I used to love Amanos what is up with an answering service for a small town local pizza place! It's horrible ! So out of touch. It's like a corporate feel. Used to call get someone behind the counter ... explain menu talk to you. Now orders are wrong so cold. have to go through 10,000 steps and entrust some 3rd party with their credit card information. 3.5 stars which is decent. We had ordered the margarita with extra cheese, broccoli & tomato slice, sausage roll, plain slice, and an upside down Sicilian slice. The best ones were the upside down Sicilian and the broccoli & tomato slices. They were ok/good, but the broccoli & tomato slice needed to be seasoned. The upside Sicilian slice sauce was very good, but the bottom was overcooked. Those two the plain slice and the margarita slices and weren't that good. My husband didn't care for their sausage roll. 8/30/25 - Amano Pizza has been on my radar for several years. I have driven by this shop going to and coming home from softball numerous times and the smell coming out of there is nothing short of outrageous. It features a decent sized dining area and a very helpful and friendly staff. The place has great reviews and these are pretty accurate. Things I noticed: You don't often see a lady baking the pies but you do here. And she baked our pie to crispy perfection. I tip my cap. The pies are prepped in the kitchen and passed off to the aforementioned baker who takes over the process. This is another oddity as usually the front counter person prepares and bakes the pies. The pies are placed on a wire mesh tray and slid into the oven to bake. This results in a super crispy pizza. I ordered what they call an upside-down Brooklyn slice. This is basically a Sicilian slice with cheese on the bottom and sauce on top. Sound familiar, Trenton Tomato Pie lovers? The added flavor punch here is the sauce is loaded with cooked onions. When you combine all this with a delicious Sicilian flavored crust, it's a flavor bomb. Not limp at all. Great premium cheese taste. It's crunchy, chewy and moist. Super saucy. Everything you want. I also ordered a plain pie to bring home for the family but I had to grab one of those slices too. The plain was good but not fantastic. The wire mesh baking method definitely makes this thin pie come out extra crispy. And for something as thin and crispy as this, it isn't dry at all. There is no limpness at all. Again, the cheese is premium as on the other slice. What falls a little short here are the spices. It could use a little more oregano, basil and garlic to bring out the flavor a bit. Minor annoyances: They offer bottled soda and fountain soda. They don't have any sugar free bottled soda. That's a deal breaker for me. And tonight, they ran out of cups for the soda fountain. Decent slice of za. I came in with a few people and ordered several slices of different varieties to try. I will say that the pizza is really good but not the best. Their grandma pizza was absolutely delicious but I felt the margarita and plain cheese was a little salty tasting. We also really loved the hot honey pepperoni. The garlic knots were overly grease and had too much garlic. Service was excellent and they had plenty of seating. I definitely would recommend stopping in to try it out yourself. read more

Have you ever checked out Amano Pizza yet? I know they have multiple locations, I visited the South Amboy spot. Got a cheese pie and a cheesesteak. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the restaurant had ample seating and was clean. Was with my girlfriend (who doesn't like onions) so I got the steak "without". Ribeye, Cooper sharp cheese, and a seeded semolina roll. The roll was toasted but I don't think it needed to be, seemed like it would have been an even more solid roll without the toasting. I know they get them fresh daily from a bakery in Staten Island. Cooper Sharp is simply the best and ribeye is obviously what we're looking for here. It was more chopped than I personally prefer, but that's just a preference thing. The flavor was great. One of the better pizzas I've had in quite a while. They use Grande cheese which is the first thing that makes me happy when getting pizza. The crust was thin and crispy and there was a nice little bit of char on the bottom. I could have eaten this pizza all day long. I'd definitely go back and check out some other stuff from Amano, and get another cheese pie . Certainly ... Didn't Suck! read more

Hands down one of the best pizza spots I have tried, which is saying a lot considering we are lucky to have an abundance of pizzerias in the NYC/NJ area. We were able to call ahead to place a pick up order and the pizza was ready in about 15-20 minutes. I highly recommend trying the Brooklyn Upside Down pizza which is one of their recommended specialities. For just two people, this one pie fed us three times so portions are nice and large. Ordered a large plain pie, for the Superbowl. First, they upped the price to $25. Second, the time was supposed to be 2 hours, took more than 2.5 hours. Third, the large pie was the size of a medium pie. Fourth, the pie was awful! Never go there again! Purchased a pizza stone and making one at home in the future. Lesson learned. read more

Regarding sub sandwiches.... In all the places I have ever ordered a full sub sandwich, they were 12 inches long. Apparently Amanos has sub sandwiches which are 9" long. Not acceptable. I know this sounds petty, but 3 INCHES is a Big difference. read more

Omg.... I had their regular Sicilian as well the Brooklyn upside down pizza. Both were top tier amazing!!! The perfect amount of toppings and crunch. Nothing was falling off or sloppy. No droopy oil or anything. I feel like my soul was fed. I took it to go. Next time, I'll be sure to ask for my pizza extra hot because it was cool after my 3 min drive home. From the pizza to the salads and sandwiches, everything here is worth a try. Employees are very friendly and welcoming and the place is always spotless. No one called me, the delivery driver made no mention of this. Been a customer since they opened and have spent thousands of dollars over the years keeping these fucker's open. We ordered a grandma pie, penne vodka sauce with shrimp and some garlic knots. This was the best grandma pie I have ever had and the penne dish and garlic knots were excellent. After reading the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. The place is comfortably small and follows a primarily white color scheme. It has a small dining area, which is comprised of tables that seat up to 2-4 people. The ordering counter is situated at the rightmost side of the restaurant and behind it is also where the pizza is cooked. Drink refrigerators stand next to the counter and a vertical assortment of wine bottles is mounted on a wall in the dining area. We ordered the Grandma pie and Hubs said that this was one of the best pizzas that he ever had. He thought it was very saucy and not overly cheesy. Crust was nice and poofy. Daughter thought it was perfect. I felt that this was very carby, so I also ordered the sausage and pepper roll. The roll was a disappointment because it lacked protein. Even though it's supposed to have sausages in it, I really didn't see any. Hubs felt that this was reheated several times during the week. Service was friendly and quick. We have returned to AMANO many times and their pizza doesn't disappoint. They have unique and delicious options for pizza, rolls and hero's... what's not to love. BBQ wings are my son's favorite from here. They are smokey and sweet. The 'honey-roni' pizza is also very good. It's a good combination of savory, sweet and some heat. Their upside-down square pie is also amazing. Mozz sticks, fried calamari, garlic knots, poppers, etc are all standard pizza joint food and all hit the mark. Looking at the appetizers I see Sweet Chili fried calamari which I will absolutely try next time. I also plan on trying more of their hot and cold hero's since those are items that I believe take a typical pizza shot to the next level (moving my rating from 4 to 5 would require great hero sandwiches which all starts with the bread). read more

Came here after seeing them being featured on TikTok so had to come check out this Devour Power recc! We made the trip from Jersey City and it was well worth it. Wish I took pictures of all the food (too eager to eat)- but we got the garlic knots, wings, pasta with sausage, pasta with meat sauce, penne vodka with chicken and the hot Francese Sandwich- everything ordered was 10/10. Food was piping hot, fresh and full of flavor. What topped everything off was the sweet staff. The owner( I think) came and apologized to me for being short staffed and gave me and my family these amazing cheesecake stuffed waffle cones on the house!!! Just an update. Previous review may have been a bit harsh and I've found that their Margharita is what it should be and love it. Their Grandma too is better than I may have initially may have rated it. There's a reason for that, and I won't get into it as it would be a bit long. What an amazing pizzeria!!! No matter what I get there, it is so good. My favorite has to be the shrimp parm hero. I got the ceasar chicken wrap with fries last time i was there, the chicken was tender, the wrap was filling, might be up there, in my top 3 from there, from now on. The place is always super clean and the staff is top notch. You dont have to go all the way to Brooklyn for some of the best Italian food, you could find it right in South Amboy.
