The manager is not even the one doing the work or fit for the position of manager. Instead of working manager and assistant manager smoke in the car while they get there underpaid employees to do everything. The manager clearly doesn't keep up with basic responsibilities, especially when it comes to training. cleaning animal cages. And being completely understaffed (they quit for a reason.) For a place that's supposed to care about animals, it's honestly disturbing. The lack of cleanliness and attention is just unacceptable. Overall, the whole place feels neglected from the employees to the animals. At this point, it seriously feels like it needs entirely new ownership because whatever is going on now is not working. And management kicking there best and basically only employees out of a store just because management was angry that an employee asked you something is not ok. They are minors.

I've also adopted two kittens in the last year and they are the best cats we have ever found! they rotate animals that do not get adopted between their five stores to ensure quicker adoptions. There are always litters of kittens and puppies to choose from, and they are all rescues. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

They have an especially great selection of aquatic plants, way more than petsmart or pets plus! However, they do have more than aquatic necessities, as the name entails. At the front of the store you'll be able to visit a handful of reptiles like snakes, geckos and turtles. Next to the pet display they offer live crickets, worms, roaches and more. Last but not least, they have a selection of treats and toys for our furry friends and small animals. As an animal owner and lover, I will definitely be back!

I paid nearly $5,000 in na French bulldog believing I was bringing home a healthy, well-cared-for puppy. Sadly, I was wrong. Zeus had health issues from the very beginning. Despite all the love, care, and medical attention -- including over $10,000 spent at a veterinary hospital -- Zeus passed away at just 1 year and 6 months old. No animal deserves to suffer like that, and no family should have to go through the pain of losing a pet so young. The emotional and financial damage this caused me is beyond words. With a broken heart, I'm leaving this review as a warning: do your research before buying from this place. Don't be fooled by promises or appearances. I truly hope no one else goes through what I went through. This entire experience traumatized me deeply. Losing Zeus so young shattered me emotionally, and I'm currently on medication just to help cope with the pain. Nothing will bring him back, but I hope my words can protect others from the same grief.

Fish prices are actually decent compared to other chains and my friend bought 4 fish while we were there. I believe the owner? manager? I don't know, the older guy with glasses helped us. He was way out of his league and asked a ton of questions even before scooping the fish. If you say one wrong thing he won't sell anything to you. We got 4 tetras for a 20 gallon. He said we can't but anything else in them because of "space concerns". Are you kidding? I saw a sign near the bettas stating that 1 inch of fish = 4 gallons of water. That's insane. I typically go by 1 inch = 1 gallon. He was very strict and gave off some bad vibes. The bettas were beautiful (some $30+) but a few looked dead. They had some amazing reptiles and cool saltwater fish.

I adopted her at 11 weeks and only learned she had already been sterilized when a volunteer casually said as I was leaving, "Keep an eye on her incision. She was spayed Thursday." As a result, she now suffers from urinary incontinence, leaking urine while sleeping, requiring lifelong medication, repeat diagnostics, and possibly surgery. This is not an unpredictable outcome--it's a well-documented risk of early spaying in large breeds. Each puppy's profile under one year old should clearly state that the dog will be spayed or neutered before adoption. That simple line might alert someone that the procedure is happening far too early--and give them pause to consider the lifelong hormonal complications they could be inheriting. Had I seen that information, I may have realized what I was walking into. Had I not spent time with the puppies on adoption day--snuggling with her and her siblings, watching them play, and identifying my lifelong best friend--I would NEVER have adopted a puppy spayed this early. You shouldn't either. The incontinence doesn't become apparent until you finally realize that this puppy is trying so hard to be housebroken but just can't make it for the normal length of time between potty runs. There were eight puppies in this litter. Eight puppies all spayed or neutered too soon. Buried deep on their website is this statement: "To help reduce the number of unwanted animals, our dogs are sterilized prior to adoption unless there is a medical reason that this surgery can't be done at this time." There is a medical reason--recognized by veterinary associations--not to spay large breed puppies at such an early age. The AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) recommends delaying spay/neuter for large-breed dogs until 12-18 months of age to reduce orthopedic risks and hormonal complications. My dog is a Heeler/Golden Retriever mix, and she now lives with the consequences of their "one size fits all" protocol. A puppy needs the hormones allowed by delayed spaying to support normal development of their bones, joints, and urinary system--removing them too early can disrupt these processes and lead to long-term complications. Home At Last Dog Rescue claims to carefully vet their adopters. If they trust these individuals enough to adopt a dog, why not require a signed contract to ensure spay/neuter at the medically appropriate age? When I adopted my previous golden retriever at 7 weeks old, I gladly signed such a contract. It's a responsible, balanced approach--and one this rescue refuses to consider. In their response to me, the rescue stated: "We've adopted out nearly 25,000 dogs over 15 years--roughly half of them puppies--and have always followed pediatric spay/neuter protocols with the support of 19 veterinary offices, without similar reports or documented patterns of complications related to urinary incontinence or long-term hormonal issues." I have her medical records and offered to submit them, but they never asked for them--so my dog becomes yet another 'undocumented complication.' Adopting from this group isn't inexpensive. I paid $550, and they required another $200 donation as a "benefactor" for another dog's medical care. Yet when my own dog's complications became clear, there was no support, no refund, no shared concern--only a blanket policy stating they don't assist adopters with medical care after the adoption. While I don't believe this rescue intentionally hands off dogs with medical issues, their protocol--despite being supported by some vets--carries known risks. My own vet, and many others, do not support pediatric sterilization in large breeds. This wasn't disclosed, discussed, or even acknowledged as a possibility. Think very carefully before supporting this group. Ask hard questions. You will find that once you sign the adoption papers, you--and the dog--are on your own.

Have since adopted from another organization and met multiple owners who adopted from HAL, none of whom had fenced yards. Have also met multiple dog owners who were denied adoption from HAL. Common theme, all those denied adoption were 60+, all those who were allowed adoption were under 50. So.....HAL discriminates based on age.

It had hardwood floors and goes further back than it looks, quite a large space for a small town pet store. It was super clean and well-arranged with a modern ambiance. They offer a large variety of pet foods. I didn't think they would have our brand, but they did AND in a variety of flavors! The food was about $5-6 more expensive than Petsmart for a 25 lb. bag, which didn't bother me since I would spend that much in gas and depreciation to go to Petsmart anyways. It's worth the convenience. They also had cute doggie treats (even cake pops and birthday bones!), toys, the SOFTEST beds (Quiet Time is my new fav brand!), and other high quality items related to dog care in any form. They had a lot for cats and maybe other animals as well, but we were clearly focused on dog items. :) I will definitely go back when I need stuff for my dogs. Always price check to see if it's worth it to you as well as the selection. For me, it's perfect!

Customers…read morealways ask 'Do they get the dogs from puppy mills?' and the salesperson will always say 'Oh, no absolutely not- they're from breeders in the midwest'. Right. Puppy mills. You have to understand that these salespeople work on commission. You should see these dogs when they come in. Tiny kennel cabs and they are completely covered in urine and feces. The dogs are ridiculously scared after being in a plane or truck all the way from Nebraska, Oklahoma, what have you. They are well taken care of when they get to the store as far as feeding, water, changing their pans underneath their cages, and grooming. But honestly, these dogs spend almost no time out of their cages all day unless people play with them. Or if they are big and have been at the store long enough without being sold to be put on a walk list which means they get about 15 minutes or so out of their cage to have a quick walk outside the mall. It's just sad. And people always buy them because they feel bad for them. People! Stop feeling bad for them! The reason their cages are filled with another puppy right after you buy one is because there is demand. The other thing I never understood is why people buy a $1300 chihuahua (for example) at the pet store rather than buying one from an actual breeder for $600. I will tell you- they make a living off people being impulsive with their extra thousands of dollars laying around. If you have bought a dog from here, visit petshoppuppies.org and they will send you a free puppy report on your dog's breeder. I got my dog from this store and found USDA records from the breeder that showed that there were over 900 dogs (at the time of inspection) with many missing limbs, jaws, eyes, etc. in cages stacked precariously and rusting out. Standing cess pools, etc. Disgusting.
