Rented a compact SUV from Alamo. The CS agent at the desk was wonderful (I forgot his name)…read more Picking up the car @ the counter was fuss-free as I already had a prepaid reservation. Be aware that this place (along w/ all the other rental car companies) is not a 24-hour operation. I had to drop off the car at 3:30am and I prefer to drop off cars with somebody there that way there are no issues later on. Luckily, I didn't encounter any issues, but I just wished they had somebody on staff to accept the keys rather than just a drop-off box. Nonetheless, the drop off was easy and I caught the airport shuttle in front of the rental place without any hassles. Yes, even if you drop off a car at the wee hours of the morning, there is still an airport shuttle that makes the rounds at that hour. There is also a security guard inside the rental place area so you won't be by yourself waiting for a bus to arrive as the guard is nearby. I would advise just checking w/ the shuttle bus upon your arrival at the airport to get an idea of about how often somebody shows up....but they do show up! I'm guessing they probably show up around every 15 minutes or so during the 12 am - 4 am times. My only gripe is I wished somebody would've pointed out how the hell to start the car before I got in and drove it off! You see, my regular car is a 2003 and the engine starts by actually putting a key into the ignition. I had no idea what the hell was going on when I was approaching the exit gate of the car rental service and saw there was no key anywhere near the steering wheel, the shifter area, etc.. When I initially got into the car, an employee had gotten in and started it up as I was approaching it, so I had no idea this type of car has no key and you press buttons to start it up. I guess I am now officially my parents. The guy at the exit gate helped me out and explained how to lock, open, and start the car w/ the new "keychain" thing. I'm forever grateful to this guy! Anyway, I would suggest to Alamo, going forward, to ask customers if they are familiar with these new vehicles just to make sure. Otherwise, great service w/ Alamo at CLE airport and if I have to return to CLE again, I'd definitely choose Alamo.

To make this clear, I was not given the incorrect information from the Cleveland location, but it affected my experience due to it. The staff at the Cleveland Alamo location were very friendly and understanding of my situation, and were sure to find me a manager to speak with. The manager I spoke with, Jonathan, was very professional and kind. He also had great customer service and made my poor experience better and because of Jonathan I will continue to rent with Alamo when visiting Cleveland. Thank you Jonathan!

As we neared the ground, we nosed up and accelerated and gained speed and altitude fairly quickly. No one ever spoke about it from the cockpit or the flight attendants. I remarked to the caption on my way out that it seemed like we had a little do over. He never looked at me, as he was typing on his phone, but he did acknowledge me as he said, "yeah, it kinda felt that way didn't it!" First of all, congrats to Hertz for a) having a vehicle available and b) having someone available…read moreat the location to process a rental! This alone results in the addition of one whole star which is pretty significant for this location. On the other hand, the car I received was a Camry with over 50,000 miles on it (and the stains and scratches to prove it.) It also didn't appear to have been cleaned, as there was still a candy wrapper in the ash tray. The Hertz representative was helpful enough but mentioned that this was the only car that was available, and explained that the tank was at about a quarter tank so to just bring it back with that amount. (One of my pet peeves.) I didn't check the contract until after the fact, but the contract showed that it had been rented with a full tank. (Great way to escalate a pet peeve.) Since I was going to be doing a fair amount of driving, I called 800-CAR-GOLD and asked about the possibility of swapping out for a slightly better vehicle at the airport. I was told to go ahead and swap out the car, so off to the airport Hertz I went. The return agent at the aiport was pretty impressed by the condition of the car, asking which location I picked it up from and even commenting that it should have already been sent out for auction. While the rep inside the booth ultimately allowed me to swap out the car, she clearly pointed out that the airport doesn't normally allow vehicles to be exchanged without a mechanical issue and that she was making a special exception. While I was given a much nicer and cleaner vehicle, it seems like this should be the norm rather than the exception. Repeated experiences with high mileage and dirty vehicles, less than full tanks, inaccurate fuel levels on the contract, and the distinct sense that someone feels like they're doing you a favor in a service recovery situation are why I won't have enough rentals with Hertz to re-qualify for President's Circle this year. On the other hand, the reservation was actually able to be honored (unlike my last attempt) so I have to say that warrants a better overall rental than one where I had to scramble to make alternate arrangements.

Once I left I noticed the vehicle in fact was not cleaned properly and there was no windshield wiper fluid in the vehicle either. I had a trip I needed to be on the road for once I realized no windshield wiper fluid and I as advised by customer service rep to take to a take five location. The line was pretty long so I waited almost two hours for them to complete a top off. FRUSTRATED to say the least! When I returned the vehicle there was nobody in the office and a sign that said they would be returning shortly. I waited 30 minutes to hand over a key to someone after a long day. What a joke. Called customer service several times to explain everything and I kept getting transferred. This place is definitely going downhill and I won't be returning. Horrible horrible experience.

I passed my ID and credit card. The agent said I needed a second form of ID because I was from out of town. How does that make sense? Who is usually renting vehicles? People from out of town. I told him I should have been informed before I came to pick up the vehicle. He told me they don't share their memos with customers. No, but you should share pertinent information. Instead of his calling someone, he was quite nonchalant, even taking personal calls. He gave me a number to what he claimed was Enterprise. The person on the other end claimed to not understand yet never gave the phone to a supervisor as we repeatedly requested. Meanwhile, I noticed the agent still had my credit card and had his phone aimed toward it. I honestly think they are running a scam. I am watching my credit card purchases more closely. The agent did not I finally turned on my brain and walked across to the Enterprise and got a 7-passenger vehicle with no problems. I would not rent from here and they owe me for the wasted time. DO NOT -- I REPEAT, DO NOT -- RENT FROM THE BUDGET/AVIS LOCATION ON LEE ROAD IN SHAKER HEIGHTS…read more This was hands down the worst rental experience I've ever had -- and I've rented cars all over the country. This location is a filthy, disorganized, and unprofessional disgrace to the Budget brand and should be investigated, if not outright shut down. The office smelled like a mixture of Black & Mild cigars and stale air, and the carpet and interior were coated in dust and grime. I had prepaid for my rental and was given a car that was completely saturated with the stench of cigarette smoke -- so strong that both my clothes and my daughter's clothes smelled after just one ride. These are supposed to be non-smoking vehicles, but clearly, this location doesn't enforce that policy. I called immediately to report the issue and was told to return the next day for an exchange. When I arrived, I was met by Presha, who claimed to be the manager. She told me she only had two cars available and that they were being held until 5 p.m. for other renters. If they didn't show up, I could maybe get one. If they did, I would have to drive myself to the airport to exchange the car. She refused to offer a refund, a gas credit, or any kind of apology or compensation for the inconvenience and health hazard. I asked if she could at least call the airport location to explain the situation ahead of time so I wouldn't have to wait in line and re-explain everything. Her response? That Budget employees aren't allowed to call other locations directly. That sounded suspicious , and I was right. When I finally got to the Cleveland Hopkins Airport Budget counter, I was helped by a professional and apologetic manager who immediately confirmed that Presha was not telling the truth. She explained that if Presha was truly a manager, she absolutely had the capability and authority to call another manager at a different location to assist with a customer issue. So either Presha lied outright or she is woefully unqualified for her position. Either way, it's unacceptable. To make matters worse, I am immunocompromised, so being forced to use a car that reeked of smoke is more than an inconvenience -- it's a serious health risk. Budget's complete lack of concern or accountability is outrageous. Thankfully, the airport team was everything the Shaker Heights team was not: professional, kind, and capable. But the damage was done. I will be filing a formal complaint with corporate and encouraging everyone I know to steer far away from this location. This Budget office on Lee Road in Shaker Heights is a joke -- dirty, dishonest, and completely unfit to be serving the public. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, OR ENERGY HERE. DO NOT TRUST THIS LOCATION. AND DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD PRESHA TELLS YOU. This experience has soured me completely. I will never rent from Budget or Avis again.
