Great food, Domingo is always great with customers. However, this week I've noticed he's not around. The two new waitresses are ok, however they need to be mindful of how they great customers. Specially the one that's shorter. She's so good at moving around and it's always busy, but she can't transfer her anxiety on to a new customer. I was sitting waiting to order when she passed by me and snatched the menu from the table without asking if I had already ordered or anything. I said "hey I'm sorry" and she responded "oh did you order?" As she moved away towards the counter. I said "well, I need...." and she turned around to take care of other orders. I was left with my hands up in mid air with half a sentence. I was about to leave when the other waitress said "did she take it?" Then my order came and it was the wrong one. This place is so good, it keeps getting bussier and bussier. Perhaps they need an extra person for those busy hours. This morning I had to go to another place after all this mess....it happens. Customer service is beyond exceptional. Wow - is all I can say honestly. I went in to pick up a cake for my boyfriends birthday and got tres leches. I thought I got the wrong cake when I had gotten home and cut into it - just vanilla. I went in the next day and told them. Immediately the woman took my cake back - the owner came out to tell me he appreciated my business and I could have the money back as credit. ALSO the salad w green chicken is life changing. Good food. Nice workers. Finding parking isn't difficult. The area is okay. Their bakery items are nice to the eyes. Pretty food. The regular meal items like rice and beans are yummy. Their empanadas are yummy, too. The baked empanadas are good, though it has more bread than filling. This is a great place to grab a quick and delicious bite to eat! I love their arepas and ropa vieja empanadas. Try the arepa with scrambled eggs, Muenster cheese and pernil - magnificent!! Just be sure to try the 'green sauce'. You will not be disappointed. The desserts are decadent as well...personal fave is the tres leches cake. Yum! I moved away from kearny and the only thing I miss is this place. Grilled chicken sandwich or wraps are of this world. Scratch that, any sandwich or wrap is amazing here! I had the best desserts here...mmmm coconut lime cake ..you had it? No?! Go try it! Life changing! Now I know why I lost weight from moving from kearny. My new town had nothing close to domingos.nothing ! And I have my siblings asking me when we will go. I love the owners. Great family run place. They are so kind. I have to update my review on this place. I really did enjoy it the first few times I went but I'm going to have to give it 3 stars now. I still think the papa rellana is delicious and also the pastries. I got a ropa vieja empanada and it was almost empty with no meat. The flavor was just okay. They could of added more meat because it was literally not even a spoonful. They were very cold too. Also, this is the kind of place where if they know someone, they will take their order before you even if you were there first. Stopped by here for lunch and got a cheese empanada, a tuna sandwich, a Cuban sandwich, and a chicken and cheese cachapa. The sandwiches were standard but delicious nonetheless and the cachapa was super flavorful. My complaint is that the empanada was so underwhelming. It was cold and the cheese inside has turned to rubber. I will not order anymore until they start frying them fresh. The service is great. Domingo made it insanely clear that he cared about this bakery. He makes the place and just from the short interaction, I know that he is a great person who will work hard to see that this bakery is successful. The pastries also look awesome. Takeaway: I do not recommend this establishment because they sneak in charges on your bill believing their customers won't notice, don't take accountability for it, and have poor customer service skills to handle the situation. I have eaten here three times, taken out once, and even bought a flan from this bakery over the past year. I have noticed little charges on my final bill...an extra $1 here, an extra $1 there and didn't make a big deal about it because it's only a dollar, right? Plus I thought, maybe I didn't read the menu right. When I bought the flan one year for a birthday, the guy that packed it for me told me it was one price. So I let him ring it up and when I looked at the receipt it was $3 more than he told me. Had no idea why but since it was wrapped up and I needed to go, I didn't say anything. Fast forward to the present, I came here to dine with my family of 5. While my dining experience was fine, it was the interaction I had with Domingos management afterwards, that turned me off from ever coming here again. My mother realized after she had paid the bill that they had charged us incorrectly on some dishes we ordered. She realized this shortly after we left the restaurant. Remembering my own experience, I decided to take action because it was clear to me now that they have a pattern of deceptive charging. You see, if you don't speak up because you think, 'oh the amount is so insignificant', you just enable these businesses to do whatever they please and suddenly $1 is now $5 is now $10 and so on. I compared our bill items with their take home menu and realized there was no justification for the extra charges. I called them and asked to speak to a manager. I got the owner's wife who told me she was very busy and asked if she could call me back. She asked me what exactly I had been mischarged for and as I began to go through it she told me she was updating her prices and getting new menus. I said, that's nice but you have to charge me according to the menu I was given. She said hold on, let me review it... and then proceeded to hang up on me. That pissed me off. In fact, that just proved her mischarging guiltiness to me. I went back to the bakery and spoke to the owner's wife in person. I said, are you the woman that hung up on me? She said oh no, I said I would call you back. How were you going to call me back when you didn't even ask me for my name or number??? I show her my receipt with the items in question circled. An extra $1 for juice (their explanation was that it was a LARGE juice...I said we were not asked what size we wanted, your menu clearly states it's only one size & one price for the OJ) an extra $1.50 for a dish that came with meat (the menu stated we could substitute it with another meat and it was one flat price, so we did, but were still charged extra). An extra $2 for avocado (the menu photo of the dish had avocado in it, the waitress asked do you want avocado? my mother said, doesn't it come with avocado? Waitress says YES, but I ask b/c some people don't want the avocado. Furthermore, there was no line item as to the avocado being extra or how much it cost.), etc. The woman had no justifiable explanation and actually seemed nervous trying to defend her deceptive charges. Here's the thing: don't tell me your prices on your computer are different from your menu. Don't also try to justify these imaginary charges and then have an attitude like, oh well what's done is done, you should have brought this up to me while you were dining. Or blame it on your waitress for failing to tell me about your hidden charges. Or tell me the prices include TAX when there's clearly a separate line item for sales tax. Are you kidding me? She was clearly trying to think of something, anything! This women's lack of customer service skills was shocking. She insinuated I was being disrespectful and I said ME? Because I was firm in my stance? Because by finding these errors, I was calling you out on your deception? No nasty words had been exchanged. If anything, I am the one who feels disrespected. As a customer, I give you my business and this is how you treat me? Finally and with hesitation, she gave me back the money owed to me via cash out of the register and not via the credit card which is how we paid. I made the mistake of trusting the staff and their billing and not doing my due diligence of checking my bill before I signed off on it. And of not speaking up in the past when I noticed I was being incorrectly charged. Domingos - is it too much to ask that your menu be reflective of your true pricing? I hope that your "new" menus are updated correctly. Also, we were in your bakery to review cakes for an upcoming birthday hoping to order from you and even looked at a cake/dessert book for some ideas...NO.THANKS. I'll take my business elsewhere. I have ordered from here on UberEats and all I can say is that the food is absolutely delicious! The sandwiches are great, especially since they have portuguese rolls. The desserts are delicious, I even got one for free since I ordered for delivery. They are very good with specific orders. I didnt want my acai bowls to be too sweet, since I have high blood sugar.
