This neighborhood spot was on my way home from city park, and an easy stop to make to grab some great sushi! I ordered online, and was able to pick it up about 15 minutes later, which was great. The building has a nice mural on the outside, with a parking lot right next to it, which made parking, and running in, super easy. There is outside seating (that's where most people were since the weather is so nice), and inside seating as well. The people crafting the sushi are front and center when you walk in, which is fun to see/watch. I ordered the sushi deluxe, which comes with 10 pieces of sushi, a California roll, and your choice of soup, or salad (I went miso soup - it was great!) the fish was fresh, and I was very pleased with my dinner. I don't typically write reviews but because I've had a bad experiences the past three times here, I can't help but give a fair warning to others.. I ordered a large takeout order on 3/20 for an early dinner; various plain sushi (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc.) and a few rolls (rainbow and mango). When we got home to eat, the pieces of fish on the sushi were DRY and hard meaning it had to be sitting out for a while or wasn't kept fresh. It had an overly fishy flavor and the cuts were tough to eat. The rice was hard and didn't stick together at all so everything was just falling apart.. Overall a great experience. We ordered a bunch of rolls and we found the specialty rolls were all really good while the standard rolls tended to be pretty standard and probably worth skipping. I make it a habit to order at least one roll that combines sweet and savory and their mango roll hit the spot dead on. My daughter loves rolls with eel and the eel was cooked to our liking. Wanted to get dinner a little outside of the main downtown areas and came across Sushi Bay 17. Beware that the parking lot next to the restaurant is not for customers. We found street parking nearby and walked over. We were sat immediately and given the menu to order. We ordered a bunch of rolls and a few other items. They make your order fresh, so it took some time to be delivered to our table, but it was worth the wait. My favorite was the toro! So delicious and fresh. I was truly looking forward to some quality sushi based on the perfect 4-star review but this place failed to impress me unfortunately. Online order was easy to do. And even if you choose the payment method of credit card, it does not make you pay at the time of order; you can pay for it at the time of pick-up which I thought was nice (not that I didn't want to pay for it right then.) You can also pick "cash pay upon pick up". For this, they are really flexible. On a holiday (January 1st to be exact), not many restaurants were open so I certainly appreciated them for working hard to be open when the workers can take off and rest at home. I just needed several sushi (nigiri) pieces so I picked white tuna, albacore tuna, yellow tail and striped bass. Each one (two pieces) were $6. Not bad.... Upon arriving at the restaurant to pick it up, I was able to take a few photos outside. Parking lot (west side) has several spaces. I liked the wall art (mural) on the wall. "Irasshaimase" sign at the entrance was very nice. Upon entering, there was only one table seated by two men. There were a few others but they appeared to be waiting for their pickup orders. The restaurant is/was very simple but definitely clean. Quite roomy so the tables were not placed cramped together. If you walk over to the ladies room to the right of the sushi bar, you'll notice a door that has a sign says "karaoke room". The rate for an hour is $27. I wonder how roomy that is. I didn't bother to check it. One of the guys at the sushi bar who greeted me said they were out of striped bass so he asked me to pick something else that is/was at the same price ($6) so I picked salmon. My order was ready only a few minutes after he and I had conversed. When I opened the bag, all the sushi pieces were neatly lined up in a typical sushi container. They looked good at the first glance but the pieces were a pretty small. Salmon was the best tasting one out of all four. The red snapper was the most disappointing one as it was chewy and didn't taste fresh. Mmm....I'm not impressed... The overall experience wasn't horrible but is this a place I'd go back all the way from my northeast DTC home? I don't think so.... Well, at least I tried, right? I don't know why I keep ordering from this place. Every time I eat it I say to myself I will never order from there again. I guess convenience as it's walkable to my apartment. But this time was really the last. The soup portion is half the size it used to be. I paid extra for spicy mayo and they gave me 1/100 of a container full... laughable really. A pretty small but delightful establishment located on 17th street. The sushi was quite good and the service was fantastic. We were a large group and the server kept our glasses and bellies full. She always seems to come at the right time without being in our faces. The food was fantastic, all of the fish was very fresh and reasonably priced. I have fond memories of Sushi Bay 17. My partner and I came here on a whim one weekday evening, and it was completely empty. We were immediately seated, and I ordered some delicious hot sake. We also placed an order for 3-4 sushi rolls, which were reasonably priced... as advertised on their website. Partially I think it's because the rolls have less ingredients and are thinner than other sushi places, but honestly I prefer being able to fit the sushi in my mouth. Some spots get so carried away with the size of their sushi rolls! Can't remember the names of what we got, but they were all filling. I'd definitely come here again, especially for their lunch specials. Or just easily order take-out through their website. Plus, I didn't realize there's a karaoke room in the back!? Great place from the comfortable chairs and booths to the clean environment full of natural light. Our host was super sweet and courteous. The lightly battered shrimp for the appetizer and fresh and perfectly sized sushi/rolls. We had the hot house sake flowing today, which we decided on adding the Raspberry liquor too and I'm super glad we did; Very delicious!! There is private parking along the side of the building, and if you're lucky enough, street parking may be available as well. Places is a solid 4 stars. We went in at lunch time around New Year's Day. They had just opened but the service was friendly and accommodating. We had planned on ordering off the lunch menu to save a few bucks. We ended up deciding to venture on our own. Everything was really good. The unagi was seared and hot. The Toro and the Toro roll were a hit. Overall a decent sushi experience. They do have Karaoke rooms, we didn't rent one but we were intrigued for next time we are in the area. read more

After the passage of some time though, and some recent delivery experiences, I realized my review is due for an update. I'm in the neighborhood, and whether I order delivery or pickup, things are ready promptly. When I've ordered by myself, I tend to get a sushi set for variety, and the fish has been fresh and well presented. This past weekend, I ordered a nice variety of specialty rolls with company--And I have to say, we were all commenting on how impressed we were. They came nicely packaged and were wonderfully flavorful. Pickup was a breeze. We ordered the Double Salmon, Hangover, Rainbow, Black Dragon, 17, and Yellowtail/Jalapeno rolls. They were all delicious, but the Hangover with the scallop and thin lemon on top was definitely a favorite. We only regretted there wasn't more (volume isn't a pro here). Also, they seemed to have up'ed their website game, so definitely check them out directly if you're placing an order! Delicious sushi. Late night happy hour before close on many of the appetizers, sushi rolls, beer and some drinks. The garlic butter edamame is fantastic with lots of fresh chopped garlic and butter. I have to say I was kind of underwhelmed here. We rented the karaoke room for a friends birthday for like 2.5 hours. Having a private space for all of us to eat/drink and sing was awesome! However, the machine was very hard to navigate. Our server was very nice but every time we asked her for something she said they didnt have it and she didnt know how to use the karaoke machine. We asked for orange slices for some shots - no oranges. We asked for something else simple, I dont remember what and they didnt have it. To start I had a 17 Mule on the menu - it was sugary and not very good. The regular mule was way better. This was the first time my husband and I have not finished sushi... We ordered a philly roll - which we did finish and that was good. but the other two rolls - the spicy salmon roll and the specialty roll with the kobe beef on top were not good.. The Karaoke room is sound proofed but you have to exit to go to the bathroom. So anytime we would exit, everyone outside dining normally just looked at us glaringly with the noise that would come out of the room from opening the door. You either love or hate karaoke. There is hardly an in between. For those who hate it, come here for the sushi. It is definitely worth the visit. I came here for my joint bachelor party and we reserved a karaoke room for 11 people. You have to reserve the room for a minimum of 3 hours. It fits up to 20 people. The room is super spacious and modern. There are two larger lounge chairs and several round swivel ottomans in front of coffee tables that serve as your dining table. I ordered 3 specialty rolls and some tuna tataki with microgreens, red tobiko and onion soy sauce. and thought all tasted great. Staff were friendly and attentive. They were able to take our large/confusing orders and not mix it up. You order on a piece of paper and check off the items that you want. Happy hour is all day on the weekend and is 3-6PM on weekdays. It includes drinks, rolls and appetizers. The karaoke machine was modern but a little confusing to use. It was hard to search for artists sometimes. I liked that you had the option to turn on or off the back track/vocalist for each song. I also liked how easy it was to control the volume. I have been a frequent customer for 15 yrs. UNTIL today. We received a (FOWL) sushi roll- smelled rotten. I unfortunately took a bite before realizing. I'm not one to complain, but we HAD to. It was THAT BAD. Upon giving the staff feedback, they told us "It's fine.. no one else has "SAID ANYTHING". Are kidding me? They stood behind rotten fish, and told us to eat it. Star 1: The space and location are excellent! Located in the heart of the City Park neighborhood off 17th and Gilpin there's plenty of street parking and a small adjoining parking lot. Inside is ultra sleek and modern without feeling uncomfortable. Star 2: The sushi was tasty! I opted for the spicy tuna crunch roll and a Philadelphia roll. Both were excellent. The crunch roll wasn't over the top crunchy either. Star 3: Great specials! They offer a variety of specials including the $11 two roll special that I chose. It comes with soup, salad, and two rolls that you select from a more limited list. Still plenty of great options. Star 4: You can order online! While this wasn't something I chose to do; having the option is great if you live/work nearby. Sushi Bay 17 was def a great option to satiate my sushi craving! I'll happily return! read more

Sushi here is very average. I got the golden mussels, salmon belly sashimi, and hangover roll. Golden mussels a bit chewy and tasted old, salmon belly was just okay. I did not like the lettuce in the hangover roll; it kind of overpowered the taste of the whole roll and you could not really taste the fish. There are better sushi places out there. read more

A friend had been wanting to try this place for a while so we met up early evening on a Friday. When we were seated there weren't too many other people dining in. Somehow, it still took 45 minutes for us to get a total of four rolls (it seemed as though they prioritized take out orders over dine in). This is why I gave them a three star rating (the food is definitely worthy of four stars, but the delay in getting food and checking out dropped it down a star for me). Now, onto the sushi itself: I ordered the Alaska, and the Dark Angel Roll. These were delicious. There is mediocre Sushi and all day Happy Hours on Saturday/Sunday. They are Chinese and not Japanese, but the standard is what it is. This isn't Sushi Den! But you kind of come here b/c you want to book the large Karaoke room. Yes, there is a Karaoke room. This is the deal. It's not Voicebox. But you can reserve up to 3 hours for $25 a hour. There is a $150 minimum for food/beverages for the room - but NO Happy Hour Prices. The main problem is - the Karaoke menu is not American. It's Chinese style, if you know what that means - there is every Chinese Pop star from Hong Kong to the US. But the Foreign Menu (American-Pop) is slightly limited and my basic Chinese had a hard time navigating, although it's in English too. If you want to hangout with 20/30 of your friends for some general private tunes, it's a great spot in City Park West. There is a small parking lot too - but good thing I live around the neighborhood to walk. read more

I would say this is a reliable neighborhood sushi spot. Good sushi, but not life changing. Theres definitely better spots in Denver, but if you want an affordable chill night out and you live close I would recommend. The specialty roles we got were really good especially the Mango Roll. read more

We ordered a bunch of sushi and appetizers and were stuffed by the time we left. We were stuffed based on the amount we ordered and the ample serving sizes of the plates.
