Took my 9 month old Australian Labradoodle for her first grooming at Doggie Style Pets (DSP), and the overall experience was a good one. I located the groomer, Sarah on Instagram and her contact info was listed in her bio, so I called in to get an appointment. The earliest available appointment was 2 months out , so I snagged it up. Upon entering, Doggy Style Pets gives all the warm and fuzzies for dog parents. There was a large variety of toys and treats. Me and my dog were greeted right away, I signed the typical first time visitor waiver for grooming services and then in a few moments was introduced to the groomer. Sarah was friendly and we briefly talked through my hopes from the appointment. She did disclose ( and I already knew) that my dog had a ton of matting in hard to reach areas, so she'd do her best to keep what hair she could while keeping my dogs health in mind. The grooming took about 2hrs and I received a call when my pup was ready to be picked up. Overall DSP were polite and friendly, and I'd likely return from regular grooming upkeep. I love pets of any shape and size. And I love cool stores that cater to fur babies. This location of Doggie Style had a nice selection of items. I like looking at all the cool clothes and treats. They are more pricey that your big box pet suppliers but, the experience is much more pleasant and the stock is much more varied and interesting. Pet people are also more apt to drop some cash for our babies. Best of all, there are usually pets for adoption. This is a wonderful thing for these shops to do as a service to pets that would possibly be destroyed and to the communities where these stores are located. Bravo! read more

This was the most useful pet store in the area when we got our new puppy. They have a pretty comprehensive selection of items for dogs and cats and you can check the website or call ahead of time to see what products they carry. If something's not in stock, they can order it from a neighboring location. They are open 7 days a week and are open pretty much all day. It was really convenient to have this store in the neighborhood and I found myself running there for emergency items frequently. They have a customer loyalty program as well. The staff at this location are super helpful and knowledgeable! Especially compared to big box stores like Petsmart. The Doggie Style Pets employees always go above and beyond to make sure that we find the product we're looking for. They also showcase dogs for rescue and I see people bringing their dogs in for grooming all the time. 5 stars! read more

I brought my cats in today for a bath. I left to run some errands then come to pick them up. When I got home, one of my cats had both front paws bleeding and they didn't mention anything when I was picking up. This is unprofessional for a grooming place and I will never come back again. read more

Firstly, let me say that this review in no way reflects the employees. They've always been great. Secondly, I have spent some three thousand dollars here and at their Spruce St location for grooming, food and various canine sundries. I had been ordering dog food from Amazon previously but, ya know, support your local business and all, even if they are a hair more expensive and less convenient and havr a smaller selection. So I go to pick up the pups from grooming. I forgot to bring poop bags. I asked the clerk if a could get a couple. She responded "Sorry I can't." I asked why not and if it was a company policy? Yes, it was. No bags for me. "Really, you can't spare a bag or two?' I asked again as I stood in front on the thousands of bags on display at the counter. Now, I could have bought a pack, but I have a case (purchased from Doggie Style) at home but why reward suck a dick-head policy with an extra sale, plus why pass up an opportunity for a snarky yelp review? So on the walk home, of course, both dogs went. First time i grabbed a piece of junkmail off a stoop and managed to transport the smelly dump to a receptacle without soiling my hands. Second time there was nothing in sight so I waited a solid five minutes until another walker came by and mooched a bag off him. Now, I did the math. Retail price is about 2.2 cents per bag so let's round up to a nickel's worth of bags. Assuming a keystone mark-up, their cost on two bags would be about 2.5 cents. So, DS management, way to save the pennies while the dollars fly away. I'll just poke at my keyboard next time I need to re-up on dog chow. And, btw, there were still several dirty tangled knots on Mr Max's undercarriage. I spent a few minutes finishing the groomer's job. read more

Horrible experience. Took pup here and groomer did not even try to accommodate some matting and instead partially shaved instead of trying to comb matts. I was able to get the rest out at home after within minutes. Additionally, big razor cut on the pups stomach and when asked what happened they said they didn't know. Whole cut took 45 min. Clearly just trying to rush to get more customers without care to the pets. Will never go back for a groom. On the bright side, front staff were pleasant and there was a nice variety of dog items. read more

I took my big puppy Vader to doggie styles on Pine St. He was a smelly mess, but when he was finished with his "spa" treatment he looked amazing!!! A big shout out to the grooming and staff. My beautiful, playful, loving and sociable dog Maeby is 9 months old and has been groomed (not cut) a handful of times by different groomers and even at the Old City Doggie Style location where we also purchase a lot of items. She HAD long beautiful flowing white locks that were complimented daily by strangers and all of her acquaintances. Unfortunately, her long hair was proving to be a bit heavy and hot for summer so it was time for a cut. After careful research on where to go to get the perfect Mini Goldendoodle groom & cut, we decided on the Pine St. Doggie Style location. This is mainly due to the fact that Maeby's BFF Banks, the Goldendoodle, got a perfect cut & style after a grooming appointment there a few weeks ago. I called and booked my appointment exclaiming how great of a job they had done with our pal Banks. I came in that next Sunday after a 1.5 mile walk in 100 degree heat with a fluff ball of a dog who was very hot, I knew my decision to get her cut would be well worth it after that weather. I talked to the staff and groomer (who I assumed had groomed Banks) and really only said three things that were necessary: 1. Do not shave her, trim her, I want her to have hair! 2. Leave her face long and rounded. 3. Do not make her look like a poodle. I left very excited to come back and see a beautiful dog ready for summer. I was told 2-3 hours for the appointment. After 3.5 hours, I decided to go pick her up (after all they were about to close). She was not ready yet, but I could see her in the window.... She was shaved down to the bone! My poor dog didn't have her white, long luscious locks, she had NO hair at all, only pink skin left to see with a big fluffy poodle tail. It took everything in me not to go back there and stop the groomer, but it was too late. She continued shaving Maeby down for the next 10 minutes as I stared on watching the massacre. Apparently Doggie Style does not train their employees to listen to customers or provide a consistent groom. I don't believe this was the same groomer that did Banks, however, no one told me there were two groomers, but one staff member did tell me that typically you get a choice of groomer and that my groomer was new. Unless you get the option to watch and regulate your 30 lb Mini Goldendoodle get groomed for 3.5 hours, I would not bring your dog here as there is a proven 50/50 chance they will not listen to you and will ruin your week/month along with your dogs self esteem (who hid under the bed licking her skin all evening). I'm being offered a complimentary groom at any location but I'm not even sure if we'll be in Philadelphia by the time Maeby's hair grows back in 1+ years. read more

My dog Char is a sweet little Shih Tzu terrier rescue. She surely is very sweet outside the grooming setting, but is not the easiest to groom (or take to the vet). I give Doggie Style so much credit for being able to very patiently deal with Char and not just groom her but groom her beautifully. It had been so long since her last groom, she was pretty matted in some areas and despite the mats and my dog's anxiety, Erin was able to do a beautiful, clean groom and Char walked out of there looking like a fresh, new pup. I highly recommend this Doggie Style location for future grooming needs!!! read more

This place deserves a better star average, for sure. Well, I used to gripe about how it moved from 13th and Sansom because it was surrounded by bars and restaurants and it was easy to pick something up after a meal and/or a few rounds. The new location is literally a block away from the dog park we frequent, and from what the president of the dog park has said, DS has been very generous in their support. I was originally hesitant to bring my dog in, so it was this big inconvenience of not being able to stop in before/after dog-parking. but i tried it out the other day and it was fine. she was magically, reasonably well behaved. so we'll keep doing that until her right to visit the store is invariably revoked for being a jerk. the store has a great selection, maybe even better than the old location (it's certainly bigger). distinctly better selection than Litter Paw just up the street. i know because i ducked in to check because it's just a block closer and i was hoping to be lazy about it. also better than Unleashed by Petco on Callowhill where i took my dog to see if they had raincoats that'd fit her, they only had dinky 'pocket'/fold-able ones, no thanks. DS covered us when i found a sturdy vinyl one with a reflective stripe, and it's adjustable at the neck to keep out the rain! we get our cat's kibble (Orijen) and wet food (Merrick's) here, never had any issue with stock. they don't leave any dented, dirty and sad cans on the shelves. everything looks spotless in the store, in fact. i mean, i'm personally not a fan of dog biscuits displayed on tables. but seriously my dog will probably eat it off of a dead skunk in a gutter. bonus there's usually 3 animals in here. 1 dog in the front window, 1 in the back room, usually rescues available for adoption through operation ava. and a free roaming cat because cats cannot be told what to do of course. the guy that works here is really nice, i've seen him walking the dogs around. once an asian woman came in the store right behind me, and this blond woman came out and was like 'how can i help you guys' but i didn't know the lady behind me so that was awkward. oh i had to return something once, and had no trouble at all. just brought it back with my receipt and saw the charges reversed in a few days. the new location also offers grooming, which isn't relevant to me, but i imagine if you have grooming needs on top of supply needs, it's nice to be able to get it all done at one place. alright this is all i can think of to say about the place. hopefully they'll be seeing better reviews in the future! read more

This place is amazing! All the staff members are exceptional. Not only do they do a wonderful job of providing outstanding service to the dogs that come in to be groomed and helping the dog owners with selecting the right product, but they also take care of the rescues from SavedMe (the dogs in the window that are up for adoption) by showering them with much needed love and attention. And another positive doggie style experience. I've shopped at doggy style in old city, south Philly, manayunk, and Washington square. I have a mini zoo so im frequently am in. I have never had anything except an absolutely positive experience. Today was nothing different, and I've not yet reviewed this location so here goes. I walked in and the girl working (short hair glasses) asked if I needed anything. I said no thanks that I was just grabbing cat food. She said no problem, and I walked back. I buy taste of the wild and couldn't find the cat version. I went back to the front of the store and asked if she could help. She did and they only had one flavor of the food. I said that would be fine, but she did say that if I had a specific flavor need she would order it. My cats aren't picky, but such great service. She then went on to say sometimes cats are tough. What I find in all doggie styles are that the employees always bring up their pets which is a sign they're at the right job. These people love animals. They aren't in the business of hiring people who just want a job. Make sure you join their club, every time you check out you give your # which is great for people like me that often loose cards. Every once in a while you get a little discount which is nice. Often I see people say this place is pricey. Actually, if you went to a regular store and bought the same QUALITY items the prices would match up. This isn't Petsmart so you can't expect a giant bag of food for 20 bucks. read more

Not only did the groomer NOT listen, I was very, very put off by overall attitude and yelling in the grooming area that I heard while shopping in the store. When I contacted the owner about my experience, he responded saying that "my allegations" were "false" in a very, very nasty email. All of the staff are extremely helpful, from choosing the right snacks and toys for my pups to selecting the right leash. However, this review is mostly based on Steph the groomer. She is absolutely amazing! I mean talk about a dog whisperer. My dog had a bit of a bad experience at previous grooming spots and he was skittish to say the least. I think this pet shop is great and very convenient for this side of town. The cat selection at this shop is much larger and more sufficient than the selection at the old Doggie Style that was on Sansom. I still am more favorable to Litter Paw, but I always check out this shop for new toys if I'm nearby! But it does open earlier than Litterpaw by a few hours (and stays open for a few hours) Definitely worth checking out though! read more

I was very happy with my groomer at Doggy Style on Pine. Unfortunately, with less than 24 hours notice, I got a call saying that management had "changed the policy" and would no longer allow my dog to be groomed there because it has been decided that elderly dogs or dogs with medical issues will no longer be permitted at the Pine Street location! I said that since this was done with no notice, that I wanted to bring my elderly dog in once more since I am going on vacation and I was not given reasonable notice. I was refused. I make a grooming appointment each time I am at the store, so they had 7 weeks to call and tell me they no longer serve elderly dogs. So, I just called a well known competitor and they said they are happy to groom elderly dogs. So, Doggy Style just lost my business, since I will no longer go there for dog food, treats, clothing, poop bags, and other supplies. What horrible customer service. read more

Prior to this store's relocation to 10th and Pine, I used to visit the shop to play with Finnegan, the shop cat, and once to buy a cute Get Well card for a friend who was in the hospital; though I recently visited their new space, and it is crystal clear why they moved into it. The front area is dedicated to all things dog, and the back room houses all your cat necessities, as well as a pet grooming salon. I was thrilled to see that they carried both the wet and dry varieties of the hypoallergenic food the vet suggested for my cat, as well as a vast selection of toys. I had a lot of questions about food as he wasn't eating and they answered all of them and pointed me in the right direction to a small breed food with a satisfaction guarantee. I have been a long-time customer of DSP Pine; over the years I've had my dogs groomed there. I have to say that grooming service has really fallen off over the past several months. Awhile ago I made appointments for my 2 dogs to receive a full grooming; when I got there they said they only booked for a wash. I don't book for washes as I can bathe them at home, and was very disappointed they couldn't be groomed that day. I made another appointment a couple weeks later; they called to cancel and re-schedule. The re-schedule was also ultimately cancelled as their groomer called off. Whomever called me (possibly the manager?) was very apologetic and offered a 25% discount for the next time I used their services. When I did finally get the dogs groomed the 25% off was not applied. I took both dogs in today for full grooms; the groomer was significantly late and not the least bit apologetic as far as I could tell. The other employee did apologize. They are great in other services and carry the special food my dog needs; I'm sure I'll continue to shop there but am likely going to look for another grooming service read more

Erin truly is the best groomer that has ever handled my two (crazy and very large) dogs. My family has used her for years and we cannot say enough about her. I was a little bit shocked to see such a poor review of her on Yelp because her love for dogs is so evident right upon meeting her for an appointment. She is honest and offers the best advice as far as grooming goes and assures she's always doing the right thing for anybody's fur baby! I referred her to any and everybody who needs a groomer. My mother needed her Yorkie groomed and she was extremely matted to the point where she needed to be shaved and Erin assured my mother that with the right maintenance, she could eliminate the matting and keep her Yorkie looking beautiful, which she did. That was the last time she had to be shaved which was long ago at this point! We love her and plan to use her for many years to come! read more

Currently back and fourth between my home town and Philly but I hate to give such a low rating to what used to be an amazing shop but I've been in this location a few times earlier in the year to get some help on transitioning my dog to a healthier food and there was a helpful young woman (short with short blonde hair and glasses) who was super knowledgable and helpful. I found myself coming back in because she seemed to have a genuine interest in my situation. I hadn't been there in a while because I've been traveling quite a bit but I went in last week and there was a young man who greeted me as if my presence in the store annoyed him. I wanted to ask for some help choosing a toy that my 2 year old pitbull wouldn't destroy (he loves to chew through everything!) but I wasn't comfortable with this young man. I also mentioned that one of the dogs up for adoption had peed and he replied dryly that "he knew." I left the store with a bitter taste in my mouth and no treats or toys for my dog. There is now an unwelcoming aura to this location and I think I'll stick to stopping by other more friendlier and animal conscious doggie style locations. read more

Did you know they do kitty nail clipping?! For 10! This place is saving my furniture from being seriously destroyed! They're fast (maybe less than a ten minute wait?) and so sweet! Location is perfect but the prices on everything else (toys and such) are a little more on the pricer side, but it's a pet boutique so that's to be expected. read more

This place is fantastic! I adopted my dog here (she's the best thing ever!!! GO ADOPT!!) -- and have found the staff to be nothing short of amazing and helpful. They are so full of great recommendations, whether it's food or behavioral training, and you can tell they genuinely care. While the prices can be a little high, they do have a good selection of items -- food, toys, carriers, flea & tick prevention, etc. It's also nice to see such a great store helping dogs find homes, while keeping the character of the Pine Street shopping district alive. read more

Would love to say great things about this place, and it looks wonderful. However I just moved to the neighborhood, stopped in here to pick up some doggie treats. The nice guy behind the counter welcomed me and told me about their grooming and gave me a coupon for 20% off. When I called to book the appointment, the woman on the phone said the coupon was only good through June 31 (which is does say on the coupon) and, it turns out they're completely booked through that date so the coupon is no good. I explained to the woman on the phone that I'm calling within the stated time and if they're all booked, they should just give me the next appointment and honor the coupon, but she wasn't having it. Said "sorry," in a way that indicated she wasn't. She also said they're always pretty booked up -- only one groomer. Wow -- real bait and switch. I'm very disappointed.
