I rented my car through AAA... I did the pre check in and was supposed to receive a text where my car would be located. Never received it so I went up to the Dollar desk ... there was a young lady sitting there looking at her cell phone... I said hello and I stood there for a few minutes before she looked up at me with a confused look. I explained to her that I never received the text telling me which car I should take... I showed her my confirmation number.. she said their system had been down for the last hour and she was having trouble looking up which car was assigned to me. A man came over to the desk and he called someone asking about how they could figure out which cars went to who since the system was down... the girl was manually writing up the paperwork for me... they then figured out I was the one who did the manager's special. Which said online that it would be revealed when I picked up the car. They gave me a Kia EV. I've never driven anEV before so I asked the about when I return it did it need charged to a certain charge... he said bring it back with at least 80% charge... after I started heading to my parents who live in North Canton, I had gone about 20 miles and was alerted I needed to charge the vehicle... THEY GAVE ME AN EV THAT ONLY HAD 8% CHARGE LEFT... I HAD TO QUICKLY FIND A PLACE TO CHARGE IT SO I COULD MAKE IT TO MY PARENTS. I couldn't find a super charge station and the only one I found had a 4 hour limit which I didn't have time for and because the battery was so low it said it would take 11 hours to charge to full capacity. My parents who are almost 80 met me in Fairlawn and we went to dinner while the car charge enough to get me to there house. I will most likely use a different rental car place next time rather than Dollar. read more

Not too sure what the older reviews from 2019 and 2020 are on about. But Dollar Rent a Car is pretty efficient and convenient, far as car rentals go. I've dealt with some pretty awful car rental places in recent years. So, I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about here. So, what makes a car rental business decent, you ask? Well, in my humble opinion, it comes down to just one word: convenience. Renting a car shouldn't be like pulling teeth. You should be able to book a reservation in advance, receive that reservation upon arrival with a mere license and credit card verification, perform your exterior damage inspection or whatever, and be on your merry way. And that's exactly what Dollar does. Nothing about this transaction was difficult for me. In fact, I was immensely impressed by how quickly they got me a car; less than 20 minutes. The lines weren't even long. As for the car itself, it was fine. The turn-in process was a little strange, due to their normal lane being closed that day (it was a Saturday). But I place the blame solely on the car rental lot itself over Dollar. After getting redirected to the actual turn in lane, all I had to do was leave the keys in the car, grab all my stuff, and roll out. It was that simple. I wish all car rentals went this smoothly. But, man...I could tell you some horror stories! Only minor complaint I have is that Dollar's mobile app still sucks. So, I can't really rank them as "top notch" just yet. Worst service ever. I arrived at the Center late at night in winter. There were no Dollar agents present. Everything was online. My economy car was not available but I could upgrade for a substantial fee. Because I was cold and tired I did. I then was texted the parking spot number of my car, 126, which was nowhere near the the other line of Dollar Cars 106 to 112. It was in another part of the lot, which I couldn't find until I found an agent in the Hertz desk to direct me. I spent close to an hour searching for that car. Could they at least have texted me a map of where that car was? read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. I went to pick up my car and asked to add my husband as a driver. I've never been charged for adding my spouse as a driver and I wasn't told there would be a 92.00 charge. He highlighted the estimated payment and acted like that was the total price. He stapled the actual charge behind the highlighted estimate. When you sign the agreement, it's a little text box, so you can't see what you're signing. I asked what I was signing and was told it was verification of our driver's license. You can't call customer service, and after sending in an inquiry and getting a response saying I signed and I owed, the money. Then they blocked my additional emails. By the way if you're a Dollar member, you don't pay for your spouse. He doesn't mention that either. It's not the 92.00 it's the fact they tricked me and deliberately hid the additional fee. You can't call and speak to anyone...no customer service and they won't respond to me. Worst rental car company ever!!! Terrible experience. Made a reservation and declined insurance. She asked what type of insurance, and she said I had to choose, standard, basic, gold or platinum, which I said whatever was included in our reservation, she proceeded to charge me for standard, which we had already declined. I was a little skeptical when my husband reserved a car with dollar Rent-A-Car. We are traveling from Cleveland to Chicago and it was the only rental place that wipuld allow us to drop the car at a new location. The customer service at the Cleveland location was impeccable. Ty Was friendly and made sure we were in a car to our liking. Upon driving the first vehicle we felt the alignment was off. Call customer service and exchange the car with no issues at all. Front desk was very friendly, however finding the area of the lot the car I rented was in was very confusing. I had to ask 2 different people that just pointed in the direction to go. I was standing next to my car and had no idea while it was snowing and no help. Rented a car from SC to OH for one day and was charged $129.06 for a one day rental. Made sure to ask every question under the sun since this was my first car rental ever. Everything went great, got the car dropped off at Cleveland Hopkins rental car location and carried on with my week. Discovered my credit card was additionally charged another $129.04 and $173.39. Total amount for my rental charged on my card was $431.39. Called many times for their customer service and they kept saying they'd send me a receipt within 24-48 hours. I was never sent an itemized receipt. No one could simply explain these additional charges. I made sure to fill the gas tank all the way, car was in my ownership for less than 14 hours since I drove all night to OH, I dropped the car off an hour before drop off, and it was clean and undamaged. DO NOT suggest renting a car from this location. They will over charge your card without explaining why. I had to file a dispute with my credit card and I'm still waiting for answers. read more

I flew into Cleveland for business and needed a rental car, so I decided to give Dollar Rent a Car a chance. I was very impressed with the ease at which I was able to grab a shuttle and take me to the Dollar Rent a Car parking lot. It only took 20 minutes from the time that I got on to the shuttle until I was driving out of the parking lot! The best part was that I was given a complementary upgrade from economy to compact, since all the economy cars were already rented. read more

Do not rent a car from Dollar Rent a Car unless you want to get ripped off!!! We rented a SUV and when we arrived in Cleveland to pick up the SUV they said we needed a larger SUV. It was late and and we basically had no choice but to take the SUV they gave to us. Dollar changed my Dad over $65 additional a day just for an upgraded SUV to the original reservation. This was the worst experience I ever had with a rental car company in the many years that we have been traveling. We tried to call their customer service and they were no help at all. Beware, they also charge an additional $13 a day just to add an additional driver which is normally no charge with any other rental car company. Easy shuttle to rental counter and the wait wasn't too bad. Service staff was nice and process was easy. However, the attendant asked me "basic or premium coverage?" I didn't realize I had an option that of none. When I returned the car there was a charge of $60 for 2 days of coverage vs the only $20 to rent the car for one day. They took one day of insurance off as I only had one day. Live and learn moment. Good experience except for trying to charge you more in the details. read more

I ordered a midsized SUV through travelocity and was quoted $180 something for the week. When I got to the airport (redeye overnight from LAX) there were signs where to go, followed the signs to the shuttle, didn't have to wait too long 5-10 mins, no problem. The man driving the shuttle grabbed my suitcase on and off. Super thumbs up! I love that when I travel without my significant other that men have chivalrous manners...now to dollar. Unfortunately I did not catch her name but what a pleasure she was too work with. I'm sure if I look at my receipt I could find it. Worst Customer Service Rep, PATRICK (night of 11/22/16) I have ever encountered. Rude beyond belief. 10 pm at night, I traveled over 10 hours--waiting in line, only two CSRs--He was yakking with a customer who happened to be a friend (someone who worked there previously as she knew everyone there) for A LONG time while the other CSR helped others methodically & timely. As the line got longer I said something and he started YELLING at me "Did you say something?" and WOULD NOT LET IT GO. He made quite a scene, and when I asked for his name, he said "I'll get your name too." A clear THREAT. Rented a car from here as part of a bday gift for my mother flying home to OH. Rented online but was unable to pay up front. Called customer service number on website day I booked it to see what I could do to make sure she didn't get stuck with the bill. I was told that all I had to do was call when she returned it and pay over the phone. On rental car pick up day spoke with service rep on site in OH and was told the exact same thing. This is not a problem and to call they would take payment over the phone upon return of the car. Return day....told by rep present at site they do not have any way to make a payment over the phone and have to have the card to swipe. Reviewed what previous 2 people said, one of which was on her site, and her excuse was there was a lot of new people and I was told wrong. She advised me to call customer service and to give my mom money!!! What a great 70th bday gift for my mom to be stuck with a $300 bill and nothing done about it. Customer service is AWEFUL and anyone who knows anything about customer service is that you work with the customer and don't tell them they are wrong!!
