We discovered standing water in the Crawl Space of our (new to us) house in May 2025. We solicited 6 proposals from both local and National waterproofing companies. The lowest cost proposal was from MER Waterproofing. The highest cost proposal was 2.5 times more than MER! Ignoring the prices, we carefully reviewed the proposals. The MER proposal and reviews were the best by far. So we selected MER. We worked with Mike (owner) and Andreas (work foreman) throughout the work. Andreas was with us during 100% of the work. Mike visited the site and communicated with us via phone. In addition, we had the pleasure of working with Junior, Andreas son. An internal perimeter drain was installed along with a single sump basin, a primary pump and a battery backup pump. While completing this work, a crack in the foundation (non structural) was identified by Andreas as an area of water infiltration into our crawl space. They immediately address the issue and repaired the crack with great care. Andreas also identified a support joist that needed support. They poured a concrete support and installed a metal support strut. They also install some 12 x 2 wood joists to further support a side joist. The joist issued was caused by many years of super high humidity. MER finished off the work by encapsulating the crawl space with 20 mil reinforced plastic. Finally, MER installed the dehumidifier I had previously purchased. When I turned on the dehumidifier the humidity was a staggering 86%. Just seven days later, the humidity was reduced to the target 50%! MER Then returned to spray all the wood with an antimicrobial treatment to kill the remaining mold. I cannot say enough good things about MER, Mike, Andreas, Junior and the whole crew. Without doubt, the very best company and group of people we have ever worked with. Wish I had known about MER on day one. Instead I mistakenly hired another contractor who proved to be a nightmare. I needed to have a large section of my concrete garage floor replaced due to age, cracking, heaving and tripping hazards. A job that was supposed to be simple....I thought. Instead I was left with a garage floor torn up, flooded with water and unusable for six plus weeks. Things went from bad to worse until a friend recommend that I call MER. Glad I did for by that time I was about to lose my mind. Steve, their estimator stopped by the day after I called to bid the job. He treated me with respect, clearly answered my questions, explained how the job would be done and left me feeling that I was finally in the presence of someone who knew what they were talking about. Steve presented me with a very fair price. I was prepared to pay more considering that I was having MER follow behind someone else's mess. Mary, MER's office manager kindly provided me with a written contract which included additional details that I had requested. MERS owner, Mike also spoke with me to arrange scheduling and specification details. Mike and his crew arrived at my home in a timely manner. Mike reviewed the job with his crew, including my husband and me. The MER crew turned out to be great guys. They wasted no time in getting the job started and were completely trustworthy. Neither I nor my husband had to 'babysit' them or question what they were up to. They just plugged along in an organized and professional manner. In addition, they hauled all debris away and left the job super clean. Best yet, they had the entire job completed that same day even though it had been tentatively scheduled for two. I was delighted considering what I had been through with the previous contractor. The MER's team is the real deal - old school, no nonsense, experienced, efficient, reliable, helpful and trustworthy. Mike Reiff, the owner of MER, was recommended to me by a good friend and architect to assist me in waterproofing my basement. I live in a 90 year old house with no footers that leaked severely with any hard rain. Prior to asking for the recommendation, I'd spoken to a number of other water proofers who came and looked at the house and who each had different ideas on how to address. The one thing they had in common was that I didn't feel comfortable that any of them was a true subject matter expert who would get the job done. Additionally, the pricing was all over the map with some charging nearly 3x the others. When I finally met Mike, his expertise and general competence was so clearly above anyone else I had met. Mike has spent a career addressing the problem of wet basements and it was immediately obvious that there was nothing he hadn't seen - at least 100 times. For my old house, the confidence that Mike exuded made me finally feel comfortable enough to pull the trigger. Mike and his crew put me on the schedule (because of a very wet spring and early summer, I believe I had to wait nearly a month). But it was so worth it. Mike and his team did exactly what he proposed in terms of time, effort, noise, cost (which was on the low side, even of the knuckle heads I'd previously met) and professionalism. They even took on the task of moving shelving and bins of storage themselves so I had very little prep despite a very cluttered basement. I never thought it would happen in my old leaky house but It's now been 6 months and the basement has been bone dry. I can't recommend MER strongly enough. MER/Morrison Waterproofing recently completed a large project at my house to resolve a moisture intrusion problem affecting our garage and part of the basement foundation. MER worked closely with the civil engineer I retained to determine the best permanent solution to the problem. In all facets of the job, MER was top-notch. There was a lot of digging around the foundation with very little room to move or store the dirt due to the steepness of the yard. They took precautions and protected plants and ground cover in the work area. We were kept informed with respect to progress, next steps, and made aware of anything encountered that was unexpected. The work crews were simply phenomenal. A drainage system was laid out and tied together around the front and sides the house, the gutters and downspouts were tied into this drainage system, and all the ground water was redirected by gravity to the slope behind our house. The engineer conducted tests at various points during the job to ensure that the system designed was working properly. MER/Morrison receives the highest rating I can provide. read more

This company did the work quickly and efficiently, but that is where the buck stops. The woman Mary that runs their office is a liar and a moron that likes to threaten people. Tried to tell me that the checks they received for payment were no good and that we needed to bring them cash. After multiple emails and a lack of response from their company I tried to find out what their problem was and why they were not sending me my final invoice. Mary said I still hadn't paid them and again threatened to try and have a lien put on my house and then hung up on me and refused to answer the phone for the remainder of the day. I left a message threatening legal action and the next day the checks were deposited in the bank. I still have yet to receive a final invoice or warranty information regarding my repairs. The work is not worth the headache that comes after, run from this company. I should have gone with Mid Atlantic instead. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for. MER Waterproofing just installed a 25 ft French drain and sump pump in my basement which had been seeping water from the exterior cinder block wall. After looking at a few other proposals, MER seemed to know more about how to solve the problem than others and their price was competitive. Mike Reiff (owner and founder of MER) obtained the required permit for the work, and came himself to start his crew on the job. The crew was polite, efficient and knew what they were doing covered all areas and walkways with tarps to ensure no dust was dispersed on my furniture and fittings. They completed the work in a day and half, cleaned up after them, and Mike himself got the city inspector to approve the work and modify it as the inspector wanted. Mike also made a service call to paint drylock on the concrete floor to prevent any dampness seeping through. I am very pleased with MER's work and would use him again if needed. read more

MER was recommended to us by a respected structural engineer in the Woodbridge, VA area to fix a basement leak and sill plates. We went through about 25 contractors before selecting MER. They first had to redo the concrete on our cracked porch which was funneling water into our basement. They then put a protective water barrier against the wooden band boards and joists to block any future leaks because Pulte did such an awful job building our porch. MER then fixed a leak from a cracked foundation. And lastly they raised our house off it's foundation to replace the rotted wooden sill plates from the porch leaks where mice and rodents were getting through to our basement. They were very attentive to our concerns and were good with followup even after a year. The estimates were accurate and prices were fair. The basement is now dry and free of odors. Mer Morrison waterproofed my house over 7 years ago and I just recently had a crack that needed to be injected and I knew just who to call. The work they did over 7 years ago hasn't leaked a bit and the crew they sent out were amazing. The owner is very knowledgeable and so is his secretaries in his office. I called on Tuesday and told them what I thought was going on in my basement and they said they would send out a service manager to see what was needed to fix the problem and I got a appointment the next day and after removing the drywall he told me it was a crack and that he could go ahead and fix it right then and there!! I've used MER waterproofing for two projects at my house. They installed sump pumps in my crawl space as well as some structural supports. Both jobs were done on schedule with high quality work. I've found that their service and their responsiveness to my calls have been outstanding. When adjustments needed to be made to the structural supports, they returned at no further cost, completed additional work, and ensured that I was satisfied with it. Recently I thought that one of the sump pumps wasn't working. I called and they scheduled a service check the following day.
