Alabama seems to have a theme of loving space: Huntsville has the Space and Rocket Center, whereas Birmingham lets you actually go to space... well at least the next best thing to actually going to space... which is Domestique. This was by far the coolest coffee shop I've ever been to. Other than at home, where else can you play pinball, video games, and board games while sipping on coffee? I went with their Peloton iced coffee and it was your basic, but delicious, cold brew. They also had some good looking pastries that I decided to skip out on. When in the Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham, you have to give this place a visit.

So this place is actually located inside Saturn right on the corner of 41st street and 2nd ave, across from Avondale brewery. If you're driving down the street looking for it, that's probably important to know. One good thing about this place is that they also have a full bar and so if you want, you can get a nice shot of espresso to wake up, and then immediately start drinking. There's lots of seating, it's easy to park early in the day, and while they were a bit short on pastries today, the one I got, which was among the last ones left was pretty good. There aren't a ton of coffee spots in the immediate area, so if you're strolling about in Avondale and you get the need for caffeine, then this place is a godsend. Good prices, nice space, friendly crew, excellent coffee. Definitely worth a visit.

We went here Saturday morning to try a new coffee place. Normally we travel to the Pepper Place district to a place over there but tried something in the neighborhood. Everyone ordered a chi latte. I always like something hot so I ordered mine last. My daughter ordered an iced latte and my wife said I will have the same as her. The server was corrected when she came close to heating my wife's order but she iced it. She appeared upset at being corrected. My wife's order was not satisfactory as the cup wasn't filled to top and foam wasn't added. We all have bad days so may try back again. The place is really different and nice inside. There's special brew coffee packages. They have tons of board games. While leaving I noticed there appeared to be a radio station inside. See the picture. There was no menu on the wall, that I noticed nor printed menus.we asked for one. Oh yeah my hot latte was as delicious even after I reheated its little later

This place has the potential to be very cool. Coffee shop with a bar and games. They have a ton of board games, pinball machine and game stations. Upon entry the space is open and super cute. Definitely an instagram worthy spot. I went with my parents to this location, we all ordered chai tea lattes (2 iced & 1 hot). I only have 2 remarks regarding this place that kind of threw my expense off. This spot does not have a menu posted inside so unless you already know what you want it can be kind of difficult to have the staff go through what all they serve and the flavors, not an ideal situation to me. Also, the lady at the counter started off decent with the customer service but somewhere along the lines I guess she got frustrated because my mom ordered an iced chai tea latte and she did not hear her say iced. The lady began making a hot chai tea latte and my mom informed her that she requested the drink to be iced. The employee was clearly upset by this and only filled her cup up partially and did not add the foam as previously requested. We went to this location to support the coffee shop in our neighborhood but due to the customer service we will not be returning.

I had a seasonal coffee (honey lavender?). It was okay. I would like to come back when I have time to play a game.

They have outlets at not all, but several tables, so it can be a nice place to bring your computer. Music isn't very loud, so not too distracting. Parking can be difficult sometimes - there are only a few spots behind the building and a few in the front. Other than that, there is street parking on the one way next to the building, or on 18th (main drag through downtown Homewood). They have a drive-thru, but it's a bit odd at first glance. You either enter from the one way street paralleling it or from the alley that runs behind the building. It looks like you're driving up onto the sidewalk! If the line of long, it might be a bit of a wait, so I wouldn't count on it if you're in a hurry. I always get an Iced Blueberry Vanilla latte, and it's ~$7. It really did taste like a blueberry muffin. The patio had a relaxed, cozy vibe that made it easy to just slow down and enjoy the morning. Only downside was parking. I had to circle the block twice before finding a spot, so just be prepared if you go during a busy weekend morning. Thankfully, they do have a drive-thru option which is a huge plus if you're short on time or don't want to deal with parking. Definitely still worth the stop for the coffee and atmosphere!!!

I've had good coffee, great coffee, exceptional coffee, mediocre coffee, and questionable things called "coffee". O'Henry's on Highlands is a standard small coffee shop inside, nice ambience, cute. Staff is friendly for the most part. Has usual stuff like food/pastries, etc. While all nice, the one thing I've never liked was their coffee. It's standard tasting, basic B level, and when i'm in the area and have to have a coffee right now, I end up ordering a flavored coffee there, because it masks the lack of flavor of their actual coffee, which is what I really wanted in the first place. If you are an average Joe and just want a cup of coffee and there happens to be coffee shop you're parked next to, O'Henry's will do the job. But if you're looking for a great cup of coffee or even a good cup of coffee, don't bother coming there, because you won't find it, sadly. Scale of one to ten- Shop itself: 8, Coffee: 3-4

Minimal indoor seating, probably about 10 chairs here, and a few more tables out on the sidewalk. I tried the conecuh cheddar biscuit. They heated it for me. It was wonderfully moist and flavorful. If you're a fan of conecuh like me, it's delicious. Also tried the blueberry muffin and it was very moist, good flavor, but light on the blueberries. I want to try the morning glory muffin next time. The coffee here is great by my non-snob, bean-uneducated standards. I had a honey cinnamon latte, as recommended by the wonderful two baristas. They were great to talk to, told me their favs, cracked some jokes, and I left giggling. Hehehe. Something about this place makes me feel like I'm Zooey Deschanel in a twee coat on a rainy day in Portland.

It is like a magical French bakery/general store, tucked away like a secret garden. Am I in south France or Birmingham? HARD TO TELL I don't know if I enjoyed the treats more or all the visual delights. The treats were just amazing. I brought my husband and all of my kids so we got a nice sampling of goodies from the cases. It was all perfection. Cookies were crispy on the edges, appropriately soft in the middle. The almond cake was buttery and sweet, but not too sweet. Muffins were excellent. The food is so well done. The ambiance here? Extraordinary. Every corner, every ceiling tile, every display has been so thoughtfully curated. This place was such a treat for my eyes and my imagination. I could sit for hours and just enjoy all the clever ways furniture is used. My kids played in the little play area- even that was done so beautifully! The store had such a wide selection of cute tea towels and little gifts. If you want to surprise someone with a beautiful little happy, or birthday gift, or Mother's Day gift, there's plenty to choose from here! I rarely buy things from little stores like this, but I purchased several gifts for girlfriends and my mom and an apron for myself. It's easy to get caught up!

It's such a unique place with it being both a restaurant as well as a shop. It's got a very nostalgic feel to it with the decor and items for sale. I saw a couple students but when I visited I mostly saw upper class looking Caucasian ladies. Being very laid back, down to earth and often times socially awkward, I admit that it felt a little hoity toity, while also being a very welcoming spot. It's hard to explain, so you'll have to check it out for yourself. Also worth noting for the plus size community: the chairs are not plus size friendly. (See zoomed in photo) The employees there were on top of their jobs and super helpful. They cleaned up the tables that emptied quickly, as the lunch crowd trickled in. The food was good. I loved the creative presentation of the sampler plate! The pimento cheese was very cold and hard to spread but I still it. The toast triangles were delicious! While they offer a lot of excellent coffee choices. I only got a 1/2 & 1/2 tea. Even the restroom was really neat with the retro decor. I'd definitely go back.

Now mind you they will use all kinds of syrups with dyes and additives and sugars but nope not Splenda. That's bad for you. The 50 grams of sugar in a single vanilla latte is totally fine. We're ok with that even though that alone is over the recommended amount. But Splenda no we can't allow that. Will never be back.
