Very bright and huge foot print! Definitely reminds me of products you would find in Japan. Because the store is less than 2 weeks old there are many items that have sold out already. To their credit workers are trying to keep up with stocking the shelves. Not all the food stalls are open in the food court. We tried the Waka Sushi and I made a separate view of our experience. Overall very happy there is a Don Don Donki in HI. Definitely hope that locals and tourists support the store because there is a lot that is offered in terms of both local and Japanese products. Don Don Donki is a good place that has mostly all your needs. The food section is good with your bentos, sushi, and a lot of hot meals. The only thing is they should have stayed in Waipahu. The move to Kapolei I didn't see to much people. In Waipahu it was always busy. read more

Been to Donki Kapolei several times since it opened. Things I like about is the produce section... very large, well stocked and all the fruits and vegetables are fresh, with many items like salad individually wrapped. Unfortunately, it can be a real challenge if you're looking for dry goods... those food items that come in cans, bottles, and boxes. They are spread out and not well organized. The food court is very nice, with lots of tables. My only gripe is the lack of variety in the food available. The old Waipahu store's food court had Filipino, Vietnamese, and Chinese, and local Hawaiian food stalls. Hopefully they will be opening soon... variety would be nice. Other than that, Donki is a great store and I'm super happy we got one in Kapolei. read more

Wow, what a neat experience! I already love Don Quijote so imagine an even bigger and better DQ. Who needs to visit Japan when we have a DDD right here in our backyard?! Is it just me, or are grocery stores soooo much fun? This place has more than just groceries, think Japanese kitchen appliances and home goods all wrapped up in a bundle. They even have clothes and really cute cards. Don't skip the snack section because there are aisles and aisles of fun stuff!!! So many fun snacks - filipino, Korean, Mexican, and even Vietnamese. You name it! Hungry? Worry not as there is a large food court inside the store as well. I walked past the freezer section and I think I just gained 10 pounds. They even have those viral ice cream cones shaped as a lemon, grape, and peach. Craving kimchi? I saw at least 8 different brands. Love natto with rice? I saw at least 6 different kinds. Want thinly sliced meat for at-home shabu? Good thing they conveniently have it in all ready in the freezer aisle. Craving watermelon but a fruit is too large because you live alone? It's a huge store and I'm not too familiar with the layout so I had to ask where to find certain items, the eatery area, and even the checkout lines. Finally got to check this place out since I live in town and rarely come to this side of the island. We arrived at about 7pm on a Saturday night. There was ample parking stalls open at this time. We parked by what I assumed was an entrance but was actually the exit of the store. We do not enter and exit from the same doors so park in the middle. Lol. There was an associate situated at the entrance greeting people. Take a shopping cart before you go in because they did not have available carts inside. First off, the place is huge! We were in there for about an hour and a half and still didn't get to every aisle. There's a huge selection of Gundam and Sanrio but be advised, the prices are pretty steep..especially on the Sanrio merchandise. They have beautiful produce though I did find mold on the strawberries. Walking through and I noticed there were quite a few items on display that had no price stickers. I hate wanting to buy something and not knowing the price. Perhaps they're still working out some kinks. The Asian snack shelves were pretty bare, otherwise they were pretty stocked on everything else. Because we came so late in the day, we didn't get to see their hot foods selections. Next time. Ended buying mostly drinks, (I love the bottle coffees and teas) a gundam that was on clearance for $20 and a few snacks. I'd never thought I'd write a review about a grocery store but my family really enjoyed this place during our visit during grand opening. Fairly crowded--but expected. Coming from the east coast not having a Don Don Donki, you can definitely feel the hypewith what this store has to offer. They got a cool Japanese toy section, kitchenware, t-shirts, Japanese stuff animals, hello kitty, makeup, groceries with all sorts of Japanese items, souvenirs, and a large food court. This Japanese store reminds me of Matsuwa but they have their branding locked. A penguin full of joy, their theme song that will probably drive everyone crazy, but during our visit, it gave such joyful vibes. Pretty wild that the store is open 24 hours too. Cheers read more

I had to check out this store since I do love Don Quijote. You know what's the best thing about this store? There are speakers playing the Don Don Donki song! I love it! That song is so contagious! But this store is a bit odd and is a bit like Ikea where there is only one way to enter and one way to exit. I don't know if I like it, but it does control shoplifting so whatevers. And you have to go through the checkout area if all you want is to get some food, which I think is a bit humbug if you wanna eat food and then go shopping. I mean, who would go grocery shopping and then go eat while their frozen goods thaw some. Just not a fan of that. Otherwise the store is a pretty standard Don Quijote in the US. I did like the sushi restaurant with the belt service. It was super quick! If there wasn't already two Don Quijote stores from town to here, I would take time to come here. But like I said, there are two Don Quijote stores that are closer for me to drive to. So I would only come out here if I already had something else to do. Welcome back to a much cleaner, better organized Don Quijote. I miss the Waipahu location was in my backyard and now I have to drive an extra 10 minutes on the freeway to get to this one. They need more employees and the worst was the self checkout line.DO NOT SCREW UP IN SELF CHECKOUT. You will be stuck there for 20 or more minutes trying to get the attention of the one clerk who's there to help 16 self checkout stands. Yes people will cut in line and wave him/her down even though you were the one waiting for him the longest. You know people of Hawaii, they rude. Other than that they still haven't fully setup everything. And I did not see the liquor in the liquor section. I was looking for a certain sake they usually carry. read more

I didn't think that I would go the first weekend it opened, but we did. It wasn't that bad. Although the shelves weren't stocked. I just wanted to compare it to the old store and the one in Japan. It was one way in and one way out, it was probably because they wanted to control the crowd. I doubt it will be this way all the time. Not all the food areas were open. It was hard navigating to find items and the staff wasn't that helpful. I did like the hot food items and it was tasty. They don't have their liquor license yet. I'm surprised that its 24/7. After covid, there aren't any stores that are open past 10pm. Hopefully the store will stay clean. The restroom was clean although there was no toilet paper and soap. I just had to go to the grand opening of the new Don Don Donki in Kapolei! Usually I avoid crowded shopping days like the plague (I have never and will never shop on Black Friday) but I couldn't miss this! The store is huge, but it still feels a little crowded (not just people-wise, lots of tight corners for a shopping cart and displays that create roadblocks) but I'll forgive them because OMG, there are some amazing prices going on! I don't know if it's just because it's grand opening, but don't miss the 2 for $5 packages of king mushrooms, and great pricing throughout the produce department. I tried some of the bentos and hot Hawaiian foods (the agedashi tofu in mushroom sauce is definitely something I'll be looking for whenever I'm there). It said there was pork and butterfish in the lau lau so I couldn't resist, but it was pretty light on the pork and I didn't really get any butterfish. Plus it was dry, which ruined it for me. Usually I'd assume they'd been in the steam tray too long but I got into the store at 9:20am or so and was out by 11:11.) The selection of Sanrio items was pretty large, and my Pochacco needs were nicely met. We'll come back to try out the restaurants and to get a better look at the full service meat and fish counters. Reminded me of the old Don Quixote but much newer and cleaner! Spacious aisles, and easy to get around. The bento section and the seafood sections were reasonably priced considering what i have seen in other Hawaii spots. My mom and I got some things to go, mochi, pickled mango, tako poke, she also got some frozen goods, S and A saimin etc. . Once home, we got to then food and it tasted as good as it looked. Ok, I was all hyped to come here this past weekend but left a little let down. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed walking through on their opening weekend but we came kinda late but walked out with some ono bentos but when I saw Wagyu skewers and I heard that they ran out of food. I thought, must be good yeah? We came back the following weekend and bought some Ono food from the store and then I left my wife behind so I could put our order in for the skewers. We put our order in for one steak plate and a set of two skewers so we could both share a skewer and the steak plate. As expected there were long lines. I don't mind that. I've waited for 45 minutes in a line in Amsterdam just for fries. Steak? Of course! I was even more excited that they told it was only going to take 10-15 minutes though. Yeah . . . No. It was more like 45. Good thing we had other food to munch on and I got an Ono orange creamsicle shake from one of the other shops. I went to check on our order and they had our steak plate done but the skewers were still waiting. I noticed one nice lady and her daughter that had ordered right before me so I just waited patiently . . . Until other people who ordered after us seemed to get their food first. Come to find out the orders got a bit of out order. Anyway, it's a busy place and I give the team credit for working really hard to keep up with a bunch of hangry people. They have a system but it wasn't keeping up with the work When I finally got to eating it, the steak was cold as it had been sitting for a bit. It had toughened up to the point it was just not even edible. The skewers though were amazing. Nice and juicy full of flavor. Next time If the lines are long. I'll just order the steak plate and give it another shot. If the lines aren't too long, I'll get the skewers again in a heartbeat. Will be back for sure. Nice to see this area of Kapolei getting revitalized. I miss the old Don Quijote Waipahu as it was closer to my house but this new location is very spacious and organized. Almost reminds me of old Shirokoya with all the little food kiosks inside and large seating area to eat inside and outside. They didn't have any alcohol with signs saying coming soon. Picked up a bunch of stuff still pretty affordable for some items. The asian products were on their own side of the store and there was a lot of regular products. Will be back especially to try the sushi bar inside. read more

Well what can I say for this don don donki store located in Kapolei the old Kmart store. We waited awhile till the crowd goes down. We got there about 10:15 am and wow found parking. Yes you need to enter 1 way and exit out from the food court area. Make sure you show your receipt because there's a security guard at the exit. The store still clean and man it's big. Didnt realized that the old Kmart store was that big. Going in and out looking for stuff was a challenge for me because of my leg problem but did my best to see everything. The food area is big from sushi, bentos, poke, wagyu beef, chicken. Lots of Japanese products also Well at least I went but still miss the old don quiote store in waipahu. Super fun store. Huge variety of products, I've never seen so many Asian imports which was really cool. Everything was fun. Felt weird because it wasn't very busy when we went. Massive store it was giant. Most of the stuff we got was really good, strawberry Sando was meh though. Strawberries were not good and brown and mushy. They open 24/7, so you can shop till drop! This is the news Dondon Donki at Kapolei, itis huge! The store makes us feel we are in Japan, they have so many discounted items on sale, I especially love the sushi section, we drove all the way from town just to visit this store and we are not disappointed. One tip, their entrance and exit is not at the same location, you enter the store closer to the west end of the store and exit at the east end, so, park you car close to the east side to avoid pushing your cart all the way back, also, once you checkout and pay for your items, you will be in the food court area with a lot of seating area. Local style--if a new store/restaurant is opening, especially a chain that was not previously in Hawaii, we locals will stand in line to go there. We will generally go there in droves for maybe two weeks to a month. Then things return to normal. So the new establishment shouldn't judge their success by the crowds that go there for the first month. So it is with Don Don Donki. People will not drive across the Koolaus or Hawai'i Kai like they might have done this past two weeks. So there will be plenty of parking and it will be easier to roll your cart down the aisle without bumping into another cart. The place is big. So yes, you can easily roll your cart down the aisle without bumping into a cart going in the opposite direction. There seem to be more Japanese and some Korean merchandise, than American. And there are those big signs (making you feel like you were in Japan) with the mascot. And I hope as time passes they will stop playing the jingle, Don Don Donki. It gets on your nerves and might be a reason to get in and out as soon as possible. Of the super markets- Whole Foods, Safeway, H Mart, Times and Don Quiote, Donki always seemed the more economical. So I know families that will shop at Donki for most of their food items. Except for the sale items (lost leaders) I'm not sure the items are all that cheap. So I might buy items that are harder to find because they are from Japan but not necessarily other items. And even then many of these items can be found at Times, Don Quiote and Marukai since they are all under one ownership. And even our Costcos have lots of Asian products. So I think the real reason you might continue to go there is because of the food court. When I went not all the restaurants were opened. But even the food items that were to-go inside the market were doing good business. So let's wait until all the outlets are open. read more

It was so nice I had to visit twice. Yes in one day lol I was excited to walk in through the first week of its grand opening Don Don Donki did not disappoint. I had initially worried a bit of the location as they moved from the spot over in Waipahu, however now experiencing it here in Kapolei, I must say that I love their new location much better! I feel like it will help their business to really thrive with this area being the up and coming spot with new homes nearby. I admired the ambiance as I went first thing in the morning around 7 in the morning there was no line and hardly any cars and the store was calm and quite empty. Its ambiance transported me to Japan with a slight nod to the Shirokiya vibe. It was very welcoming upon arrival and for the most part shelved were fully stocked and the store was huge! There was so much to see that took my time browsing and memorizing its layout. Loved the products and combination that only DQ can offer with items and groceries from Japan and also a lot of local favorites too. There was a hot bento section, poke, fresh fruits and produce, sushi and all of cute little toys and home goods in between. I picked up the Misoyaki Butterfish bento, Salmon bento $10.99! And Salmon sushi. The first time in felt like a dream and my wallet paid the price but it was worth it. The prices seem slightly higher than outside on most things however the items from Japan seem well worth the investment. After paying for your items it feeds into the seating area which is also huge for a few eateries and also a sushi restaurant which I will be trying very soon! The second time around I brought my husband and my daughter who were just as happy and impressed as I was. The only thing I didn't particularly care for as a first timer was their one way in and one way out which the exit is on the opposite end of the store. Aloha Don Don Donki Kapolei! Yayyyyy!!! You are here...and we don't have to travel to Japan to get all your goodies!! (We will go to visit yearly!!!)) So excited!! Saw the giant Strawberries..with the giant prices......so many fresh produce...beautiful pre packed Hot Pot Veggie trays.......fruits were fresh...some local produce were displayed.... Squash.....Ube.....fresh tomato's potato.....bananas....whole pineapples...yummmmy....yummmmmy!.........going further down...we curiously looked at trays of wagyu beef.....meat section...even had some Filipino meat delicacies...then to a huge selection of pre packed bento's......section for hot food....plenty local prepared hot food... Entrance and exits into and out of store are one way in and out. Sidewalks have no ADA compliant access except at near entrance and exit. Unable to safely walk to your car if parked in the middle of the lot. You have to walk in the street. No cart stations to put the carts except the front of the store. Produce; iceberg lettuce $3.99/lb for sandwich staple, all dried up and pathetic looking, there is no water spray misting. Had to ask employee if they decent lettuce; no more ugh! You expect the community to shop here for produce? Chinese parsley wilted. Local tomatoes outrageous pricing $3.99/lb and also overripe and bruised. Poor quality produce. The only saving grace for produce are the ones packaged in plastic bags. Even those are rotting within. Not worth the prices here and the inconvenience of having to walk the distance from parking lot to entrance and distance back to parking lot with this entrance/exit set up and non-friendly limited ADA access from/to parking lot. read more

I went to Don Don Donki because I was on the west side for work and wanted to see what they had for their Okazuya hot items. Their food is usually good, but today was an exception. As I'm walking to the showcase case, I notice they have corned beef and cabbage --yes! As I got closer, I saw the corned beef was burnt through, with no pink left. The baked spaghetti was also overcooked. I ended up buying some spicy Pastele and shoyu chicken, which was in another warmer and was self-serve. I then headed over to the alcohol section because I wanted to buy some Japanese Vodka. It was locked in the case, so I went to customer service for help. There were three people there, and one of them was working on a computer. The other two ignored me and were talking story as I stood there for a few minutes. One of them finally asked if I needed assistance! I'm literally standing there. What do you think I'm there for? Then he tells me I'll call someone to help you? What are you three doing there? The sign literally says Customer Service! My day doesn't end there. I now proceed to the self-serve checkout, where an older Filipino lady offers to help me even though I don't need it. I scan my first few items and then need to scale the hot Okazuya items; I have two of them. I put both on the scale because they are the same price, and she tells me I have to weigh them separately? Why, they're the same price! She starts looking for the scale item pricing but has difficulty finding it. She finally locates the Okazuya button and completes the first item. She puts the second item on the scale and, again, has to think about where she found the Okazuya menu for the scale. The process is the same! What is going on here? After helping me, she walks away to help another customer, even though I have an alcohol purchase that needs approval. I call her back, and she asks for my ID. After looking at my ID, she punches in the dates, and it won't take. She tries again, same outcome. I tell her she is missing one digit, but she doesn't listen to me and tries again; same outcome. After about 5 tries, I point out to her the mistake she is making, and she finally gets it right, after a couple of other tries! I finalize my purchase and leave! What a fiasco! read more

If there is a zero i will put that because of - 1. The lay out of the entrance and exit is so wrong. There is one way in and one way out. The place is so big- the layout and how each section, whether its from japan or US should be in one place and so as the grocery and food- it feels scattered. 2. When we are returning the carts, you have to return it all the way in the entrance when there is a return cart right across the exit. 3. The security guard starts yelling,cussing , threatening and even going to attack at a customer- just because she was asked why do we have to Return the cart all the way to the entrance when there is a cart station right in front of the exit conveniently and strategically placed for the customers to return to? 4. The staff ARE NOT FRIENDLY AND NOT ABLE TO ASSIST. since the store is big, its harder to find what you're looking for and it would be nice if the staff would be able to help.... i even see older customer in the self check out area - that the staff assigned there looked pissed when they assist customers Hey management! We, your customers would want to patronize your store BUT TRAIN YOUR PEOPLE WELL. We stopped at the store because of recommendation. First when you enter 'is it WalMart?' but then you move to the grocery side, and this is where it shines.
