I was on a mission to find some good, authentic fried snapper. After eating at the resort for a few days, I got bored with the food because it didn't feel like authentic Mexican cuisine. I asked one of the workers there for a recommendation, and they suggested this restaurant. I was not disappointed at all. I had the garlic butter octopus. Normally, I prefer my octopus charred, but the garlic butter sauce gave it so much flavor that I didn't even mind. The snapper was fried perfectly. I added some of their homemade pepper sauce and a little more garlic butter sauce on top of the fish. I was in heaven! To top it all off, the drinks were good and the scenery was beautiful, right on the water. Overall, I was very satisfied with the recommendation, and I would definitely come back again the next time I'm in Mexico. read more

Dined here for dinner one night and lunch the next day. Picturesque beach views from the dining patio of the turquoise water only steps away from the sand. For dinner, we shared the surf and turf special that came with a huge lobster tail, grilled shrimp and a filet. The food was amazing and the service was first class. For lunch the next day I got the rochalesa shrimp and a skirt steak. Again, very flavorful. The strawberry sauce that came with the shrimp sounded odd but was delicious! Easy 5 stars. read more

After dining at every restaurant in this resort, my husband and I both agreed that Pelicano's was the "worst." Their breakfast was only meh since they didn't have a big menu and the huevos rancheros was very bland. We both really wanted huevos rancheros - we were in Mexico afterall - but the dish was not very flavorful at all. We wanted a little kick to it, and there was none. As for dinner, the appetizers and small bites were quite good, but both of our main courses were pretty hospital food-esque. Honestly, the best part of this restaurant was all of the stray cats that hung around looking adorable and being friendly. read more

This is a great restaurant to eat lunch or dinner at if staying at the Royal. It's all outdoor seating but covered. It's located right on the edge of the beach next to the pier. The food is very good. All of it very light. We came here for lunch a few times just to get the nachos! We ordered them with ground beef and an extra side of guac.The Yucatan chicken and seafood plate were probably my two favorites. The chicken was very juicy with so much flavor. It came with a size of string veggies. The seafood plate came with two of everything. 2 shrimp, 2 clams, 2 scallops, etc. This plate came with a side of rice. The beef filet was probably my least favorite. The meat wasn't a great cut and just too chewy for my liking. They have a gluten free menu for anyone with a food allergy! It includes a few items from the regular menu but also pastas and pizzas! They don't have a drink menu but they have a full bar and can make you pretty much anything. Service is great here. They're so quick and friendly. I would definitely recommend coming here for lunch or dinner! read more

Oh the dinner we had here was fantastic. Except for the steak. They don't really know how to cook a steak to your liking but everything else was delicious! Now we're more crab leg people and not lobster but we decided to splurge for the lobster tail and boy it was worth it in spades!! THE VERY best lobster tail we've ever ate EVER! Our server was on the ball. He explained everything to us and our food came to us lickity split! This was by far our favorite restaurant on the property of the Hilton Playa Del Carmen. Well and the cafe with all the desserts! This is a MUST restaurant you have to go to if you like surf and turf! We may just go back on our last night. And bonus it's facing the ocean outside! We came here for breakfast and lunch. It's an outside eating area and you get a nice view of the beach. Service here is great. Everybody is very attentive. For the breakfast menu, I didn't care for as much. Nothing really wowed me. The waffle wasn't really crispy it was more doughy. Lunch menu was better. The salads were really refreshing. This was our go-to most days for lunch while we stayed at the Hilton Adults Only All-Inclusive resort. The service was great, the views of the water was great and so was the food! Only reason they lost a star was due to all of the stray cats roaming through. I don't mind animals, but I'm allergic to cats. My favorite lunch item was the Rochalesa Shrimps. Oh my gosh. I loved this dish and had way too many! The shrimp is lightly breaded and is put over a bed of mashed potatoes. There is a "spicy" mango sauce that is drizzled over it. It's not spicy at all and I'm a very sensitive eater. The staff answered all of my questions and it really was a great place to have lunch after sitting by the pool. I can't say anything regarding breakfast or dinner due to us choosing other restaurants for those meals. However, this was a good choice! read more

Great service, amazing food, that unlimited drinks what more can I ask for! I had the puebla enchiladas; the tortilla had a perfect yellow corn taste and the green sauce had a great taste! If your into spice their habanero salsa is to die and sweat for too! The service is great they are polite and keep refilling your drinks. I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN! If I could give this place no stars I would. To start we weren't initially greeted when we walked in. We choose to sit outside for a better view, that was the best part of this experience honestly. We asked our waiter for menu recommendations he replied with an attitude "whatever the menu says is what we have" STRIKE 1. We received our drinks from the bar, strawberry mojito and sangria, the sangria was terrible it tasted like dish water. I asked to exchange the sangria out for something else, the waiter replied "No, I'm going to charge you for the first drink and the second one if you order another one" he also said " who do you think is going to pay for that drink". STRIKE 2. At this point I was extremely annoyed and ready to go. The food comes out shorty after I ordered chicken fajitas, it reminded me of stir fry. The chicken tasted like it was cooked in A LOT of soy sauce, would not recommend. The garlic shrimp were decent. The entire time we had our food our waiter was sitting at a nearby table with the rest of the servers. He didn't even acknowledge or come over to ask us if we needed anything at all. STRIKE 3. We sat at the table for about 15 minutes after we done eating before I caught another server attention, and that server tapped out server on the shoulder letting him know that we were waiting on him. Once we received our bill, the same server that was being an asshole the entire night and ignored us until we received our bill, stood closely by while we were looking over our bill. He then proceeded to ask us for a tip PRIOR to us paying. STRIKE 4. Being apart of the customer service business, I make it my business to tip but I refuse to tip anyone that's blatantly rude for absolutely no reason at all. read more

Excellent beach front restaurant at the Royal! This was the first restaurant we went to on our vacation and I was thoroughly impressed. The restaurant is outdoors, covered, but not enclosed. It's the closest restaurant to the beach and has a wonderful breezy atmosphere/feel to it. To start you off they take your drink order and bring you chips and guac (request more, I did). For an entree, I ordered the steak. After a short wait, and the friendly service, my steak arrived and it was delicious. For "free" food, at an all inclusive, you wouldn't think the food was so good... but it is! Definitely enjoyed this restaurant! read more

Oh my gosh. The best fish tacos EVER. If you are staying at the royal this needs to be a spot that you hit for lunch. They have either a buffet option or a taco bar to the left side of the bar. We opted for the taco bar and we are so glad we did. The fish is perfectly fried and you have the opportunity to put whatever toppings you would like on it. We chose the coleslaw, habanero sauce and some type of chipotle cream sauce. So so so good!! read more

Taco bar is great! Their Surf and Turf with shrimp is amazing, probably the best dish I've had here at the resort. My fiancé had the grilled fish plate (Grouper Escalope with spices) it was delicious! The seating area is beachfront without any windows so you'll get a full view of the ocean along with a nice breeze. Dress code for men is casual dressy so make sure to wear a shirt with sleeves if you are planning to have dinner here. For lunch you are allowed to wear a sleeveless shirt. A definite must try if you are staying at the Royal. read more

Best restaurant in the royal hotel !! From service to their food. The head chef who over sees everything even checked in with us, and even remembered us from lunch the other day. We informed him of how great the restaurant was and how much we enjoyed their service !! A must go too, we had lunch and dinner here both on different days. We had reservations at all the other resturants which included Chefs plate, Maria Marie, and the new Italian restaurant in front of the hotel.... by far the best and you don't have to make a reservation. The other resturants should definitely look up to pelicanos for food and service tips. read more

My husband and I had breakfast here this morning and everything was excellent - atmosphere, food and service. I had the eggs of champions, which is poached eggs with a spicy tomato green chile sauce. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection. The captain at the restaurant, Emmanuel Bescera was very kind, friendly and made wonderful recommendations.
