He claimed he had no gas vehicles left and the reservation doesn't guarantee availability. I spotted two gas cars in the lot and told him to give me either one. I would not rent from this location again and do NOT recommend them. IF you do rent from them, verify your receipt carefully so they don't rip you off. Reserved a full size vehicle for a week. I showed up about an hour early and Alfredo, Avis clerk told me the only full size vehicle ready was a Kia. I pointed out a Toyota Camry right next to the Kia and he reluctantly agreed to rent it to me. However the vehicle was quite dirty and Alfredo told me to come back in an hour. So I came back in an hour to rent the Camry. Came the day to return the vehicle a week later. The same clerk, Alfredo, helped me with the return. As I was walking out, I noticed that I was charged extra $40. When I went back to the office to point out the discrepancy, Alfredo said "That's because you are an hour late in returning the vehicle." I reminded him that the vehicle was dirty and he had told me to come back an hour later. Thus I was actually 20 minutes early rather than an hour late. Apparently he never bothered to correct the contract on the day I rented the vehicle. Not even an apology for his error but only a flippant "have a nice day" from Alfredo. Like others have said, review your receipt before leaving. They will attempt to charge you extra fees - I returned a car 1 minute after they opened, they were helping someone else so he said leave the keys and he would close it out. 2 minutes later I received the receipt but should have looked right then, later noticed they charged fuel service even though the tank was full. If you call them directly with caller id they will not answer the call. I called back blocking my caller id and they picked up on first attempt, but then left me on hold for 10 minutes and dropped the call. Called back but this time took another 10 attempts - put on hold again before they came back and confirmed they would remove the charge and that the tank was full. Received a new receipt 5 minutes later, but of course charge was still there. I ended up calling a is directly to escalate and process refund. Will look for another Avis location on next return. read more

Not even worth one star. The place looks cheap and run down. Unfriendly staff. Make sure read all the fine print because they have no problem taking your money up front and then refuse to rent to you when you get there. Then they make you call for a refund that will take three to five days. But that is not there problem. I literally had a supervisor tell me that. Poor customer service. Lack of caring. Will never rent from Avis. There are plenty better companies. Never have i had issue with Enterprise or Hertz. First and last experience with Avis. I just left the location. The lady was very friendly and professional but the shorter stockier guy was less patient and courteous. He had no people skills, which isn't hard, just say hello to someone that you are working with and you're welcome when someone says thank you and gives you iContact, don't just look at them and you will get better than a three star review. Rented a car from here and wanted to add an additional driver. The heavy set guy that was helping me literally quoted me 4 different prices for an additional driver in one sentence. I asked him which price is it since you am just went from 13 to 15 to 20 to 27 like wtf are you serious. I mentioned I rented through Costco he said it doesn't matter. I went to Poway and the gentleman that helped me there was super nice and without me saying anything stated it was free through Costco rental and have a nice day. This Budget location threatened my and my family's life by renting us an unsafe vehicle - both rear tires worn down to the steel belt. We had a flat tire emergency and had to drive on the spare with the other tire. Lost a day of vacation. Could have lost our lives. Roadside assistance and customer service were useless, trying to get us to pay for a tow. I don't leave reviews often but felt the need to warn others after my interaction with Avis. Just telephoned the Miramar location to ask if they had available midsize cars on their lot to rent due to a shortage in the local area. The lady who answered the phone stated she couldn't help me and put me on hold. A man who identified himself as Alfredo answered the phone and before I could get a word out, Ridley told me to call customer service and then yelled into the phone that i am not his customer and he can't help me. He would not identify himself as the manager or owner and hung up on me when I asked who he was. I am shocked to say the least. Extremely rude and disrespectful. I recently returned a car I rented to this location. Their customer service was unacceptable, specifically SUSANA, and Alfredo. Susana for being unreasonable ( the tank was full at the F line and she wanted more gas so the the indicator would be above the F line -the tank could not hold more) and was going to charge me for more gas or sent me away to get "a couple more gallons of gas". ( I told her I just topped off the gas until the gas stopped. She asked for the the receipt. ) Alfredo charged an additional $234.00 to my credit card without explanation after I told him how upset I was for going back to the gas station for more gas (0.26 of ONE GALLON). This rental car sucked. I booked a rental car a month ago and a day before my pickup day, an agent here called me and told me that they didnt have a car for me with a bad manner and without any explanation or any other guides for my needed help, and he quickly hung up on me. I was at the office and I didnt even have a chance to ask that agent's name and asked for more info. Then when I called again, he referred me to talk to the other agent if I can ask for a car rental at another location, and he picked one for me with a price $100 added up more, which is super ridiculous. They called me last minute and didnt even make up for their fault, then I asked them if they could give me the same price as I booked before, and the agent put me on hold for more than 30' and never got back to me. I would not recommend avis any more for the future, totally the worst. read more

I just rented a car from this place and I left feeling very unsatisfied. I believe that they overcharged me. I feel that they misled me about the daily rental cost. They weren't able to explain the fees to my satisfaction. I'm a lifetime member of Avis and have rented cars from this location a few times before without any issues - except my last rental. I received a call to drive up north at 5:15pm and most other Avis locations are closed at 5pm except this one and the airport so I immediately called them for a reservation and the guy that answered the call did not sound like he wanted to help and told me they didn't have any car. In desperation, I used my company's rental website to check one last time before renting at the airport and found out they still have cars available so I booked one and sped there immediately. I arrived at 5:53 PM and a guy was closing the gate. I told him that I have just booked a car and I am there to pick it up and he told me that I was late, they are already closed. I told him it's only 5:53 PM. He went ahead and close the gate and completely ignored me and this is the reason why I'm writing this critique. I am OK if he tells me that he has to leave early or whatever but to completely ignore me and then locked the gate and spend another 15 minute chitchatting with somebody in front of me was completely unprofessional. I called the office and they answered but put me on a permanent hold! I ended up having to drive my 2003 car up north for my business trip. Just when I needed them the most, they let me down so I will never rent from this place again, ever! read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND! I had made a reservation 2 weeks prior to my arrival to the city, called and verified with the location and thought all was well. I am under 25 with USAA which waves the fee. I had called and brought all the proper information needed, however when I arrived to this location the woman working was rude and very unhelpful. She had no idea what she needed to input in her system and ordered me to call the national life to "figure it out for her". I was one of 6 people in line and instead of helping me, I was told to figure it out and she went to help someone else. I spent an hour on the phone with the national line on speaker trying to have her figure it out. She refused to show me the total she was going to charge my card, which would've ended up being 600 more dollars if I had let her just run it without the under 25 discount. And I ended up behind the counter with her asking me if the discount code she put in was the right one.. which seeing as I don't work there, I wasn't able to verify. She also refused to call her manager until the person from the national line told her she needed to. When I finally revived my vehicle, it was dirty and the second day it had a maintenance required warning. I have tried to call almost every day and have yet to actually reach a person. This is my first time visiting my family for Christmas since joining the army and this almost ruined the experience. read more

We were running late to pick up the car, and got there 15min after closing time, but the manager waited for us. He was very helpful and got us the car quick.
