I started noticing he would growl when I touched him, which was very out of character. At first, I didn't think much of it, but as it worsened, I examined him more closely and was shocked to discover scabbed areas under both of his front legs, resembling severe rugburn. After another hike, I checked him immediately upon return and found his front legs raw and bleeding in multiple spots, with his fur matted in tight knots. I took him to urgent care, and the veterinarian confirmed the wounds were fresh trauma. My dog is 8 years old and very active, but because he's never been off leash before, I had specifically requested that he be kept leashed on hikes. The other dogs were off-leash, and I worry that while trying to keep up with the group, the handler, Caitlin, may have dragged him when he couldn't keep pace. I reached out to Mary for an explanation but received no clear response or indication of concern for my dog's condition. I asked Mary if she would cover the vet bill. Instead, she said she wanted to speak directly with my vet. When I brought that request to my vet, they informed me that she did not have a right to access my pet's medical information due to HIPAA laws. Despite everything, I was kind enough to let the situation go--but I refused to pay the bill for the hike where my dog was injured. Now Mary is charging my account anyway. A good business owner would have shown concern and at the very least offered an apology. Instead, she has shown no empathy and no accountability. This experience was incredibly distressing. I cannot recommend Merrypets based on what happened and how poorly it was handled. My dog has had no more injuries since he stopped going out with Merry Pets. He's happy again and no longer growls at me.

TL;DR Our dog Piper died 2 days after her stay. I wish communication was more direct. I wish I was…read moregiven the opportunity to care better for my pet. I wish that the "permission to transport and treat" I signed was used more aggressively to help my dog. Did they communicate? yes. Did they communicate well? In my opinion, no. You can see pictures for communications and decide for yourself, but I wanted to share my experience incase this is not the place for your pup, especially if they have medication needs like mine did. When I picked her up, a caretaker had to physically lift her from the couch and carry her out. I wish I didn't just take a photo, but a video. Piper had stayed many times before but this was the first since she developed diabetes. I was told they could still care for her. Every time prior she would get "tummy issues" because she was a nervous dog and that cutesy language was enough to communicate in instances prior. This last time, not so much. I wish that this did not happen and i was not writing this review. I wish that I could have given my pet a better end if this was her ultimate end because of her diabetes. I hope that DogMode takes Piper's end and uses clear and direct language moving forward. On a customer care note I also will convey that when I went in to talk to the manager about my dogs death, I was told they could not meet and turned away. I had to return several hours later, in which time they took to call the emergency vet and illegally obtain my dogs records. I also felt a violation when I did get to speak with the manager when they insinuated my dog would have died anyway from her diabetes.
