This place is really special! I can't believe it's been around for 30 years and I just heard about it. Everything on the menu is amazing. Unique flavors you can't get at most restaurants. The space is very authentic to the Japanese countryside eating experience and the gardens are beautiful. They also do a lot of good work in other countries with their proceeds/donations. Most of the negative reviews for Domo seem to be about wait time/service. Everyone was super friendly and we were in and out in under an hour when it was moderately full for an early dinner. read more

Worst service I've ever experienced. They refused to bring soy sauce for their bland food. They refused to bring lemon or ice for water. Food was very bland and boring. The outside is pretty but it smells so that ruins it. The server forgot 2 of our dishes and brought 1 we didn't even order and were charged for all 3. I had to get a manager and he removed the 2 they forgot but still charged us for the 1 we didn't order even though we didn't touch it. Every person working there that we encountered was either rude or indifferent. No smiles, nobody checked in to see if we needed anything. When you ask for something (like soy sauce or lemons or ice), the response is, "the chef won't allow it." Don't waste your time here. There are many great Japanese spots in Denver. read more

I last came here pre-COVID in 2019. It was excellent then and still excellent today. Very authentic Japanese food, and it looks like they are going back to their original menu and simplified things. There's no more ramen, but the choices are still delicious. You get 2 pre-determined sides with each entrée and they simplified it to where each entrée is around $17. You get a lot of food for that amount. They focus a lot on curry, donburi (rice bowls), and udon now. I got to try the sukiyaki beef udon and the pork & cabbage hotpot. Both were great. If you're feeling a rich broth, then go with sukiyaki. The hotpot was a nice, clean, and refreshing dashi miso broth (I liked this one better). The hotpot had an odd rice cake which I would have preferred tofu but this must be more authentic. They provide plenty of ingredients. The Japanese meatball side was yummy, and the noodle dish was light and refreshing. Parking is still very limited, but they've changed their hours to 11am-7pm straight, which is convenient. My friends and I went when it was not busy. I love the fact they are very involved in the community locally and give back worldwide and offer humanitarian support. Domo has grown to be our all time favorite restaurant in Denver! The ambiance, authenticity, friendly service, and amazing food are always so consistent! The chef/owner has made the menu more limited since re-opening from COVID, but I absolutely love it! Less options for me (an indecisive person) to choose from, the better. All entrees are $16.75 + tax which is so worth it especially in today's economy. The portions are huge - you won't need to stop by McDonald's afterwards. Food wise - we ALWAYS order the maguro (tuna) bowl. If we had one last meal on earth, this is the one. Thick slabs of tuna over a bed of rice with a perfect marinade. Also, we tried the beef sukiyaki with udon for the first time, and it did not disappoint! The broth felt like it was made from scratch which is rare these days as some restaurants take the easy way out with using pre-mixed powders. Drinks - we skipped the teas this time, but those are always amazing. My husband had the cup of sake (a special one for the year of the snake), and he really enjoyed it. It didn't have a harsh taste as some sakes do. As of right now, they are open 11 am to 7 pm (closed on Mondays). I know Google says otherwise, but follow them on Facebook for more recent updates. Revisited Domo on a Saturday and it was about a 30 minute wait at 6pm. The front desk and waiters were friendly and my party and I had no complaints. Service was fast and they answered any questions we had. The last time I came the menu was on a single laminated paper, but they now have a flippable menu with appetizers, drinks, and entrees. Almost all of the entrees are priced at $16.75 with two small side dishes. We ordered the karage and takoyaki appetizers and after 3 minutes they arrived at our table piping hot. After 10 minutes we got our main dishes and none of us had a complaint. Everything was delicious and filled us up. The indoor and outdoor design at Domo is amazing. When the weather gets warmer, the outside seating is one of the best experiences there. The greenery and walkable backyard makes it a great spot to take photos if you want to take them. read more

We went here for my daughter's 21st bday dinner before a night of fun in Denver. It was recommended by a good friend, but I was hesitant after seeing Yelp reviews. We waited an hour for a table and then nearly 30 mins for a drink order. They were out of Large Sapporo and Large Kirin, and a bunch of appetizers, and this is at 7pm on a Saturday. Everyone said their Ramen was tasty, but no one in our large group took leftovers home...a bad sign. If you don't eat meat, the veggie gyoza was not a good alternative. This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I have always had a great experience when I go eat. The menu has changed a little over the years but stays consistently good. The ambiance is comfortable and welcoming. The food is outstanding. Sitting inside is an experience as the chairs are cut logs and the tables large stone slabs. The lights are a combination of driftwood and paper mache. It's absolutely unique in its execution. The menu is Japanese country style. You will find wonderful curry dishes served with interesting side dishes included on your tray. Delicious noodle bowls of different sorts. I also love that they don't do special instructions for their food. You get your food the way the chef intends it. You will not be disappointed. Speaking of the chef... He is the owner and an aikido master to boot. There is a dojo on the property to prove it. There is also a small museum that shows a bit about the restaurant and also shows what country life might be like in Japan. This place is an absolute gem in a very unsuspecting part of Denver. Came here on the recommendation of a neighbor with a discerning palate. Glad we got here. Unique for its ambience and menu. For a Tuesday lunch it was pretty busy. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Service was a little slow but they were very busy. We did order Chicken Karage which did not come out. As we were paying our bill we were told it was coming to us in a "to go" box. Last night was the first time I'd been to Domo since before COVID, and like a lot of pre-pandemic things, it was good to be back. This restaurant is a real Denver treasure. I love the atmosphere at Domo- the decor is truly unique, especially the outdoor gardens, which weren't open for dining obviously because it's January. I was chilly anyway during the whole meal because cold air came into the dining room every time the door opened and I didn't dress for that. We had our kids with us last night and although the staff were gracious about their being there, it's not exactly set up for kids. For example, the restaurant only has 1 high chair. Several of the indoor tables were pretty high,so before we moved, the kids couldn't see over the table. Also, silverware for the kids would have been nice. We practice with chopsticks with our 3 year old a home, but he's not proficient yet. Currently they don't have alcohol, which was disappointing since all of the adults in our party would have liked a drink or two. But their hot tea was quite good, especially the hibiscus. It was mildly think and kind of sweet. We started with a variety of appetizers. I especially liked the unagi omelette and the poke bowl. We had to ask several times for side plates, which felt a little strange as we were sharing among a party of seven. Everyone's entrees were excellent. I had the veggie curry and ate every single bite. The only thing to be aware of is that if you don't eat meat, make sure you specify because one of the sides was a delicious chilled and marinated chicken. My husband had the chicken cutlet curry and it was also fantastic. I especially liked the crispy coating on the chicken. We both agreed that well definitely go back, but probably on the summer so we can sit outside. Hopefully they'll be serving alcohol again by then, but if not, I'd do another hibiscus tea. I'm so happy to see that Domo reopened! I came here for the first time years ago and was sad when I saw they had closed as it's one of the most magical restaurants in Denver. It's currently still too cold to sit outdoors, but I highly recommend trying to get a table in the garden area when it warms up. You can still walk around the garden during the winter, though. We did a Sunday walk-in around 1PM and were super happy there was no wait and plenty of tables open - I think Google maps might still say the restaurant is closed on Sundays so maybe that affected the crowd. Service was prompt and very polite, I felt well taken care of the entire time. The menus here change seasonally and it's been a bit limited since they reopened. You can check the Facebook page for Domo to see what's new before you go. We ordered the following to try: 1. Ginger tea - super comforting and slightly sweet tea brewed with fresh ginger, plus it's served in a beautiful bowl 2. Takoyaki - this was just ok, very plain. I wasn't very interested in any of the appetizers but this was a good portion to share among 4 people 3. Nabeyaki udon with pork - this was my entree and it was perfect. So many components in this dish and they were all done well. Broth was light yet savory, and the meat portion was so generous. Can you believe this was less than $20? In this economy?? 4. Curry with rice - this was just ok, I didn't think it was amazing but it was still fine. Loved the huge tender pieces of potato in it though and the portion was massive Overall Domo is still just as magical as I remember it being. My friend has been wanting to go here for a while so we finally went! Since dinner is first come first serve, we went around 5pm to ensure we got a table. Upon walking into the restaurant, you're immersed in the aesthetics and welcoming environment. The host greeted us and walked us over to our table. I love the interior of the restaurant, it seems so authentic and makes me feel like I'm in someone's home instead of a typical restaurant. I was initially surprised with how small the seating is inside but it also make it feel more quaint and nice. The menu offered various options to choose from, it was hard to decide. Lovely authentic atmosphere in an old farmhouse type building. The food was Japanese country style from Northern Japan - a real treat to me as I had never experienced that style. The service was speedy and the food came out piping hot with enough leftovers to take home. There was a beautiful garden to sit in outside. Because the building is old there was no air conditioning but even on the 98 degree day we were there it was warm but tolerable inside. I have never felt more disrespected by a dinning experience than today. Not only did we wait 15 minutes to be brought water and our chopsticks, but when they brought them the waiter accidentally spilled one of the waters and did not come back to pick up the spill lol. We did not get a greeting nothing, not even an I'm sorry for spilling the water on you. Then when she came back but since she didn't have anything to pick up the water I asked her if she could pick it up and she answered "I'm going to take your order and then I'll clean it up". So we had to move over to the seats next to us to avoid getting wet. It took a while to clean up the water even after we did move. We ordered sake, an appetizer and two entrees. The sake never came, neither did the second entree so we just shared the app and the one entree and asked for our check. We waited a good chunk of time compared to other tables who were getting their food much faster. Our waiter did not even come check once the food did come out and did not refill the waters even though they were empty. It's a shame because the food tasted good and the place looked very authentic. But this is not only disrespectful to customers who come here who might be the only chance they get to eat out, but this is very disrespectful to the chefs in the kitchen, the owners of the restaurant and worse of all the Japanese culture. To the Blonde Waitress with the piercings, We initially had a different waiter who was kind and polite. We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees. The food was good and at a reasonable price. However during our meal, I had left to use the restroom and my friend stood up for a minute to look at the beautiful garden in the back. When she returned to the table, the blonde waitress was clearing our food which we had not finished eating. She tried to stop the waitress as she took our food away to which the waitress responded very rudely, "You both left the table. I didn't know if you were coming back." We had our clothes and other items at the table, two half eaten dishes, and we hadn't paid the check yet. There was no reason to think we had left. When I returned from the restroom, I saw our empty table and my friend upset. I spoke to the waitress again, to which she responded in the same way and brought out the check as if to get us to leave. Not only did she not apologize for taking our food and not try to resolve the issue, her terrible attitude completely ruined our meal. We really regret not speaking with her manager, but we're so stunned by her attitude and blatant disrespect,that we just paid the check and left. read more

Sadly, Covid broke a lot of great places to eat and that appears to be the case with DOMO in Denver. Pre-COVID I had taken family and clients to DOMO and it had been a fun an unique experience in Denver. The DOMO that exists now is nothing like the DOMO from back in the day. Came on a Sunday before a Broncos game to have lunch with family and friends and the experience might be the worst restaurant experience I've had in my life. We arrived, DOMO was about half full, 3 large tables available. Our party was a party of 8. The first experience was telling the hostess and him giving a big sigh, absolutely did not want to serve us. After about 15 minutes we were sat and after another 15 or so our waitress came over to take our order. This is where things went from meh service to bad. DOMO is running a hotpot seasonal entree, a few different types of broth and a few different proteins. Most of the table, including my wife who is Korean, ordered some form of the Hotpot and a couple appetizers. Entrees came out first, one at a time, and the waitresses were putting plates to the wrong people (mix ups happen), its fine, so we correct or pass plates around. We receive 7 of 8 entrees, my wife not receiving hers. At this point the we're trying to explain to the waitress that we're missing an entree. There is some mix up between two of the hot pots and another person in out party apparently had my wife's and had taken a few bites before realizing that the order was wrong. Not a big deal, but we're trying to get the 8th entree. The waitress takes one of the entrees from a party member and is going to have the kitchen correct. Then after a few minutes she brings back the entree she took, unfixed, and says that because one or more bites was taken she can't take it back and to get the right entree we'd be double charged. Weird, and not very customer service oriented. But we are trying to explain we're still missing an entree. There are 8 people, 7 entrees. At this point, I think the owner, Gaku Homma, comes out and starts yelling at our table, saying its our fault that the entrees ended up with the wrong people and that he wasn't going to remove any charges. No one at our table had asked to be comped, we never asked to speak to the chef, we're only trying to get our final entree. The owner continues to aggressively talk down to the table and the begins to berate my wife that its "our mistake". Finally, I tell the owner this conversation is over and ask him to leave the table. My wife, feeling discriminated against and verbally abused, leaves the restaurant, won't come back in. We never get the 8th entree. It was the the most shocking restaurant experience I've ever had. I don't know if the owner was having a bad day, really doesn't like Koreans, or something else but to verbally attack a table of patrons in a fairly crowded restaurant is just mind blowing. This new DOMO since Gaku Homma reopened is a shell of its former self. Not only did this situation occur but the food was lackluster, nothing like the old DOMO food. Hotpot and soup broths were bland and watery, meat was over cooked. Food: 2/10 Service: 0/10 - A note about this service. My wife is Korean, my children are half Korean. I don't know if the owner/chef was having a bad day or what, but I would never expose my family to the gross behavior that was presented. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in the Denver area since 2016! So happy they reopened after covid. Since then, they made their menu smaller and the quality of the food is still great. Got curry udon and it was delicious and flavorful. Love all the sides you get with your meal. The portions are massive so you'll have leftovers. Highly recommend getting their takoyaki (not pictured). I love the atmosphere of the Japanese garden so definitely try to site outside. They don't take reservations so try to go during a non-busy time (call ahead!). Their parking lot is a bit small but there should be plenty of street parking. read more

Enjoyed my time! The weather was perfect for patio seating, so that is what I opted for. The decor and ambiance were quite different from anything I had experienced. It was so relaxing, and the servers were nice! As for the food - highly recommend the spicy maguro. I do wish the pieces were cut smaller/ more consistently. Some were really thick! Flavor and freshness were top tier, though. The udon was good, not mind blowing! I didn't enjoy the pieces of pork as they were chewy. The noodles and broth were delicious! My total for both was ~$28 including tax. With all of that being said, I would probably come back again. I would like to try one of their curry dishes next time. Everything finally seemed authentic, and the portions were huge (so much meat in the udon). It actually tasted really good, and the ambiance was super unique.
