The gelato here tastes good and the service is decent. It's quite spacious in his for a dessert cafe. There's plenty of seating and the decor is more on the elegant side of things. I tend to stick to go-to flavours, so I haven't ventured outside of my usual raspberry and mango combination yet I'm sure I will, as the other flavours look very good as well. Clean, fruity, and smooth is the best way I can describe the texture and taste. They also sell cake by the slice. The Stracciatella ice cream is a must here! It is very sweet, but the dark chocolate bits neutralize the sweetness. The names for the sizes are quite humorous; getting a cone with only one scoop is called a "Baby". It was my second time here since their lemon gelato made me come back. Once you choose whether you want a cone or a cup (all the sizes are displayed at the cash register), you pay, get your ticket, and then when you give your ticket to the server, you can ask to sample as many different flavours as you can. Trying not to be that annoying customer, I didn't get to try all of their sorbets, but I was happy with the two I ordered! The grapefruit and pear both tasted fresh, and I love feeling the pear-y texture in my sorbet. My friend got a pistachio cone gelato, half way through she noticed a strand of hair in the gelato. When we took it to the sever/manager's attention she first asks us how did that get there? Not apologetic at all! Trust me it looked nasty. Anyway my friend then wanted a mango flavour instead of the pistachio but she refused to give it to her stating that she can only have the same thing. Well I wasn't happy with it and I don't usually make a fuss but that was just unacceptable. So I took back the pistachio and asked for another flavour that my friend would like, she tells me that we can't have any other flavour, so I asked for a refund. She said okay but did not give me a refund and just gives us the mango flavour gelato. I will never go back to this place. Completely disappointed on how things were handled. I've tried a lot of gelato places and this ones definitely not the best. I think it's location works to its advantage. However the flavours taste mediocre and the prices don't quite go with the taste offered. We ordered a medium tiramisu gelato and a medium strawberry shortcake sorbet. While the shortcake was decent( still not the best I've had), the former didn't taste like a tiramisu at all. It was way too sweet and watery for a Gelato and for our liking. The rude demeanour of the staff and a limit of 3 on the number of samplers just added to an average experience. By far one of the best gelatos I've had. Their pistachio sicilia was close to perfection. Not too overpowering to the point it tasted fake and just enough flavour to be able to taste the smooth delicate taste of pistachios. Also tried their hazelnut. Taste was powerful. Overpowered the pistachio, but that was a given since the but itself is more flavourful. I decided to eat all the pistachio before starting on the hazelnut. I love the Kensington Market. The area and everything around it. Our place that we stayed at was right next to here. I came here for dessert after dinner with my friend. The interior is super cute and they decorated it for Halloween. They have great music, definitely dig it. They have many different favors of gelato. They also let you try different samples before you make a decision. Next to the gelato flavors they also have an area for coffee too if you wanted coffee. They gelato is smooth and so soft, which is why I love gelato. I got a small that comes with two different flavors. It was a little pricey for the size, but they fill it up all the way. It was really flavorful and they have cute colorful spoons! They also have free wifi here too if you wanted to come work or study. read more

Dolce Gelato is a favourite stop in Kensington Market. Three and a half stars. The gelato is good, but some varieties are better than others. If you are thinking fruit flavours choose grapefruit (delicious) over pineapple (tastes like canned pineapple juice). The chocolate is very good, while the mint is fairly average. I've passed by this placed whenever I went on a food quest in Kensington Market but it never really hit me that it was a Dolce Gelato location until on Saturday when the enthusiastic lady leading our group of equally enthusiastic foodies recommended we go there to cool ourselves after a good stroll in the sun. Boing! Now I can satisfy my eagerness to try the gelato from the College Street location; in other words I can wait awhile before heading to that store. I'm guessing that this location is the smallest out of all the locations in the city. I picked a small cup of the Fragola (strawberry based) and the Bacio (chocolate and hazenut based) gelatos. For me the small cup was good enough to add a light finish after filling lunch. The fruit based flavors would be a good choice as a light and refreshing finish after a full meal After a pretty mediocre experience another supposedly well reputed store on Yonge and Davisville (namely GSI), I'm pretty content with the warm service and quality and taste of the flavors I had at the Kensington Dolce location. The Fragola had an icy, refreshing taste which acted like a palette cleanser, especially after having a bite of the chocolate, creamy texture of the Bacio one. The Fragola seemed to clear my mouth of the slight bitter chocolate taste of the Bacio, so I ended up alternating between the two flavors. The portion was decent enough for the small size and the gelati still held their forms and textures in the cup even before I started to slow dismantle them. I don't think either flavor ever started melting as soon as their were scooped out of their cooling unit. Yes, I've given the store 3 stars only because it's my first time having it but hopefully another trip there will bump that up by one more star. read more
