All I taste is sodium. The crust is greasy and overly baked. The sauce is sparce and salty. Mass production replaces quality.

Something must have happened lately. Last night, my husband and I went there for our weekly date night. We were excited to enjoy some wine and good Italian food. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. None of the waitresses smiled or greeted us warmly. Instead, we felt like an inconvenience rather than valued customers. The waitress came to our table with no smile or greeting and immediately asked what we wanted to drink. My husband ordered a half carafe of red wine, and she brought only one wine glass. It seemed odd, as if it was assumed I would need to order my own wine rather than share with my husband. I ordered the Pasta Calamari, and my husband ordered a large two-topping pizza. A few minutes later, she brought my salad and only one plate for the pizza, as if my husband and I were two separate parties rather than a couple dining together. As we waited, we noticed that two other tables that were seated after us received their food before us. After 1 hour and 15 minutes, we still had no food, no bread that should have come with my entrée, and no updates from the waitress about our order. Finally, my husband got the waitress's attention and asked about the bread. She said they hadn't made it yet but would bring it later. She also told us that an 18-inch pizza is not easy to make and that was why other people were getting their pizzas before us. Later, the manager came over and told us that he dropped our pizza, and it had to be remade. The problem wasn't just the delay--it was the complete lack of communication. Our waitress never updated us, never checked on our order, did not bring hot bread or make our wait any easier, and never seemed concerned about how long we had been waiting. When the food finally arrived, so did the bread and my Pasta Calamari. By then, we had lost our appetite. The pasta with red sauce was not visually appealing, and there was very little visible calamari. We decided to leave disappointed. Compared to our previous visits, the prices have increased noticeably, while the food quality, service, and overall atmosphere have declined. It felt like a completely different restaurant from the one we used to enjoy. Sadly, this sounds like what happens when owners stop focusing on good service and quality food. Restaurants that go down this path often end up closing. It is very sad because this used to be one of our favorite places.

We started with a plate of garlic knots with red sauce, which disappeared faster than we would have liked. My husband and I split a house salad, which was good but unremarkable. We ordered a smaller margherita pizza for our son and a larger Manhattan pizza with pears, arugula, and pepper dews for me and my husband. Both pizza were very good. Both the dough and tomato sauce at Genna are exceptional. The pear base on the Manhattan was a little sweet for my taste, though I eat a mostly sugar-free diet. The pears were balanced out by the spicy-sweet pepper dews, so I would get it again. Our son is a cannoli expert, as he has had homemade cannolis in over a dozen bakeries in New York and New Jersey. He likes the one at Genna best. My husband got a couple glasses of Merlot to go with our pizza, sand I was happy with their large selection of bottled IPAs.

I had the half turkey sub and Greek salad from the reasonably priced lunch menu. Most people would think there wasn't enough turkey on the turkey sub, but for me, it was just enough with nice fresh lettuce and tomato. The sub roll was nicely toasted. The Greek salad I would not really call "Greek." It's basically an iceberg lettuce salad with some feta on it. There is a bottle of homemade dressing on the table for guests to use as needed to dress salads and sandwiches. Hopefully, these are cleaned regularly because the outside of the bottle was a little greasy. My companion had the lunch spaghetti with meat sauce and Greek salad. It included a few pieces of garlic bread, and she said it tasted okay, not great, but okay. The sauce was a little bland. I gave this an "okay" rating because that is what it felt to us both, okay food but nothing amazing. I can imagine they get some good lunch business (we were there later in the afternoon) because you can get a decent meal at a very decent price. We both had leftovers, and our total bill (not including tip) was about $25. If we are in the area again, we might try it again.

Service: We walked in and were told to sit wherever, we wanted outside but it was too dark and the tables were dirty. We decided to sit inside so we could see each other and our food. We waited 10 min for menus and listened to employees argue over whose table we were. NOTE:(I counted between cooks, servers, etc... 11 employees) once we got menus we ordered drinks and food. While ordering pizza we were told that all toppings cost extra. So the advertised price of a pizza was cheese only. Kinda of disappointing to not include a topping or two for that price. We ordered an appetizer that took approx 15-20 min to come out and then the pizza followed shortly after approx. 35 min. We weren't offered drink refills until after our pizza showed up. Once our food came the waitress seemed a little more attentive with drink refills and asking how our food was. But overall the service was disappointing. Food: The appetizer we ordered was deep fried ravioli with marinara. They tasted like they were frozen and the centers were lukewarm. On the plus side I did enjoy the marinara but wished there was more of it. Once the pizza came it was over cooked, lacking toppings and the cheese didn't go all the way to the crust. The dough tasted like it could've been great if not overcooked but I can only go off what I got. I'm sure this place does well with tourists as it's near that area of cocoa beach but my wife and I will not be going back for the above mentioned reasons. It's a shame when you can get better pizza from a chain type place.

Marco's Pizza got its start in Oregon, Ohio back in 1978 and in the decades since, Marco's Pizza has grown to over one thousand locations since then. That in itself is pretty impressive. Think about it, when Marco's Pizza first opened, disco and punk rock were new musical styles and "National Lampoon's Animal House" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" were new movies in the theaters. I bring this up so you can realize how long Marco's Pizza has been around. They definitely have some history. As I said, Marco's Pizza is a national pizza chain and compared to other national pizza chains, Marco's Pizza is definitely enjoyable. If you are craving pizza and you are in the area, I would definitely recommend this particular location of Marco's Pizza. People have been enjoying this pizza back when disco balls were the ambiance in nightclubs and people were laughing at John Belushi was making us laugh and Steven Spielberg had us looking to the heavens in a different way. They have quite a bit of history, so they must be doing something right.
