Simply perfection - Dominick's isn't just a restaurant- It's a Bronx institution and absolute masterclass in Authentic Italian dining - I have been coming here for over 30 years and never fails to feel like home! Food: Linguini with white clam sauce was acceptable, nothing to write home about. Broccoli Rabe with Sausage the same. Good, but have had much better. Chicken rollatini, terrible. Chicken was dried out like it had been sitting around for a long time, and stuffing was ...well...unidentified. Not sure what it was. Service was poor. All the waiters serve all the tables so no one seems to have a handle on what's going on. We ordered appetizer and mains and 10 minutes later another waiter asked if we had ordered. That waiter came back 3 times total to ask if we had ordered, even after we finished appetizers. We had some classic Italian American food here. The eggplant rollatini were buttery and cheesy, and the ravioli and vodka sauce was also tasty. Both sauces were pretty round and cooked down. The portions were more than enough for two people. The restaurant feels pretty old school with booths and communal tables. The meal worked out to $50 with tax and tip. Very crowded which is a good sign! The staff is very friendly and we had amazing service. Full menu and specials, but only some items are available on certain days of the week. The first level has ample seating and a bar. Huge upstairs with more tables and another bar! The salad was dressed well and simple. The eggplant was delicious .. a huge platter enough to share. The good - the antipasta plate, the bread, house merlot was nice. However - Dominicks was at one time a great place to eat in our past visits to NYBG and Arthur Ave. This time the main courses were weak examples of Italian family restaurant - I had ziti with broccoli rabe and sausage. This bowl had a lot of water/broth - like a cup in the bottom that was low in flavor - no great garlic/olive oil just lack luster the Rabe was flavorless and the sausage dry not at all juicy or well seasoned. The baked ziti was just regular ziti + sauce with some melted mozzerella - it was not baked (like a casserole). I think we're giving up on Dominicks. read more

This is a great place to come and taste the neighborhood. My boyfriend and I shared an order of chicken parm and an order of linguine with shrimp. Can't go wrong with this combo! Ordered seven dishes here and they were all awful. Quantity over quality seems to be their motto here. Not worth taking leftovers. 1. They don't serve half their menu on Sundays. 2. Broccoli rabe was like a watery pasta soup 3. Garlic ziti was a greasy mess with a pool of oil 4. Dry ricotta in the stuffed shells 5. Marinara tasted like it came straight out of a jar 6. Lasagna meat looked and tasted like cat food?? Flat, chunky, and spongey. The only edible part was the cheese on top. Service was fine, we were seated pretty quickly for a large group and got water refills frequently. Dominick's is a whole experience! It is family style dining...you will be seated with others. You can check out their food, lol! They finally have a menu and the food is large enough for one person (you will take a doggie bag) or 2 people, there is also a menu on the blackboard at the back but if there is something you want and don't see you can always ask! The first thing to know is that they only take CASH! Make sure you have enough...there is always an ATM in the area! They also don't serve butter with their warm bread...only olive oil! The food is always delicious...worth a trip just for the food, however, a trip to NYBG or Bronx Zoo kills 2 birds! There is limited gluten free items but they will suggest if asked. We had a salad to share which was very good. There were some chicken dishes and pasta with broccoli rabe. I would say any pasta dish is amazing (I am a vegetarian). The other thing to be aware of is that the waiter checks with the guy at the bar for how much to charge and you don't get a breakdown of the bill! It is reasonable though...Enjoy the experience! Cash only! Sundays no white sauce?! Ambiance (4/5): We came in around 5pm on a Sunday and was surprised that the first floor was about a third full. The bathrooms are located up the stairs and the whole establishment is huge! Service (4/5): There are plenty of wait staff to table ratio so service is very attentive and quick. The only time is when they have their backs to you while they are conversing with each other! Food (2/5): I found the food extremely underwhelming and overpriced for what we got. Stuffed clams: All the other tables were ordering it so we followed the suit. The clams were not washed out enough and had sand in 2 of the 3 that I ate. Additionally, it was overcooked that it was a bit hard to chew. The actual meat sizes were large! Chicken Marsala: Way too much wine in the sauce. However the chicken pieces were very tender. Mushrooms soaked the sauce. Rivoli: The pieces were gigantic. However, I'm not a fan of their red sauce, which is very tomato forward and not very thick, and too sour for my taste. One of many Arthur Anderson Ave Italian restaurants in the original Little Italy in North Bronx. First time visiting and it was a winner. For appetizers, we ordered stuffed artichokes and stuffed clams. The artichoke was okay, but the clams were delicious! We also ordered linguini and clams, chicken parmesan over linguine, and a side order of meatballs (2 for $6). The chicken parmesan, linguini, and meatballs were all great. One of my two companions would not share the linguini and clams, but he gave it 5 stars and did not leave a bite behind. The ambiance is old-school Italian with shared rows of tables covered with thick burgundy vinyl tablecloths. There are many tables of 6 and 8, so if you want to eat at your own table you can visit with a group. We were a party of 3, so our table was pushed together with a party of 4, but it was fine. Each party had their own bread, condiments, etc. We were so hungry that we did not spare time to take pictures of our food! But it looked good and tasted good. I will take more pictures next time.:) We did not try dessert, because we visited for lunch. All of the above plus two glasses of Pellegrino totaled $100 for 3 people. Very reasonable. Well we would run up and down the street while my parents stood in line! 40 years later I still go to Dominicks when I visit NY. The staff really makes you feel like family. That's crazy it was 14 years ago that I was here, but the place hasn't changed inside at all, and I ordered the right thing this time. Word of caution- if you go upstairs to the restrooms, make sure you use the right door to get back downstairs to the dining area. I used a wrong door and the stairs took me out to an alleyway. When I went to go back in the door it was locked! So I was trapped inside a small box-like alley area and the only way I got out was some lady, who luckily didn't think I was an intruder, was leaving through her fire-escape like staircase and she showed me where there was a tiny alley to get out. I felt like I was back lost in Italy. That secret passage led me back out to the main street and 25 mins later I reappeared, though nobody even missed me. After that fiasco I ordered some wine. Which I usually don't because I'm cheap. But it was SO good we had 3 glasses. I knew it had to be homemade and the waiter said it was. 45 bucks a bottle to bring home and drink myself silly. A million times better then the sulfite filled junk they sell in the store. 5 stars for that wine And 5 stars for the chicken marsala. I think they must make their own marsala wine too because it is so hard to find a chicken marsala that actually tastes as it should and this was so on point, plus the chicken was tender and not terrible quality as I often get. The chicken parm dish was huge and pretty average. Broccoli rabe very good with a strong garlic flavor. The pasta with meat sauce-- I think they forgot to drain the pasta. So watery and also salty. Not al dente, more like mush. A big Skip. Cash only. Hopefully this review saves someone from getting stuck in a creepy alleyway! read more

To be fair i was also really not craving italian but holy this was so bad i am so so sorry... I have no clue how or why this place has 4 STARS ON YELP and there were customers coming out RAVING ab it. Place was PACKEDDDDD at 5:30pm on a weekend (fair), we waited for around 20-30 minutes and then got seated. The inside of the restaurant is homey and gives (seemingly) authentic Italian family owned vibes. They gave us bread and olive oil (my favorite part of the meal was the bread). Then they FORGOT TO GIVE US MENUS until they asked us for our orders and we were like wot we don't even have menus. Menu items are not diverse despite being a seemingly long menu (they have like a 416261 linguini items and 37272 ziti items, that probably all taste similar). Food came out after a long time (around 7pm)... and lowkey most of their stuff made me want to gag bc i'm dramatic. Ziti literally had no sauce or flavoring, it was LITERALLY just pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage, and this was my favorite lmfao (+ the salad). The veal parmigiana was okay but tomato sauce was so watery and flavorless, and the veal was just so soggy, I couldn't really even tell what meat it was. White sauce linguini was just wet with what looks like chewed-up clams. When the meal was finished, we learned that THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH and to make it even worse / seemingly more suspicious THEY DIDNT GIVE US AN ITEMIZED RECEIPT LIKE WE JUST THREW MONEY AT THEM after they came up to us and literally just said to us "your total is $320" and we were too tired to argue. Also, we thought we ordered individual-size dishes to share but we told them we were sharing so please give us sharing plates and then they gave us FATTT family sized portions that were definitely more expensive that were not priced on the menu (miscommunication but also wtf). Despite sharing with a BIG group, we paid $40+ each... for the most mid, debatably worst italian food I've had.... I felt so gaslit the entire time bc of the other reviews and the fact that I literally heard customers coming out the door and telling us the food was worth the wait... maybe it's just a culture diff?????? Would give this a 4.5 if I could! They are CASH ONLY. Truly homey comfort Italian food with huge portions. The complimentary bread is crusty on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Their house Merlot was also delicious - a little sweet with some body. Baked clams 5/5: comes with 12 so plenty to share. Clams themselves were large and perfectly mixed with the breadcrumbs. Stuffed artichoke 5/5: mixed with some sort of sausage or meat that makes it delicious. Also lots of sauce to dip the bread into. Veal Sorrentino 5/5: thin veal layered with prosciutto, eggplant and mozzarella. Everything was the perfect portion, tender and super tasty! Linguine alla Gianni 5/5: MUST GET. Light and flavorful and loaded with chopped shrimp and clams. Couldn't get enough of the sauce to soak up the bread! Fettuccine alla Dominick's 4/5: Fettuccine alfredo with mushrooms and pancetta. I'm sure alfredo lovers would love this but it's just too rich and heavy for me. Tasty and full of flavor though. Meatballs 4/5: large and packed with meat but could have been more tender. The service here was also incredible. Our waiter was attentive even though we were one of two parties upstairs and gave us two half loaves of fresh bread with our leftovers. Just WOW! Wonderful lunch here yesterday. Our appetizers and entrees were perfectly cooked, had great flavor and good portion sizes. What blew me away were the baked clams oreganata and linguine with white clam sauce. Until this meal no restaurant has been able to replicate what my parents made. The baked clams were tender, with a garlicky herby breadcrumb crust. The pasta dish had a lot of tender clams with a rich broth. So many thanks to the chef for.that!! My daughter had the fried calamari which were tender with a yummy tomato sauce on the side. Hubby had Chicken Parmigiana which was an enormous portion and he just kept repeating how tender the chicken was. It was on a bed of linguine and he noted it was perfectly al dente. OK. Maybe I should have had something other than Eggplant Parmesian. I did ask the waiter if he thought it was good, and maybe he was being honest, and I asked him to add extra cheese... I don't know... my buddy got Chicken Parm, the cheese was the same on both, and both plates were unremarkable. If portion is what you're looking for, then HELL YES, this is the place for you. But I went to this place expecting quality, foremost. With sodas, the meal cost us $70 (before tip). I know the cost of everything is going up, but damn... I was definitely disappointed. Still though, I ate the top layer of Eggplant with the cheese and took the rest home, added more mozzarella and fed the leftovers to my daughter, who said, "Daddy... for realz? I can't eat this. Lovely service at a true family-owned feeling restaurant. They sat us down promptly on a busy Saturday. They give a complementary bread, which was enough to feed a family a four, but I wouldn't call the quality of it highly remarkable. To eat we had: Ziti with broccoli - pretty bland and sitting in a puddle of watery sauce. They did switch the brocolli rabe for broccoli for me so I appreciate that! Chicken rollatini - this was very nice I enjoyed the flavors and found the chicken to be juicy. Sauce was also great, used some of that loaf of bread they gave us to soak it up. Traditional Italian restaurant in the heart of the Bronx's Little Italy, some believe this is one of the best of its kind in the city. The several times I've been I'd be hard pressed to argue the point, the food here is really, really good. I think the key is that they keep things simple, use good quality and fresh ingredients good oil, good tomatoes, fresh produce, good quality meat. And then pay attention and prepare the food well, you can kinda taste the attention to detail. And the bread there, marrone, i dont know where they get it, but its absolutely superb, rustic and crusty on the outside, soft and billowy inside. Big, generous, family style, hefty portions, but like i say, prepared with some degree of finesse. Excellent variety, all flavorful, all delicious, you really cant go wrong and you dont leave hungry. Not a huge dining area, but comfortable seating, and gracious, courteous service, the owner himself often goes out of his way to personally greet and accomodate customers old and new. The worst Italian food I have ever had. Every single dish except for the meatballs and spaghetti was waterlogged: the chicken scarpariello was boiled chicken coated with some sort of watery lemon sauce, the veal piccata was pale and tasteless, the stuffed artichoke which was a highway robbery at $20, was also dripping with water and soggy and tasteless. Obviously this restaurant wants everything ready to go in 10 minutes and so it's all parboiled and then coated with something or other. Get the customers in and then get them out as fast as possible. Repulsive. Additionally, there were three men sitting at the front table near the bar, drinking and making comments sometimes out loud about the people walking in. They were like a chorus of criticism and superiority. Finally, the decor itself is absolutely basic and truthfully, not very clean. Walking up the steps to the bathroom one could tell that those steps have not been mopped, never mind swept , in months. Dominick's is skating on some sort of reputation that they don't deserve. Maybe a whole bunch of tourists who don't know from good Italian food gave them four or five stars. read more

The best Italian food in the area! This is the only place I would consider taking a real Italian to. My family has been coming to Dominick's for over 30 years, and the food quality has never dipped once. We are friendly with most of the servers and always find something to chat about with them. The ambiance used to be more bare-bones years ago. They spruced it up with pictures on the wall and other decorations sometime in the 2000s. Otherwise, this is the same wonderful restaurant we have always cherished. We have brought all of our friends and family here. My favorite dishes are fish francese, veal francese, chicken scarpariello, seafood salad, seafood pasta, stuffed artichoke, and chicken cacciatore. The olive oil they serve with the free bread in the beginning is also above average. read more
