The staff was friendly at drop-off. Unfortunately the haircut was horrible and the follow-up was frustrating. After the terrible groom my partner was told to come back for a they would fix it for free. She scheduled the appointment pointing out that she wanted the complimentary service (see photo) and when I picked her up they told me it was roughly $125. I told them I had a free service and they saw that in the system but that's not what they did. I overheard the lady behind the counter whisper that we were willing to pay the difference even though it is their fault . At that point I was unwilling to pay but my partner was at work and had already paid the entire amount online so that I did not have to have any issues. They reached out to the owner and we were assured that she would reach out to us and fix it. My partner reached out to Jodi (the owner) and she did not respond. This was in February and it is now May. I waited to post this in hope that I wouldn't have to because they would make it right. I understand that the groomer needs to be paid because the work was completed but their mistake shouldn't have been my problem. Oh I forgot to mention how we came about the complimentary service. The original cut was HORRENDOUS (see photo) my partner wrote a review about it and they offered us a complimentary bath and tidy to take it down. She agreed and removed the review(shady). First time taking my dog for grooming. It may work for some people but not for me. The place could be tidier and being crate free means dogs of all sizes are roaming around. My concern would be that my dog can catch something . They checked just for rabies vaccination. The groomer cut more hair than what I requested. She was nice though. We've been taking pur older mini schnauzer here since he was a puppy (he's almost 3 now) and got the worst groom at another salon in Arlington. This place has been amazing for him. He loves his groomer, Sung! Now our new puppy also started coming here. Sung is so patient with her given that she's new to grooming. Head to Tail spa took me in for a same day appointment for my pup, which I was surprised given how difficult it is to secure a grooming appointment in Old Town. Chewie looked very nervous and hesitant to go in, which may have been due to a recent unrelated experience to this locale. I definitely appreciated that they let the dogs roam and socialize while they wait for their turn. When it was time to pick Chewie up, I arrived to the best haircut he has ever had in a long time. He was a literal fluffball with very soft hair. The groomer nailed the look, though next time i may ask them to take a little more off from his head. The one reason I can't give 5 stars: I had asked to have his glands expressed, which they did. However, they left him with a streak of the fluid that comes off from the glands that dried up with his coat near his tail. I had to thoroughly wash that area when I got back home, which is a bummer for having paid a $150+ service. After several disappointing experiences elsewhere we finally found our go-to grooming spot! The team here really understands anxious pets - they gave our nervous pup special attention and offered a quiet space to help her feel comfortable. However she didn't need it and was able to roam with the other dogs at the spa. Special shout out to Vee (Vi?)! She was super attentive and took the time to understand our preferences and make sure we were on the same page about the style we wanted. When we got home, our dog was her usual playful self (at other places, she'd come home stressed and subdued). It's clear they treated her with patience and care. $130 for a 7 lb dog to be groomed is absolutely ridiculous. $160 with a tip. I had already given her a bath and she was completely combed out. They did not grind her nails. The most I've ever paid is $65. I can only assume the cost is so high because in July they cut back on the number of dogs the groom per day. I saw this on their website before leaving this review. Jodi seemed so compassionate and attentive to my senior B's particular needs with consideration to her having intermittent IVDD flare ups that could be triggered with someone dropping or mishandling her. Jodi was a real gem through our communications and squeezed us in for a last minute appointment with Katie that gave Koffee a phenomenal haircut. We were so thrilled when Koffee did not seem at all stressed or frazzled at pickup and truly looked forward to treating her to a Thera-Clean microbubble bath ahead of Summer when her skin allergies are most prevalent. When I called to schedule Koffee a second visit at H2T spa, I didn't exactly experience the same warm and fuzzy feeling I had initially and was pretty leery about a waiver / release of liability I was asked to sign. Once again, much to my surprise this business' owner took time from her very busy schedule and reached out personally by phone call, direct message, and on this platform to address my concerns and went above and beyond to ensure I knew H2T spa's typical customer service and pet handling standard is the exceptional experience we'd first encountered. Everyone is entitled to having an "off day" or an "off moment" and with the awesome execution of grooming this place nailed on their first try for my "little B," it truly sets this business as one of the most outstanding in the area to be as busy as they typically are, but still prioritize each client and pet's individual experience in a manner that they want you to come back enough to extend multiple efforts to ensure that you will. Jodi is very passionate about her business and customers' experience which was reflected in our first impressions and further illustrated through her advising that she and her team will be reviewing and potentially updating the waiver / release for senior pets and ones with pre-existing health conditions for it to include language that is as pet-owner friendly as possible and not as unsettling as the one I initially received. I can't wait until post-COVID because my biggest complaint is having to wait outside in line in the cold for 10-20 minutes in the morning for drop off, and there's limited parking. I hope people seeing this review take a few things away: 1.) Integrity and Accountability matter. The owner has neither. If you have a bad experience and post a review, expect her to try and intimidate you into deleting it and retaliate by posting your personal info online rather than take accountability or use the feedback to make corrections. Just look at the 1-3 star reviews. 2.) Suggestion: Read the description of ALL services before you go inside and have it handy when talking to the groomer. 3.) Expect to NOT be given an accurate estimate, then to be hit with a bill for a minimum of $110 for minimal, shoddy, work. This price doesn't include a full haircut (*per the owners own comments below). 4.) Most importantly, find another groomer- an ethical one. This one is anything BUT ethical. --- In Response to the owner's comment on my review--- Jodi, first and foremost, the "bath and tidy" was not described as ONLY pads, sanitary area, and face. I asked for a full groom and it was offered a scissor trim as an alternative to a clipper trim. It was my first time at your spa, so I only had the comments from the groomer to go off of. In your defense, a bath and tidy is clearly defined on the website- unfortunately I went in for a full groom and during the discussion with the groomer she recommended it, without describing it as such, and I didn't know any better. Had I known his body would be left untouched, I would have opted for a full groom. In the future, it would be helpful it's made clear to customers, especially new customers, that a bath and tidy will not clean up any of the body. I emailed photos of his nails because to leave them in that condition SHOULD be unacceptable and I thought at the very least, a manager or owner had a right to know that it was happening.. First, because of all the great reviews and second because I read they don't crate the dogs before & after. I requested a full groom and asked how much it would cost. I was told based on the size and age it would likely be between $110-$140 but I would get a better sense once I talked to the groomer when I brought him in. I told the groomer I didn't want him shaved or really short, but trimmed, cleaned up, and his nails cut. She told me on the longest setting clippers would leave 1/3" of hair and recommended a "bath and tidy" which she explained as a trim. I presumed based on the discussion and the fact that I asked for a full groom, that "trim" meant all over. I received a text when he was done with an invoice that I stupidly paid in advance. When I picked him up, I was HORRIFIED! He had a hideous bowl cut and none of his hair trimmed. They charged $110 for a face and sanitary trim for my puppy when the $110 quote I was given was for a full groom. His nails were split and ratty, like the clippers used were dull or the groomer wasn't paying attention. I took my pup here due to the free range (cage free environment), and recommendation from the VCA as well as a couple of friends. My pup did have a good experience the first go around, however the second go around was not pleasant for us, not the dog. There is one thing I don't appreciate is how we asked nicely not to shave our dog straight through or at least leave a couple of inches. However, I don't appreciate that the owner while educating us on how we should handle our pups grooming felt extremely belittling, and just plain disrespectful. To be clear, I have nothing against the groomers whatsoever, they were fantastic, and actually kind to us when recommending the shave. But the owner came in and went way too far.. I can't go back to place with an owner that comes off rude when educating people, and I believe the individual does not recognize how they speak to people. read more

So wonderful, from start to finish! Our pup Lance (short-hair boxer-mixed breed) has previously shown anxiety and leash aggression around other pups. It's mostly due to lack of socialization. But we've been working super hard on it. Needless to say, the staff was more than accommodating when I called. I told them all about Lance and they were able to get us in within a day for grooming (including shampoo, anal glands, and nails). They also used hypo-allergenic shampoo because he tends to have itching. They let us come in for the first appt. of the day when it would be quieter. And, although the pups stay off leach and open range in the spa, they had a kennel for Lance to lessen his interaction with the other pups. Lance was so happy when I arrived to pick him up. He seemed to fair well, despite the somewhat noisy environment - even with all the pups out and about! He came out proudly showing off his cute new patriotic neckerchief. This was Maddy's 2nd time EVER to a groomer. My mom's Shih Tzu is a rescue dog and is still a bit skittish and probably a drama queen if you really want to know the truth! I wanted to support a local business during this COVID19 pandemic and was so pleased to see they are following very strict rules and guidelines which were discussed with me over the phone. I took my 2 dogs, Benji a Miniature Poodle & Corih a "micro" Yorkie here from late 2017-2019. Jodi is super accommodating as my first appointment I called her in a panic when my groomer cancelled all of her futures grooms due to giving birth - the same week a random snowstorm hit and caused my dogs to get covered in mud and salt. I was willing to fly from NYC just for this groom as they were the only other groomer on the East Coast at the time to offer the TheraClean (which was needed greatly needed for our situation!) Jodi literally had a spot for my boys available as soon as we landed. The store was clean and she even offered for me to stay and wait (this lets me know they take great care of your animals when you are not present). She even offered to turn the heat up for me since I had left my coat at the airport because I was in a hurry. Over the past 10 years, I've taken my 8lb Maltese, Bear, to many groomers, including Petsmart and a boutique groomer in Old Town Alexandria. We never had a go-to groomer we truly trusted and would recommend until now. The experience we've had with Jodi and her team at Head to Tail is the absolute best groom and value, in my opinion. They even have a customer loyalty program where you can earn free spa treatments for your pup. The salon is a clean, modern, safe, and positive environment. Previously, he acquired gland issues and infections from being left in dirty cages at other grooming facilities--luckily, Head to Tail is cage-free and clean--and we haven't dealt with any of those issues since switching. Our go-to groomer, Gianna, is wonderful and really cares about making my fur baby look and feel great every time. She hand-grooms with scissors because she feels electric clippers can be scary for small, timid dogs like mine, which I really appreciate. She has a consultative approach, takes direction well, and implements feedback professionally. She also often has her sweet little poodle at the shop, who sometimes even sneaks in a snuggle with my usually-super-shy pup after his groom...too cute. My little guy also loves to snack on some of the free sample "cookies" after his groom :) which I believe they also have available for sale, along with a thoughtfully curated selection of dog accessories, grooming products, etc. They know us by name and are always kind and accommodating. For those who have posted about timing issues in reviews, I really recommend you communicate when scheduling (or at the very least when dropping off). They have always been honest and as accommodating as possible with me timing-wise, while still being realistic. Any time I've communicated time restraints, they've made it work not only on time, but early whenever possible, as well as offering alternate appointment options.
