My party chose to order the lunch specials that are offered on weekdays. These include a choice of house or cucumber salad, and two small plates or sushi rolls for a fixed price. Both salads were flavorful and good-sized portions. We loved the spicy crab, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura rolls! I was impressed that they removed the inedible portion of the shrimp tail on the latter, something most restaurants fail to do. But, can we talk about the Detroit-style pizza? Not only was it authentic, but it was absolutely delicious! As someone who grew up in Detroit, Blackbird did a phenomenal job with it, and made me feel nostalgic. I looked around the room at all the people eating and said to one of the other waitstaff, "You're closed?" She looked embarrassed and said, "Well, the kitchen is closed...." She seemed to understand that her colleague's behavior was inappropriate in a retail eating establishment. He shouldn't leave this job to be a greeter at Walmart. He would be bad at that. I nodded and walked out. I'm having Japanese food across the street. I really didn't want Japanese food for dinner, but the food is always good at Hama and the hospitality is always superior.
