It's pretty pathetic when you have 2 cashiers both with lines of about 6 customers each and they're both having customer delays...meanwhile I can hear voices laughing from the front office. After a couple unanswered intercom calls 1 cashier walks up to the door and knocks. As the door opens I could clearly hear 2 people laughing and talking, one comes out, hastily overrides the change of heart and hightails it back to the bullistic protection of his tiny front office, away from accountability, customers and responsibility. Even training ops take a backseat to urgent customer concerns and backups...well they should in my humblest opinion. I can honestly say I've only ever encountered 2 humbly genuine employees at this location...seems like everyone else is a chip on someone else's shoulder. There are many dollar stores here in Washington state and ive been to many of them. So far each experuence has been quite surprisingly pleasant for the most part. Their service has been impeccable, the variety of objects for 1.25, which was changed to 25 cents more not to long ago, varies from aisle to aisle. One of my colleagues would say it was a perfect candy store. The other colleague said it was. Perfect makeup store so all depending on what you're going for, you'll see it... I went to this location to return expired dog treats that I purchased from another location but apparently, this location doesn't do returns, only exchanges. I agreed to a fair exchange for dog treats that weren't expired then they said i had to go to the location i purchased them from because they didn't want to take the hit or write a receipt for it. They have a big selection of food, party supplies, holiday decorations, cheap toys, household items etc. I found bags for party favors here (not in my choice of color but they will work) $1 for 10 bags, crepe paper streamers, a few other decorations, and baby shower napkins. The Burien dollar tree has to be the worst one of this chain in Washington state. The stores hours are from 9 AM to 9 PM Monday through Saturday but there's just one manager who doesn't think that that's correct and feels it should be done her way which is very unpleasant. If you try to go shopping at this store anytime after 8:30pm at night you will be met by a her who yelling over the loud loud speaker that you the store is closing in 15 minutes and you have 15 minutes to shop and you better have all your items to the front or you are not going to be checked out. She continues to do this every two minutes in a very irritating voice The problem with this is that she starts at 8:30 PM and they lock the door at 8:45 PM when the store supposed to be open till 9 PM. No one is allowed in after 8:45 PM under any circumstances door is locked and God for bid anybody say anything about it he goes after you with a vengeance and then the other employees start in about why are you even coming here if you don't like it trust me I don't go to that store by choice anymore I have been going to three other stores that are farther away anything to not have to deal with that manager and those employees even with the high price of gas I would much prefer spend money on gas and drive to another store be treated like a person then go in that store. I have personally seen her block people from coming into the store at 8:45 PM which was maddening. her reasoning for shutting the store down early is that her ladies meaning staff need to get home to their families that they've stayed out of the kindness of their heart to keep the store open as late as they have and they need to get home to their families in the real world that's called a schedule that's called your shift . read more

The bright side is that they always have what I am looking for. Holiday or party decorations are the best things to get from here. The not so bright side... The other people here. Generally there are at least 5-10 crackheads in the store at a time. People mumbling, coughing, shouting, & smelling awful. Also, I can't visit this store without being hit on by at least one strange man. Never fails! I'll continue to visit this store for holiday decor. On Saturday 2/28/15 at 3:51 I spoke to an Erik who claimed to be the manager. I say claimed because it's hard to believe that such an immature person would be given this position of responsibility, much less a customer facing position. This Dollar Tree location is an eyesore to Burien due to the prevalence of trash and litter around the outside of the store. There used to be a trash can outside the front door, which is no longer there, so now people just throw their packaging, etc. on the ground, and it was way out of control on Saturday. So I called the store, Eric answered, and after confirming he was the manager, I told him that he had a serious trash problem in front of his store, and he went off on me: 1. Saying he spends 6 hours a day cleaning up trash...he actually said this twice. Not what you say to a customer [me], and besides, clearly an exaggeration. 2. Then he started railing about the transients that hang out around the store. Again, I don't want to hear that, I want to hear: "Thank you customer for your concern and I will take care of the problem right away." 3. And finally he said, and I quote: "Are you dumping trash in front of my store...you've probably been dumping trash in front of my store." My wife was listening to the call, and we were both astonished. ...Did he really just say that?! The odds of my spending money in this store now is practically zero. read more

Everything for a dollar! How can you not like this place? I've been to a few Dollar Tree Stores and they are all very clean and maintained. I'm reviewing this particular store because its closest to me. Since it is Christmas and I've had to be frugal with the gift spending I went to the Dollar Tree Store to try to do some easily fixed financial damage. I found the most random yet fun gifts for people. The Christmas section is massive. Anything Christmas you need they have. They have the greatest Christmas packaging I've seen. Even without the holiday season in full gear they have a rather impressive selection. There are dishes, you've got food, toys, housewares, car paraphernalia, and even wedding stuff. Yes, wedding stuff for all you brides trying to keep your wedding budget down. I am certainly a fan of Dollar Tree. read more

when i like to indulge myself in some nostalgia or am in need of some comfort shopping, i come here... reminds me of childhood weekends where mom would sometimes bring us to the local 99 cent store in between errands.. and i remember the first time we stopped in there, my sister and i had taken to eyeing some dolls and plastic sand pails and shovels, and mom actually uttered these magical words that as a child i always wished she would say, "Do you want that? I'll buy it for you." *cue handel's messiah music* this was a rare and special moment indeed. mom didn't believe in purchasing toys (waste of space and money) and i survived my childhood with one barbie (a christmas gift from my aunt) and some teddy bears. it was enough. i grew up mostly rough-housing it outside with neighboring boys and girls anyway, running around and climbing rock walls and such. anyway, this place makes me ridiculously happy.. it's my prozac in brick and mortar form. and unlike the dollar or 99 cents stores that i was familiar with as a child, it's not dark, depressing or disorderly. it's actually clean, organized (!!!), brightly lit, and full of useful necessities. the inventory is amazing! you can find sewing kits, glassware, party or holiday decorations, school and craft supplies, silk flowers, topiary arrangement tools, personal care products like shampoo and soap, small storage containers, kitchen supplies... the list goes on, and on. i've bought kitchen cloth rags (100% cotton), zip lock bags, shelf liners, little storage bins, and fruit baskets. and i keep coming back because it's just fun to explore and see what they have. and even bought some toys to use as props for my halloween costume (a cheap alternative to costume sets at the major halloween shops). and since this girl is definitely on a budget, being able to buy these things inexpensively is a boon. i wish i still lived 5 minutes away from this place.. alas it isn't so. but even so i sometimes still make the trip just to indulge in the simple pleasures that a dollar store has to offer. read more

This is the Dollar Tree that's the closes to where I live. I usually hit this place up about once a week. It's your typical dollar store. Medium sized, not too clean, & having all the cheap items you could think of. No doubt about it you can save lots of money shopping here, but just don't expect quality. Some employees are friendly, & some at times can seem like they don't care too much for their jobs. Try it out if you're on a budget, or just want to save money. This reminds me of all dollar trees. Random item for a dollar. Love all the seasonal items. And I can always find something I need! My only major complaint is they always only have one cashier. And the other worker isn't a cashier so couldn't help. The line always gets crazy long. Multiple times I have left my items and just walked out. The one cashier(she is always there) is super fast which helps but still they need more cashiers! And they don't do returns just exchanges. read more

I went here last night to grab some candy goodies for treat bags and get some ties for the treat bags. Pros: Everything was cheap at a great selection of items. Cons: They run out on a lot of stuff than just treats but managed to fill up on the shelves a bit. Even though they ran out of the ties for the goody bags, they actually had some great little mini holiday stocking goodies. The cashier was great and provided great customer service to me. If i give it 0 stars I would!!! Decided to adventure to the Burien store rather than my White Center store for a change. There was 2 visible employees. when I joined the line for checkout it grew to 20 customers ( yes i counted) with 1 cashier! I left my son in line while i went to ask for another register to be opened. The reply I got was " I don't do that, we don't have any one else in the store." But to my surprise when there was an issue at the register the "new" cashier called for the manager. Magically she appeared and stood there dumbfounded. I said to her you have 20 people in line, her response was "I know". by the time I had left they hadn't opened another register. POOR MANAGEMENT! I will never return to this store. I buy many things at this store because of great savings. And yes, there are name brands too. It's great for party and picnic supplies. I try to come once a week, and I have never run into "mumbling, coughing, shouting" and "bad smelling" people yet! The cashiers have all been polite, although they seem to stay about one week and move on. The only problem is that the lines can get very long, and it's rare when another cashier shows up. read more

Admit it--you, too, shop at these low cost, discount stores. We all do, don't we? Don't lie, you, too, shop here, just admit it. There also seems to be a lots of people that shoplift here, which is kind of weird to see someone actually stealing from here as it is a dollar store...a dollar! Wtf?! This store is often crowded and often lacking in cashiers, too. Plan on standing in line. While standing there you'll notice several employees doing little to nothing when they could make better use of their time and perhaps open another checkout, or so you'd think. No, that won't happen, not even if the one or two lanes that are open are so long they end up being half way down the aisle. The manager seems to be a little scatter brained and if you see her at all it will be when you're trying to make your purchase and she's chatting up the cashier that's trying to ring up your purchase, that's not unusual, I've seen it many times, if you see her at all, this will be what she's doing. If she reads this she need not get pissed with my comment, maybe focus on the fact that I felt the need to point it out by commenting. Seriously, if this store wasn't so close to me, I wouldn't shop at this particular store. I do love these stores, just not this one, though. read more

I will not return to this store. When I got up to the check out the clerk greeted me with, "I don't want to hear it" She screamed this at me several times. She picked up my card and yelled, "I don't need this" She held it and continued yelling. I had been standing by myself in line. I had not spoken to her. She had grabbed my card before I could hand it to her and screamed about having to pick up my card. She rang up as debit not credit and screamed that she had to re ring it because I had not told her credit. She screamed she didn't like that she had to pick up my card. I worked for this company for about 5 years, the lat 2 years as a district manager overseeing this store and others. My suggestion is stay away. The market manager at the time thought that threatening to turn managers over his knee was a form of discipline. His RD did everything could to hide this and the Regional HR swept it under the rug and all of them attached the two mangers who reported it. I personally was graded on my review for 2 nonperforming stores that were not even in my district costing me a 20k bonus. When I brought this to everyone's attention I was told it was to late because they could not go back and fix the stock option part of the bonus. Way to take care of your people. Wow some of these reviews are harsh and I shop at the dollar store in Burien a couple of times per week and have witness allot of of what was said. Yes there is a serious drug/homeless problem right in that neighborhood, but does that stop the Burien City Council from doing anything--which is the conundrum? For God's sake don't let your kids go barefoot in Burien! Our streets are no better than San Francisco's. The Dollar Store is next door to the Grocery Outlet both attentive to limited income families or person's. The employees that work there and they work hard trying to constantly pick up after unsupervised children throwing toys around. Ever change your mind on a product and just put it anywhere? and then look for something else where it should be? that coupled with the outward rudeness of the public today, no wonder the Burien Store has a high turnover of personnel. One of the worst experiences I've ever set foot into . Just to get into the place I had to walk through 4 lines of rude people that made me feel like I wasn't in America. I swear I couldn't hear one person speaking English. The store is suppose to be so much bigger. Maybe but the layout of the store sucked . everything so packed together and the lines right at the front of the store are garbage felt like a prisoner and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Which wasn't fast at all because of rude people walking in front of you left and right and just not caring.
