Other companies like Uhaul have a guarantee where they pay you $50 for failure to make the reservation instead. So now I have to deal with the cancelation fee on top of scrambling to find another place to rent from. From Budget's confirmation email: "A reservation is not a contract. Reservation only guarantees the rate quoted and shows a customer's preferences for a pickup location, dropoff location, time of rental, date of rental and equipment type." Don't know how they stay in business. At least they forgot to charge me for gas last time.

It may not be quite run like a professional chain of car rentals, but you will receive personalized care and a much more reasonable price. We rented two 15-passenger vans for Mexico (flew into San Diego airport) for a week and all went well! At first, I was hesitant because the price was almost half of what was quoted by EZ rent-a-van and it was hard to believe. I phoned Ryan and Carlos several times to get confirmation and ask questions. Though they are closed on weekends (family time), they get the vans ready ahead of time for rental and are available by phone. The drive was 10 minutes and the vans were ready to go on a Sunday. I paid Friday by phone/credit card on Friday, signed electronically and received the rental agreement. Ryan made sure that everything was good for us. Even, when last minute someone returned one of the vans we were going to use, damaged -- he got a replacement ready quickly. The vans themselves were fine - actually a relief that they weren't new - so we felt comfortable travelling in them. One did have a light come on that lasted, but it wasn't serious. We fit 15 persons and put luggage in a truck. Otherwise, it's ideal to have 11 passengers and then room for luggage in the last bench. We drove 3 hours from the border into the hills past Ensenada and that was fine with the Company. After our trip, we dropped the vans off on a Sunday and put the keys in the box. That was it! We will definitely be using Sun Diego Car Rental again and are grateful that the two vans fit right into our non-profit budget!
