Unfortunately, after today's experience, I will not be returning. I had booked an appointment for a color treatment today. After my hair was colored and washed, I was left in the chair with wet hair for over 45 minutes, with no one coming to assist me. I could see my stylist cutting another client's hair, so I went to the receptionist to ask if someone would be drying my hair. She informed me that I hadn't booked a blowout, so no one would be drying my hair. I was taken aback and asked, "So I'm expected to leave the salon with wet hair, in a gown and towel?" She replied that some customers do. I was in shock. I then approached someone else, and when I finally interrupted to ask what was happening, I was in tears from the embarrassment and frustration of the situation. This appointment was a birthday treat that my husband had arranged for me, and it was completely ruined. The owner was kind and apologized, drying my hair himself and offering me a 50% discount, but honestly, at that point, it felt insufficient given how upset I was. I paid, acknowledging the costs of materials and such, but I will not be returning to this salon again.

It has been two weeks since I got my hair dyed and cut and it still feels as beautiful as the day I walked out of Dolce. Having extremely curly hair I don't just trust anyone but Michelle Joy to cut my hair and make her magic. I have been going to Dolce for over 5 years, I have always had a great experience but nothing like the one I had the last time at their new location. Everything from the new location, the glamorous & gorgeous interiors, to the uber chic welcoming with a glass of Sauvignon blanc. I was left speechless, needless to say. As an interior designer myself I was impressed, there was no doubt in my mind that if a place looks and feels that great I would come out looking like a super star. The owner did quite a phenomenal job with the interiors, location, and extremely friendly staff. Long behold, I was not disappointed. With my busy schedule, I was also impressed that they have late days that can accommodate my crazy schedule. Everything about the experience was amazing, from the bounce in my curls to the super glam vibe. I recommend Dolce to everyone that needs that needs to be pampered and a quick escape to the lap of luxury. It also doesn't hurt to have a fab model Michelle Joy making sure you are comfortable and smiling during the whole experience. I give Dolce 10 stars!!! read more

I never write Yelp reviews but I had to write one about Aleck (Aleksandra) at Dolce. I used to get my hair done in Hoboken for years but spent a year trying to find someone closer to home. I finally found Aleck after reading reviews and pictures of her work and I'm so happy I did. I've always done highlights/foils in the past but wanted to try balayage and was nervous about it, but Aleck did such an AMAZING job!!! She really is an artist and super meticulous about her work..she looks at every strand to make sure it's exactly the way/color it should be. She cares about your hair as much as you do and wants to make sure you are completely satisfied. Well, I was more than satisfied and would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone for balayage or for color in general. The color/tones were exactly what I wanted and I can't wait to go back!!! On the recommendation of a friend, I went to visit JuJu to totally revamp my hair color. I told him to work his magic and do whatever he thought would look best--I was open to suggestions. He said "honey, I'm going to make your eyes POP!" And BOOM! Did he ever! It's the best color--the best set of highlights--I've ever had in my life. JuJu made it work for my skin tone, my eyes, and my lifestyle (I wear my hair up a lot), picking a color blend I wouldn't have ever thought of for myself (blonde with some red here and there). I lived in NYC for years and paid top dollar for good color, but JuJu's artistry beats it all. Six weeks later, the color still looks fresh, and works perfectly with my natural color as it grows in--my roots aren't obvious at all. I've been a client of Heather's for over 4 years and in all of my hair experience (which has been plentiful), I've never met any hair stylist as consistently talented! I started seeing Heather for just blow outs and now see her for everything hair-related including color and cuts. Prior to Heather, my hair was damaged and always a brassy green (I'm supposed to be a dirty blond) and she has been able to transform my curly light brown hair into a perfect golden blond! What I love most about Heather is that she listens to my requests and is able to translate what I say into gorgeous color. She is also very honest -- if she thinks something will damage my hair, she will advise against it. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Heather. She is the best kept secret in NJ but word is definitely getting out -- book her now!! read more

I called Dolce really last minute today to see if they could accommodate me for a blowout, and I spoke to Kelly at the front desk, who was incredibly helpful, sweet and super efficient. She booked me with Aura, who has quite literally taken the experience that I expected to the next level! We hit it off about 3 seconds into the appointment. I was immediately at ease, and after a few minutes of chatting about my existing routine and my needs as a curly haired client I decided to have her cut my hair as well. IT IS GORGEOUS. She completely understood my whole vision combined with what I explained to her was my normal routine. The whole experience has been a dream. I have been a client of Mark Napolitano's for over 25 years and have followed him everywhere because he is THAT AWESOME! I have very thick hair and always keep it really short with a cut every 6-7 weeks. Mark knows just what I need the minute I sit in the chair. He has colored my hair in the past and I've always been thrilled with the color and texture of my hair after a treatment. Mark has also cut and styled my 13 year old daughter's hair for the past few years, most recently for her 8th grade graduation dance in June. We are ALWAYS impressed and extremely satisfied! The salon (to remain unnamed) where I had been going was not thrilling me and, on top of that, bumped my appointment (again!) so I decided to give Dolce a try. I had no idea what to expect. They set me up with Kevin Serratore. I think Kevin sensed that I needed some inspiration because after hearing my story, he made some suggestions, and then seemed to follow his instinct. The color was a huge improvement. Re the cut, at first I was a little unsure with the direction he went, but now I realize this is the best haircut I have had in a long time. Kevin is an artist. I'm still a relatively new client at Dolce and I can't say enough great things about this salon! Having thick 'ethnic' hair can unfortunately be daunting to some hair salons, but Auralis was able to give me an incredible cut (5 inches!) and blow out that kept my curls in mind but still looked great sleek! From the moment you walk in, you experience a cohesive staff that work seamlessly to deliver the best service I've received. From being greeted by name, offered a customized refreshment, and an endless choice of services to chose from, you really do feel special and welcomed. I met the owner Abe of Dolce Salon & Spa at a charity event a few weeks ago. We struck up a conversation and he told me he owned a solon and invited me to come in for a hair cut and style and I took him up on it. I was so impressed with the atmosphere, so many cutting stations, color rooms, massage, facial, you name it it was there! All professional and courteous staff. I have been going to Dolce for years for color and cut/blow-out and wouldn't go anywhere else. As soon as they re-opened, I scheduled an appointment for yesterday. Dolce has always been very particular about their cleanliness but obviously, due to COVID19, there are very strict rules for re-opening. I felt safe and appreciated the fact that they're following the rules to prevent any spreading of COVID19. They did not rush either. Aside from the obvious differences due to the rules for re-opening, such as masks etc., they provided the same, top-notch service as always. I have already scheduled my next appointment. I had just moved to the area and was getting married in a few months. Someone recommended Juju at Dolce and I figured I would give it a try. Well I lucked out! He not only did an amazing job with my color and keratin, he did my make up for my wedding and Amanda did my hair. They went above and beyond and Did the most amazing job. I'd been overpaying at the same place in Summit FOR-EVER with "eh" results, until someone recommended Aleck at this salon. Now, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Aleck's work is absolutely amazzzzing! Wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. I am a travel nurse, so I could literally be anywhere in the country at anytime. Having now used…read moretheir services for about a year, I wholeheartedly recommend their services, especially for color and curly hair. Reflecting South Orange and Maplewood, their clientele is multi-racial as is their staff. Having spent years blow drying my hair straight, or sort of straight, I wanted to go back to my natural wavy/curly hair and correct my color. My natural color is medium brown but now is about half gray. For years, I'd colored it a dark auburn, but recently it had become unattractive, sort of harsh looking. Plus the salon I was using while friendly and reasonably priced had little experience in reviving curly hair. I have only had cut, color and highlights with Kosia, the owner. As a new client, we had a consultation. She examined my hair and carefully listened to what I wanted. We reviewed a book of hair color samples; I picked out a color. To set expectations, Kosia told me to take at least two coloring sessions before my hair would match the color I'd selected. She was right. Yes, my hair, when cut properly is curly. We both ended up experimenting with various products to find one that worked consistently well with my hair. Since waiting for color to set in is inherently boring, I spend a lot of time either reading or looking at the other hairdressers and their clients. I've rarely seen anything that doesn't look really good. I've also had my hair highlighted, and unlike prior experiences, the highlights blended very well with my hair so I only need to do this every other appointment. Prices are moderate for a high end salon in Essex County NJ. For example, my Rezo cut is between $100 to $200 at comparable NJ places and far higher in NYC. (Trust me, I checked). I pay $110 with the owner. To be honest, I was used to paying a lot less, but my hair did not look nearly as good. Every place else that provided similar services is roughly the same price or more. For some reason, my hair stopped curling the way I knew it to do and it killed me because it looked so awful (My hair was gorgeous, curly and shiny). Belinda explained the history behind the haircut, the purpose of good products; she didn't push the brand products on me, either; she wanted to see how my hair would react to my normal styling products first (though I'm going back to purchase the Ouidad products soon - they're GREAT), and the importance of a diffuser for my hairstyle. Before my appointment, I thought the haircut was slightly on the expensive side, - but then I understood. I didn't just pay for the (AWESOME) haircut. I paid for the master class and the advice that came with how to deal with my hair from now on. And that, to me, is just as important as the cut and worth EVERY penny. I wanted to leave a review as soon as I left the salon after my service, unfortunately life got in my way. I don't normally leave reviews unless I feel STRONGLY about something or someone (be it positively or negatively). And you can be absolutely sure, I am recommending EVERYONE to this salon, especially to Belinda. Thanks so very much!

Zoe spent a lot of time listening to what I wanted and we worked out a plan that was checked and adjusted at each appointment. It's the same approach with Jackie, who cuts my hair.
