They do a good job with haircuts but I think are overwhelmed with customers and workers seemed like they need more support. Maybe new management? Not only was my dog terribly shaven down ... way more than was asked for - the service was absolutely terrible. First off, I knew my dog had matts which was communicated very early on when I set the appt as we also did some dematting back at home. This was not my dog's first grooming appointment but it was his first appt at looking groomers. After I dropped him off and spoke to the girl in front - I had a gut feeling that something wasn't right and should have trusted that. The energy and vibe was just completely negative and the service attitude was horrid. The only thing I appreciated was the call that my dog had to get shaven down a little - but they were so rude when I called back to check on a pick up time. I received responses which made me feel like I had to apologize for calling. They would place me hold and then pick up saying "what?" in a curt tone and responded with attitude and that "he is not doing well and don't come until we call you". In addition they kept saying "since this is his first time we're not going to dematt him and shave him instead". I communicated several times that this was NOT his first time and that he had been groomed and could get dematted. I asked to avoid shaving his head and face and to please not cut his eyelashes since that has nothing to do with dematting.... ************* When they saw my reaction when picking up my dog they had zero empathy or remorse. I was SHOCKED at how different and terrible he looked my heart just stopped. Even though they completely shaved him they still charged me for dematting...and said "it was a lot of work". I was shocked and so horrified that I didn't even argue I just paid and wanted to leave to soak in sadness of bringing home a completely different looking dog. I even specifically asked them NOT to cut his eyelashes because his are especially long .. and guess what, they SNIPPED them all off. Conclusion: I am never bringing my dog here ever again - I'll take waiting one month for city dog any day over a quick appointment here with "looking good" ... cause my dog definitely does not look good at all anymore. Also, if you're going to just shave my dog completely - I have clippers at home and could have saved myself $90+ and the heart ache. They simply gave up because of his "dematting" that other groomers (including emy husband and I managed to take care of at home) and just shaved him completely. Please see the photos as I've provided an example of what other groomers have done compared to what he looks like now.... If their attitude was better it would have made this experience a little bit more bearable. read more

The ladies here have groomed CJ for about 3 years, and do a wonderful job! We were nervous to switch over, but are so happy we did! Highly recommend them, they are very sweet and gentle. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, I should have left after my experience when I walked in the door. I had a 12:00 appointment. I arrived 10 minutes early to check in and give her the lowdown on my dog. When I saw 2 dogs sitting on the ground, leashed to the wall in the grooming area, I commented that I wasn't sure if my dog would be able to sit and chill like that (she's a 1.5 year old Springer). I said, "I should have given her CBD." The woman's response was, "yeah, you should've." She seemed stressed and commented that someone had called in sick. I get it. Maybe she should have said, I'm so sorry...we aren't going to be able to get to you because of this unexpected situation, here's a coupon for next time." No. That didn't happen. So I left my dog. I called at 3:00 to check in. She was doing great. Not a problem at all. Yay. I'm happy. I was told I'd get a call 15 minutes before she was ready. I was told they closed at 5:00. I had somewhere to be at 530 so I just show up at 5:00. The door is open. I walk in. I can see my dog on the table. I was told she needs 5 more minutes. She sees me and starts whining. I sit back so she doesn't see me but the whining continues. A couple minutes later, my dog is at the gate. The woman rudely asks me to shut the door, as if I was the one who left it open. She is obviously annoyed that I showed up and she comments that she was great until I came in and she can't do anything more to her while I was there. She opens the gate and let's my dog out. No leash. No harness. No collar. The whole thing was so bizarre. She hands me her leash and harness and as I'm trying to get all the dog hair off the leash, she tells me there is no charge. I hadn't even looked at my dog yet cause I was so thrown off guard. I question her. No charge? She said, "No. we didn't really finish". She had a bath. And was brushed." I appreciate the free bath, but really? She had some matting behind her ear and she was completely shaved. Glad they ran out of time, cause who knows what kind of haircut she would have gotten. I wouldn't come back, but there was no attempt at making another appointment. Horrible customer service. read more

Holly and her team are fantastic! I brought my 4 month old aussiedoodle here for his first grooming session. He was super excited to see all the other dogs and came back smelling wonderful! His fur felt super soft and was fluffed up in all the right ways. I even asked Holly to give him a faux hawk, which she kindly obliged! They did a really great job on his paws -- trimming around it and in between the toes, and the nails were perfectly filed and totally smooth. And even though it was my puppy's first time at the groomer's, they said he did fantastic and it seemed like he had a really great time. He practically leap out of my arms to go back to the groomer when we stopped by for a little extra trimming the next day. read more

Updated review: Good luck trying to get your dog in here. They don't have room for new dogs. I bring my current dog here, and was just told that they can't accept my new dog as a client because they are full. Extremely disappointing to treat long-term clients this way, especially ones who bring their dog in every 6-8 weeks. Its going to be extremely inconvenient to bring one dog here and find a different groomer for my new pup. This is not a good way to treat customers or grow a business. The grooming is always decently done, but what's the point if you can't get an appointment? read more

The location is convenient if you live in Ballard, but there is an obvious reason why they are wide open for appointments. The website says $10 for a nail trim but they charged me $17 and said they don't know how to change their posted prices online... Pretty sure that's unethical to post false prices at the very least. My dog was scared going in (she never scared) from simply smelling the welcome mat. The employees (I think one was the owner) were not welcoming and told me my dog is probably scared of the smell of clean dogs, which I felt was a rude comment. They have one of their own dogs in the store that tried to attack my immediately by trying to bite my dogs face--keep in mind my dog is a super friendly 7 month old golden retriever. They again didn't care, and simply leashed their dog behind the counter. The entire experience was poor. I'd never go here again. Unfriendly, unprofessional, false advertising. read more

After a different groomer injured my dog a while back, I've been extremely nervous to take my dog anywhere to get groomed. I read lots of reviews and decided to give this place a try. I am so glad I did! He was able to play with other doggies while he waited and he came out looking so handsome in his little handkerchief. They were also super sweet when I called mid-day to check in and see if he was being good (helicopter mom I know). They get my little guy in and are pretty quick and easy. They are comparatively priced. Its a lean operation so they don't spend time chit chatting, but I'm not going there to make friends. I don't ask for a show dog cut and am not surprised when I don't get one. My dog gets shaves, they can give him a cute teddy bear or schnauzer face and I'm happy. Updating my review a few years later. I used to go here and was pretty happy with them but after an upsetting experience I stopped and won't be returning any time soon. I brought my kitty in for grooming and there were a few yappy dogs, a loud fan and it smelled like wet dog. Already I was hesitant as my kitty dislikes dogs and this was the first time there had been dogs during our appointment. The woman (she was older and not the one I was used to dealing with) was rough with my kitty when we checked in. She cinched a cable leash around my cats neck and as I pet him goodbye I snaked a finger between the leash and his neck. I could barely get my finger in and my cat was having a hard time breathing. I loosened it and snapped at her to never put it that tight again. She said that's how she controls them and not to tell her how to do her job. I really wish I had just taken my cat and left but I didn't. I'd had good experience there before and hoped it would be ok. When I came back to get kitty he was sealed up in his carrier next to a barking dog. I opened the carrier to see him and his face looked so miserable. His whiskers had been cut off on one side and his ear had crusted blood. I asked what had happened and was told he was unruly and got himself cut. I was livid. I paid for the service and will never return. I've since started going to City Kitty in Edmonds. They only do cats and let me come in the room for tooth brushing, ear cleaning and claw trimming. They handle kitties gently and he always comes home smelling delicious, and relaxed. Two thumbs up for them. read more

This was the very worst grooming experience I have ever had with 40 years of taking pets (both dogs and cats) to grooming salons in Seattle. My cat had a few mats on her tummy under the arms--I knew that those might have to be shaved off, but specifically asked for as little shaving as possible, and definitely to not touch the head, legs and tail, and not her back. The groomer wrote down my instructions. When I picked up my cat, she was in the carrier so I did not see her. I gave a tip. When I got home, I was utterly shocked to see the poor cat--totally shaved . . even down the tail and legs!! Visitors can't believe it, and are as shocked as me. The cat was obviously traumatized, and after not eating for nearly three days I had to take her to the vet --who was equally shocked at this disgraceful grooming. I want to warn others to protect your cats from this groomer. Unfortunately the cat groomer who we previous saw for years has left, and this is the result with the new groomer. read more

The ladies at Dog Star Grooming are awesome. I've been bringing my doodle to them since July of 2018 when she was just a little puppy. They did a sweet puppy session with her to help her to adjust to all the tools and noises and it was a great introduction. We've been back several times. Months long waits for an appointment, requiring pre-visits to determine if they'll take him for an appointment, and a very confrontational attitude from the staff has just led me to take my business elsewhere. read more

The good parts: my dogs looked nice when I got them, and I didn't have to wait weeks for an appointment. And the bad parts: I know that one of my dogs is not an easy one to groom. I have tried to do it, and holding his squirmy, tiny body still to trim him is not always easy. That being said, don't complain to me about my dog. I am candid about his squirmy nature when I make the appointment and when I drop him off. He has been getting groomed his whole life, and this is the first time anyone ever said anything about it to me or complInedat all. I had a groomer come to our house today instead, and I could hear her talking him through it, but he was definitely not too much trouble for someone who was kind to him and gentle. I don't want to suggest that there is a problem at this salon, merely that my dog was not a good fit there, so I'm not either. read more

The woman who answered the phone didn't listen to my request for a Saturday appointment and tried to schedule me for two different weekday appointments. When I tried to explain that I work in Bellevue and can't make it in weekdays, she cut me off with a sigh and offered a Saturday appointment nearly 3 weeks away. These ladies are great with my pups. I have two medium size children, 80 lb pitbull (Rosie) and 55 lb mut (Sasha). They are great with both and are always accommodating in getting them in on last minute requests. After each session, they give me a full update which I always appreciate. It is so hard to find a cat groomer, but I finally found a great one! It was surprisingly quiet in there (despite the dogs I saw behind the counter who were very well-behaved and looked happy) and the place smelled nice and clean. The lady was very gentle with my kitty and made sure I still wanted to shave him since she didn't feel any mats, which I thought was great because she clearly cared more about him than the money he'd bring in. Well, when I got him back he looked fabulous! He was perfectly trimmed - better than I've ever seen. He even had a little bandana around his neck. I don't usually humiliate my cat in this way, but he really looks cute! I love it! And you know, he doesn't smell like the Avon lady to me, like other reviews mentioned. Maybe they switched shampoos? I think he smells great. The shave was perfectly priced too at $65. He was a good boy while he was there, so it might be higher if you have a difficult cat. Highly recommended! read more

I almost didn't bring my cat here because of the strange one star reviews. All I can say is: don't believe them. This place is great. The owner is nice. I don't know what people expect on the other end of other shops- but they must receive some type of fanfare, rose petals & love poems- because nothing was off here. She did great work. Loved up my cat with some grooming- so everyone wins. I am pumped that she also offers repeat claw trimming at 5$ a pop if you call ahead. Normally I wouldn't trim her claws- but we went from our hard wood floored home back east to a wall to wall carpeted 2nd floor town house & someone is having a field day on those rugs! We have been taking our dog here for two years and have been super happy. In fact, we provided them a picture and they nailed it every time. Last grooming, the cut was different than what we expected, so before bringing him in this month, I called and asked them to follow the picture. I did not recognize the person on the phone, but she stated they no longer had the picture and asked us to bring in a new one, which we did. When we picked him up, he had been buzz cut so short it surprised us! I've never seen this cut on him before. There were several uneven razor mark spots. When we noted it was different than the picture, the woman at the desk stated that "the picture was too dark". That's a horrible customer service response. I'm sorry, but if you know we brought a picture and have requested his cut be a certain way, and if you felt the picture was too dark to see the details, wouldn't you call to ask questions so you could be clear? Holly, I love working with you, but after this past groom and attitude (both on the phone and in person) from what I think is a new staff member, I'm not sure I want to come back. I think there's a training opportunity here for someone on your staff and thought you'd like to know. read more

I really like this place because they trim my cat's fur so that he can keep himself clean without doing anything as extreme as a Lion cut and he looks super-cute!
