It was our last night in Destin, and we chose Domo Izakaya for dinner after exploring the area. We found parking easily, and upon entering, the restaurant's ambiance was very positive. We were seated at our tables and greeted by the server, Jazz, who brought us the menus. After reviewing the menu, we ordered Edamame, Karaage Chicken, Thai Tea, Deja Vu Roll, Domo Roll, Avocado Roll, Alaskan Roll and DOMO Chicken Ramen. Our order included Thai Tea, Edamame, and Karaage Chicken. The Thai Tea was a refreshing start to our dinner, and the Karaage Chicken was delicious, easily one of the best we've had. We got the rest of the rolls Deja Vu Roll, the Avocado Roll, and the Alaskan Roll. The sushi rolls were delicious - everyone in our group really enjoyed them. We got DOMO Chicken Ramen and Domo Roll. The ramen was delicious and well-prepared with chicken. The Domo Roll was a highlight of the night and one of the best sushi rolls we've had. Yall, this was one of the best sushi rolls ever. I was going between two rolls, and the server suggested the Deja Vu roll. She also mentioned it's one of their more popular rolls, and I understand why! All of the flavors and textures work together so nicely. I also enjoy my nigiri. The presentation was not what I expected because I couldn't see the rice, but it was there covered by the spicy salmon and wrapped by seaweed. I would order that again. The vibe of the restaurant is pretty cool also. The only negative to my experience was that they didn't allow my lunch mates to order a kids sized ramen bowl. The Domo Chicken Ramen is let down by a prepackaged chicken they add. It looks and tastes exactly like it sounds. Like chicken lunch meat you get from a package that's already precooked. Awful flavor and really makes this Ramen dish horrible. Being truthful we told our waitress and she was like ya it's preference but confirmed that it's 100% pre packaged chicken and they just heat it up. I thought she would offer something else after telling us that but she smiled and basically said, " Better luck next time". The Goku Ramen was stellar, great broth with a little spice and fall of the bone tender meat. They even give you a dipping sauce for the meat. It's great but pricey at $32 and I only got 4 medium chunks. It doesn't have much veggies or extras. It's broth, meat, corn and noodles. That's it. The bun was the best bang for your buck. $5 but you only get one and it's lightly flavored but in all the best ways. Overall experience was a 6/10. Food was hit and miss. Confirming the quality of one meal by staff but not offering to provide a better dish was a huge miss on their part. I'll return for a follow up visit but initial impression is mixed. Once we were seated and ordered our food, it took almost an hour for our food to come out, most likely due to being understaffed as I only saw one or two servers waiting the entire restaurant. They need to do a better job with this because that wait time for our food was way too long. Food wise I got the Black Tonkotsu ramen which was actually pretty good, though the portion could've been bigger. I left still feeling hungry. The hype for this place was not met. We arrived about 730pm closing time was 10. We didn't get sat until 9:15. It was busy we understood. However we ordered pretty quick when we sat down. She didn't confirm the order she just walked off. About 9:41 food starts arriving. We got 3 rolls that were not ours and we knew they weren't ours because no one at our table eats cream cheese... when we went to correct them she very clearly says "Well i repeated the ordered to you" no maam you didn't. We also know we didn't order CREAM CHEESE. Was not very hospitable at all. Chicken ramen- lacked a lot of flavor all I tasted was sriracha and cilantro. Broth flavorless. A5 Wagu udon was outstanding, very sesame tasting! Destin roll- would've loved to actually eat it but they didn't give it to us until closing time for to go and at that point I just didn't want to eat any more. Alaskan roll was good. This is the second time we eat here while visiting family that live in the area. We love this place. I personally love how it looks, the anime figurines, the sake barrels and the rest of the Asian decor is on point. Then the food! This time we started off with some appetizers, I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken, which soooo good, it reminded me of the Korean chain restaurant Kyochon that I had when I was stationed in Korea. The first time we were here I got the Naruto ramen which I loved, and this time I decided to try a different one and went with the Goku ramen it was great! But I think the Naruto was better. To drink, I got the Shosi Mojito which I didn't read it was made with Soju and it was great! The service just like the first time was great. It's been a long time since I've reviewed anything on account of being super wrapped up in the end of democracy as we know it BUT I had to drop in here with the 4/5 star review and a "highly recommend" for this spot but get there early or wait it on out because the dinning room is small and the food is fantastic. Well reader, I ordered gochujang with my bibempap and they looked at me like I was crazy and then brought out two hot sauces, one of which resembled southern bbq and the other was the "house" hot sauce which I had a little sample of before liberally applying to my food. I've lived in South Korea and traveled throughout Asia. The heat this sauce brought was no joke. I felt like someone had stuck a hair curler into my mouth. Which I swore I'd never do again. So a waitress walks by and I ask what's in it and she asks me if I asked for 1, 2, or 3 spice and before I answer she looks closer at the sauce and tells me that it is a 3. Reader, I would never order a 3. So on account of being handed a 3 instead of a 1 and not even asked in the first place, I'm giving them 4/5 starts. But honestly, I'd go there again tonight if I could. The sashimi was excellent. Service was tops. If you want the heat, they got the heat. read more

Right when we walked in, we were greeted and seated. Literally my first and favorite surprise was that the bathroom I used (there are two separate ones), it had a bidet! Super surprise since I only ever used one when I visited Japan last summer. Restroom overall was clean and spacious. Food was delicious. We tried the Domo bun appetizer. Fair warning-it is only one bun per order. It was pretty well stuffed and flavorful. You had the choice of 3 different meats to fill the bun. Ramen was flavorful. We shared a bowl amongst 3 people just to see how it was. Excellent tasting and not too overpowering. The lunch bento box specials were nice. We really enjoyed the dressing on the house salads. Very refreshing. The grilled salmon wasn't drenched in sauce but lightly coated yet very flavorful. The torch trio was also delicious and refreshing. It comes with 3 different fish and the taste provided a nice contrast in between eating the Domo bun. The service was excellent. The waitress who helped us today was super friendly and very sweet. I hate to write a bad review, so it takes alot to get to that point when I do, meaning it's pretty well earned. I am from out of town and pulled up the restaurant and saw great pictures and it seemed creative and the menu was definitely creative, lots of choices. I compared it to others locally and just seemed right. The staff was very friendly. I also must mention I am particular about sushi places. They can be dirty and miss the mark on quality. This happened to be both sadly. From the moment I sat down the menus were my first red flag, super wore out, old, torn and sticky. It just had "germs" written all over it. I should have just left but was SO hungry. Me an my guest ordered and we both got the speciality items for some rolls. Again what we saw in photos. It arrived and nothing like the photos. Super goopy and over sauced, and the protien was what really made us both very disgusted. I had mine topped with a brown paste, like a dark tan color. I asked server what that was and they said it was the spicy tuna!! It wasn't the reddish pink or even light pink or any kind of pink that tuna usually is. And the texture after that first bite was like toothpaste so I scapped it all off the top getting as much brown off because I was starving. I ate what I could. And scraped off all the spicy mayo and other nasty warm goop. My partner picked apart what they had and could not eat much. We both left after $75 and were queezy the whole way home. When I got home I forced myself to purge it all out of my system to keep from any chance of food poisoning and just to get that gross food out of my system. Maybe their Ramen is a better choice but this was honestly the worst sushi I ever had in all my life and I am good for a while now after that. Being in town for memorial Day weekend, it was a mad house trying to find a restaurant to eat at. We had Domo Izakaya as a choice to go to and it ended up being the right decision. First off the service even on a super busy day was on top of it, the ambiance had a great Japanese feel to it and the food was awesome. On top of that, we got seated immediately when there was a ton of people that were waiting. On a hot day, it made sense to have sushi and honestly it was very tasty. We got the surf and turf roll and the hamachi garlic....and we got the spicy miso ramen even on a hot day . As for the rolls, the surf and turf was good all around but I did wish it had some sort of sauce on it. The portion of steak and crab in the roll were great but just needed a sauce to it. The hamachi garlic was awesome and a must order. The hamachi was very fresh and almost melted in your mouth. Over all a great roll! The spicy miso ramen was delicious too with well cooked noodles, tasty chashu pork and a very tasty broth that was spicy but not to a point where you can't taste anything. All very good! Wow. This place was impressive. Down here with my teenage son and two of his friends, one of whom had a birthday and wanted to get ramen. So, found this spot and saw strong reviews (thanks, Yelpers!). It was an exceptionally good call. I really need another visit to wade more deeply into the menu, but we got a great variety of dishes, all exceptional. Started with the KFC (Korean fried chicken). Crisp, tangily sauced wings were an ideal way to begin. For entrees, I did the katsu combo platter--beautifully fried pork (also a chicken option), a bowl of savory beef broth with some cabbage leaves (I think the soup can change), a macaroni salad of some kind that I really want more of (and I hate macaroni salad as a rule), rice, and a tangy slaw. My son did the beef bulgogi that he was quite impressed with--tender slices of beef atop a bed of rice and vegetables. The others did two of the ramen choices and similarly raved about each (sorry, I failed to get photos of those, but the deep red color on the spicy miso ramen was enough to lure me into what I am sure will be another visit this trip...maybe two). Also added two rolls for the table that the server recommended--the first being one most guests order, the second being her personal pick. The smokin' dragon was fun for the presentation--came out in foil wrap atop a flaming plate that they let you blow out. It was very good (shrimp, asparagus, cream cheese, and sauces), but her preferred pick frankly blew it away: the Big Bang (ok, no pun intended with the blew it away comment!). Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, roe, and other ingredients I'm forgetting...just came together amazingly well, and the spicy mayo was the perfect accompaniment. For the adults, they have some tasty cocktails. The Shiso Mojito was refreshing and light, an excellent riff on the classic. Service was attentive, friendly, and helpful. Go. Dine. Be happy. Repeat. I had heard great things about this restaurant from friends and family back home, so I had to try it when I was in town. I am so glad that I did. I started off with a DOMO bun, and it was amazing. I like surprises when it comes to ordering sushi, so that is why I ordered the Nigiri Omakase. It did not disappoint. The funny thing is, I can usually eat more than 10 pieces of sushi, so I was seriously considering the option to order the Mango Trio after the Nigiri Omakase. But, there was absolutely no way that I could've finished another sushi item because I was pretty full after the Nigiri Omakase. Oh - and I have to give shout out to my server. He was very knowledgeable, and I appreciate his insights and the way that he presented my sushi. His name was Jazz. I'm 95% confident that I will go back to eat at Domo Isakaya again before I leave Destin, and I'll definitely ask to sit at a table that Jazz is covering. One reason Yelp comes through. This is the highest rated in Destin and for good reason. The sheer presentation was enough. But the food was prepared quickly and absolutely fresh ingredients used. Flavors were out of this world and a welcomed surprise. And the SERVICE!!!! Four ladies ROCKING IT OUT!!! The manager(I believe Jace was his name) stopped by a couple times and talked to us on a personal level. Making us feel welcome. Much appreciation for that.
