I picked up my dog from District Dogs Navy Yard after a 7-day boarding stay and found a significant…read morescuff on his nose that was actively bleeding. I received absolutely no notification that he had been injured. When I asked the associate what happened, his response was essentially, "I have no idea, I'm just working the evening pickup." When I asked whether the injury had been treated, I was told, "I don't think so." I then had to ask for something to treat the wound, at which point peroxide spray and a product to stop the bleeding were brought out. So my dog was injured while in their care, yet no one at pickup could tell me how or when it happened, whether it had been treated, or why I was never contacted. That is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the level of supervision provided during boarding. My dog was also groomed on his final day. I specifically flagged areas that had been missed during his previous grooming, only for those same areas to be missed again. The grooming appeared rushed. I returned to the facility in person and spoke with James, the acting manager. During that conversation, James acknowledged that he had personally observed the injury on my dog's final day but failed to notify me about it. That acknowledgment was particularly concerning because it confirmed that the injury had been noticed before pickup, yet I was still never informed. During that same visit, I personally observed employees screaming at dogs and banging on cages. I also observed what I considered unsanitary conditions in the lobby. After seeing this firsthand, combined with the unexplained injury and my dog's noticeably distressed demeanor after his stay, my concerns extended well beyond poor customer service. I was genuinely disturbed by what I witnessed and by the conditions in which animals appeared to be handled. I later received a call from Perfecto, the manager, regarding the situation. Despite the injury, failure to notify me after it was observed, concerns about how it was treated, the grooming issues, and what I personally witnessed at the facility, I was informed that he was unable to offer any compensation for the experience, inconvenience, or injury. Accidents can happen. What is unacceptable is the lack of communication, documentation, follow-through, and accountability afterward. This experience also follows previous instances where I've felt a lack of support from this location, making it increasingly difficult to view these issues as isolated incidents. Given the publicly reported concerns surrounding this business in the past, I would expect animal safety, transparency, and accountability to be treated with the utmost seriousness. Instead, my experience left me questioning whether enough has changed. Returning my dog actively bleeding after the injury had already been observed, failing to notify me, and the conduct I personally witnessed during my subsequent visit were deeply concerning from an animal-welfare standpoint. Based solely on what I personally experienced and observed, I no longer have confidence in this facility's ability to provide the standard of care, supervision, cleanliness, and communication I expect when entrusting someone with my dog. I will not be using this location again.

She's incredibly smart and before finding Atlas she was pretty well behaved but I had sort of hit a wall with her undesirable behavior (barking, separation anxiety, jumping up on people). I knew she needed better instruction than my partner and I were giving her, but knowing how social my dog is, a group puppy class didn't seem ideal. Luckily I met Atlas owner, Danny, and immediately I felt the right vibe. He seemed to have a training approach based in dog psychology, and I knew I was gonna have to think like my very intelligent dog if I was going to effectively communicate with her. I then met with Thomas (who I thoroughly enjoyed on a personal level too!) for only 2 hours and we went over a lot... all sorts of tips and tricks and it helped me to understand the overall philosophy of dog training. I was so busy going over every training mistake i had made, that I didn't even notice that Thomas was efficiently correcting her and my dog began to be on her best behavior... quietly cuddled next to me. Later on that night the change became more apparent when my partner was also like "um did you notice how obedient puppy is being?" We began joking that it's like we brought over a military school recruiter and now she's like "I'll be good! I'll be good!" We're not 100% sure which tip that Thomas gave us was so magical (but I suspect correcting the pack hierarchy was a major point) but it worked! Barking has turned into a low growl or nothing at all, she's stopped pestering us for fetch in favor of waiting for "play time", the results are kinda mind blowing! But the best part I never saw coming. Until seeing the after effects of Thomas I didn't realize how my stressed my puppy was. So now everyone in the house is happier! This is one of those business I love to support! Great people doing great work!

During the first visit, one of my dogs exhibited some agression/territorialism, which the owner reported. After the first visit I confirmed with the owner that he would be comfortable staying with our dogs for the second visit, and told him that I would completely understand if he wanted to cancel our reservation. I was grateful when he said that he would be comfortable providing services to my pets again. He left a detailed note and spoke with me over the phone regarding my dogs' behavior during his visit. Upon returning home after using the overnight services for a second time, I was disappointed that the sitter did not leave a more detailed note. The note simply indicated that everything had been fine this time. Although I was relieved to know that the dogs had been better behaved during this visit, I would have appreciated knowing when the sitter arrived and left for overnights and walks, and when the dogs had been fed. My husband and I were both surprised when, after the owner confirmed that he would be willing to work with our dogs for our second visit, he asked us to call him a day or two prior to our reservation to remind him of our reservation. However, I absolutely must commend the owner for the following: prior to our first visit, he informed me that he asks all of his clients to call him to check in when they arrive at home. This way, he knows that the pets for which he was responsible are now in their owners' care. If he does not hear from the owners and/or cannot reach them he will return to provide necessary services to the pets and bill the owner for them. It set my mind at ease to know if an emergency arose, my dogs would be cared for. During our new client consulation, the owner stated that he did not like to make himself at home at his clients' houses. He was true to his word and even stripped the sheets off the guest bed and left them neatly folded in the guest room! Additionally, kudos to the owner for reviewing his Yelp! reviews. After he came across my first one, he called to discuss my concerns with me and was very responsive!

A dog lover would want to meet a dog who was going to be staying with him ahead of time. George Leonard told me specifically that training was $100/night. Never once did George inform me that I was agreeing to 5 consecutive days when I paid him $500 up front. Therefore, when I asked if it would be okay to pickup Oliver after two days of training due to my busy work schedule, and George agreed, never did he mention that I would ultimately be losing the last $300 I sent him ahead of time. I asked if it was okay to pick him up, had he told me I would be losing the rest of Oliver's training I never would have picked him up. I figured, at the time, George would let me know his schedule (like we agreed he would do in person) and I could bring Ollie back to finish his training. When I emailed George a few days later to set up another training for Oliver (in which I had already paid in advance) he sent me an extremely rude email saying that I had lost my opportunity and if I'd like Oliver to be trained, I would have to pay an additional $100 per night. Do NOT send your dog to this training. The "Canine Training and Behavioral Specialist" George is very rude and will not accommodate as needed. I was scammed into losing nearing $300 and Oliver was never even trained. Such a disappointment and waste of time, effort and money.

George had been working with our foster dog before we got him, and we were amazed at how well trained the dog was. George helped us understand the training and have the skills to reinforce it so our foster dog could be his best self and find a forever home. Our dog who'd passed away was a senior, small deaf terrier mix, so having a big American bulldog in his teens was something very new to us, and George was absolutely fantastic in teaching us how to continue working with the dog. George spent more than 1.5 hours the day we first received our foster dog going over all the basics until we were confident we had the fundamentals down. We also had several super helpful training sessions at our home so we could practice how to correctly enforce the training in various scenarios and locations. George answered each of my long, rambly, nervous emails with patience, kindness, encouragement and a deep understanding of my questions. George has an incredible ability to not just train dogs well, but train *us* as their human caretakers, which I realized through this process is just as essential. George was really great at teaching me in a way that was consistent, motivating, and easy to understand. I was nervous because looking after and training a large powerful dog can be pretty intimidating when you have no previous experience, but George equipped me with the tools and knowledge necessary to do so and was always very responsive to email and phone calls when I had any questions or concerns. It can be an adjustment to follow a training "regimen" when you never have before, (e.g., using a prong collar) and it's easy to think the discipline is not what dogs want or need. That said, George taught me how critical it is for some dogs (e.g. a large bully breed), and how that's what our foster dog needed to be safe and be his best self and get the home he deserved. Trust me, the foster dog utterly LOVED George, who always knew how to balance correcting negative behavior, positive reinforcement, and play time. The time and dedication George has put into this dog in need of a home is admirable and says a lot about George's love of dogs and generous heart. We are forever grateful for all the training and encouragement we received, and for all George has done and continues to do for foster dogs. We will absolutely go to Ruff And Ready again when we get another dog, and I highly recommend you do the same, no matter what type of dog you have, even if it's just for a consultation session - it will change your life, and your dog's life, for the better.
