Dollar's game seems to be to underbid the competition when quoting rates online, but then load you up with extra fees when you check in. I obtained a very good confirmed rate through Orbitz, with insurance prepaid through Allianz, before traveling to Memphis for a funeral. But when I checked in the guy at the counter sneaked in an additional $100 for some other "insurance" that I didn't ask for. Jerks. Dollar will never get my business again, anywhere. read more

This company is a complete rip-off. They will nickel-and-dime you for everything they can think of to include still charging for a tank of gas even though you bring back the tank completely full. Beware and go to a different car rental agency. read more

The people at the counter in the Memphis airport location were not friendly or helpful. The car we reserved was not available and they begrudgingly gave us a larger car. The car was nice except for a tire that kept going flat. When we turned in the car the employee did not greet us and did not ask us if the car was ok. In fact did not say one word to us as he was on his phone. We would not rent from them again. read more

They charged me a $16 dollar "late" fee even though I was in the 24 hour period because I got stuck in traffic. When I complained on-line I was told it was because they were "busy" even though I was the only person dropping off a car. Nice enough people at the counter but a nickle-and-dining company. read more

The service here was amazing. I called from the airport at 11:00pm when I arrived and the van was there to pick me up. When I got to the rental desk, the car was already waiting for me. The rental agent was very kind and helpful. Kudos to them for being so nice. Car was nice too!!! read more

A plus sign for not being far from the airport. We only had one car on hold and surprisingly they let us get another without ordering it in advance. There was trouble starting up the push to start Altima, the car was very clean and smelled fresh but we could not figure out the key. We were out checking out the downtown area and called Dollar for assistance with shutting down the car and they told us they could come down and tow the car and charge us of the key was damaged. I don't think they were very accommodating or helpful. It was easier to return the car than it was to pick up the car. read more

Super shady people!!! I accidentally left my jacket in the back seat of the vehicle, filed a lost and found complaint and of course "it can't be found". It's because they are dishonest and I am sure sold it by now. I am disgusted by this company and the lack of care they give their customers!!! Memphis is famous for lousy customer service but Dollar Rental at the airport tops them all. I rented a car online for same-day pickup when I got notified by my company that I had to head to Memphis last minute. I got to Memphis tired and stressed thinking all I wanted to do was pick up my rental, head to the hotel and catch a few hours sleep before an early am meeting. That was not to be. I got to the dollar counter and they very rudely informed me that they didn't have any cars for same day reservations - the only cars they had were being held for people who had made reservations earlier. The fact that I had a valid reservation made by my company travel agency was of no matter, the fact that that it was made the same day seemed to be the deciding factor. Further, there was nothing she was willing to do to help. She wouldn't upgrade nor downgrade me to a different car, her only statement was, with a shrug of her shoulders and an annoyed look on her face, was "go find a car with somebody else". I called the 800 number and they were just as unhelpful, telling me to comeback in the morning st 5 am to get a car, oh, and since the rate originally quoted me online was a special rate that would be no longer available the next day and my rate for a rental of one day less would be 30 dollars more! Why? Because I was changing my reservation! I learned later that there were several options they could have offered, including offering me a car through their partner program with Hertz, but that's at their discretion and I guess I didn't meet the criteria to receive that offer. I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my life and will never rent another car from Dollar. read more

Spend the extra money upfront and go somewhere else that will have better service and honesty- you will end up paying double anyway! I rented the car for less than 24 hours just to spend the night with my son about 30 miles away and return back to Chicago first thing in the morning. The estimated charges upon reserving the vehicle were only $52.38 but I was actually charged $112.69- MORE THAN DOUBLE!!! When I arrived I received the right car, that was the only thing that was right about the entire experience. I chit-chatted with the associate and explained why I was there and even told him I didn't need the car to go that far but figured it would be cheaper than a cab. Since he knew I had a very early morning flight he asked me if I would be interested in having them fill the car up when I returned, I knew from experience of renting cars i knew the gas would be higher but was going for convenience. He said they would "estimate my charges" for a full tank but would only charge me for the gas I used upon returning, again that sounded right from prior experience of renting cars. I must mention that while at the rental counter I went about my trip, returned the car and came home. That's when I checked my CC statement and say I was charged DOUBLE what I was estimated. They had charged me for a full tank of gas when I barely used a quarter tank, and when I called they explained that I signed for that in the contract and should have read it. It didn't matter what the associate told me because it was in the contract that I know barely ANYONE has the time to thoroughly read over. I thought that this was a reputable company whose employees would be telling me the correct policies and procedures, not that I would have to read over the contract to make sure I wasn't being flat-out lied to. Their customer service was horrible. I work in customer service myself and would never have talked to someone they way they talked to me. When I called to explain what happened they were very rude and would only repeat to me that it was "in the contract". No apology for how I was completely misinformed by their associate at the airport. Just a repetitive answer. Needless to say I will never rent from them again and would never recommend them to anyone. I'd rather spend the extra upfront(which ends up being less in the long run)and go for a honest company who cares about their customers. read more

If I could give this rental agency zero stars, I would. At the counter, the gentleman was far more concerned about his iPhone he *thought* he was hiding behind the counter. He was slow and rude. The women at the actual kiosk in the garage were even worse. I was issued a 3 year old car that smelled like smoke. So much for the non-smoking policy. Apparently you DO get what you pay for. I will never use this company again! Pay extra to use a reputable company like Enterprise, please. This company makes their money from scamming their customers. I rented a car that was filthy from front to back...greasy, sticky, even looked like vomit in the back. Then, the garage was so dark, I didn't see a tiny crack in the black part at the top of the windshield. There's no telling how many people paid for the windshield before and after me.
