I zest the peels when cooking and it was hard to find one orange with usable peels. I did buy many other produce items, which were in fine shape. The deli has some good deals going on. $6 off prosciutto right now. If you've never tried the bacon from the butcher counter, you are missing out! It's the best we've found! The store is clean and looks great!

Don't assume that they took a whole chicken wing and cut it in to the separate pieces so that everyone could have a choice. If you thought that you would be wrong. I have never seen another company like Purdue etc. package their party wings this way. As you can see in my photos there is only one flat. My flat loving friends and family will be disappointed. I won't buy Big Y's party wings again and I highly recommend that you don't either because you don't know what you will get. Their packaging is misleading.

This attitude is unprofessional and does not endear customers to the store. Even when corporate visits the stores, they act and present themselves as if their only concern is making more money. I have heard the former bakery manager demeaning and berating employees on several occations. Filthy conditions in the meat area and deli. Hot foods sold in the deli department are not rotated properly - witnessed employee put fresh fried chicken on top of old fried chicken. A bakery employee told me, as a warning, that they have been instructed to peel the expiration date sticker off and mark it with a new expiration date sticker changing the symbol in between the numbers for day-date-month. There is a code to look for that indicates the change. If there are slashes (/) in between the dates or if there are dashes (-). I don't remember which is which but one of them means that the expiration date has been changed. For example if a product is marked as expiring on 5/12/26 employees replace the sticker with a new date changing the slash symbol in between the numbers to dashes. New applied expiration sticker: 5-17-26. Slashes and Dashes! They are scammers. Once I saw and heard all this I chose to change groceries stores. I advise you to as well.

When they posted their menu to Facebook there was your typical fare of sandwiches, burgers and hotdogs but also scratch made soups and some other interesting additions. Empanadas, tacos as well as pernil are all on the menu. Pernil, a slow roasted pork shoulder, is a celebration and special occasion staple in Puerto Rico and Puerto Rican homes usually served with arroz con gandules. My wife got the empanadas and I ordered the pernil and arroz con gandules. All was excellent, fresh and a wonderful change of pace to other dining options. The pernil was warmed on the griddle which gave it a fabulous crisp that complimented the rich flavor. On a return lunch trip we called ahead to pick up the order while working from home. Our order was waiting for us which was empanadas, including their bacon cheeseburger special (they also make breakfast variants), chicken salad sandwich with potato salad and their vegan butternut squash 'bisque'. The chicken salad was clearly homemade and the sandwich was a generous size. The sandwich included a side (potato salad, my choice) making it a good value. The butternut squash soup was excellent - very thick and there seemed to be noticeable apple bits that complimented the soup wonderfully. The staff was attentive and, while still getting their processes worked out, they were friendly and clearly committed to beginning good business and community members. The only quirk was that we had to order at the front at the main register and pickup in the back, with the posted menu being in the back. I'm certain this will be something that gets worked out over time. The store offers a lot of local products from Mountain Dairy through Hosmer Mountain soda. We are looking forward to going back to supporting them!

He did offer to go in back refrigerator and look for one not expired but quickly told me there was no guarantee he'd find. Then blamed Hood. I grabbed a good 1% and booked fast. Going forward, I'll be sure and never again forget milk during my usual grocery store (not Highland) trip.

The produce section is the best of most of the stores in the area (IMO) although sometimes things can be a bit expensive. I like that Big Y brings some different brands to our area. I've certainly found some things there that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. They have a great beer selection for a grocery store, I think they are associated with Table & Vine which means they have more local and small craft beers than your typical grocery store fare. Keep an eye on the sales for sure!
