I rented a car through Expedia and picked up the car at this location at the Cleveland international airport. Everything went smoothly there wasn't a line so we got processed quickly and the lady even gave me an upgrade on the car. What she failed to tell me or to explain to me was the gas situation. In the past I would always just pick up a car it would be full and then I would refill it before I turned it back in. But I guess I purchased a package for $60 where I could use the gas and not refill it. But I did refill it in the end. I called the company and they told me I would have to turn in the receipt and that I would get my money back for the refill. So I was happy about that. So in the future I would make sure that I know what I am buying. But everyone here was pretty friendly at the Cleveland International Airport. What made us laugh is we came all the way to Cleveland OHIO and we get a car with Florida plates.!

Hertz is not my usual choice for car rental. Since it was a work trip and my work uses Hertz, I had no choice. You need to take a shuttle from the airport when renting from CLE airport. Check in was horrendous. Monday evening around 7:30 pm, there was only 1 rep working the counter. Every other car rental counter had at least 2 reps at their counter. We waited over 45 mins on the line which is unacceptable and frustrating. We got a 2023 Nissan Sentra with 24K miles on it. The car wasn't cleaned from the previous renter since we found a half bottle of Diet Coke in the back seat. The only positive experience was drop off. Jose did a walk around, confirmed the charges and we were on our way. It was quick and seamless which is how it's supposed to be.

CLE Rental Car Center has really gone downhill I chose Hertz since no one else had cars for rent even with advance reservations

Being a business traveler I can never say I'll never use any particular rental car company so after my go to rental car company that I have literally rented hundreds of rentals with again failed me when traveling to Cleveland because of no cars available so I booked through Hertz and believe me the process was a little painful after showing up at the counter after booking my rental online. I immediately missed the "by-pass the counter" guys. The inability to choose my own car after I've had a chance to look at the inventory and making my own choice is really frustrating not to mention I spent 45 minutes at the counter and charged a fee of $486.36 for a beat up 37,468 mile Honda SUV which they considered an upgrade for 2 1/2 days which comes out to about $3.24 a mile plus the fuel cost. I'll definitely look for other options my next trip to Cleveland and I'm not ruling out Uber - I'm a reasonable person so it's not upsetting but it is ridiculous and has convinced me that the travel industry is totally failing. They get two stars only because they had cars...

Here I am returning the car

Fraudulently charged me $611.08 on a $184.09 rental. Charged me for a missing carseat (not true). Charged me for missing keys (not true). Charged me for tolls (I pre-paid for the EZ pass). Charged me for three extra hours of rental (I returned the car 40 minutes before the deadline). I was still in town so went into the location and have video evidence as well as audio of them CONFIRMING the keys were there, confirming the carseat was there and confirming that the car was returned online. I received confirmation that I would be refunded $427.01 in 5-7 days. That was in June. When I called back in July when I did not receive a refund they told me OHHH IT ACTUALLY TAKES 4-6 WEEKS WOW. They even sent me a $100 credit towards Hertz for my troubles...I would rather have my money back. Now no one will pick up the mgr number they gave me so I filed a complaint with Hertz corporate. THEY TOLD ME THE LOCATION NEVER EVEN FILED FOR A REFUND!!! The complaint was escalated AND they requested a refund but - get this - it's contingent upon the location approving (that's right - the same location that fraudulently charged me in the first place, has been acting in bad faith and never requested a refund in the first place). I had a sneaking suspicion that something shady would happen so I luckily have have audio recording of me going back into this location where it was confirmed BY the people working there that I WOULD receive a refund. FWIW the two women that work there (Rocky was one) were both helpful but wow. I can't believe it. I am filing a complaint with the BBB and the attorney general.

Airport pickup is easy with plenty of space to park and wait, then simply go and you're on the highway. On our return trip, we also had no issues. We were dropped off and right to security. There were some odd issues here with TSA signage so pay attention to that. Beyond security, they had a bunch of options for breakfast and coffee. We opted for a breakfast spot while we waited for our flight. It's never great to be at a place for an early flight, but at least our experience here was calm and stress free.

Located between the Greater Cleveland metropolitan suburbs of Berea and Brooklyn Heights (in the outer suburb of Brookpark) and on the grounds of the new Cleveland Browns stadium, and about 8.7 miles directly southwest of downtown Cleveland, in the designated neighborhood of Hopkins (known as Riverside until 2015). Cleveland-Hopkins covers an area of 1,717 acres in Brookpark's Hopkins neighborhood, and has three "standard" (for the US) runways, though unlike San Diego, it has no EMAS arrestor system for aircraft. Hopkins and San Diego are actually about the same geographic size. One of NASA's ten designated field research sites, the Glenn Research Center, is on airport grounds but not airport property as NASA is a federal department paid by US taxes each year. I wasn't exaggerating when I mentioned that Cleveland-Hopkins has been at the forefront of pioneering innovations. CLE was the first airport with an air traffic control tower (ATC) and a two-level/split design separating arrivals from departures. Both of which are now ubiquitous at nearly every airport in the US, and most airports around the world today. In fact, it is now mandated by FAA regulations to have some type of true air traffic control tower. Cleveland-Hopkins was also the first airport in North America to be directly connected with a rail transit line, connected directly to the red line train of the Greater Cleveland Rapid Transit Authority (GCRTA) with a built-in train station beneath the airport-proper that connects to departures through a quick escalator or elevator ride. Cleveland-Hopkins was a hub for United Airlines from the post-World War II era until the mid-1980s. After United moved out, Continental Airlines moved in, making it the dominant carrier at the airport in the 1990s and 2000s. In 2010, United and Continental merged, keeping the United name and eliminating the Continental name, resulting in Cleveland becoming a United hub again. However, in 2014, United discontinued its hub, though it still has a flight attendant base, pilot base, and maintenance facilities at the airport and is its largest carrier by passenger count. When United stopped using CLE as a hub in 2014, they closed Concourse D (a separate satellite terminal connected to the main facility via underground walkway) but United kept paying rent on the lease to the satellite. Even in 2026, United is still the largest carrier at Cleveland-Hopkins despite the prevalence of Low-Cost Carriers who found a new home at CLE; with the shutdown of Spirit Airlines, United closed the metaphorical door on Low-Cost Carriers expanding or coming into Cleveland-Hopkins. Most LCCs have, for the most part, aside from Allegiant Air, Sun Country (until their merger with Allegiant is finalized though Allegiant likely is not moving out), and Southwest Airlines, pulled out of Cleveland-Hopkins to center their operations further south at Akron-Canton Regional Airport, which is more affordable for Low-Cost Carriers per gate rental. Some context for the "Hopkins" moniker; CLE airport was named after its founder, former city manager William R. Hopkins, which the city dedicated to him on Hopkins' 82nd birthday in 1951, 26 years after the airport itself was founded by Hopkins; Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport (CLE) turns 101 years old this month. Decent, but looking forward to the improvements.

Never received it so I went up to the Dollar desk ... there was a young lady sitting there looking at her cell phone... I said hello and I stood there for a few minutes before she looked up at me with a confused look. I explained to her that I never received the text telling me which car I should take... I showed her my confirmation number.. she said their system had been down for the last hour and she was having trouble looking up which car was assigned to me. A man came over to the desk and he called someone asking about how they could figure out which cars went to who since the system was down... the girl was manually writing up the paperwork for me... they then figured out I was the one who did the manager's special.
