What a beautiful studio! I am a really simple gal and usually do not do lash extensions, so this really felt like a treat :) Upon arrival, there was a ton of 2 hour parking spots. I was able to find a spot really quick, so there shouldn't be any issues there. Once I got inside, the interior felt very modern/clean/aesthetic. They were playing very relaxing music, so I knew this lashing experience would be a relaxing one. The front desk will explain the types of lash extensions styles/curls they offer and will also do recommendations based on your eye shape. I went with a mixed set, 10 mm C curl, kitten style. The lash tech was very gentle. I fell asleep majority of the appointment! The head massage at the end was a great additional touch. Overall, I had a good experience at Dolly Effect. They also have other locations around the Bay Area if San Mateo is too far for you. I went to the San Bruno location 3 days before my wedding and they were absolutely stunning. Because I told them I would have a make up artist for the wedding, they made sure to use a little extra glue so my lashes would look fantastic the day of. The service was exceptional as usual. I had a 1 week fill at the San Mateo location a little after my wedding so my lashes would look it's best for our honeymoon to Japan. This is my second time getting lash extensions. My first time was at their San Bruno location and I would say their customer service and lash tech skills are consistent across the 2 locations. I decided to go 1mm longer than my first set ever because I wanted something a little more dolly like. It is still very subtle and natural, and still won't ever hit my glasses. Take the time to relax and nap for 1.5 hours at your appointment and wake up with beautiful lashes! I am excited to go about my daily life looking already done up with these on. I love the fact that you're given a consultation, the girls here are super knowledgeable and will suggest styles and lengths based on your eye shape and what style you prefer. They had photos too and listened to exactly how I'd like my lashes. I'm a cat-eye volume gal so I decided to stick with that, and tried D curls this time. The whole experience was soooooo wonderful, with the choice of music and the comfortable bed. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep a few times. Woke up with gorgeous lashes! Yay! Another Dolly Effect location that's even closer to me! My first visit was at their Los Gatos location where I had a fantastic experience, so I was super excited to visit their San Mateo location for my 3-week fill. Although I had a different lash technician this time, the customer service, lash application process/style, and the beautiful minimalistic aesthetic is consistent between their locations. My lash technician, Moon, was super friendly and made sure that I was comfortable during the entire duration of my appointment and I felt so relaxed that I fell asleep (again)! The lashes are nearly identical to what I had during my first appointment so I was very impressed - they're dramatic the way I like them, yet lightweight, and I didn't experience any burning or tearing up after my appointment. Moon ended my appointment with a light head massage which was so relaxing and something I haven't experienced during a lash appointment before! Beautiful and clean facilities but tried twice (two different artists) and will not be going back for a third time. Both times left with burning eyes and Extra Itchy glue all over. I also asked for more natural less volume and got the exact opposite. I wanted to try a new place and came back for the convenience bc both times they fit me in the same day but that did not outweigh the bad. Worth mentioning fills usually take less than an hour for me but this last one was two, ouch. It's also the most expensive I've seen. read more

During the consultation, they showed pictures of different styles, lengths, and curl types. Space: Right when you walk in, you can already tell the facility is clean. It's very modern and spacious, but also very inviting. The ambiance was very cozy and I was able to nap while getting my service done no problem. Service: Everyone made my service comfortable and asked if i needed anything periodically.
