We had a great first experience at The Groomery. It's in an adorable little building in Old Town with parking which is very convenient. When you walk in there's a small entrance that separates you from the grooming area. It seems really secure for the dogs inside. They have a book showing the different levels that they can cut which is really helpful! I had a nice chat with the groomer and told her everything we wanted. She followed my instructions and my dog looked adorable! It's a bit pricier than what I've been paying in Vienna, but we will be back for sure. read more

They did a great job on my dog and I'll probably go back as it's hard to find a good groomer near by. The reason for the lower stars is the groomer is rude - it was absolutely pouring rain when I showed up at 8:52 for my 9am appointment and she wouldn't let me come inside or even stand in the doorway to get out of the rain. Ridiculous. I had walked there and didn't have a car to sit in. Don't schedule 9am apts if you don't open your door till exactly 9am. Make your first apt at 9:15. read more

They were able to easily deal with Sturgis' "exuberance" and Bella's "excitement." The location is easy to get to, the first right off RT 1 N (S. Patrick St.) from I-495) onto Franklin St., just cross Washington and on the left. Plenty of drop-off and pickup parking right in front of the building. Bella and Sturgis have asked to take them back to The Groomery the next time they need some sprucing up! My dog got the most perfect cut ever. Like beyond perfect! The groomer and staff are amazing and very kind!! The salon is adorable and spotless. Zero complaints. Unfortunately it's a bit too pricey for me so I'm going to have to keep looking. I'm really bummed because the groomer is really talented. Please watch the attached video before bringing your dog to this groomer. I chose this groomer because my regular one had a long wait, and I didn't want to delay. I regret that decision. Two hours after dropping off my dog, the staff contacted me to say he was "unsafe" and had been throwing himself against the grooming table. They said they couldn't finish the appointment. He has never had a problem at a groomer before. I was also upset that I had to pay $300 for a service that wasn't completed. Still, I got in the car immediately to go pick him up. While I was on the way, they sent me a video of my dog clearly in distress. No one in the video is attempting to soothe him. They sent this footage to "prove" he was un-groomable -- even though I hadn't questioned their decision and was already en route. Receiving that video made me feel sick. When I spoke with the owner, she claimed they had spent an hour and a half trying to comfort him. Given that he was there for only two hours and had already been bathed, that timeline doesn't add up. She also told me there were ten cameras in the room and that she could prove he was being comforted the entire time. I asked her to please share footage of those attempts to comfort him so I could have some reassurance. She refused, saying I was "being mean" and that she had already spoken with me for fifteen minutes -- though at that point, the call had lasted just over five minutes. I'm sharing this review -- and the video -- in the hope that no other dog has to go through what mine did. read more

The five stars are all for Alley. We followed her from a prior place, and never even questioned it. But everyone else here has been super nice as well. For what it's worth, that prior place is within walking distance of our apartment, but instead we drive 30 minutes in DC metro traffic to come here. Firstly, for whatever reason, our pup Olivia disliked going to our last groomer (clearly, something had happened that resulted in her being very skittish when visiting). But since we switched to The Groomery Ltd, she's been doing much better, so a big thanks to the team for working to make her feel safe. Our pup has been groomed by Charlise a few times. And each time she's done an outstanding job. Olivia is a Wheaten, and when we get her haircut we hope she still looks like one. Charlise gets it right every time. This is a great groomer! We have been going since they were on Glebe and now take both of our dogs here. We have two goldendoodles, whose hair ccan be somewhat difficult to cut and many groomers end up making them look crazy. I took my elderly cat in for a full grooming and the service was top notch, from the Groomer asking me to fill out a questionnaire of exactly what I wanted for the grooming to even drawling a picture of what it would look like after on my cat. Lola came back too with the cutest bandanna after the grooming and the groomer even cleaned her very hairy carrier-I was beyond impressed! My senior boy had a bath and it went absolutely perfect. He's a 110 lb GSD and came out BEAAUUUTIFUL! The staff is so so friendly. The facility is gorgeous (front office is a little snug so if you have a dog that you don't want to socialize in close quarters I would make sure it's empty before entering) They truly care about your fur baby. Rebecca at the front desk is a sweetheart, she asked lots of questions about how to handle my baby (is he friendly/anything to look out for/grooming experience) which made me feel calm about his appointment. My 1st review over 2 years ago was positive, but I am revising it due to recent experiences. In late April, I called 5 times and left messages with no response. I found another groomer to tied my dog over, but I had once had a good experience at The Groomery - so I tried again. I didn't have any success reaching them by phone once more, so I decided to stop by in person. The front desk clerk took one look at me and pretended to look up my "file". Then I was l denied service for reasons no one was available who had the background to groom my dog. However, I had looked online at the groomers' backgrounds. I read they had ones with the skills to groom a healthy older bichon, but the clerk said there was no one. I asked why my calls were never returned, the clerk said she spoke to the manager and it was decided there was no one who could groom my dog, so she didn't return my calls. This made no sense. Anyway, the experience was fishy and potentially discriminatory. My dog had once been a regular with no issues over 2 years ago. I don't understand why now I'm being refused service. You deserve 1 star for this kind of practice, but I'm being nice because you once were professional with me and my dog. read more

The Groomery on Glebe did my pup some justice! She went from looking like sandy "from Annie" to a pooch who was trotting on rodeo drive in Beverly Hills. I didn't even know how to handle her when I seen her new look. The groomer was professional and highly knowledgeable about her line of work. Koko my puppy received them well. I can't sing the praises of Belle enough! This was our second time at The Groomery Ltd, but it was my 5 month old pup's very first haircut. Belle was fantastic and she listened carefully to what I wanted for Paxton's haircut. I expressed my nervousness as this was a first time experience for both Paxton and myself and I wanted to ensure my fur baby would come out looking as desired. Belle was also very patient with Paxton and showed cared in understanding that his first haircut could be a lot for him, so I appreciate her for taking any nerves he may have had into consideration. One of the hardest parts of relocating is finding new groomers/stylists/vets/drs, etc... when you had great ones. I initially looked for a mobile groomer on the suggestion of a dog trainer to help alleviate stress for our senior girl. The ones recommended either had no availability or had a price that was just not in our realm. So I do I what I usually do and read through many Yelp reviews to find The Groomery-it said they specialized in senior/disabled dogs and the fact that they didn't cage them all day while they waited their turn was what won me over. They did a great job and were done in about 2.5 hrs. In response to the owner's totally combative response to my review, yes as a hairdresser I totally understand how reviews impact a business but that doesn't excuse the fact that an unhappy customer who gave your establishment a chance to fix a situation, still left your business unhappy with a totally messed up service. Yes, we provided a 3 page laminated grooming instructions on our first visit (that your staff refused to keep on file) and it was created because a dog can't tell you what's wrong or how to groom them, especially when their human isn't present. The appointment I booked for my dog was done online this time, because no one would pick up your business line. It goes to voicemail. You shouldn't have a online booking option if you're going to complain that I booked the appointment online. In addition, stop calling my phone. The Groomery (formerly On Glebe) is a wonderful business and fantastic at what they do. I had been going to Belle and team since they were on Glebe Rd in Del Ray around 2018. We were lucky enough to be able to keep going during the pandemic when it was almost impossible to get these types of appointments in. When they moved to Alexandria City, a mere 5 minutes away, it was even more convenient! Belle and Javie were the only ones my late dog would let touch his nails, and that in itself was priceless to me. When my pup passed in Feb 2024, the team went above and beyond and even sent a sympathy arrangement shaped like a dog in a bed with halo and wings! This is just a simple example of how the whole team loves their work, their clients, and going far past the call of duty in everything they do.
