2/21/26 - Read a lot of the reviews on Delios Pizza in South Amboy and decided I needed to give it a shot. Notes: when you walk into Delio's, you truly have stepped back into the 1970s. As you can see from the pics, it doesn't look like they've changed a stick of furniture in this place since they opened. Both owners were on premise today when I ordered my pies. When you meet these people, you will feel like you are talking to your grandma and grandpa. That alone gives my review a boost. I ordered a grandma pie (of course) and a pepperoni pie. Both were very good. Both pizzas are firm and stand up nicely as you are eating. The sauce is very tasty, but there's not enough of it on the slices. Both pies could also use a bit more Italian spices. And both pies could have stayed in the oven for another 2 to 3 minutes. Parking is a bit of a headache here too. And Im not crazy about their cash only policy but when you see grandma and grandpa, these things are very forgivable. Overall Rating: B read more

Delio's is the place to go if you want to pick up a quick slice in between running errands! It's run by an elderly couple who do everything from A-Z to keep the shop going. Friendly and cozy interior with plenty of tables. Cash only so come prepared! read more

Wonderful pizza and how its supposed to be. Those old enough can tell the difference. So glad I stopped in and was worth missing the bus for a slice. Will plan better-- according to another customer the sausage and pepper with cheese rolls are delicious but take 10 mins to heat up to perfection. Ambiance reminds me of my childhood. read more

Grandma and grandpa are running this pizzeria with tons of love and character you can taste it. making the best meatballs sub I've ever tasted. Meatballs are very tasty sauces sweet worth the trip. It's the meatball I travel an hour and a half form Brooklyn to smell Monday's freshly cooked meatballs. Delio's is Delicioso! Let me tell you somethin'. Growing up between Brooklyn and Jersey, I know a good slice when i see (and eat) one. Being rather new to the area, we were on the hunt for the pizza spot to make our family friday night ritual complete. Delio's sicilian is so spot on, nothing else compares. We tried Krispy's in Old Bridge. Been to Sciortino's a million times. This was it. Delightfully crispy crust on the bottoms, the cheese isn't heavy and the sauce is impeccable. I love how old school this place is, sends me right back to Bay Ridge on 3rd Ave. This Nonna and Nonno not only captured our taste buds, but they captured our hearts as well. Delio's was the second spot we went to for our South Ambon pizza crawl, and it was still amazing even though we weren't even hungry! We came on a Tuesday night so it was fairly empty but the warmth was still very present in the restaurant--there was a tiny Italian woman who welcomed us and threw our slices in the oven, and she was so sweet! She threw in an extra slice for free for us. The interior is filled with so much history--family portraits on the walls, the menu sign hanging that looks like it's vintage, and all their decor. This is a restaurant with local history and legacy, and it's so wonderfully refreshing to eat at places like these. No frills, no tricks, no gimmicks, no trends. Just a family and their honest business in good, hearty pizza. Pizza itself was crusty, cheesy, and generous. Couldn't recommend it more! read more

I'm back for a third visit this month! Today I learned her name is Catherine. I got a delicious white slice & she put in a half regular slice. She remembered I like my slices piping hot! If you don't burn the roof of your mouth it's not hot enough. The regular slice was delish. Perfectly seasoned with a homemade red sauce & a flavorful thin crispy crust! She makes everything from scratch. No canned tomatoes here. High quality cheese. I don't know when I will have business in this town again but you residents are very lucky to have this authentic pizza shop! I can only visit this place in my daydreams since I live 2 hours away; in a land where pizza isn't made by Italians & they still don't know what a bagel is. Mangia you lucky people. read more

45 years making the pizza that I judge all others against. 45 years, the same wonderful couple at the same location. Think about how special that is! I was born and raised in South Amboy...so much has changed. People have come and gone, businesses have come and gone, mega storms have come and gone. Delio's is still there; think how special that is! I visited Delio's on my last trip back east, Mr. Delio told me that they had been at the same location since 1972. I responded that I knew; I remember my Mom ordering then sending us up town to pick up, I remember getting a slice and coke for lunch during my high school years, I remember watching their daughters grow up. Enough tripping down memory lane. Perfect fold in half, drippy red grease, burn the roof of your mouth pizza. The crust is amazing, the sauce is just right (not too sweet, not too thick). The Sicilian pizza is thick with a soft inside, crisp outside with globs of stretchy mozzarella. The pasta dishes are old world and delicious, I especially love the Eggplant Parmigiana as a dinner or a sub. My sister has sworn by their meatballs since we were old enough to walk up town. The calzones are classic with home made dough, Ricotta and Mozzarella inside; get a side of sauce for dipping. The interior hasn't changed since 1972, I giggle to myself that the Italian National Team poster has been on the wall as long as I can remember... I wouldn't change a thing if I could. Parking is street or in the City Hall lot behind. Cash only. Go have a slice and soak up the history, order a pie and enjoy. Cheers! read more

Old school Italian pizzeria not trying to be something they're not. Excellent pie some of the best in the area; sandwiches are generous not sure where they get their rolls but have that crusty bite. For years, I would drive by this place and I never thought to stop in. However, I'm so glad I was recommended to try this place because it sure is good! The pizza here takes a bit of time but that's only because it's prepared for perfection literally. No exaggeration this place is top 5 places I have ever had a single slice from. Classic Italian Pizza Joint. The pizza is good for the local area but it is not the best. It is operated by a sweet Sicilian couple for over 40 years. It is a bit old I bet that the restaurant looked pretty much the same since it opened. They probably kept the recipe the same since they opened. It is a bit greasy for my taste. When I hear people hyping up certain restaurants, I usually try to ignore it the best I can. I like to keep an open mind on a new place, and have my own opinion on it. So anyways, I tried out Delio's, because all I've been reading on Yelp is that Delio's is second to none, and the reviews make it sound like their ingredients come from the Garden of Eden. Nope, sorry Delio's. Nice try though. I had the pleasure of meeting the nice Italian couple who run the place. They really are polite to their customers, which I can appreciate, since bad service is so common here in NJ. Inside their store, they keep a lot of family pics hanging on the walls, along with a lot of small religious statues standing around the cooking station. Nothing fancy, but makes it a real comfortable setting. We had a large pie with "The Works". The pizza had a good amount of toppings: pepperoni, peppers, mushrooms, onions.. I would definitely go back to try other items on their menu. It's good pizza, don't get me wrong. But life-altering? No... If you're looking for a mind-blasting, out-of-body pizza experience, head down the street from Delio's, and you'll find it... *cough*SCIORTINO'S*cough* read more

You want this place to both be recognized as one of New Jersey's best (if not THE best) while at the same time wishing it to remain "undiscovered" and remain as is. Absolutely some of the greatest pizza I've ever eaten, and that includes every marquee place in NJ, NYC, Chicago, (wood ,coal, gas, whatever) and all points in between. Perfect crust on a basic tomato pie. Perfect sauce/cheese ratio and flavor. Obviously high quality ingredients and a lot of care. The owners have that "pride and hospitality" thing happening, about which way too many other eating establishments at all levels remain clueless. Can't wait to go back! read more
