They are open for takeout currently (or at least they were a couple weeks ago). I had never been before but upon the urging of some friends I gave it a shot. I thought the sandwich was pretty good, but man it costs waaaay too much. Its bread, meat, and cheese, on a relatively small piece of bread. When I saw it was $14 or whatever for a sandwich I figured it would be the kind of thing where you could just load it up with whatever you wanted, but it isn't. They could put half as much meat and still have a really hearty sandwich. They could take that savings and hook a brother up with some lettuce and onions. Went here for lunch and immediately when you walk in, you are greeted to the aroma of freshly popped popcorn. The restaurant still has that vintage feel to it, where you know the place has been around for a while. The greeter got us seated very quickly and our server was there immediately with a bowl of popcorn and a smile! We were on a time crunch, but we didn't say anything to the server about being in a hurry. That said, the order was brought out very promptly, even with the busy lunch hour and bustling foot traffic coming in. We even had time to spare because of how efficient the restaurant was. Now I have only been here once, so it must have been a day where they were on top of things, but if their service is always like this, I am a fan. Now to the food: The sandwiches are huge! As the server put it, they are a "meat and cheese" only type store, with no vegetables or any extra stuff in the sandwich. They definitely showcase the meat in their sandwiches. I recommend the roast beef, which is done in-house and very flavorful. The regular size sandwich is large enough to split with someone for lunch, yet not crazy huge where you can still eat the whole thing by yourself if you wanted. I had the Roast Beef sandwich. On French bread. The bread was cut think and was really fresh the roast beef was cooked just right and full of flavor. And they serve it with a bowl of popcorn. I got the small but it was really too big. I ate half of it and brought the rest home for my husband. They have in house mustard sauce on the table that is really really good. The only thing is because of the freshness of the bread it didn't hold up. Maybe they should toast the bread. But over all a great place to eat. read more

If you stop by Domini's, you'd better like meat, because it comprises 90% of the sammich you're getting. The other 10% is optional bread, cheese, and maybe a dab of mayo/mustard and That. Is. All. Period. Sandwich complete. Now, this is definitely a polarizing style of sandwich, and I can totally understand why people would want to mow down a big mound of meat. I LOVE meat. I'm a bona fide meatatarian myself. Here's the thing though - I just don't think the formula works for a sandwich. All of Domini's ingredients are grade A, super high quality, straight up delicious goodies; however, a sandwich needs balance, it needs harmony, and their sandwiches simply don't provide any of that. I've always found them to be pretty boring and dry despite the quality ingredients. You will never leave Domini's hungry, but if you're like me and think a sandwich requires more than a huge ball of meat in between some token cheese and bread, you probably won't leave here truly satisfied. 3 stars because I respect their game - it's a Spokane institution, the service is friendly and good, their joint has a nice laid back vibe, and they give you free popcorn with your meal. read more

Talk about a lot of MEAT!! Domini Sandwich Shop has been doing it big in downtown Spokane for a long time. I think I counted 17 straight Inland Empire best sandwich awards! Known for New York style, incredibly meaty sandwiches, cheese and mayo/mustard...ONLY!! I kept thinking this could either be very good, or terrible...but nothing in between. Thankfully, I love ham and they had very moist and sweet ham as well as some fantastic spicy honey mustard to compliment it. Add some sourdough bed and it's nap time! We have been eating at Domini for the last 20+ years and have always had phenomenal service until now. Granted this pandemic has put a spin on everything but to halt call in and walk up orders and then run out of all bread except wheat 1 1/2 hours after you are open is just not being prepared for everyday demand. Spokane is behind small business and locally family owned and operated businesses. There were months to prepare and there was certainly enough time to develop a plan on how to satisfy customer demand with what we are all currently dealing with as many others had to do. If you're looking for giant, fresh sandwiches, Domini is the place to go! The inside of this place looks exactly how you'd picture it. I felt like I was in some old school New York sandwich shop. Their bread is so soft and fluffy it is made of clouds. My husband loves the dark rye bread. I got my roast beef on French and it was practically and entire loaf of French bread to myself. Not to mention close to a pound of meat on the sandwich. The service was great, you get free popcorn. When we left our waitress packed us up some to-go bags of popcorn. I admit it - I just don't get it. Thick bread, a pile of meat and a couple of condiment choices - in other words a rather sparse sandwich joint with IMHO sky high prices. ($ 9 for a small sandwich) The ambiance is nothing to write home about it appears circa 1970 as does their menu without much change since then. The staff is running all over the place serving a $hitload of customers so service is pretty mediocre during their busy periods. The actual bread is good but the meat and cheese just average quality and since plain sandwiches meat, cheese bread and condiment doesn't do much for me I really don't get this place. With a later than normal lunchtime, my family and I were starving. Seeking something hearty that would fill the void the hubby and I agreed that Dominis was the perfect fit. This was our very first sit down experience here and it was perfect. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. Our neighbors in the booth behind us were so sweet and kind to our kiddos. It turns out that couple drove from our same north side neighborhood to have lunch downtown at the same spot. Dominis stands out like that and brings people from all over town. First of all, let me say that I used to drive from Seattle to visit Domini's and Hudson's Hamburgers because I loved them so much. I still go to them quite often now that I live in Spokane. But,... on my most recent visit I was rather disappointed and I'm not sure when I will be back. Here is the reason. Due to the rising costs, Domini's is no longer offering Havarti as a cheese option for their sandwiches. That is too bad since it is just one of the things that made them unique. Well, since they didn't have one of my favorites anymore I decided not to order a sandwich and just have a few bites of my girlfriends sandwich. I thought no big deal when the waitress asked if we will be sharing, but I was wrong. I guess by sharing we were charged for two Half-sandwiches instead of a Full-sandwich. This was odd because I asked for one Full-sandwich. I assume by sharing, which was indicated as a "split" on our bill they decided to charge us for two. I discussed it at the counter with one of the owners but I guess it wasn't valid enough to matter. I'll still rate Domini's with three stars because I'm a sucker for "old school" food establishments but it looks like they got the best of me today. The meat is high quality and the place is super unique (if not a little divey). It's located downtown across from the bus plaza in an old bar. You can even cozy up on a barstool and grab a cold one with your friend- the meatiest sandwich in town. It's a favorite of local businessmen and all those who are HUNGRY. They used to be cash only but now take debit and credit payments. The small is the equivallent of a Chipotle burrito---so if you eat like a bird go ahead and get the tiny. Very fond memories of the elegance of simple, well-crafted sandwiches and the aroma of fresh popcorn. Small roast beef and pepperoni with Cheddar on French - dry. I lived on these (and want one now!) Small is big enough-trust. They are very generous. Donini's does very few choices - what they do do is exceptional. No fancy sprouts and goat cheese here. I've been coming to Domini's since I moved here in 1980, and it's still my favorite sandwich in town. As everyone else says here on Yelp, it's just simple meat and cheese sandwiches. Nothing fancy, but with huge portions piled on great fresh breads. I recommend popcorn on the side. Lately I've been ordering a large sandwich, but getting half of it wrapped to go. Half of a large is more than enough for a meal, and I end up getting two meals out of every visit. My only criticism is that their prices have gone up a bit the last few years, but as far as I'm concerned, the meal is still well worth the price. Tip: Bring cash.
