My car was towed from directly in front of my house on Thanksgiving night after being parked for only a short time while unloading luggage. When I went to pick it up, the front desk actually said "thank you for your business, come again," which felt extremely unprofessional and sarcastic given the situation. The spot they towed from is a wide "fire lane" that's easily big enough for two cars to pass, and in all the time I've lived here I've never seen a fire truck use it. They towed me for the "charge" of "Park and Walk." More on that in a minute. What was the value of their services? Answer: Enduring being fined and injured by them. What was the quality of their services? Scratches to my car, and items missing from the interior of the car. At Potomac Yard Shopping Center is an adjoining government building with a parking lot that abuts the Target parking lot. I knew not to park there, because I've seem the tow-turds grabbing cars from that location. What I did not know was that you can park in Potomac Yard Shopping Center's parking lot, and, if you walk to any of the nearby and visible businesses that are not connected to the shopping center, you can be towed, even if you've just patronized the shopping center's stores. That is what is referred to as a charge of "Park and Walk." This is a jazzed up charge, made to be the equivalent of commuter drivers using the lot -- and it isn't remotely something worthy of the harassment of shoppers. I had frequented other businesses in the shopping center that morning, and had receipts to prove it. I had a car full of groceries, ruined when the car was towed away to an impound lot far away on the other side of the city. What were the details of my sin? The south end of the shopping center's parking lot has a wide swath of parking spaces, with no visible signs listing any warnings. You can pull in, look to the left and the right, and see nothing warning you that you risk towing if you walk to adjoining businesses. Upon searching later for a sign in this large expanse, I did find one -- very far from the space I occupied, hidden in a tree's branches. It read "Walk-Off Parkers will be Towed." But how would anyone know what the term "Walk-Off Parkers" means? And how, if you've been shopping in stores in the shopping center, does entering an adjoining business for five minutes suddenly become trespassing when almost no signage is posted? I walked thirty steps to the Giant Food Store on the south perimeter of the shopping center, to buy a box of cake mix. Technically, I'd left the shopping center's property, and when I returned ten minutes later, the greasy shxts had swooped in and grabbed my car. Any knuckle-dragging primate should have had no problem seeing the bags of perishable groceries in the car, thus discerning that no one had "left the premises" for more than a few minutes. I took my shopping center store receipts to the impound lot, to show that I'd been shopping in the shopping center. They gouged me anyway. The car also had scratches and items missing from the interior, all dismissed summarily, when they pointed to a sign that reads: "Not responsible for damages or missing items." This is just a lot of "gotcha cause we can getcha" slime-covered evilness. They've set a lair, a trap, to grab some of the people who are shopping in Potomac Yard Shopping Center, and rip them off, not to mention wreck their schedules. There was no reason to rip me off, after I made it clear with receipts that I'd been visiting the stores in the shopping center. It is all a slick con job, perpetrated by turds. Was at a Potomac Yard shopping center to do grocery shopping with my brother. We parked in the parking lot between the Target and the Giant. After shopping in Target we put our bags away and walked to Giant. We were in Giant for less than 20 minutes and this company towed my brother's car. We have done this multiple times and always have seen other people doing the same. Like today, 2 other set of people did the same at the exact same time. We assumed his car was stolen because we never considered that we were parked in violation. We were told the company was watching us and as soon as we walked away they came to tow. Apparently if you are shopping at the Giant ( which is only steps away) you are no longer considered a customer for that parking lot. A ridiculously rule, but that's fine. Horrible, horrible, horrible. This is not the first time I've been towed but at least in the past I knew exactly why I got towed and I didn't feel like something illegal was being done to me. This company is more like a thief in the night and must give kickbacks to the apartment communities that hire them. They prey on people. My car was parked in visitor parking, there was a bright sign behind a set of parking spaces labeled "Visitor Parking" and it was also labeled/marked in the individual parking spaces. However, some genius (probably from Dominion) spray painted every letter in "Visitor" in black over the white writing and expects people to now think that because it's highlighted in black that it automatically means "Reserved" parking now?? It would make more sense to just re-paint the new label as "Reserved" or maybe even spray paint it, if your true intention is to let people know that this is now a reserved parking space. Especially since literally 10 feet away there are Reserved parking spaces that are individually labeled/marked..ding ding ding - "Reserved." But these people are swindlers and con artists getting away with what should be larceny. They are too shady and dishonest to have discretion and shouldn't be allowed to make any type of judgement call about whether or not a car should get towed. It's a total con game. I won't even get into the racial undertones and slurs thrown at me when I went to get my car back. I will be reporting this company to the apartment complex and to the Better Business Bureau.
