Made reservation over a month ago and Been waiting for an hour for a car while others are getting theirs

Fuzzy math? Don't bother renting with Dollar, its a sham and their counter people are poorly trained snake oil sales people. Here's my scenario: mid-sized rental through Expedia, 4 day rental. Base price: $175.80 Taxes & Fees: $62.82 Car total: $238.62 Arrived at counter; "Sorry sir, all we have for you at this rate is an economy car. But I can upgrade you to an SUV for ONLY $66 a day." I said no. "Ok, how about X for $44." Again, I declined. "Okay, $28." The guy wouldn't stop. I finally got him to stop trying to up-sell me. I agreed to take the stupid economy, then agreed to pre-fueling. The charge was $72 for 20 gallons of gas in an economy car with a tank probably less than 14 gallons. I threw a fit. Then he told me I would be charged $250 if I smoked in the car. It's 20 degrees out and I smoke - deal breaker. I asked him to cancel the reservation. The National Rent A Car deal was not honored from Expedia. The mid-sized car price was actually $332 not the $175 in the reservation by Expedia. National Rent A Car had no interest in honoring the arrangement. Plus they still held the funds. This is not the first time I've had to deal with this. Dollar Rent A Car isn't cheap, just their training program and stupid sales tactics at the counter. I waltzed over to National (my first business choice) and rented from the Emerald Aisle for $323. I drove off with a AWD cross-over with 6000 miles on it in pristine shape. Screw Dollar Rent A Car and their cruddy mentality and sales gimmicks. Shame on Expedia for even listing their car offers when they obviously won't honor them. It was a huge waste of time that reflects poorly on both companies. Flying into Cleveland? Go to Alamo or National. You pay more than the cheapo-rents, but you get a whole lot less haggle and a lot more car. read more

Car smelled like vomit and alcohol. They gave a whopping $5.78 credit off the price of the rental. What a disgusting experience. Not impressed with Dollar Rent A Car's vehicle maintenance or customer service. Will not be giving my business to them anymore. read more

In short, This is definitely way way way worse than the worst business I've ever experienced Rethink a million times before you click on dollar rental! I bet you will regret it. They charge you extra nonsense fees two months later without your consent, such as toll administration fees which could be 10x bigger than your toll fees. They would never let you that before you rent the vehicle, or even after you return the vehicle and pay the bill. They will simply quietly hide this and let the third party company send you the bill for hundreds of dollars of fees that you are not even aware of. Stay away from this asssss hole biz. Picked up car from this location. It was around 8:00am in morning. There was no one at Dollar rental counter. There was only one nice lady at Thrifty rental who was taking care of thrifty and dollar rental customers. She was nice but there was wait involved. Once we were up , the process went smoothly. We were asked to go to lot to pick up car. All the cars looked like they needed car wash. Picked up a Nissan sentra. 3 hour later down the trip we found the AC did not work and it was such a hoy muggy day! We were driving down to new jersey. Once we reached out hotel we were already frustrated and sweaty from the hot 7 hour ride. We took more frequent breaks in between because of the broken AC. Anyways, after we got done unloading our stuff at the hotel car would not start back up. I called dollar and they said it might be the battery (even though I told them radio is working and lights are turning on). They would not give me an estimate on how much a jumper tow truck would come. They wanted me to wait all day. Really !?!? We rented a car with dollar - we ask them not to add any insurance on the contract. They did not. A week later we had to exchange the car because of weird noises coming from the car. They exchanged it quite easy, but added an insurance for the new and! for the old contract - without letting sign us anything, they added an additional insurance for already past time! They just took the money from my Visa Card without asking for it. The second car was kind of broken too, but we didn't drive too much for that we would have needed to exchange it again. I can't recommend to rent with Dollar! It was 120 USD more than expected without ANY REASON and with more trouble ever! read more

are you good with math? fuzzy logic? somehow, the mid-sized rental i booked (through travelocity) for $X, which was half the price of my usual hertz, ended up costing me 3 times that amount. O.O in fairness, i knew i was adding some cost for the pre-paid gas & insurance but, doing the math in my addled mind, the final tally was still almost $100.00 higher than i expected. i could have protested. i could have unchecked some boxes. but i'd gotten up at 4:00 a.m., so i just got into the car. stunned. service personnel were good both at the counter and out in the lot. the car was clean on the interior, but a bit dinged up outside. definitely make sure you walk around it before you drive off - but you should do that with any company. i'm a little shocked that a couple of add-ons for gas and whatnot + taxes and fees tripled the price of the rental. i'll be sticking with hertz. read more

Awful. An extra bus ride after you take the main bus to the regular car rental place (bus has a/c but really only works on driver). Service is poor. If you can help it, don't rent from here even if it saves a few bucks. read more

Worst fucking company on the planet. The horrible women at the counter refused to rent us a car we had ALREADY PAID FOR because we "didn't have everything we needed to rent it" (a second form of ID) We called ahead and asked what exactly we would need to rent a car, and a second form of id was never mentioned. The women working here don't give a shit about customer service or whether or not you're stranded. They told us to leave because we questioned them about the policy and got upset that they wouldn't rent us the car we ALREADY PAID FOR. There are plenty better car places to rent from around here, that frankly are much less of a nightmare. Do yourself a favor and rent a car from somewhere else. read more

They steal whatever you leave in the car! Very poor customer service no body calls to tell you that you left something behind. They just keep the items. He you remember you left something, you can not reach lost and found department, no one answers. I suggest you rent from another company. Dollar Rental car is not what it use to be. I wish I could give less than one star....getting in at 6am on a Wednesday I was tired. Had to find the shuttle to take us out to the rental place. The old dude at the desk was more interested in sipping his coffee than helping me out. Questioned everything on my license and insurance. Wanted to make sure I knew they'd charge my CC for any little thing. Finally after a grueling process I got out back to get a car. Not much to chose from. Got in one and all we could smell was smoke. So we changed cars bc I had just signed that no one would smoke in the car, got in the next one and the seatbelt was broken. Got in the last one and left. Got scanned and told once again that this car had a chip in it and they could track me, bc at 6am with my child I cared so much, got on my way and before I was out of their property the car began rattling like something was falling off. It is a pile of crap. Husband got in later and we went back to add him and listened to another lady telling the manager about her lemon of a car and they basically told her it was her fault and she would be charged. We were flabbergasted since I'd had a car for 4 hours and all it did was sit in the hotel lot and it already sounded like it was dying. I'm sure we will all be charged. Next time I'll just use Enterprise and spend the extra few bucks instead of the package deal with my flight. Rude people, crappy cars. Don't use them!!! read more

They clearly state when picking up the vehicle that you cannot drop it off before noon or there will be an early drop off fee. They also state that if you drop it off the following day there will be a late fee. I was charged a $20 late fee for returning the vehicle after noon on the day it was due back. So you're charging for an early drop off before noon and a late fee after noon? That would mean I have to return the vehicle at noon on the dot in order to not be charged. Seems like a shady money making scheme to me. Called to complain and was told that they do not have to disclose this to you in person. That's funny because the paperwork doesnt mention anything either. Please avoid. Use a reputable company with clearly stated charges. Shame on you Dollar Rental! read more

This is a nightmare service. Rented a car in Maui and it broke down our last evening there. Missed out on dinner, a photo shoot, and got to hassle with them for 4 and 1/2 hours until they got me another car. Then flew to Oahu and it took 1 and 1/2 hours to finally get me a car. Others in line behind us got their cars before us. When they finally gave us our car after we complained, the air conditioning did not work. They did refund us $50 for each of the incidents, but that hardly compensates for the lost time and aggravation. Stay away from this company! read more

Like everyone else that has written a review the issues that they were having I was having except it went beyond the Dollar rental center for the cleveland airport. The man who rented it tried to coerce me into getting insurance he said " If you were to get a nail in your tire you will have to replace the whole tire regardless of how new it is not repair it". I called the Dollar complaint dept and they were no better. The car's front panel was dislodged when I showed it to the inspector he just kicked it into place........really? These people are a ripoff. I rented a car for a vacation, but because of hurricane Florence, had to cancel. They charged me $50.00 to cancel. I thought I would give them another chance. To rent a car in Cleveland and drop off in Canton, Ohio. The charge for 24 hours was $231.14 because of a dropoff fee. I think UBER would have been cheaper. So this is the last time I deal with Dollar. read more

I am giving Dollar Rent A Car such a low rating due to the fact they cannot return prescription sun glasses which were left in a Kia Soul on July 31, 2018. The service picking the car up was great and returning was great and now I cannot get anyone to help retrieve the sunglasses. They are for medical use for my husband and cannot get anyone in customer service to speak with us. This has been a disgrace and will NEVER use them again. read more

Never use this company!!! Booked online for the pay now option on their website ($137) so you figure that this will go towards your payment... wrong! It's on their website but through a third party vendor. When you pick up the car is when they really hammer your credit card. Told her we were going on a trip and she encouraged us to add a second driver for safety reasons. She just said she needed a drivers license and that they would be good to go. 100% did not mention that it was going to cost an additional $41.... maybe they work on commission? Printed us out 3 different receipts... all with different totals. When we returned the car, the total fees (not including the $137 booking charge) was over $250. That brought the total for a two and a half day trip to about $400. This was nearly 3x the booking rate!!! What a rip off this company was. I will never use them again and will pass along a horrible review to anyone looking into renting a car. In addition to the horrible experience, their customer service was awful too. The lady I spoke to just kept apologizing but never offered any guidance. She said it was just a miscommunication that the additional driver fee was not told to us. Nothing was resolved and the conversation or lack there of, was a complete waste of time. read more

I would recommend that you find a relative of the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run to drive you around Cleveland before I'd ever recommend this business to anyone. I reserved a car online for my wife via a third party (Hotwire) and the older gentleman working this morning was a complete butthole (very very nice way to describe his behavior) to my wife. Started with telling her that her reservation wasn't until 1:00pm and refused to budge from that even after my wife showed him the email confirmation time of 12:30, stated that there were other people waiting for cars in front of her (there was no one else in the location) Ten minutes later he finally relented and processed her for the rental...started by demanding the credit card and running a complete charge and hold through to include insurance (even though I had already purchased insurance through the reservation site. He justified it by saying their insurance was crap, they did not accept it and on and on. Told my wife if she had a flat that she would have to purchase a new tire, have it installed, and bring back the receipt for a brand new exact match tire. He ranted and raved about how crappy their insurance was and how she absolutely had to have the $28 per day insurance they offered at dollar. He kept on until my wife was on the verge of tears (no my wife is FAR from being a typically emotional lady but she does prefer to avoid outright conflict) The process went on until she relented and agreed to the $350 hold on the account, the insurance, and after being mistreated, disrespected, and down right nasty to she walked out with the keys. She did go immediately back and cancel the car after talking to me, I'd rather pay a cab to shuttle her around than pay a business who treats their clients in such a manner. This whole processed was followed by me trying to contact customer service via phone and being shuffled around (twice to the same poor lady in roadside assistance) before I was finally put in touch with a representative who took my complaint but said there would not be any follow up with me from corporate or anyone else regarding the manner. She did offer me some vouchers (as though I would ever even dream of renting from that company ANYWHERE). and did take my complaint but no real resolution tithe issue or the treatment my wife suffered at the hands of the older gentleman and "Heather" who completed the cancellation on site but was also very rude brought it the process with my wife. read more

Rented a car in Cincinnati and returned at Cleveland Airport. Had to drive 4 hours in a blizzard and the windshield fluid didn't work. My son had to keep putting his head out the window to tell me where theroad was. In 0 degrees, in a blizzard. Most harrowing evperience ever. Then, of course, there are no gas stations at the airport, near the airport, on the way from Cleveland to the airport. None. So I got slammed with a refill charge. Went from $18 per day plus fees and taxes plus refill to $312. read more

This place sucks! It is a total nutroll to get to and from the airpot. Have to take two shuttle buses. The rental office is way off site from the airpot ad smells like a litter box for horses. The dodge avenger we rented shook so bad I thought it was going to explode. Just aweful all around. I gave it one star because I had to. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I definitely would! My mom and I flew into the airport and were expecting to rent a car from here. Upon arrival to the main terminal of car rental places, we noticed that Dollar wasn't there. Apparently, you have to take a second shuttle bus to get to this place. Our flight got in pretty late and it was about 11:30pm when we got to the car rental terminal. We then waited for about 20 minutes for this second shuttle to take us to get our car. It never came. I ended up calling Dollar to see when their shuttle was coming. The woman on the phone was the most incompetent person I have ever had the displeasure of talking to. She kept giving me vague directions and told me I had to go back to the main airport terminal. When I told her that we were literally standing in front of a sign that said "Dollar Car Rental Shuttle Service", she then got confused and told us to just wait for the bus. By this time it was round 11:55pm, and she then tells me "Oh by the way, Dollar will be closing at 11." Wait WHAT? I asked "11 what? am or pm?" She then says "11pm". Uhm....okay it is now MIDNIGHT, was she really trying to give me directions to a closed location? Yup she was. I then told her it was an hour past 11pm and she gets confused once again and says "oh I'm sorry ma'am, but it appears this location is now closed." Are you kidding me? We literally were stranded at this point and I asked her what she expected us to do? Walk to our hotel? She then tried to look up 24 hour locations. She then proceeded to ask me if I was anywhere near two different airports (NOT including Cleveland Hopkins). What? I'm sorry. I didn't realize we had teleported to a different airport. We ended up giving up on this dumb woman and rented with another company that was still open. Long story short, JUST DON'T RENT FROM THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY. read more

Watch it. At this location, Dollar is not at the main car rental remote location. To get to it, you have to take two shuttles. Naturally, they don't tell you this ahead of time. After finding it out when I rented the car, I decided to return it a day ahead of time and let the hotel take me to the airport. This was the only way I could be sure to make my flight. They charged me a $25 early return fee. That's the last time I will ever rent from Dollar! read more

Oh well Dollar Rent A Car obviously is not concerned with their rating on Yelp as there is nothing other than one and two star ratings. The only reason I give them two is the fact that their competition isn't really much better. Booking my car on a travel site with my flight probably saved me a few bucks but then it would have saved me a few bucks with any of the rental car companies. From the pushy counter person that is noticeably upset with my refusal of their insurance and other add on fees to the fact that they wanted to not give me my car because I didn't have two local numbers and it's company policy. They basically forced me to lie to them with a second local number just to rent the car. When I asked how many people really traveled with multiple cell phones, the clerk could only repeat herself that the company requires two local numbers in case they have to contact me in regards to the car. While I have had worse experiences they certainly go out of their way to make the process as troublesome as possible. read more

Where to start.... I guess at this was an overall HORRIBLE experience and we will for sure NOT BE BACK HERE EVER!! We rented a car for the first time here for our annual Myrtle Beach trip (except for this time we were getting married there!!) We made online reservations months in advance for a Ford Taurus ...or similar... we get there are there are 3 Crown Victoria cars... not exactly wedding material I would say.. and not to mention the extra money for gas we would've had to spend. We told the rude girl by the cars that this wasn't anywhere near what we wanted and after about 2 times of saying the same thing got pointed in the direction of the mid-size suvs... there was a Jeep and an Escape. Our son loves Jeeps so we decided to go with that one... While waiting for my husband to pull around with the Jeep, I see him in the Escape!! He had to take it back because the oil change light was on and the gas tank was far from full and we would have had to pay for it!! Although the Escape is a nice car... it had not been cleaned since it was back.. there were a few belongings from the people before us and stains on the seats, dusty, smelly and carpets were still dirty :/ We had no other choice but to take it since we were only 2 hours from our departure time... UGH!! My husband tried to talk to a manager when we got home, and he wouldn't even give him the time of day, just a 10% discount for a future rental which clearly won't ever happen!! DO NOT RENT WITH THEM! I booked a reservation and prepaid online and www.dollar.com. I clicked on deals in your city on their website and found a deal and went with it. I was flying in town for my grandmother's funeral and certainly did not expected to deal with all of the hassle that came with this business. When I got there, they said I needed 2 forms of photo ID in order to rent the car since I was using a debit card. I called customer service and they said my other option was to present a billing statement with my name and mailing address. I only receive electronic billing statements and asked if I could pull it up on my phone, email it to them or use their printer. The desk personnel was rude and clearly was not interested in providing customer service. He could care less if about my business and told me I had to go to Budget or another car rental company. I called customer service again and they said that I should be able to present the electronic bill. I asked to speak with a manager and he reviewed my billing statement, ran a credit check and finally got me in a car. This was after over an hour of back and forth with the guy at the counter and customer service. I would've just taken my business elsewhere but they had my money tied up. They kept saying I went through a 3rd party and in the future do not do so to get better service but I did not!!! I did not go through expedia or hotwire. I reserved on the www.dollar.com website. In addition, regardless of where I booked, customer service is customer service. Why offer deals or partner with 3rd party vendors if you are just going to turn away the business and/or give them a hard time. It makes not sense! In any event, I will never rent with them again. Trust me, pay the extra money for a more reputable company that cares about its customers. When I said I was not satisfied with my experience with Enterprise, they gave me a free 2 day rental. Dollar could care less if you walk to your destination and never come back...I tried to file a BBB.org complaint but this location nor the corporate company does not have a business listing on the site. One word: SCAM. Do not buy into ANY upgrades that they offer. They will not honor them, or else, they will use the upgrade to charge you more than what you thought you were getting into. Case in point: I was informed that if I use my AmEx card to pay, the cost of an upgrade would be discounted 50%. Not only was that not honored, but I was charged an extra day on top of that because I returned the car 4 hours past the due time. All told, they charged me ~25% more than what the rental contract said I owed. And frankly, the worst part was dealing with customer service who are challenged to listen and respond like human beings... I felt like I was talking to a wall. I travel about 50% of my time and rent cars from all different companies- I have NEVER experienced such unresponsive and poor customer service as I have dealing with Dollar. Never again... don't buy into their cheaper rates- you will most certainly be paying more than other company's more expensive rates when all is said and done. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had renting a car. Ever. Our plane was delayed two hours, putting us in Cleveland right at midnight. The attendant at Dollar Rental refused to acknowledge that I had a confirmation number and that my car rental was pre-paid. He said "I don't need that, I need a valid driver's license and a credit card". When I asked why he would need a credit card when he should have that information in the system because I already booked the rental and prepaid in advance, he said, "I need a credit card for incidentals like GPS, etc.". Again, I explained that my rental was prepaid and that any extras desired were prepaid and I again offered my confirmation number. He then asked if I wanted any insurance. I told him I purchased additional insurance when I booked the rental. He said that insurance was from the third party booker like Travelosity or Expedia and would only cover a third of the vehicle and was insufficient. I then told him that I wasn't interested in anything other than what I already paid for. He then became rude and condescending stating that it wasn't his fault that my plane was delayed and I was having a bad day, that he wasn't a robot and that if I didn't buy the insurance I would pay for any and all damage, that if I didn't buy the gas coverage that I would pay for every singe gallon the car would hold if I didn't fill it up within a ten mile radius of the car rental facility and it was going cost me. I told him we needed to be done with this and just held out my hand for the keys. All travel sites need to remove this rental car option from their site. The first sign that this was a mistake should have been when we first walked in and there were lines to the door at all the other car rental counters and there was one single person in line at the Dollar Rent A Car counter.
