My best friend and I had lunch to go from Ryus Ave Bakery on our little trip to La Veta. And we enjoyed every single bite! We both had the Ryus Ave Special sandwich, but I substituted my slaw for avocado which was more like guacamole which is even better!! I had some guacamole over flow onto my plate which I had chips to scoop it up with and I was in heaven! Also, we had the Lemon Greek Soup which honestly I wasn't sure about but my taste buds were blown away! My friend and I are from Fort Worth TX and this was our first lil get away together. I was a lil worried about our eating situation since it was a small town and with covid going on. But this was the best lunch I've had in a while. The customer service was very nice and felt like that comfortable feeling of being in a small town. I admire them and their hard work to keep warm delicious food in the belly's of the local people who help support them. Beautiful bakery and town. I hope to get to come back again and will definitely make this the lunch spot. read more

Not to be missed! They are only open every other day, so be sure to buy for today AND tomorrow. The croissants are heavenly, and my dad said the blueberry danish was "really really really good!" The baked selections change daily. They will slice the bread for you if you want. Hint: try the avocado toast with bacon. They add some green chili to the avo --just enough to wake it up. read more

La Veta has a population of ~800 based on the 2010 census. With that the odds of them having the best bakery in the universe is something like 1,000,000,000,000,00 : 1 but they did it. Holy cow. Several treats not pictured but everything we had including brownies, Asiago loaf, jalapeño cheddar loaf, breakfast croissant sandwich, chocolate chip cookies, almond croissant, cream cheese danish and chocolate croissant were all 5-star. We were in LaVeta for a week and were hooked. Bravo to the owners. read more

Omg. We stayed in town and out AirBnB owner recommended this place. I had also spied on Yelp. Nothing better than a bakery with great products... Tuesday we went and had fluffy melt in your mouth scones. Amazing. So we could hardly pass up Thursday's green chili bacon croissant. Shoot ... could have eaten more of them. Honestly the best croissants I've had in my entire life - and I have lived in Paris! Highly recommend spending a bit of time on the adorable patio to enjoy your baked goods while soaking in all that fresh mountain air. This bakery/restaurant is of itself a good reason to go to La Veta. Open 3 days a week so check their schedule. On Saturday morning the line (mostly to go) was almost out the door by 7:30. Pastries are amazing. Breakfast sandwiches have incredibly fluffy eggs with a breakfast meat of choice, cheese, avocado, roasted red peppers and a spicy sauce. Breads are fresh and delicious. I'm a New Yorker and I've lived in Paris but, I am not exaggerating when I say that the Ryus Ave Bakery is one of my all time favorite bakeries. Some bakeries do breads really well and others do sweets really well but, here you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. Each of the three days that they're open they have different breads... again you can't go wrong but, the jalapeno-cheese bread has always been a favorite of mine. In the summer, when things get crazy busy, it's still worth the wait. If you come in the winters it's much calmer and there is a different delicious soup on the menu everyday or sometimes some kind of wonderful tart/quiche. If you happen to be visiting Santa Fe and are interested in going for a drive I'd head up to La Veta just for the Ryus Ave Bakery. In short, I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

I just visited Ryus Avenue Bakery on my way out of town after spending the week in the mountains in Cuchara. It was amazing! Unfortunately I did not take any pictures, but I had the Ryus Avenue Special (sandwich) and it was so delicious. I highly recommend it! I also had an iced caramel latte which was the perfect pick me up for the trip home. If you are ever passing through La Veta, or in Cuchara looking for somewhere to eat other than the dog bar, head to Ryus Avenue! Friendly staff and fast service as well. I've primarily lived in the Atlanta area with no shortage of amazing bakeries, and I think this has to be one of the best I've ever been to. This is not just based on tasting one item. I asked for one of everything in their counter and brought it back to my family to share and sample everything. That included savory croissants, chocolate croissants, bear claws, salted chocolate chip cookies, three different types of cheese danishes, cinnamon rolls, and three different types of quiches. I am not kidding when I say every one of them was delicious. Number one favorite was the savory croissant (cheese, chilis, ham), and number two favorite was the mixed berry cheese danish. The salted chocolate chip cookie was amazing, and the quiches were very well done and hearty with an excellent crust. Extra kudos to these bakers who are accomplishing all this at 8000 feet elevation. My waist is happy to find out they are only open three days a week! read more

I have to say I was surprised when I ate here. I had never eaten in La Vita and a friend invited us to this cute little bakery/restaurant. Most of these little natural/organic places in Denver are over priced and food is just alright. I am not into just eating organic so when I go to these places I never get my hopes up too high. We had the lamb burger and the chorizo pizza and for desert we had a lemon and carrot cake. Even the Tea was outstanding. Omg people I have to say this place was well worth the trip and the price!!! All the vegetables and meat come from their ranch that they operate. At least that is what I was told. You have to stop in here and have a lunch or brunch! I guarantee you will love it! read more

This is the greatest place in town to give you that local flavor. They have limited hours though and I mean limited. Currently, they are open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from about 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. Their menus are just on the while boards so you can choose from soups, sandwiches and salads all which are made fresh that minute and served by the locals. The baked goods, cakes, pies, pastries and breads are divine and need to be bought as soon as you see them in the case. The next customer will pick them up and you will be out of luck. I love their almond cookies and focaccia bread. I usually order some kind of salad for lunch and am never disappointed. They also have great sandwiches and special items for breakfast, This bakery is just across from the park so when the tourists unload from the noon train it can get busy. You can eat inside or out or even take it over to the park. Stop in if you are in town when its open and enjoy. This is a true gem! read more

What a great find. We had to come here twice for breakfast. This is a true farm to table establishment owned by a nice french woman - who clearly knows everyone in town. Bakers, farmers, she even uses meats from a local farmer. The baked goods are unbelievable, breakfast was fantastic; the skillet, the omelet and the croissant sandwich. Lunch looked great but we didn't make it there for lunch. This is a very comfortable place and we'll be back. read more

Stopped through on our way from Taos back to Denver. Food was fabulous! Clearly farm to table exactly as advertised. This place could easily compete with Denver's best farm to table restaurants. I had the Parmesan encrusted BLT and beet salad and my bf had the strawberry challa bread French toast. Both were unbelievable!! read more

So good that the line is out the door with locals and tourists. A world class bakery with authentic butter croissants, seeded baggets, fresh fruit pies and tarts, and a long list of other goodies. Limited hours of Tu, Th, Sa from 7 to 2. Worth the wait. One of the two owners is a member of the bakers' guild. Organic whole grain breads are to die for. We love this place! read more
