Came here on a recommendation from a friend. When we arrived we were told there is about a 25 min wait. We had no issue waiting and visited the awesome book store just next door. We received a call when our table was ready. Cool! The interior is simple very relaxed atmosphere. Staff is over the top friendly and welcoming. They had a Saturday Brunch menu as well as the regular menu. The menu offers a wonderful selection of food and drinks I ordered the spicy Bloody Mary and my husband got the regular. I had a hard time choosing my food as so many items looked so yummy. Our waitress said everything on the menu is tasty but did point out some favorites. I ordered the Baja wrap which was very good and satisfying I also ordered a side of eggplant fries. The fries were very oily and later on I felt sluggish because that oil sat like a brick I had to drink Pepto. I almost took one star off because of the oily fries but perhaps that was my own fault since I don't eat much fried food, I should have used better judgement. My husband ordered everything bagel with smoked salmon and the taco salad. Both were very good he said. The dessert table looked amazing so I got a couple of cupcakes for my friends kids, s'mores and chocolate chip cookies all were very tasty they said. The place is busy, coffee smelled delicious and tasted very well made. I will return.

Tasteless French toast, a supposed flat white and a Rapha RCC cycling cap. Also people's legs, table and chair along with a window.

The service was great and friendly. I had ordered the French toast which I was super excited about. Once I got my French toast it looked awesome, but my excitement faded at the speed of light. The French toast had no flavor. No hint of vanilla, cinnamon or any of the other usual suspects you expect to come through when enjoying French toast. They served it with no butter, which they quickly brought out when asked, like I said the service is great! I lathered that toast up with butter like a glazed pig hoping that with the maple syrup would save this insult to the breakfast staple we know as French toast, but I had a better chance of winning the lottery. Even with all that sugar and fat I had to eventually abandon that dish because it was so tasteless I couldn't finish it. Now onto the coffee. I had ordered a flat white. They gave me a huge latte cup and the volume of coffee to match. Basically I got a large latte instead of a flat white. Ok, no biggie. Unfortunately due to the size of the latte the coffee was coming through weak. That said I had to add a double shot of espresso to correct it. In the end the coffee wasn't bad and I would order a cup here again, I would just let them know to keep the volume drink down when making the flat white. I saw they have a large selection of pastries which looked quite good, but I didn't try them. I would return but never order French toast again. I don't know if I would order anything off the breakfast menu due to my experience. Next visit will be a small flat white and muffin on my table.

Omelette in front; poached eggs at rear

Over-rated here. Although portions were large and presentation good, my omelette arrived cold while my wife's poached eggs were correct serving temperature. Evidence of a misdirected kitchen. Service was ok. When told of the improper temperature, the waitress did take the omelette back for reheating. Returned, it was still cold. I gave up on it. For New Canaan prices, this is not worth it. Indoors is noisy. Outdoors, where we sat was okay. Nice view of the Lucids and Rivians passing by, as well as the undiscerning yuppies at hand.

Huevos Rancheros done the way they should be. . . And more. Delicious. They were kind enough to split our order and it was huge. The eggplant fries.... You HAVE to try them. Crunchy but not greasy at all. It was crowded on the weekends but the staff was friendly while actively trying to accommodate everyone.

So we're here in New Canaan for lunch before a concert. Found this place on the internet. They don't take reservations, so we had to wait for 20 minutes. I've decided to sit outside meeting Bella and Bowie two delightful doggies, until my friend arrives. Finally seated, the place is very whimsical with a mishmash of different furniture. Picnic tables included. The art on the wall is bright and fun. Our table near the front window is bright and inviting. Thankfully not the two seats near the front door , Rob our waiter comes right over. First some cocktails, Prosecco for me and my quest a grapefruit mimosa. For breakfast pancakes and a spinach, mushroom cheddar omelet. But first we just have to have one of those blueberry muffins! Rob brings over a HUGE muffin. My guest says one of the best she's ever had. The food they've brought is over the top. WOW delicious, delicious, delicious! Abundant. So we're sitting, chatting away until show time. Glad they're not throwing us out. Yet! Ha ha

    Brioche French Toast

Decided to visit for some French Toast after checking local spots near me but I was very disappointed when I opened them. The bread was super soggy and just tasted like eggs and does not justify the $20 price. I should point out that the workers were nice and welcoming but overall disappointed in the food.

This spot is def my favorite in New Canaan! It's always busy which is a great sign. The host takes your number and calls when your table is ready which allows you to shop in charming downtown New Canaan. The ambience is charming and changes periodically by focusing on various artists or decorating for holidays. Always a good cafe vibe though. I've been going to Rosie for a couple of years now and was surprised I had not written a Yelp review yet. The staff is attentive and friendly. And the owner is almost always on the premises. It always makes me happy when the owners are present. Today I had the turkey chili which was perfect for this cold January day. One of my favorites is the crispy cauliflower either as an appetizer or as tacos. So good with just the right amount of spice. Rosie isn't afraid of cooking with bold spices which is one of the main reasons I keep coming back. Not spicy hot...just bold flavors. I've had all of the tacos and been happy across the board. The lobster when it's in season is incredible. And I often take a blueberry muffin or a s'mores cookie home with me. They've handled the pandemic very well. Always wearing masks, socially distant, reduced capacity, disinfecting, hand sanitizer available, etc. they do a very good catering and takeout business as well which is great. I'm a big fan. Just know that it is going to be busy and there will most likely be a wait. The food isn't fast food. They used to have a saying on the chalkboard that said something to the effect of "Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is your breakfast". But I've always been taught that good things come to those who wait...and Rosie is always worth the wait. Sumita was my server today and she is always attentive to detail and friendly. Lindsay, Matt, Rob...I've never met a staff member that I didn't like!

First time in New Canaan and just had one of the best brunches ever. The food and service were unreal. I want to go back to try everything on the menu. This place was highly recommended by a friend and he said Rosie is the loveliest lady. The lavender from my lavender mimosa came directly from her garden. The Tipsy Farmer and the brisket nachos were bomb ass tasty. Make sure to visit when you're in town! It'll be worth the wait.

Because I didn't experience any of them. I've lived in the next town for almost eight years. In that time I've eaten at the New Canaan Diner AT LEAST 100 times. This night was not special; just looking for a late night hamburger. It's Friday night, May 9. It's raining. The sign in the window says that they are open until 9 pm. I walked in at 8:40 pm. Ok, a little late, but I just wanted a hamburger. More than half of the tables were filled. All of the seats at the counter were filled. People were eating. All good signs. The waiter said, "We're closed," and immediately turned his back to me. Not "Sorry, we're closed." Just "We're closed," and I got his back. I looked around the room at all the people eating and said to one of the other waitstaff, "You're closed?" She looked embarrassed and said, "Well, the kitchen is closed...." She seemed to understand that her colleague's behavior was inappropriate in a retail eating establishment. He shouldn't leave this job to be a greeter at Walmart. He would be bad at that. I nodded and walked out. I'm having Japanese food across the street. I really didn't want Japanese food for dinner, but the food is always good at Hama and the hospitality is always superior. All the chefs at the sushi bar bow and say "thank you" as I leave. I'm sure that their gratitude is not deeply sincere, but it beats "We're closed" followed by an abrupt about-face. The diner is dead to me. At least for a while.

It took a long time just to get menus and even longer for them to take our order. Throughout most of the meal, no one checked on us--only toward the very end did anyone come by. For an appetizer, we ordered the guacamole and chips, and the chips came out cold. We actually had to ask them to heat them up, which shouldn't be necessary at a restaurant like this. For our entrées, the experience didn't improve. The chicken was slimy, and the grilled lamb was bland and lacked any real flavor. We couldn't even finish our meals. The seating made things worse. We were placed in a corner right next to what appeared to be a service station. Staff were constantly coming in and out, which made it difficult to relax or enjoy any sense of privacy--especially on a special occasion. What was most concerning was the cleanliness. The wall directly behind our table was visibly dirty, with streaks that looked like spilled drinks that had never been cleaned. For a restaurant at this level, that's simply unacceptable. They did bring out small complimentary muffins/cupcakes for our anniversary, which was a nice gesture, but unfortunately they were dry and underwhelming. The biggest issue came at the end of the meal. We had a gift card (with receipt and order number), but they couldn't locate it in their system. The assistant general manager assured us it would be resolved in a few days and asked us to pay another way in the meantime. After multiple follow-ups over the course of more than two and a half weeks--calls and emails--we still have not received any resolution or refund. Communication has been inconsistent at best and nonexistent at worst. I've been here a few times before and each visit has gotten progressively worse. I really wanted to like this place, but after this experience, I won't be returning.
