So we decided to go here and eat after a trip up to Chateau Morrisette and having a recommendation from Ray in the tasting room. I was not disappointed! Dogtown doesn't look like the site of a great pizza place but don't let that put you off. There is a nice selection of craft beer on draft as well as a decent wine list written on the chalk board. One gets the feeling that while they take their craft seriously, they don't take themselves too seriously. I get the vibe that they really have fun there. The pizzas were great, cooked in a wood fired oven no less. This gives a great flavor to the crust, those little burnt bits on the edges are the real treasure. We ordered a few different pizzas but the best was the Piasano, topped with local made sausage, caramelized onions, and cheese. Yum! Floyd, VA is a little town but this was a nice gem was worth the beautiful drive there. read more

The way pizza should be! They get so many things right: The crust is of perfect thickness: not thin so it tears easily and all you taste is toppings, and not thick so you can't fold it in half. Neither dry nor oily. It's stretchy like a pizza crust should be, not crumbly or bread-like. No annoying cornmeal stuck to the bottom. And not burnt; just nicely browned and toasted in spots. Regardless of what some shops seem to think and have fooled many diners into believing, crust burned to carbon-black is NOT a good thing. I could go on. If I had to dock any points on the crust I might say it was a bit heavily salted. That wasn't really a problem for me - I love salt - but might be objectionable to some. I did not order a traditional pizza but rather one of their specials, "The Appalachian". Sausage, caramelized onion, aged white cheddar and goat cheese over an apple butter Base. An intriguing combination that really works. You don't really taste the apple butter as an apple or dessert flavor; rather it comes across as another dimension of sweetness that works really well with the caramelized onions which were expertly slow-cooked and nicely brown and caramely. Goat cheese with its salty tang offsets the sweetness and of course cheddar and apple pie are a classic combination so the cheddar works with the apple butter. The sausage was thinly sliced, mildly spicy, and fairly abundant. To add to the many positives they cook the pizzas in that beautiful wood-fired oven that features prominently in the interior decor. The wood oven and the open kitchen add another whole dimension of interest to what would otherwise be a fairly ordinary sports bar. Given the choice I'd much rather watch the kitchen activity than the telly, yet another gang of overpaid men running around throwing balls and chasing each other. I wish I could have tried an ordinary tomato sauce and mozzarella-style pizza too for comparison purposes. My specialty pizza was terrific but unique so it is hard to compare with other shops. Surprisingly, they don't seem to offer standard combinations like pepperoni and mushroom on the menu, but all the ingredients are there and you can easily "make your own" for a reasonable price. (That's what the DW did and ironically she ended up with something very similar to mine, minus the apple butter. She liked hers too.) Also surprising: the a-la-carte toppings didn't include many common ingredients which I really like, such as hamburg, meatball, and eggplant. They would need to offer these to get 5 stars from me. As to the service: we were seated quickly, our waitress was great, and the food was cooked quickly and perfectly, with no mistakes. Excellent service to go along with the excellent food. They also have a stage and apparently have live music several evenings (except - naturally - the evening we were there). Looks like a good place to hear music and worth checking out. Though for my musical tastes I am probably more suited for the Floyd Country Store, nearby, which seems to be their main competitor on the Floyd music scene. read more

Good pizza and decent beer menu in little ole' Floyd. We met relatives here and had dinner on a Friday. There was a big crowd but the service was good for having 10 people. I made my own pizza with pepperoni meat and cheese and spinach. Good crust, kinda salty and nice flavor, compliments of the marinara sauce and loved the goat cheese! The beer menu had three sections but surprisingly the first section is the only one you can order from until that one is tapped. Weird but that's the procedure. However they did have about eight options of styles of beer. The music was not on until 8 so we didn't hear the live band. Street parking available or you can park and walk nearby. read more

First time here! We ventured up from Roanoke with our dogs and sat on their pet-friendly patio. The server recommended the wings and we chose the buffalo flavor. He wasn't lying when he said they were the best around. They were some of the best wings we've ever had!! We also ordered the Appalachia pizza which was unique but very good. Almost had a dessert pizza vibe to it. Crust was so light and airy but also crispy. Only complaint is that it had little to no sausage on it. My husband and I went on a weeknight in July around 7ish when they were having trivia. The place was slammed! The two bartenders doing the best they could to keep up. The wait for a table was right at 30 minutes, which the hostess had informed us previously. The hostess was very friendly and competent. The waiter was not overly helpful with the menu or friendly, but was efficient. We ordered a pizza and it was ok. The place was loud, crowded, and the food just ok. Probably more of a bar than a restaurant. They advertise bands on the weekends. Which is probably fun. The atmosphere was crowded, not big enough to handle the amount of people in there. The stage was nicely done with theater curtains. This is a place to come to if you want a drink, bar food, and don't mind crowds. Not a place for a nice meal and room to feel like your not sandwiched in between people. read more

Not the only pizza place in town, but the only none chain pizza place in town. Well worth the expense and the service was great. Was here at lunch on a weekday and it wasn't crowded. My only complaint was that the music was a little too loud but the choice in music was awesome. This whole town is a little jewel tucked away in the Virginia mountains. The pizza and salad were amazing. The appetizers were solid and the wings were ok- bar food-wise. The drink menu was wonderful and you can't beat the atmosphere of friendliness. The restaurant and porch ( beautiful porch area) are clean and well cared for, thank you staff and owner! My rating was for the fact that we had finished our salad and pizza when the paltry portion of wings arrived for our 3rd person in our party ( he had our food while he was waiting, so nobody starved) to eat for dinner. It was 6 wings and the server made a flippant joke and walked away. That is not acceptable, especially from a small and cozy town like Floyd. We've visited this restaurant while in town visiting family three times now. The pizza is some of the best pizza we've had. The atmosphere is rustic and welcoming. The equation is quite simple actually. Decent pizza, great beers, and even better company = a pretty darn good time. Full disclosure: I was here for a wedding reception so I'm naturally predisposed to have a good time. But one quick look at the beers on tap and I knew we were in for a good time. I believe I only recognized one beer on tap. The wood-fired pizzas were decent but nothing extraordinary. Definitely had better thin crust pizzas but they went well with the food. HERE I am in Floyd VA, it's getting small town late. AKA, sidewalks roll up soon. I have been to Dogtown Roadhouse a couple of time pre-Covid. Completely different vibe until this &@^§#$ pandemic is OVER! No bar seating, paper plates and plastic cups/utensils, no table ordering, etc. No music (tonight - Friday), close at 9p. I get all that. My disappointing surprise was $20 (!!!) for a 12 (twelve) inch pizza. Is it just me or does that seem pricey? Does to me, but hope it is a great pizza. read more

Amazing Pizza and wings!!! We ordered by phone for pick up 45 mins in advance. However when we arrived there was no plan at the at the door for pickup or Social distancing. There was a crowd at the door with service being only first come first serve. So I was stuck behind 7 people clustered at the door looking at a posted menu and had to wait in line to eventually pick up my food. There was only one person working the register. Pre-Covid I ate here nice before. The food was great however the couple at the table next to me kindly asked their waitress to take my order because I was completely ignored for 30 mins. Let me tell you for chicks who didn't want a dessert then order a cookie dessert we were beginning to get "angry" wanting that cookie. The drums beating from the African music didn't help. ;) We were laughing but now wondering "Where is this cookie?" OH.MY.GOSH!!!! Out came this glorious cookie pizza from scratch! It was PURE HEAVEN. Worth every second of waiting (which honestly wasn't that long) worth every calorie...worth the spoon battle that took place at the table! Normally women are shy when it comes to a dessert. NOPE! The first bites we were like "WTH!" Next thing you know we were all fighting who was going to take the bites of that cookie dessert. Picture siblings and a parent having to back arm separate while driving. That was taking place in that iron dish! I decided to take a little drive today because the pictures I saw of the pizza here on yelp reviews made it seem worth it. I'm so glad yelp exists! I never would've known to go here without it! This restaurant is in an old factory. It has high ceilings and exposed brick, giving it a groovy feel. They decorated it perfectly with long black curtains and art. There's a bar that's just so cool looking and inviting, TVs and a stage for performances, which they have often but the star of this place is their brick oven where magic happens. They offer appetizers, sandwiches, soups, salads and the best PIZZA. We ordered one with prosciutto, caramelized onions and goat cheese. Guys. Get that. I can't love it enough. Their crust is really good. Perfect, even. I can't wait to go back. Also, they make a good Bloody Mary and have a nice craft beer selection. We so enjoyed our meal at Dogtown today. We sat outside on their big deck over looking a soon-to-be amphitheater and downtown Floyd. We had a summer spinach salad with peppers and dried fruit, with an outstanding tangy vinaigrette. We also started off with beer battered mushrooms with a smoked Mayo- pretty delicious mushrooms but the dip really made it- we had to order a second portion of it. Not only was their service NOT slow, it was friendly and efficient even though the place was packed! We were seated quickly and when we mentioned to the waitress that we were trying to make the show, she assured us that there would be no problem. We ordered and Paesan Pizza and were pleasantly surprised to find a most tender crust with just the right amount of cheese, caramelized onions and local sausage. It was delivered hot to our table and even though the waitress was busy with a large table of 12, she still saw our signal to bring another beer and when ready, the takeout box and check. How great it must be to be the only game in town. This place needs some competition. Service is abysmal. Beer selection is average for a restaurant in a town this size. Food is good, but meager. We ordered nachos, paid $2 extra for sausage. There was about 1/8 cup of sausage crumbles scattered over a plate full of broken, bottom of the bag chips. The couple of full sized, unbroken chips that we got were good. The "Paisan" pizza was advertised with sausage and caramelized onions. 5 of the 8 pieces of pizza had a few (very few) sprinkles of sausage on it. Service was the worst part. Lazy, apathetic, unfriendly.....I understand why people got there; there is simply no where else to go. read more

I love pizza. Who doesn't? But what most people call pizza is bland crust covered in cheap cheese. Dogtown does pizza the way it was meant to be. The crust is delicious, with a yeasty, chewy, wonderful texture. The cheese is top-notch. The veggies are fresh. But what really makes it special is that wood-fired oven. There's something about pizza cooked in a 700 degree wood-fired oven that gives it amazing flavor. The guys are great, they even let my father and I behind the counter to get a better look at the oven. If you're in Floyd for a weekend, try it. You won't be sorry. read more

The waitress apologized and said she had taken a percentage off because of the wait. A whole two dollars. The band was fun, the pizza tastes great, but for about double what we normally pay for pizza, to have it be cold and take an hour to be served is not acceptable. Herd about this restaurant from a friend, so we rode our bikes to Floyd Va from Martinsville. We had pizza which was great and some draft beer that was excellent. Also the had some local folks singing on stage. The prices were a little high but not to bad. The service was very good also. We will definitely go back again. read more
