dog to be groomed, I also found out that he was nicked so bad that it required a trip to our vet that resulted in buying a special topical and collar for my dog to wear until the cut heals. I was never told of the injury when I picked up and paid for my dog's grooming. I left a message on Dog a Do's voicemail a few days after it happened asking for them to call me and send me an email so I could send them a picture of the injury. I did not hear from them. Dog a Do also has added a waiver on the card when you check in your pet that says you won't hold them liable for any nicks and injuries received at their salon. That alone should have told me something! read more

I took my two chichons to Dog-a-Do Salon in Herndon this morning. They look fantastic and both look very happy! The staff at Dog-a-Do is extremely gentle both with the pets and their owners: they are happy to answer questions and listen to how the owner wants their pet to look. I arrived 20 min late to my appointment because I got lost - Dog-a-Do was very understanding and welcomed me with open arms. I can't say how much I appreciated their positive, clean, energetic environment. Most importantly my chichons looked professionally groomed and were happily trotting around the staff when I came to pick them up. I can tell they were handled with utmost care and gentleness. And may I add they were both completely groomed in less than 3 hours. read more

I was referred to Dog A Do, by another groomer because my dog's groomer is sick. I have a Portuguese Water Dog and spoke to Kat before I brought her in about cutting my dog with scissors and not a clipper. When I went to pick up my dog, I was mortified at what she looked like. She shaved my dog to the skin! When I told them that this is not what I wanted they explained that my dog's hair was matted which is why they shaved her to her skin. They never once called to ask, they just shaved her hair, even though I specifically said I did not want her shaved. Since Kat was not there when I picked up my dog, I had to call her. Once I finally reached Kat, I told her I was not happy and that we had discussed not using clippers. Unfortunately, the customer is always right does not mean anything to Kat because she started screaming at me over the phone. I will never go back to Kat or recommend her to anyone. I have already called the groomer that recommended me to her and they will not be forwarding her any more business. I will also post this comment to every website I find regarding her business. All Kat had to was pick up the phone to say they would not/could not cut my dogs hair and I would have taken her somewhere else. She could have apologized and ripped up my invoice instead she blamed me and was downright rude and obnoxious. Clearly, Dog A Do was looking for a quick $100 and did the least amount of work possible. read more

Our dogs are 2 spoiled Poms and not use to a lot of people. They don't seem scared or anxious when we pick them up. They always look great. They are our Babies. They love their bandanas. It is a Mother and Pup (male). They both love clothes and the boy hates for me to take his bandana off. He loves it. The mom loves being fussed over and she also loves her bandana. She is so prissy in it. So funny. We hope the service stays as it is, we don't want to ever change. Our dogs are elderly now so gentleness is very important to us. Go Dog a Do!!!! read more

It's been over 15 years since I first had a dog groomed by Kat Brooks. I had an Airedale - He had been groomed several places - Kat was actually filling in for the person that I had scheduled with to do the grooming. This was the first time my dog came home from grooming strutting his stuff, he was a KING. Every since this grooming I was a Kat Brooks/Dog-a-do Fan. My next dog was a Cocker Spaniel - not knowing much about the breed, I was also educated as to how to take care of the ears and what to look out for. My cocker refused to go in a crate at home -- but when it was her SPA Day at Dog-A-Do - she would pick her crate and wait her turn. She loved her day and always looked awesome. There's not much that will turn me off faster than poor customer service. There to many businesses out there who will appreciate my money too spend it with someone who does not. I went to have my dog groomed today. I walked my dog to my car on his leash with his collar on. I took off the leash and drove to the groomer. I then carried my dog into the groomer and haned them my dog. When I picked my dog up the girl pulled him from the kennel and handed him to me. He had a bandana on so I didn't notice the missing collar. When I arrived home I went to attach the leash and realized he did not have his collar on. No big deal, mistakes happen. The problem comes from how mistakes are handled. When I called to let them know I was met with instant denial and blame. There was aparently no possibility they could have made a mistake. First they said they gave it to me. Then they said he never had one on. Then they said they would let me know if they found it. They assured me I would get a phone call but that never happened. I drove up before they closed and was basicly told tough luck and was informed they sold collars at target. This grooming cost me an extra $20 but it cost them a customer. A little customer service goes a long ways. Its just a collar and with a different attitude and maybe an apology it would have been no big deal but thats not what happened. read more

They take walk ins which is great for me. My second time here this AM and the gentleman at the counter remembered us which was nice. A neighbor referred me to Dog A Do, I took our Bichon Frise there, and was soooo pleased. We'd tried Pet Smart and Petco, and they just hacked him up - he looked pretty bad, his fur was all different lengths. Dog A Do did such a nice job- he hasn't looked this good in a long time. We moved to NOVA last fall, so glad we finally found a good groomer. I had to take him to the vet today, and he got so many compliments - even my husband thought he looked awesome! I have two small dogs, one is 7yrs and one is 3yrs, and I have been to many a groomer! Dog A Do has been pretty consistant and they do a great job. I've been told that they will even do a touch-up in between groomings for $5-$10 depending on the size of your dog. The staff is very knowledgable about types of dogs and how they should be groomed, but will listen to you if you have another way that you prefer to have your dog cut. They are very nice there and can have both of my dogs done in 4hrs. Price is good, about as much as you would pay to have two small dogs groomed at PetsMart, but they look perfessionally groomed and at PetsMart you just get what you get. I will note that they only except cash or checks...no credit cards. read more

By far the worst salon! I took my little dog here to get a cut, before even making the appointment i called dog a do and spoke with a gentlemen who told me they handle all types of dogs and that i did not have to worry. My dog was cut in the past at another salon so she is a little more sensitive and scared but the gentlemen told me not to worry that we handle all types of dogs from scared to aggressive. We drop our dog and around 1130 i called them to ask how long it would be and the man told me 30 mins he called me back 10 mins later saying she was done. i had someone go pick up her since i was given incorrect info and was not in the area. When i come home to see my dog i was so shocked when i saw that my dog's lower eyelid was slit open most likely by the razor. Forget even offering to take my dog to the vet they did not even have the decency to tell me over the phone on what had happened. They just waited till someone came to pick her up and then blamed it on my dog saying she got scared and moved, they should have taken precautions to make sure the dogs are safe. I left them a couple of voicemails for them to call me back and never heard back from anyone. My dog will most likely need stitches and if anything the least they can do it pay for the damages they caused by paying the vet bills, according to my vet they normal procedure is that they call the pet owner to notify them and then have them taken to the vet immediately. I will not be letting this matter go and i would advise all pet owners to be careful bringing their dogs here as this place do not care about the safety of these dogs at all!!! read more

We took our labradoodle in for a regular grooming this past Saturday. When I picked her up and left, I was unpleasantly surprised by what the groomer had done. First of all, she was not groomed as she normally was over the last 6 or 7 years. Her face was cut way too short and they shaved her face so close and in a manner it had never been trimmed before. We don't like to see skin on her face. What was so drastically different was that the 4 inch long hair on her tail had been entirely cut off. She no longer had her beautiful plume. Now let me add that it was not requested to be all cut off and had never been done before. We're not sure what they were thinking. I doubt that we will return after being a satisfied customer for quite a long time. At least the hair will grow but the tail will take a while. read more

We've taken both our dogs here for years, on recommendation of our vet. We get them in early and get them back quickly. The dogs are cowards, but they don't mind being groomed here. They come back gorgeous and no worse for wear. The groomers got to know them by name and we've never had a bad "haircut" on either dog. They're the best. read more
