Cute place with great coffee! The service was great and it was nice to get to sit outside and enjoy the morning.

Like food, there are things you eat or drink that you remember, which stays with you because of how good it was, and those become the baseline for the bar future things should meet in order to be held to that same standard of quality. I've had good coffee, great coffee, exceptional coffee, mediocre coffee, and questionable things called "coffee". O'Henry's on Highlands is a standard small coffee shop inside, nice ambience, cute. Staff is friendly for the most part. Has usual stuff like food/pastries, etc. While all nice, the one thing I've never liked was their coffee. It's standard tasting, basic B level, and when i'm in the area and have to have a coffee right now, I end up ordering a flavored coffee there, because it masks the lack of flavor of their actual coffee, which is what I really wanted in the first place. If you are an average Joe and just want a cup of coffee and there happens to be coffee shop you're parked next to, O'Henry's will do the job. Awesome coffee shop. The Highland Park neighborhood is one of my favorite spots to hang out in Birmingham. Beautiful tree-lined streets, lots of doggos. Minimal indoor seating, probably about 10 chairs here, and a few more tables out on the sidewalk. I tried the conecuh cheddar biscuit. They heated it for me. It was wonderfully moist and flavorful. If you're a fan of conecuh like me, it's delicious. Also tried the blueberry muffin and it was very moist, good flavor, but light on the blueberries. I want to try the morning glory muffin next time. The coffee here is great by my non-snob, bean-uneducated standards. I had a honey cinnamon latte, as recommended by the wonderful two baristas. They were great to talk to, told me their favs, cracked some jokes, and I left giggling. Hehehe. This is a cozy little coffee shop in a very beautiful Birmingham neighborhood. It's nestled away from the hustle of the city activity so it's a very relaxed atmosphere. When you step into the shop you feel as if you've been transported back in time. The decor is old English and has a historic feel to it. There are many flavors and variations of coffee available to choose from. The baristas were so knowledgeable about the products and were eager to make suggestions when needed. There are several seats inside as well as tables outside to sit and study alone or enjoy a coffee with friends. There is a Mexican restaurant right next door that has super fast service and good food, along with spirits. Disclosure: one of the baristas at O'Henry's is my son. I realize I am biased in saying that he is very personable, has great energy and makes the best iced lattes! Aaliyah was working alongside Garrett the day I came in and upon asking about the blueberry iced latte, she shared that she had made herself and white chocolate iced blueberry latte and really enjoyed it. So I ordered that very drink and it was DELICIOUS! I always want to give honest reviews with integrity. With that being said, I forewarned my son that I would have to take one star off the review for the lack of more cleanliness in the shop. This is a great location with a beautiful park across the street. They have a few tables outside and a few inside where you can sit and enjoy your coffee or pastry. Street parking is available, but depending on the day, it can be difficult to find a parking place. I was meeting my son for final wedding details at the Donnelly House which is in walking distance, and I arrived 30 minutes early. I was looking for a place to wait, and was initially considering not going to O'Henry's because I'm not a fan of coffee. I decided to visit anyway, and the baristas behind the counter were very helpful helping me navigate the menu for a non-coffee option. Per their suggestion, I decided on the frozen mocha creme, and even decided to add whipped cream, and what a lot of whipped cream it was!! I always say, "If you aren't going to go big then go home." This made it extra delicious, and I recommend that all non-coffee drinkers try it. Great place and great service!! read more

Get there early and the muffins are still warm. My favorites is Chocolate Cappuccino or Lemon Poppy Seed. Lots of people order the oatmeal, but I can't get past the muffins. Any drink will satisfy. Their coffee is excellent, and they always have medium and dark roast options. For decaf, you wait for the pour over brewing method, which feels like it takes 10 minutes, which probably means it takes 3-5. Their tea comes from another local company, Piper. Ask the barista what they are drinking lately. It's how I found the strawberry and green tea mixture. Yes, you can ask for a combination. Cold brew, seasonal drinks, Chai. You name it, they serve it. (probably true but I don't know what you're after so don't hold me to it!) There's one big clean bathroom in the back. Only 2 tables inside right now. Staff where masks, some customers don't. Outside seating is ample, plus Rushton Park is across the street! Parking is limited, but spots open frequently unless it's lunchtime or brunchtime Tuesday through Sunday when Rojo is hoppin' next door. For the record, Rojo loves it when you support O'Henrys, Laney herself commented on my Rojo review, it's why Rojo doesn't bother making good coffee. They want you to order your coffee next door. Just had my first truly bad experience here and I've been going here a while as I live around the corner. I have liked having a cafe on the corner but it's becoming irrelevant now. The customer service was sub par and so was the coffee. And the muffin tasted store bought. I don't know if that has changed but I was under the impression that the muffins were made fresh. Customer service : I suppose this young lady was training and I ordered a blueberry cold brew half sweet. The trainee proceeded to have a dispute with the cashier about how to make my drink. So I said hey I'll just have a regular cold brew large please. Things got weird. They both seemed offended I changed my order and I just said hey no big deal I just changed my mind. I wonder how the management structure is at a place like this. For a while it was the same friendly and professional staff. But I guess these days it's hard to hold on to anyone who has a sense about serving the public. I don't know. But, after feeling like I had intruded by buying a coffee here the coffee tasted like absolute crap. Tasted like dishwater. I'm at home writing this and still haven't finished it. Probably won't. Food and Coffee is good, but if you're going to sit down and try to get work done, chat with a friend or make a phone call forget it. It's a small space and you'll have to listen to the baristas chatter on about sex, sex, and also sex. Who's having it, who wants it, who she plans to give it to, and how it compares to previous sex other people had. There's so much gossip from the baristas it might as well be a bar at midnight, but without any alcohol. I get it employees need to talk about stuff but show some awareness of your workplace and respect for the customers who actually keep the lights on in your shop. Local neighborhood coffee shop in highland park I often come in to grab a cup of joe or a mocha. The staff is always friendly and the wait is never too long. There are seats available also, so you can do some work while here or read or whatever. Not a big space like some coffee shops but sufficient. I love the coffee at O'Henry's, so this review is more about the location. For someone like me who truly uses a coffee shop to study or work, this location is probably the LEAST conducive for those activities. EXTREMELY tiny and truly is only for the neighborhood folks who drop in for a quick morning coffee to go. I only spied ONE electrical outlet and for me that adds to whether or not it's useful for work or studying. The tables are small rounders, which means there's no room to spread out. There is only one table for a group in the back of the store. And by group I mean 3-4 people, but that's it. I think I counted 5 tables? A group of about EIGHT young women came in and they all had to stand or sit on the floor, except 2. Needless to say it made the space around me really crowded and it got dark because the group blocked the light! Lol, It was a little too chilly to sit outside. So, nothin against the coffee. I just wanted to make sure that people don't show up expecting a large area for work or study. This is not that place. But it's a great shop for the area. read more

I am so ecstatic that the Highland area finally has a coffee shop. I felt like that was the only thing missing in such a quaint, dog-friendly community. The baristas are friendly, and the shop is cozy with coffee, tea, and souvenir items for sale. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the dark roast of the day, Tanzania Peaberry, and my boyfriend got the regular roast of the day (I don't recall the name) and a slice of strawberry cake. I'm a die-had fan of the Edgar's Bakery strawberry cake, but this one is sitting up top on that list with Edgar's now! Give it a try. The dark roast was perfection in my book- I love my coffee strong and black. I'm thinking about trying a few more roasts before committing to buying myself my own bag of Tanzania though. I love that, since having a friend who lives right around the corner, taking a stroll to grab a cup of coffee there is an enjoyable start to a day. My go-to place for coffee in the Highland park area. Staff has always been super friendly, prompt and great at making their coffee and espresso drinks. Assortment of baked goods includes some day-olds and as well as fresh muffin, scones and cookies. They also have a collection of refrigerated goods, including yogurt and cakes. Interior ambiance is quaint and quiet, perhaps a little bit on the small side but I've seen that to be an issue as it's never particularly crowded. This O'Henry's location is pretty tiny, with tables just on one side of the space. The baristas that helped us were polite and nice young men. Lots of drink options. My 12 ounce decaf coffee set me back $2.51. So not exactly super piggy bank friendly. The sweet treats looked tantalizingly tempting, but I used every last gram of willpower to resist. I'll have to give in another time. Pleasant, homey atmosphere for sitting and chatting with your pals. Bathroom was tidy. If you are not Christian, you may feel a little weird upon seeing Bible Bars at the counter and a cross on the wall. The coffee scents must really be strong! I can always count on a good experience at this O Henrys. Besides their muffins being so popular and good that they sell out fast sometimes that would be the only complaint you will have from me. Taylor is my favorite staff member of this location. She is always very nice,customer oriented,and explains things without having to ask. All of the staff have been very helpful and every single time they need to re-brew something they don't make it seem like a burden. They are happy to help and want you to have good coffee. I'm giving this place 3 stars solely on the drip coffee (I mean it's a coffee shop right?) It's not the best coffee. It's not very flavorful and the "dark" roast is very light. They have about 30 kinds behind the bar for you to grind and take home but I don't know if they would be any better based on what I tasted. oh, ohenrys. i would like to start off by saying, if i could have a candle that smells like anything i would want it to smell like ohenrys. the moment you walk in the aroma of freshly brewed coffee hits you and it truly is magical. there is nothing quite like a good cup of coffee and ohenrys has perfected this. the employees' interactions are so welcoming and the coffee never ever has disappointed me. particularly the highland park location has become my favorite due to the surrounding atmosphere which is ideal especially in the fall. moral of the story, i love ohenrys and hope the world can experience ohenrys and love it as much as i do. read more

I love coming here in the mornings to do my homework. They change the daily coffees consistently, so I always have something new to try. The space is a little small, so if there are a lot of people, you may not be able to find suitable seating. I would give this place 5 stars, but the wifi can be a little finicky, which is disappointing for a coffee/study place. On the bright side, the coffee is always amazing. I like to take my coffee with just a little bit of milk and nothing else so the flavor of the bean is extremely important to me.
