This is a long review but worth it to explain my overall experience with Fred Weston lately. I've…read moreused Fred Weston plumbing many times over the last 10+ years in different homes. But this time they really let me down. I had to call them on a Sunday because I had water in my garage between my water heater and hvac. After having two water claims in three years: a toilet leak that damaged the ceiling in the bathroom below it, and a fridge solenoid going bad which allowed water to keep flowing into my ice maker and flood my kitchen. You could say I was panicking about where this water was coming from. There was enough water that it had slowly made a small river under my car and out the garage door. I called FW and was told how much it would be to have them come on a Sunday because there's a minimum of 3 hours or they could try to get me on the schedule. I didn't want to wait because who knew where the water was coming from - a busted pipe somewhere? When the young man came out, he went to all the bathrooms as well as the kitchen, looking under the sinks and behind toilets. He even looked in my attic space - visually from the doorway. Then he looked around the garage at the drainage pipes from the water heater and hvac. No water was visibly leaking. Did he then shop vac the water up? No. He called his boss who agreed with him that he should cut a hole in my garage wall between the water heater and hvac unit. Okay I said, if that's the only way to find out where it's coming from. Well, upon cutting a hole in the wall we discovered that that's just a concrete wall. There are no pipes which meant that any pipes would be above the garage since I have a 3-story condo. He then proceeded to take some of the ceiling tiles out and see if there was any noticeable leaking. None found. I had gone back in my house during all of these events, hoping he'd tell me what he found. When he was done with his investigation, he came in and told me that it looked to be the hvac unit! He said "I got the water cleaned up as best as I could so there's no standing water and it's pretty dry, that's when I noticed that the water looks to be coming from behind the hvac." He told me it's probably a drain pan that's gotten rusty or has a crack in it. (Come to find out, he was right.) It was the following day that I thought about how he hadn't even shop vac'd the water before he cut a hole in my garage! And the site of the hole in my garage - because of course he hadn't fixed the hole in my garage - made me realize that I've been taken for a ride. I called the company and left a message with someone (Linda?) and she said she'd talk to her supervisor and the technician who'd come out on Sunday. I waited another week and when I got no call back, I decided to email them. The only way I could email them was to fill out the contact form on their site. Once again, I got no reply. After two weeks, they did go ahead and cash that big check I gave them on that Sunday. For a while I was thinking maybe they weren't going to cash it because they realized they messed up my garage for NO REASON WHATSOEVER, but I guess I was living in a fantasy world with that scenario. I'm still peeved about the hole in my wall which I still have to fix, and the fact that they have not even had the decency to return my call or email. Shame on Fred Weston Plumbing, and shame on me for being fooled into paying someone for doing absolutely nothing except damaging my property and THEN discovering the issue wasn't a plumbing issue. I knew the price would be high for a Sunday, but I didn't expect them to do the job in a way that left me with a hole to patch and no one to have the decency to get back to me. I'm sure if they take the time to reply it will be to write a long response deflecting or coming up with excuses like they have on other poor ratings. Follow-up to response by "owner". No one called me back. No one emailed me back. No one followed up. Finding out where the water is coming from would've been easier if the water wasn't there. Use common sense. This company is quick to respond to complaints when we leave them a bad review but they are NOT quick to reply to attempts to contact them via phone or email. Excuses excuses is what this company is good at. This is the last follow-up I will have on this review.

I explained my plumbing leak and I was told we will put you on a waiting list in case something came open. I was contacted the same day and my leak was fixed, quickly and for a fair price and cleaned up the work area! Thank you so much for getting our problem solved and fitting us into your schedule! Fred Weston Plumbing will always be our first call!

***SAVE YOUR MONEY, TIME AND ENERGY. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CHOICE ONE PLUMBING. ***…read more My 79-year-old widowed grandmother hired Choice One Plumbing after winter storms in East Tennessee left her without a working toilet for over a week. She was quoted $12,000 for the repair and signed a contract she could not read. We later learned this price was nearly double what other licensed plumbers in the area estimated for the same work. When I contacted the owner, Robert Rutherford, to ask about the large price discrepancy, he stated that the employee who provided the quote was "from California" and had used California pricing. Robert ultimately agreed to void the original contract and issue a new one, but only after the cost was challenged. The project itself took weeks to complete, with multiple missed return appointments and repeated promises that were not kept. After the job was finally finished, construction debris--including lumber and a ladder--was left throughout the yard. My elderly grandmother attempted to clean it up herself until I contacted the company again. Although I was told someone would come the next morning, no one arrived until I called back later that afternoon. Robert Rutherford portrays himself as a man of his word who puts his customers first, but his conduct--and the conduct of his employees--demonstrates the complete opposite. Overall, the experience was stressful, drawn out, and required constant follow-up to get basic commitments fulfilled. I would strongly encourage others to avoid this business entirely and find someone more reliable.

Before any work began, the service manager did NOT explain the hourly rate or pricing structure although they claim their calls are recorded, we requested for them to listen back on their recordings to show we were not explained their high pricing. Had we been told that two employees would be billed at $150 per hour each (a combined $300 per hour which is insane for this type of job), we would have stopped the job and discussed other options before proceeding ESPECIALLY because the one was shadowing and learning still. Scott had to constantly walk him through how to do what they were doing. This project was simply converting one kitchen sink drain to accommodate two sinks. The vanity and sink faucets were already built! All they had to do was convert the pipes below the sinks. The plumbers did not need to work in the crawl space during the installation. They snug the sink so tight on the vanity that the top drawer will not open or close!!! THE WORK TOOK THEM 10 HOURS TO COMPLETE as the crew also took a lunch break and tried to charge their time for it making it a 12 hour job and we had to talk them down those 2 extra hours (one hour lunch per each man). From our perspective, this was work that could have been completed by one experienced plumber in MAYBE a half day TOPS (4 hours not 10!), and we were never given the opportunity to approve or decline having a second person billed at full rate. They said our job was the only one they had for the day so we felt as though they tried to milk every hour possible and were in no rush to complete it in a timely manner. After leaving our original review, the owner called us. He stated that "Scott is a good guy and well worth the $300 an hour," but also said there was nothing he was willing to do to resolve our concerns. Despite later stating publicly that adjustments were made to our invoice, the only adjustment discussed was to acknowledge the job took closer to 10 hours rather than 12. No meaningful resolution or reimbursement was offered. There was not other time spent on other projects although the owner claimed this as well other than helping to turn faucets on for my husband while he was in the crawlspace to see if there were any leaks before they wrapped up and left for the day. I wouldn't call that helping fix other issues in the home. I also didn't know we had to fund every little item spent at the store such as plumbers putty. We were not offered to keep the items they claimed to have charged us on our dime. What disappoints us most is not simply the cost--it's the lack of transparency before the work started and the unwillingness to take responsibility afterward. They demanded we paid before they left that day even though we did not want to pay without discussing with a manager on the $300 an hour charge first. We felt that was unfair and too costly for what has just transpired. We believe customers deserve to know exactly how they will be billed before authorizing a job, especially when multiple employees are being charged at full hourly rates. We asked for a manager to call us and it took them over 2 weeks to call us back just to say basically too bad so sad. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend BK Plumbing. We encourage anyone considering ANYONE else to call.
