The food was great our server was outstanding. But the property was such a disappointment the management team was awful except for William and Frida and Reynaldo our waiter at the pool

Best dining experience during our stay at Hilton Playa del Carmen resort. Miguel provided wonderful service. The food was all amazing but our favorites were the surf and turf special and the corn empanada. The dining area is right on the ocean so you have a beautiful view. We even got to watch a raccoon family play nearby.

We had breakfast and lunch here during our stay. I highly recommend both. Our servers both times were great. The restaurant is open air and just off the beach so you can hear the waves while you eat.

After dining at every restaurant in this resort, my husband and I both agreed that Pelicano's was the "worst." Their breakfast was only meh since they didn't have a big menu and the huevos rancheros was very bland. We both really wanted huevos rancheros - we were in Mexico afterall - but the dish was not very flavorful at all. We wanted a little kick to it, and there was none. As for dinner, the appetizers and small bites were quite good, but both of our main courses were pretty hospital food-esque. Honestly, the best part of this restaurant was all of the stray cats that hung around looking adorable and being friendly.

I think this was one of my favorite restaurants at the Hilton resort. I went there three times during my stay & every time the food was great. Great choices on the menu for everyone. The coconut shrimp with curry sauce & rice was delicious & was probably my favorite thing i ate at the resort.

This is a great restaurant to eat lunch or dinner at if staying at the Royal. It's all outdoor seating but covered. It's located right on the edge of the beach next to the pier. The food is very good. All of it very light. We came here for lunch a few times just to get the nachos! We ordered them with ground beef and an extra side of guac. The Yucatan chicken and seafood plate were probably my two favorites. The chicken was very juicy with so much flavor. It came with a size of string veggies. The seafood plate came with two of everything. 2 shrimp, 2 clams, 2 scallops, etc. This plate came with a side of rice. The beef filet was probably my least favorite. The meat wasn't a great cut and just too chewy for my liking. They have a gluten free menu for anyone with a food allergy! It includes a few items from the regular menu but also pastas and pizzas! They don't have a drink menu but they have a full bar and can make you pretty much anything. Service is great here. They're so quick and friendly. I would definitely recommend coming here for lunch or dinner!

This was one of my favorite places at the Hilton Resort although we only made it there once. It took awhile for the waiter to make it to our table but other than that service was spectacular!

Oh the dinner we had here was fantastic. Except for the steak. They don't really know how to cook a steak to your liking but everything else was delicious! Now we're more crab leg people and not lobster but we decided to splurge for the lobster tail and boy it was worth it in spades!! THE VERY best lobster tail we've ever ate EVER! Our server was on the ball. He explained everything to us and our food came to us lickity split! This was by far our favorite restaurant on the property of the Hilton Playa Del Carmen. Well and the cafe with all the desserts! This is a MUST restaurant you have to go to if you like surf and turf! We may just go back on our last night. And bonus it's facing the ocean outside! Boom!

Chef's special of the day. Never in my years of eating seafood would I have ordered this but I will tell you I will order this millions times again. Soup was flavorful without all the shrimp taste. Tacos were well in size and equally as flavorful with the chipotle cream sauce. Just squirt the lime and eat away. Thank you again to Fredy, Victor, y manual for offering this dish to us. Was amazing!

We came here for breakfast and lunch. It's an outside eating area and you get a nice view of the beach. Service here is great. Everybody is very attentive. For the breakfast menu, I didn't care for as much. Nothing really wowed me. The waffle wasn't really crispy it was more doughy. Lunch menu was better. The salads were really refreshing. Of course the seafood dishes tasted fresh! There's a self serve taco bar that has really good tacos. The sauces are amazing and spicy!

This was our go-to most days for lunch while we stayed at the Hilton Adults Only All-Inclusive resort. The service was great, the views of the water was great and so was the food! Only reason they lost a star was due to all of the stray cats roaming through. I don't mind animals, but I'm allergic to cats. My favorite lunch item was the Rochalesa Shrimps. Oh my gosh. I loved this dish and had way too many! The shrimp is lightly breaded and is put over a bed of mashed potatoes. There is a "spicy" mango sauce that is drizzled over it. It's not spicy at all and I'm a very sensitive eater. The staff answered all of my questions and it really was a great place to have lunch after sitting by the pool. I can't say anything regarding breakfast or dinner due to us choosing other restaurants for those meals. However, this was a good choice!

    Awesome location!

Excellent beach front restaurant at the Royal! This was the first restaurant we went to on our vacation and I was thoroughly impressed. The restaurant is outdoors, covered, but not enclosed. It's the closest restaurant to the beach and has a wonderful breezy atmosphere/feel to it. To start you off they take your drink order and bring you chips and guac (request more, I did). For an entree, I ordered the steak. After a short wait, and the friendly service, my steak arrived and it was delicious. For "free" food, at an all inclusive, you wouldn't think the food was so good... but it is! Definitely enjoyed this restaurant!

I guess they weren't prepared for it to be this busy on a Wednesday night. The food was all really good, except for the fish. It was grilled well but tasted a bit dry. Only the top of the fish that was covered in sauce had flavor but it didn't seep through to the bottom of the fish. I recommend getting the Seafood Ceviche because they make it with coconut milk, which was different from all the other ceviches we had on our trip. Other than the slow service, this was a good experience. Seafood Ceviche 9/10 Crispy Jumbo Shrimps 9/10 Soft Shell Crab Taco 9/10 Fresh Catch of the Day (half garlic butter, half ictio) 7/10

Then came the whole fried fish -- crispy, golden, incredibly fresh, and topped with fresh onions, cilantro, jalapeños, and a charred lime on the side. It was so delicious I could barely put my fork down! The owner himself came out to check on us -- so kind, humble, and genuinely passionate about his food. Everything is made with the freshest local ingredients, and it shows in every bite. The flavors are bright, authentic, and unforgettable. ICTIO is an absolute must. Location 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4/5, Drinks 5/5, Clientele…read more2/5 *more on that below* This spot has one of the best beachside settings in Playa del Carmen. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
