Have used Dollar a couple of times when visiting NH, although I book from the UK through a third-party website before arriving, so that pretty much all the details of the hire are agreed beforehand. Make sure you have these in writing as they do sometimes try to foist extras on you that you won't have pre-paid. This time I didn't get pressured to pay for an upgrade (which surprised me), but instead of the Ford Focus ("or similar") that we had booked, they gave us a Ford Fiesta. Although that's still technically a 'Compact', it's a smaller compact than a Focus. But that's a minor niggle, last year we ended up with a free double upgrade to a Jeep! Pick up was pretty smooth and they have most of it down to electronic displays these days so the paperwork is practically non-existent. I like hiring from here as it's easy to get in and out of this smaller airport, and all the car hire desks are located in the same area and easy to find. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. We flew in to Denver Airport on Oct 8 with a confirmed car rental reservation. We arrived at 11:30pm and after waiting an hour for the shuttle were informed they had no cars for anyone's reservations and weren't able to even provide our refund. It left a lot of customers stranded at midnight. We had no choice but to walk down a highway with our luggage at midnight to a different car rental place which was able accommodate us. Had Dollar rental even emailed us earlier in the day we could have arranged alternate transportation not stranding ourselves at midnight at the start of our vacation. Had some issues with a rental. no assistance at the desk not response to the multiple emails I sent after my car return.

A quick phonemail from the terminal had the shuttle bus on the way to pick us up (if you land at terminal 2, exit the building, do not cross the road to the car park where the letters B and C are, but turn right and follow the building around - eventually )50 meters) there are some signs saying there are bus stops). A short ride and you are at the off-site rental place - where pick up was straightforward and we got a few upgrade to a BMW 7 hybrid. Nice car - nicer that they didn't ply any pressure tactics to add insurance levels or reduce deductibles. That bit was great - other places give you such a hard sell, and you really should already be walking in to these places knowing what level of risk you are comfortable with. Car was great - and they called the morning of the rental return due date seeing if things were OK and on track to drop off or if I needed anything. Perfect. Drop off was simply a matter of them checking over the car, printing out the final statement and taking us back to the airport, which takes about 7-10 minutes depending on the traffic. Overall everyone was courteous and professional. Great place to use when we go back. read more

Try calling Dollar to get a simple question answered, Good luck with that. I tried getting in touch with someone, anyone at Dollar to ask a simple question. "Does Dollar offer a military or Senior discount". 15 minutes later, ten buttons pressed, waiting ten minutes for no one to pick up the phone I never got to ask my question. I Thought this would be a safe rental car place too rent from! We recently took a vacation too the south too visit family and have a relaxing time. On the way back we were traveling back north an got a flat tire! We called the dollar rental roadside assistance multiple times stuck on the highway for 3 hours! They were no help kept us on hold a few times then lost the call! Apparently they were supposed to send someone out too change the tire, but we received a call 2 an a half hours later an they said no one was available too come change the tire an wanted us too pay for triple AAA an tow the van rental too the nearest airport an charge us for that! Plus a taxi an remind you we had a total of 6 people, so that would mean we would have had too rent a total of two taxis!! So I decided too call Roadside assistance on the highway, they were very respectful on the phone an friendly customer service! The roadside assistance showed up within 30 minutes and was a god sent from above! The guy from the roadside assistance changed the tire within in 15 minutes! Now here is the worse part he showed us the flat tire, we did not run over a nail or glass none of that! He showed us the flat tire was worn so badly from the inside of the tire an we were lucky too be alive! Remind you I had my 4 year old son in his car seat. And he inspected the other back rear tire an said drive as safely as you can home because the drivers passenger rear side tire was basically in the same shape! He advised us an told us very respectfully, that the rental company did not do an inspection on the tires! We could have all been seriously injured or possibly even dead. Because eventually the tire would have blown out driving 65 mph on a highway that would have been a really bad tragic ending! What rental company an there right mind does not inspect everything in the vehicles they rent before they give them too customers! Bad customer service and they should be seriously over looked by the better business bureau! Now we are cautiously droving on a donut at 40 mph and I pray to god the other tire makes it! I will be posting on every site possible an making as many complaints as I possibly can including taking pictures of how bad the tire was worn out from the inside staples coming out all around the inside of the tire! What ever happend too safety first? And when you rent a car they should have 24/7 roadside assistance! I will also be in contact with corporate and find other people have your business over looked!!worst experience of my life and suffered a panic attack! P.s remember they wanted us too call a tow company too the nearest airport and have the passengers take 2 taxis with all of our luggage, pay for all of that which would have cost approximately 500 dollars! WARNING! THERE IS A CON GAME BEING PLAYED HERE. We were never told about paying for the EZ pass when we rent the car, so the 7.90 in tolls charges went to a collection agency for American Traffic Solutions, which has now, gone up to over $90. the manager at Dollar refused to talk to us or take any responsibility. read more

Check in clerk was extremely rude. She kept pushing additional things on us, rudely. We kept declining and making it very clear we didn't want anything,she kept pushing additional things, upgrades we didn't want all in a very aggressive & discourteous manner. Finally I told her that she was being rude and we just wanted our car. She then accused us of being rude, called for the manager because she "couldn't deal with our rudeness". Mind you, we never raised our voices, all we did was not buy her extra unnecessary things & ask to be treated like human beings. Finally we left & got a car at Budget with no problems, no attitude. My husband speaks with an accent and I suspect that the clerk may be racist because of the way she talked to us, which was different than how she talked with the white customer before us. There were additional fees, like a $13 dollar fee for a spouse driving the car which no other rental company I've ever dealt with has. Never using Dollar again. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM DOLLAR! We signed up on-line, Rentalcars.com and thought we were getting a good deal. NOT! They are off-site from the rest of the rental car agencies and you have to call them to come and get you. We were then taken to their office to pick up the car (which we was fine) only to find out they had lied when they told us we could drop the car off at Holyhead ferry terminal. We were informed they do not have a drop-off there, had to return the car back to Manchester AND we had to call the main office to get a refund. We ended up renting from Hertz, quick, easy, good rates, a Mercedes Benz and with a drop off at Holyhead ferry terminal! When we did call to get a refund from Dollar we were told it was too late to get a refund, even though they had flat out lied to us!!! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! They are dishonest and not at all customer friendly! :-( read more

Dollar car rental has not lived up to its name. They get you by having you sign for added services....that are optional. It they do not tell you that. Once you have signed there is no reversing the charges just came back from Texas to find we had insurance and toll transponder we did not ask for. Watch carefully or better yet....go to another company. read more

Complete sham and bait and switch. Fees are not disclosed - what is agreed upon at the counter is not what happens upon return. Staff member actually told me "NOT MY PROBLEM" when I was addressing issues. Customer service has a padded reply to all complaints because they must get hundreds a day. I feel that giving one star is generous. When I returned the car, they said we drove several hundred miles more than we actually did. We were charged $112 extra because the employee didn't enter the correct mileage when we picked up the car. They were unwilling to work with me because I had no proof that I didn't drive the car further. read more

Beware when renting a vehicle with a toll transponder. Dollar states that the charges are explained in the contract (I guess I should have spent that extra one and a half hours reading before signing) I went through 3 tolls in NH which amount to $3.00. www.dollarrental fine.com sends me a bill 3 weeks later for $48.00 stating that each toll carries a $15.00 administration charge. What a bunch of BS. I lived in NH for years and there is no administration charge for managing this money. You have to deposit money in your transponder account and if you run out and use the EZ Pass lane the lane camera (State) will take a photo of your plate and send you a fine. Dollar should ask clients if they want a transponder up front and also be up front with charges related to transponder use. I have no problem paying for tolls that I cross but find their recovery process EXTREMELY UNETHICAL. I WILL NEVER RENT ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM DOLLAR OR ITS PARENT COMPANIES AS LONG AS I LIVE. I made advance reservations to rent a mid-size car from Dollar Rent a Car for Saturday June 20 at 2:30 pm. When I approached the rental counter Tasha asked for my credit card and license and swiped them. She then told me to take a seat for a few minutes, that my car was being cleaned. As my wife and I were waiting (so far 40 minutes) we saw 2 irate customers approach the rental counter demanding a refund. I approached the counter and asked the other 2 customers what was going on. They said they were told their car was being cleaned, and they were waiting 1 1/2 hours and still did not have a car. They were both going to get their car rentals from Budget car rental ( cars available immediately) Tasha from dollar told them she could not issue a refund since their cards were scanned. Both irate customers said they would dispute it with their credit card company. My wife and I waited 1 hour and 10 minutes before I got my car, we did not want more hassles disputing credit card charges.. I always rented my cars from Dollar Rent A car, but that it, never again. SHAME ON YOU DOLLAR FOR TAKING CUSTOMERS MONEY WITHOUT HAVING CAR AVAILABLE. MikeT. read more
