The sushi quality has gone down. I used to rave about how good it was. I will not be doing that anymore, its mediocre at best. Our waitress was wonderful and the atmosphere was nice. The thing that really turns me off about Dokyo is the fact that I was lied to about my reservation. They required a $20 deposit per person to even make my reservation for seven people. I was hesitant but was assured it would be refunded within 48 hours of the reservation. After not receiving the refund by day six I decided to call. After explaining the situation to the gentleman that answered the phone he put me on a brief hold, then came back and said he couldn't find a manager and to call back in 30min. Called back 30 min later and the lady that answered the manager's line proceeded to tell me the manager is out of town and that he/she is the only person that deals with reservation reimbursements. WTF we spent over $250 dollars for dinner and they have not reimbursed the $140 that I was told I would get back within 48 hours. read more

Just walked out on a reservation me and my spouse made for this restaurant. This is a place I refer most of my clients to when they come in from out of town. So we arrived 20 minutes prior to our reservation and were told we could be seated immediately, to our surprise. We waited 25 minutes before we finally stopped the bartender who passed us multiple times, and asked if we would be assisted. The bartender who we stopped, got irritated with my spouse asking and alerted the other waitress. This particular waitress had previously passed us several times. She approached our table and told us she guess she would assist us, as she did not know whereabouts of our waitress. It was so disrespectful we made the choice to leave somewhere we weren't wanted. The fact that no one even acknowledged us until we spoke up was so disappointing. This used to be a place we really enjoyed. If you're a person of color, I would recommend you spend your hard earned income at a restaurant that values your business. read more

The service was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. We sat at 7:40, ordered drinks and food, drinks arrived at around 8:00. It's now 8:45, our waitress passed by us about 20 times blatantly ignoring if we needed anything or to mention our food. I stopped her to ask and she replies sushi is busy tonight and she can't control the food. She comes back around maybe five minutes later saying the food is being plated. At around 9:00 a guy comes out saying allow five more minutes to which we said no thanks. After explaining the ordeal to the head waiter, our waitress comes back saying she saw us speaking to the head waiter, giving the same excuse as if we don't understand the difference between a chef and a waiter when all we needed from her was service and updates and to at the least get us another drink. We ultimately left without eating there because they tried to drown out our inconveniences with free food as opposed to understanding the real issue at hand. I was excited to get to this restaurant after 2 awful dinners from other places in Corpus. We left disappointed. To start, they ONLY have QR code menus. I asked for regular menus and was told there are none. But, to see the different options on the menu, you have to click different links, which removes the previously viewed menu items so if you can't remember what you wanted, want to check again, etc, you are SOL. Very annoying. People want to sit and enjoy each others company, NOT stare at their phones. HUGE miss here. Edamame was literally lathered in garlic which I love, but not that much. My son's sushi was good but mine was not. Instead of being in a roll it was sliced and layered on top of each other? So weird and fell apart when picked up. I had to stick them like with a fork. The Gyoza was decent. Finally we realized we were still hungry so ordered the shrimp and veg tempura. HUGE disappointment as it was very undercooked. I do NOT like batter in my tempura. Seriously, for the hype and the fact that you have to make a reservation and give a credit card in case you don't show, I expected MUCH better. Fix the menu situation that's stupid. read more

Really have a great menu to choose from. Our waitress Liz recommended the Kimchi Pancake for the appetizer. What a great choice. My party ordered the Nigiri Box, Beef Yakisoba, and the recommended Barbecue Beef Don. They didn't disappoint in flavor or serving size. Quaint place in the downtown area. I love the food at this place. What I dont love is the last 2 times i have been here, i sat at the tables facing the sushi bar. The sushi chefs fix the plates and sit them on the bar for pick up. I watched fixed plates sit for more than 10 mins while flies jump from plate to plate. This has happened the last 2 times. The service is good, but slow, and, watching flies touch every plate is disgusting. Do better. You all have good drinks and food. I hate leaving a bad review for a local place trying to bring some diversity to the food scene in Corpus but I've eaten here about 4 times now and each time I give it another chance, I get let down once again cause I want so badly to like it! I'll start with the good. The cocktails here are awesome and the atmosphere is really enjoyable. I highly recommend the Haru if you like Jameson. It's a sweet and refreshing take on a whiskey cocktail. Now for the bad...the service here is terrible. Only some of the staff are friendly while others are inattentive. Food comes out slow, even when it's not packed. Sometimes even served cold. The portions are a joke compared to the price you're paying. And the food isn't even that good. It's definitely overhyped and overpriced. You're definitely paying more for the presentation and atmosphere of this place rather than for the food itself. With every dish I try, I'm left feeling burned. Sadly, won't ever waste my money here again on food. Will probably only be back if I'm feeling fancy and in the mood for a 15 dollar cocktail. read more

As for the food, we got: * The Boston Roll: the perfect combination of flavors and textures; truly prepared by an exquisite sushi maker. *The House Salad with Miso Dressing: a good, fresh salad, but not my favorite. The dressing was slightly too tart for my taste, and a little overpowering. * The Steak Bento Box: awesome! The sauce on the beef was flavorful and appetizing, the sashimi/nigiri was fresh and delicious, the tempura veggies were crispy and full of flavor, and the salad was pretty good (see above). All of this would not have led me to put them time and effort into writing a review if we wouldn't have had such a poor experience with the manager. The policy is an additional $20 fee for any change to guest reservation. I can understand that if the restaurant is slammed but we were one of three tables. Multiple tables walked in without a reservation and were sat and our table was casually pushed together when we got there. So when we asked the manager if this could be considered she was extremely rude in her response and walked away abruptly. I had no idea how new it was when I suggested to my husband that we try it. There was a 20 or 30 wait when we got there but apparently they take reservations so I'll make a mental note about that next time we go. While the service was great, it did take a while to get our food but since it was so busy in there, I didn't mind so much. The sushi was fresh and tasty and it practically melts in your mouth. The only issue we had was that our waitress brought out our sushi with one roll missing which she said would be right out. We had finished the rest of the food but never got the last roll. We asked her just to take it off the bill and she did so with no argument and lots of apologies. Again, since they are so new and were super busy, I'll make allowances for that.
