RUN AWAY FROM THESE CRIMINALS!! They do NOT have a valid license in Virginia under any of the 3+…read morecompany names they work-or hide- under (AEM, Inner Harbor Logistics, Loudoun County Contractors & maybe other names-some of their addresses are in Leesburg, Va & some in Maryland). Carmen Pretopapa, Nathan Hill, & Zack Hill do nothing but lie and scam people out of their money. Worse, they'll damage your property, costing you more money! I wrote a review while they were still "working" for us. They threatened to stop all work unless I removed the online review. I removed it, still hoping for resolution on project. Their tactics are gaslighting, lies, & threats. And Carmen blamed his employees for all the mistakes in the construction- saying, "well, all these guys are Mexican...or er, ya know all those countries are like Mexico to me...and they don't have the same standards we do." WHAT?! Hired them to build a 10x11 portico roof & install 2 patios in July 2022. They took $18,400 from us. After several delays, & numerous excuses about vacations & illnesses, and even blaming the county- work finally began in Jan 2023. Porch failed inspection FOUR times. They damaged our new home roof, damaged our house siding & caused immeasurable stress. When it became clear that the structure they had partially built was 100% UNSAFE: (a) rafters not tied into the home correctly; (b) random beam installed over door, then removed; (c) foundation posts not level causing a backflow of water & water intrusion into home; (d) structure allowed to sit uncovered for months during rainy season also allowed damage & mold growth; (e) the post near house should have actually been tied into home beams- instead they tried to build a "box" in front of the door & then poorly attached a porch roof which was incorrectly tied into home roof. Basically you could push on one of those posts with one hand & the entire structure would move. The whole structure could have easily come down, ripping out our home roof with it!! We stopped all work until a structurally sound plan could be devised. Had our 3rd meeting with Nate, Carmen & county inspector who advised Nate & Carmen exactly what needed to be done. NONE of the corrections were done-they simply shoved shims between posts & porch roof to "level" it. We bent over backwards trying to work it out with the company, we gave them numerous chances & a lot of money. We finally hired an attorney & went to court. We won & were awarded actual & treble damages plus attorney fees. Not surprisingly, Nate & Carmen ran off with our money. Our attorney sent garnishment letters to the company bank, but were informed the total amount in their account was only $2,000-that won't even cover our attorney fees. Virginia should stop them & prevent this from happening to anyone ever again. They have been allowed to commit fraud, damage property, and steal from honest people in Loudoun & Clarke counties & beyond. Don't believe me? Look at their reviews, look at the BBB where they have an F rating. Look at the state DPOR site at all the complaints...according to the state site their last known business license was REVOKED.

The stairs also had to correct a serious water runoff issue. The work was exceptional. The Mottern team knew what they were doing and finished on schedule. Our slate walk was replaced four years ago by Mottern and the crew. Our porch did not match the vibrancy of the walk that Mottern put down. That had been done a good 25 years ago by another company. It was a flat gray, and it was fading and developing unsightly pivots, it was not attractive. Jeff came over to access something on the walk, because he really does honor his five year warranty, and we started talking about the porch rehab, and from there the magic began. As you can see Jeff ordered the same bluestone slates that were used on the walk. Now the porch matches the walk and entire area glows with a new vibrancy that thrills me every time I look at it. On dealing with the company. Jeff is the most responsive company owner I have ever dealt with. Honestly, email him, and the next second he is responding. A totally rare and unparalleled quality in a company today. He is friendly, listens to what the customer is saying, and uses his years of experience and design skill to come up with the perfect plan to execute what the customer has in mind. The Crew: I can't say enough about the crew. They always arrive with a smile and good cheer, a commitment to focusing on the project as if it were their own home. The commitment to detail is astonishing. Each crew member has the skill set to execute the project to perfection, even throwing in some well received advice that the customer might not have thought about. Most of the crew has been with Jeff for years. Some for over 20 years. They are savvy, honest and keep the work site clean and tidy at the end of each day. I enjoyed peeking outside to watch their progress. They were able to install our new porch without damaging our existing siding or the support columns. This left us with no repair work! That was a bonus! A footnote here: Four years ago when we did our front walk, we also had Mottern provide us a back patio. Jeff designed it with creative curves and appeal, instead of a simple square design. We used the stamped concrete method on the patio, which is still beautiful and we use it every day!!! The stamped concrete was made to mimic slate. Mottern can also mimic brick, but we wanted to reflect the front walk.

He took over an hour to measure everything and sent me the lumber quote he received so that I was fully informed, then we talked labor. He would point out problematic areas (like rotting framing) and would ask me if I wanted to have it replaced rather than just covering it up with the new surface. He did an amazing job that had my mom's tenants and the neighbors complementing the work and I felt the price was very reasonable. Based on that job, I brought him out to take a look at my townhouse to possibly replace the siding and he suggested sanding, priming and painting instead due to the price of replacement. They sanded almost every square inch of it, primed it (in some areas twice) with a peeling paint primer that is like glue to fill in gaps and keep the rest of the old paint from peeling, and then put a double coat over everything. When they finished, I was surprised to find that they had power washed our patio, porch, and front half-height fence and even painted the fence though we never talked about doing any of that work. I felt compelled to pay him extra. Deck Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wELQYf0YGKY
