I've gone to this place a few times and I will say I find their pizza to be good. Aside from that, the other dishes I've had were just ok. I'm reviewing today because we ordered the chicken parm and chicken francaise and the francaise was bland and tasted more like the egg mixture for the breading than anything else. The parm was alright and had more flavor but probably due to the sauce and cheese. For the price it was not worth it at all and it was such a let down. The inside is nice and feels homey and I believe they're also byob but I wouldn't visit again aside for a quick slice. read more

So the pizza isn't bad but it's not necessarily a place I'd order from again unless I was in the area. The crust was buttery and crispy around the edges but a little soggy toward the middle of the pizza. Tasted pretty good and it looked nice out of the box. I'm very disappointed. The food was subpar. The garlic bread was not even as good as the Shoprite garlic bread that comes in that foil bag. Calamari was half battered and looked half cooked. This place is open again. I think under new ownership. They have switched it up and done a more take out/slice menu. Not sure the pizza is the same yet: Great Italian pizza. The pizza dough is special. Can't believe I am tasting Italy here in little ole' South Amboy. Order more pizza than you think you can eat. They go down easy and then it's all gone. I'll start with location. I think it's a great spot with lots of street parking (and a small lot in the back). The restaurant itself is beautifully done, very clean and modern. Service was friendly but so slow. Our order took an extremely long time to come out (about 40 minutes for one pie), even though we were practically the only ones there. Our waitress never once checked in with us to let us know what was going on. Now here's my dilemma....I hate to give a new place a bad rating. The food is one of the biggest reasons to return to a place. Maybe we just didn't choose well. We ordered one small margherita pie. The sauce was watery and the crust soggy and tasteless. The cheese did taste pretty fresh. I bumping up my rating and maybe will return to try something different. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. This place used to be my go to favorite place for pizza by the waterfront. I returned here after six months bc of COVID distancing and ordered a veggie pie to go. They gave me the wrong pie. Thank goodness it was also meat free that we were able to eat it. To compensate they gave us one free pie. I figured it was an error and life happens so I said sure and gave them another chance. Once again we ordered veggie pizza. They gave us a CHICKEN pizza. Im gonna set my review under this Don Giovanni because the logo is the same as what I saw on the menu. Seems this place has had a reopen and there are two reviews listed, one with 14 reviews. I'm all about honesty and giving a fair review so what I write here might sting a little bit, but I promise in the end it won't be so bad. I really wanted to give this place a 4 star rating. The decor seems to fit this place well. Unfortunately, thats not all I can go based on. I started with their sangria. It was very good. I moved onto some appetizers, Friend Raviolis and the Fried Mac N Cheese balls. The raviolis were great, the Mac N Cheese were cold in the middle. I was truly disappointed, but our server was cool about it. Pizza came out. It was a simple plain pie with extra cheese & basil, nothing too crazy. With the place being empty and no pies coming out, I believe the oven was cooking to fast and burnt the bottom of the pie making it taste bad on half of the pie. Th other half was edible. The part that was good, the pizza was delicious. For dessert we had deep fried ice cream. I would scrap that off the menu. Even though we could finish it, I just didn't see this item being popular, it had a funny texture to it. Our server, which might be invested in the place, was super cool about everything and offered me a few items off the bill. I would put 0 stars if I could. Advertises contactless delivery and confirmed on phone. They said driver would call and leave food outside the door. Doorbell rang, my son in law opened the door, delivery guy standing there and handing him pen and receipt to sign. I would have turned him away if I was at the door. Called and spoke to "Manager" she said the driver does not understand English very well so he doesn't understand what contactless delivery is so he does it the old way. People beware of this place called King Kale which is linked to Don Giovanni. I ordered a bbq chicken salad through the Uber Eats App. The salad was suppose to have corn, black beans and shredded cheese. Also, on the app it offers extra toppings for the salad that I then therefore, decided to pay extra for which was avocado. When the order arrived the salad was missing half of the ingredients such as the corn , black beans and Avocado ( I paid extra). Not to mention when the salad arrived it had a poor presentation. It looked like a salad that I can make from home! I decided to google the number of this business and there was no phone number listed as I then decided to search by the address so therefore it gave me Don Giovanni. A man answered and I told him my issue with the order and then he apologized and said they have none of those type of ingredients for the salads that are being advertised on Uber Eats! He also stated that this has been going on for a while. Ok, but why not fix it?! People this is a fraud! Olaced an order . Said it would be done in 30 minutes . Walked over to pick it up and it wasn't even started yet . No apologies just an " well we are busy @ from the girl handling the orders . Now I get she was overwhelmed being the one girl there but an attitude is not what I needed . My pizza was sitting in top of the oven but my food was not done . 20 minutes later my food was done and handed to me again no sorry about the wait . My pizza was cold by this time but I wasn't hanging around anymore . When I got home I took out my fettuccini only to find a half filled container with barley any Alfredo sauce ( see picture ) when I walked back to show them what I recieved they argued with me telling me that was the correct t portion . Really ? 1/2 filled container is the correct amount of pasta . After going back and forth with the guy he reluctantly said he would make me another order. As he gave it to me he says if you want extra pasta you have to ask for it . Nasty . I live 2 blocks away but I wouldn't walk 2 feet to order from them again. We were going to Sciortino's and because of the waiting ( 45 min) we decided to give Don Giovanni's a shot. I went there on Friday night and we liked it. It was 3 of us and we had the Margherita, the Bianca and the Amici pizza's. Overall the Pizza is very good, ( its more on the Italian version Vs the American version of Pizza) fresh ingredients and I liked the olive oil twist, on the Pizza's. My daughter ordered Diet Coke and they don't have it. They have some other kind of diet cola that tasted too sweet. At any rate we also had 3 glasses of wine, 2 diet soda's (they are no name brand and come in a glass bottle nice touch for the feel of the restaurant but not practical) on they don't have a coke or Pepsi taste. not bad flavor just not the norm for NJ. We ordered the Don Giovanni pizza which can be com paired to an everything pizza but with ham not peperoni and the marghartia which is equivalent to plain. and I gota say while the pizza's were not bad...(different is the word here) they just didn't have any flavor. One review I read said a pizza from Italy. I'd have to agree never being there but I have heard about the pizza in Italy so I guess it is comparable. as I said it isn't bad just not what this Jersey Girl is used to. but...I gotta say, the biggest insult of the night. was the $100 bill when had upon leaving. We could have gotten twice as much food and drank alot more at scortions for that price and felt like I was eating at my grandmother house. It was okay but it wasn't worth the price. My wife and I went there for a nice dinner to celebrate Valentine's day. Being that this is South Amboy, we weren't expecting what we were about to experience. The first thing is that the décor is wonderful. It's pleasant to enter and the wood-fire stove is staring at you as you enter. The artwork and the bar were very nice and created a nice experience for us. We were excited to try some of the food and the menu was more than sufficient. It's not a typical NJ diner so the menu isn't vast, but what's on it is a good selection of high-quality options. We ordered an appetizer, called something like spiedeto, which was cheese wrapped with prosciutto, then cooked in the wood fire. It was absolutely delicious. We also had the Arugula salad which was a good-sized portion. Like the appetizer, this was spectacular. The balsamic dressing was wonderful. For our meals we ordered pizzas. I had the diavalo (pepperoni and chili flakes) and my wife had a custom pizza with sweet Italian sausage, carmelized onions and balsamic glaze. Both were tasty and a welcome change from traditional NJ pizzas. You could tell they used the best ingredients for the pizzas. The experience wasn't without it's flaws as I ordered a beer from the menu that was no longer on tap and instead of asking me if I wanted something different, they just brought me a different one. My wife also ordered a glass of wine that had some cork in it, however, they handled this wonderfully by providing a new glass and not charging us for any wine. Overall, the food was amazing and we welcome the attempt to bring a finer dining experience to our hometown. Once the service matures this will be the top of the list for places to eat in South Amboy. read more
