He walked me around the car while he took photos and gave a me a heads up the gas was only filled 3/4 of the way, so to do the same when I returned the vehicle. Not sure I understand the bad reviews here. We walked in and were the second customer in line. They gave us the relatively new Honda Civic right in front of the door. The hertz guy was perfectly friendly and helpful. They need to cut down on the air freshener in the office (and in the cars) but I have no complaints. I had a reservation for a car and when I got there, they had no rental car to give me. The guys behind the counter, one of them was named Hector, gave attitude that it's not their issue that they have no vehicles and only gave me a number to call about it. They refused to call around to other local Hertz locations and help me find a vehicle. They had one vehicle there and said it's for a reservation, which is unacceptable since I had a reservation since September and was first in line when they opened. Plus, I'm a Gold Member which should have given me priority. I'm never going back to any Hertz again. I advise others to follow. read more

I rented a van here through Priceline for $980. Because the employee at Hertz MiraMesa HLE did not update the contract based on the documentation I presented, I'm being charged $2200. Priceline has tried to call the Hertz MM HLE office multiple times, but no one answers. The guy gave me a Hertz receipt with the $980 amount, but didn't change it online. It's a nightmare. Don't even try their customer service--Stay Away---The van had trash from the previous renter stuffed in the console (fast food). It is the absolute worst car rental experience I've had in 50 years. A RENTAL IS A RENTAL (3 stars) ... never expect the best yet never accept the worst. It is what it is. Awhile back I decided to rent a car instead of put the miles on my bmw and needed a more gas efficient vehicle. I wasn't sure if I was going to be gone 2/3/4 weeks and planned to be gone 4 weeks on the road. I made reservations online (rates were cheaper than the airport but still expensive) and arrived first thing in the morning to secure the rental. There were people already here before me waiting for the place to open. The car wasn't ready for me when it was being picked up. It was being cleaned and washed (although I appreciate that and I wasn't at that time in a rush it was still weird waiting for it). I ended up paying 4 weeks to secure the rate but returned it a little earlier (maybe a week in advance) and was prorated back what wasn't used but recall it would have been best to for example pay 2 weeks and if extending to call and extend and be charged. Just rented a 12 passenger van for 5 days, I worked with Nicholas to get the reservation and had a great experience overall, had a few hiccups during the trip and calling their support was less than ideal but Nicholas went above and beyond to make sure our rental (and trip) overall went smooth, will definitely come back for future car rental needs to Hertz and this branch in particular. read more

If you want to be discriminated against then go to this location. I came in with my brother's wife yesterday's who is pregnant and has a baby. I came to translate because she doesn't speak English. The night before I called and I spoke to an employee who said you can get a discount through your car insurance but when I went into the store, the guy that's working in the middle register (Darker complexion) he said that we cannot renew our contract with the car insurance even though she already was renting the car for two months through the insurance. Also the person I spoke to the night before said if we bring a comparison price hertz will honor that price. this guy refused to honor that then we agreed that we will just pay the full price cause it is not worth arguing with him. He then went on to say that she did not have any money in her card, even though she did my sister-in-law had to come the next day and then they gave the car. He told her I didn't want to give you the car yesterday because I thought you were not renting it for yourself. This is complete discrimination to not rent to her when she has the money, then charging her more than she needs to pay, she's pregnant and should be treated better than this but all he did was discriminate against us. My brother came to help his wife and reserve a car at five. He said that the last transaction is at 4:55 so if that is the case, then why does the website let you reserve at five? He was just making rules to not give us service because he's discriminating against her. I am just sad because she's pregnant and has a baby with her I came to help and this is the kind of service we got the last time we came. The guy to the right of him was very nice to us. Did not charge us more and made us feel comfortable. Please keep people like him around who do not discriminate And act like we don't have money in our card when we do and charge us more just because she can't speak English. Looking at the previous reviews this place got, I was very nervous and debated whether or not I should rent from here. But, fortunately had a simply quick and easy experience getting my rental. Booked what I needed 3 days ahead, all online. And despite the agent working alone, I got the exact vehicle (7-seater) that I needed 10 mins earlier then my pick-up time. So there's that. read more

Honestly I have no complaints regarding the store location, the staff or the car itself. All top-notch! My issue is with a Hertz policy. This was the second time I rented from Hertz in the last month. In this case, the reason for the rental was that my car was being mechanically repaired and I thought that I would need a car for 5 days. The repair shop was very efficient though and I only needed a car to 3 days, not 5. My mistake was PRE-PAYING. I'll never do that again! I picked the car up Monday morning at 8:00 am and returned it Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., even though it was paid for until Friday at 5:00 p.m. From the Hertz website in the "Common Questions on Return" section that if you return a car early you will NOT receive a refund for the unused portion of your rental although you still are welcome to return the car early. My total bill was $228.76 so effectively I paid $76.25 a day for a Chevy Malibu. For the same $$ from Enterprise I could've gotten an Audi A5 or BMW 3-series. My mistake was that I assumed I'd be refunded the $$ for the two days I didn't use. Hertz probably re-rented my car and for those two extra days got $90 a day instead of the standard $45. Maybe this is the standard practice in the industry, but I think the car rental company needs to highlight the early return policy up front. *Disclaimer: This complaint is more against the corporate side, as I dont believe the employee was to blame. I made a reservation and when I arrived, there were two parties ahead of me. One had been waiting for a while for a car to be delivered from a different site. The party ahead of me was told by the employee that he had no cars available. A call to a sister site (La Jolla) was apparently met with a very apathetic "no". Shortly after I too, was told that there were no cars for my reservation. I suggested an alternative vehicle. The employee said he had a minivan (which at that point I would have taken), but that it would be at the minivan rate. Ive encountered similar issues in the past with Enterprise. The solution was always the same. "Please enjoy an upgrade, or double upgrade at your original price" -Understaffed -Unsatisfactory performance (corporate level issue) -Complaint has been made on Hertz website as well. I dont want an apology, I dont want coupons or incentives. On be half of the other parties that were also given unfulfillable reservations, we want corrective actions to be taken at the corporate level. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could! Making an appointment doesn't matter. I waited over an hour and a half to even speak to anyone. On top of being over the price in expensive-- these employees have no regard for another person's time. I was there for over 3 hours as the process of getting the card I reserved took that long! I don't normally even make reviews but I am completely dissatisfied. For my drop off, I had to Uber to work from this Hertz, so I made the hefty & bearded employee aware that I had very little time to do drop off. I definitely did not have 3 hours to wait again. He didn't even acknowledge this, which made me FURIOUS. He was on the phone and laughing with someone else. I literally just left but I stormed out because as he can amble and move slowly for his job, i unfortunately do not have that luxury. Horrible service & terrible pricing! I paid upfront for the rental. Arrived to pick up the car and they increased the cost, bait and switch trash ? The new cost pushed over my card limit. Had to go home and get a different card, lost 3 hours on my trip. When I returned the vehicle, the location manager ran the final bill and their was no additional cost. It's been a while since I've been a victim of a bait and switch scheme, but Hertz Mira Mesa managed to pull it off. Avoid this location, and Hertz in general if you can. I was in a car accident and my insurance covered $25/day of rental car costs so I wanted to keep my expense under that limit. They have special deals for insurance companies so it's possible to do so. I called Hertz and asked for a car as similar to mine (crossover style SUV) as possible, and emphasized I wanted to keep the cost under $25/day. The gentleman who answered the phone said that would be no problem, and informed me they had a Nissan Rogue that would work. I reiterated that it had to be under $25/day, and he assured me it would be. They had a lyft pick me up and bring me to the MIra Mesa location; I arrived about 50 minutes after the phone call. The gentleman checked me in and informed me that the Rogue would be $35/day, NOT $25. I questioned this, reminding him that less than an hour prior he assured me of the lower price. He said, "Sorry, prices change all the time, and this is the price now." I asked me to honor the price he quoted me, and he said he wouldn't. I called Hertz customer service from the store to complain and hopefully get a resolution, and the woman I spoke with was sympathetic but told me there was nothing they could do. If I wanted to file a formal complaint I'd need to email them. Since I needed a car, I had to take what was available. Hertz offered me a Toyota Corolla. When he drove the car around to the front of the store I noticed it was a Nissan Sentra. He apologized and told me the Toyota was malfunctioning. The car was dirty (bird poop) and he gave me a car wash coupon and told me I could wash it myself. Other than that the car was in fine condition. I emailed customer support as requested. Two days later they responded and informed me that there was nothing they could do, and I'D HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE MIRA MESA LOCATION AND COMPLAIN TO THE MANAGER DIRECTLY. I've already complained once at the store, once via telephone, and once via email and keep getting the runaround. They will blatantly lie to you, and give you the runaround if you have issues. Avoid this location and Hertz in general. On a side note: My parents rented a car here for the past week and a half through Enterprise and had a good experience. Use them instead. read more

Got a great price on a rental at this location. Arrived and spoke with someone within 2 or 3 minutes. They sorted me out (tried a polite upsell, which I declined) and got me into an Altima (Full Size booking) within a few more minutes. The car was well maintained. The person who helped me out to the car - Natalie - was incredibly kind and really great. So was the person who helped me inside (didn't catch her name). Drove several hundred miles and the car handled all of it well, didn't have any problems, and everything was smooth (the Altima is a great ride for long distance driving!) My only complaint (which I addressed with them) was I was told certain features were in the car and they were not (couldn't check until on the road). Not the end of the world but I mentioned it on return. All in all definitely recommend this location. It's also next door to a gas station (and what looks like a tasty taqueria), so you can easily fill up before return! read more

It's tucked and hidden away by the car wash and I would have never found it if it wasn't for making my reservation online. Speaking of which, I dunno if there would be any cars available for a walk in rental, but hey, if you're never going to find this place without an online reservation I guess it's moot right? I don't know if it's me but it seems the rates for rental cars have been steadily climbing. I found the rates through Hertz reasonable this time around. I rarely rent cars, but because of my excellent experience at this Hertz, I've come back to rent multiple times this year. Shironda has always been the one to help me, and she is delightful, helpful, very welcoming and personable. Because of her incredible customer service, she has made me a believer! I ONLY rent from Hertz now!! I went from reserving rental cars once every other year to 4 times this year alone!! Some of the key events that switched me from Enterprise to Hertz (and reasons I've been motivated to rent more often): - Shironda's level of professionalism and friendliness - I reserved an economy sized car but because they're new and didn't have that sized vehicle, I was upgraded to a better vehicle, free of charge - The cars that I've rented from Hertz don't have a weird funky smell that the ones at Enterprise do (I think the smell may be because of a cleaning agent they use on the interior) - I was 20 minutes late when I was picking up my first rental (because I was lost and I couldn't find the place). Shironda waited for me even though the store closed at 5pm, so she stayed there longer than she had to to ensure that I was able to pick up my rental car! She, my friends, is a dedicated worker - The entire experience is hassle-free and the workers are willing to work with you and help you out Also on a side note, I'm pretty sure this Yelp listing was created by the person who left a complaint review because the store hours definitely aren't correct. I almost missed picking up my rental because I thought they closed at 6pm when they actually close at 5pm. So as a tip, call for store hours!!! read more

I made a reservation 2 weeks prior to pick up date for a 7-person van at this convenient location. Yelp reviews for this place scared the crap out of me. Other reviews talked about unavailable cars upon arrival even though a reservation has been made for the place, customer service that could care less...etc. My main concern was that I will not be able to pick up the van per the original plan, so I actually made back up plans because of these reviews! On the day of the pickup, I showed up early, kept my reservation number handy, and had my back up plan ready. There was only one other person and I was helped within minutes. They gave me a clean, new, 7 person van as requested - and I was out the door from start to finish in 15 minutes. The customer representative was very nice and helpful. I was actually so surprised about my visit that I asked her why were the reviews so horrendous, and she said that the staff is aware of the reviews, but those incidents are rare. I returned the van the next day with zero issues and was not charged anything more than what I had expected. I think that those with bad experiences make a much stronger effort to document and vent via yelp, than those with a good, smooth experience. Since the consistently bad reviews on this Hertz made me waste a lot of unnecessary time putting together a backup plan(which wasn't used) - I wanted to make the effort to at least share my excellent experience with this location so other yelpers don't end up with worries like I did. Always takes an extra half hour or so to get the car, they have to wash it or it's on hold not to be rented. So far I have not had any issue with Hertz as a company, but major issues with this specific branch. I booked a 5-day rental from Hertz Mira Mesa back in December for a trip over President's Day weekend in February. The reservation time was at 8:00 am on Friday so that I could pick up the car on my way to school. I arrived at about 7:55 and, seeing that the office was completely empty, decided to go on a quick walk around the building to stall. I arrived back at the front office just past 8, and there was still no one in sight. Feeling a little worried, I pulled out my phone to see that I had gotten a voicemail from Hertz claiming that there weren't any cars ready yet and that they would call me when one was available. This was a major cause of stress for me, as I only had a couple of hour long breaks sprinkled throughout the day, and UCSD is reasonably far away. I called Hertz back and was directed to the generic customer service representative who told me they would be in contact with the area manager who would try to work it out with me. By 11 am, I still had not heard from Hertz, so I gave the office a call. I was told again that no cars were available, but he said they could send someone out in my break around 2 pm when cars came in to pick me up. He told me that they would call me again when it was ready. 2 PM rolls around, and still nothing from Hertz. I call back and ask about the status of the car. Justin tells me that there is one currently available and that I'm welcome to come pick it up. Thankfully, one of my friends just got off class and I can hitch a ride with him to the office. This break is only from 2-3, so I'm expecting a quick transaction at the office. I arrive at the office and lo and behold, Justin had lied to me on the phone and there were actually no cars available. I'm told that one will be arriving in about 15 minutes. It's now about 2:30, and I have to sit there in the office waiting for a car that I should have received at 8 am, and then was lied to about its availability. After about 20 minutes, the car arrives and I complete the transaction. I arrive back at school around 4:30, 60% of the way through my class. The rest of the weekend was great, and the car was a fun addition to the trip. I had zero issues with the car for the course of my vacation, but there was a nice little surprise in my bank account a few days after returning the car to the office. Justin had apparently neglected to apply the AutoClub age differential waiver to my rental, and I had been hit with an additional charge of $116.37. I contacted Hertz corporate on Twitter, and they, thankfully, solved the issue within a few hours and removed the charge. I would certainly think twice about using this particular location again. The service I received was unacceptable, and obtaining the rental was a huge source of stress for a weekend of relaxation. It's one thing to have no cars available and your rental be late, it's another thing to be lied to by the employee. read more

Excellent.. A car rental company within walking distance of my workplace. I'm a big fan of hertz - usually they have nice cars, good service and I don't have to deal with much BS. Unfortunately, this location has to work out some kinks. This a new location - literally the office is empty except for one desk and one computer. Upon entering, the agent explained that they didn't have the full size vehicle I booked a whole week earlier. What?? The odd thing is that I actually made a back-up rental, and they didn't have either car that I booked. She explained that because they're new, they don't get many cars. She said they tried to call me, but I didn't get any voicemails or missed calls and I just checked that my profile had the correct # on file. I pretty much only had 2 options - a Yaris (compact) and a Cherokee (SUV). I chose the Yaris because we wanted to get to Vegas quickly and it seemed more zippy. It ended up being $10 MORE than the full size I booked and it had 0 features: no aux, no power windows, no remote key entry, terrible sound system, terrible A/C (which was horrible in 110° weather). 3 stars because the agent was sweet, and the car got us there. read more

We were joking that we could dance in all the extra space there was. We were greeted by a young lady who was on the phone. But she told us she would help us shortly. We ended up getting a Kia that only had 500 miles on it. Score!! We definitely put a good dent in the miles, since we were going to Vegas Baby!! I can't remember what year it was 2015 I think but it didn't have gps. What I liked about it was quiet when you drove it and didn't feel like you were driving 70. A smooth ride..slow ride..take it easy! Also it has Sirius radio so we could listen to Howard stern all the way.. If we wanted. The two minute stars only because customer service. A very small location, did not even realize this was a car rental place until I had to actually rent one & I always get my car washed at Soapy Joe's which is right next door. It's relatively new, it's only a year old & it's really spacious for a car rental place. Service was good. The associate was really friendly and nice. He wasn't too pushy to try to up sell services or insurances. I got a good price on my car rental in comparison to Enterprise which is right across Hertz. When I got the car, it was detail cleaned and quick and easy. I will definitely be renting from here again. read more

We were on the hunt for a last minute SUV and were turned down by all the other car rental companies in San Diego. However, this location was able to give us exactly what we needed the day of! We rent cars when we travel and there always seems to be a hassle somewhere along the road. LOL My daughter's car was hit and is being repaired. We shopped rates and usually go with Budget but came across this little gem. You associate Hertz with $$$$$. This rental was $90 cheaper -for the week- than Budget, Avis and Enterprise with Union discounts. I used my AAA discount and it was less than $20 a day. I'll be going here. It's convenient, and so what if it has one desk, one computer. Seriously, it's like a little boutique place that is waiting to serve just you. I would call ahead if you need a specialty car or a large vehicle. We got exactly what we ordered and the young lady helping us was WONDERFUL. She explained everything but she did it quickly. All the other rental places take their time like they have all the time in the world. It was a great experience and am hesitant to give up this little gem to the public but man, prices were great!
