Don Hegge Electric is the BEST! As a real estate agent in here in the valley - we count on our vendors to take good care of our clients. We just moved to the Coachella Valley and Don Hegge Electric (not to be confused with Hegge Electric Contractors) was recommended by the lighting company where we bought ceiling fans in the area. Quoted prices to hang 3 fans were comparable to what we had paid in Orange County. Victor was on time and pleasant and his English was very good. He hung 2 fans (one was a 16' high ceiling) and the 3rd one was in the kitchen. As he was cleaning up to leave I turned the kitchen fan on high and it wobbled. I asked him to balance it and he said that he wasn't going to balance it because he was already late for his next appointment. He added that balancing it could take 15 minutes or it could take half a day. Then he added that with a gas stove I shouldn't use the high setting anyway. WTH? Obviously, I wasn't satisfied with his replies and he said the fan would be fine. When I asked if he could guarantee that it would not be a problem, he said, "yes." The fan continued to shake and started making a loud noise that evening. When I sent an email to Don Hegge about the problem, AOL notified me that the email address on his business card was not active. I then sent a message to his office through his website. After no reply, I called and left a message. After several days Don called and notified us that they do not balance fans. We were not told this up front. However, he said that for $45 more he will send out someone to balance it. The fan still wobbles but the noise is less when on high. The other 2 fans do not wobble and are silent even when on high. Kitchen fan is a $400 Casablanca. The other 2 fans cost $600+ and almost $500 respectively. Don Hegge Electric charged us $265 to hang 3 fans, plus the additional $45 on the 2nd trip to balance. We've had many fans hung in the past and have never been told hanging did not include balancing. We won't be using this company again and I will certainly not recommend them for any work. read more

They answered the phone (so many places just have answering machines). I spoke to Don i had a main breaker that kept tripping every 10 mins also smelled like it was burning. He had me send him a picture of the panel asked if wires went from roof or underground knew immediately what was happening. He called Edison and got someone to come out and unlock ring to meter so they could shut power off to the pole. Edison was out within an hour then Don's guys showed up 40 mins later replaced the breakers a d had my air back up all within about 4 and a half hours. Amazing service great price. Hegge electric came highly recommended to us by several neighbors, thus the lack of a 5 star overall rating is more a reflection on reviewers then on his business (Refer to the length of the negative reviews). We had a quote for a 240V outlet to be installed. He showed up on time, performed a very thorough inspection, provided a very competitive quote to us within 24 hours and was nothing but professional throughout. This is much more than can be said for a competitor who showed up late, performed only a cursory inspection (which was concerning) and took three weeks to the day to provide a quote which was significantly more expensive. While this specific competitor has a higher overall rating it seems they achieved this by demonstrating how to use TV remotes and hang TVs on walls. That is what YouTube is for. Stick to the professionals like Hegge for the complex work. Realize you pay for the quality of work being done. If it is perceived to be a simple task give it a go yourself first before complaining about cost. read more

After a bunch of outdoor plugs and a variety of indoor plugs stopped working, and flipping the breakers didn't solve the problem, I called Don Hegge to schedule an in-home visit. I described the issue and based on his knowledge of houses in the area, he suggested I look for a separate GFI switch in the garage to reset. Once I found it (who knew a GFI switch would be randomly placed in a garage?!?) and reset it, all the plugs worked again. Thanks to Don Hegge for his help over the phone. He saved me the cost of a visit and more importantly, let me avoid an unnecessary exposure during this pandemic. I will definitely be a "return" customer when/if I need future help. read more

I had an Electric Company come out to my house to give me a price for installing a watering timer which I had already purchased that conserves water. The employee of this electric company produced a 3 ring binder with charges that he had to get approved before starting the job. All he had to do was disconnect the existing timer and put this one in its place. The estimate was well over $600 ! I ask him to get off my property! I then found Hegge Electric and had him come out to estimate the job. His price was 1/3 the price of the 3 ring binder company and he did a fantastic job! Everything was done to my liking and he cleaned up everything perfectly. First of all may I say Don heege is very knowledgeable on older homes he and his staff were able to troubleshoot items that other people were unable to do. I had a shopping cart full of items that I wanted to have done on my multi-unit property , plus running new electrical at another property. The work was to be done when they had spare time between jobs and there was no deadline. While I was in the middle of another job on the property Don's guys showed up without any notice or even a advance call, so I had to go scrambling to get materials and parts for them to install some ceiling fans outside lighting and resolve a couple other electrical issues. When the bill came in it was humongous, let it be known that I paid for the majority of the parts but his staff did go to the electrical supply house to buy a few items a couple hours later the electrician showed back up and installed the minuscule parts include light bulbs I already had 4 recessed lighting and some outside security lights. The outside security lights are not mounted properly in the range of coverage evenly across the front of the property and they were just seemingly to be thrown wherever they wanted then rather than going around the corner and putting it down a walkway they left that area completely dead without any lighting. [remember rentals need lighting to avoid injuries and law suits]So my complaint is more amount of time that it took to accomplish these tasks and where the positioning of the lighting was installed. I have made don aware of these problems originally years past and have been waiting till one day his crew is back out here to rectify the problem. Don personally reduced the bill knowing that it was excessive and I was going to wait until the next time that his crew was going to be out here to resolve the other problems of moving the lights. Come to the current situation I'm ready for some additional work and have been in contact with Don for many months, now his bookkeeper returns my phone call and claims I had a remaining balance that was never paid and they refuse to do any additional work for me. That's really interesting since I negotiated the bill with Don eons ago as she knew that there were some definite major mistakes in their workmanship. Guess my next electrician will resolve the lighting issue. For the office staff running off business remember this when times slow down for you! read more

The Don Hegge company came to my condo and installed 6 led lights and some dimmer switches. the quality of the work was excellent . The unrealistic charges of parts was not professional & bordered on price gouging. The kiddie $20 smoke alarm that was installed cost me $112 dollars for the item plus the going electrician rate . Don Hegge is a bully, and he will rip you off because he advises his workers to chat you up for a substantial amount of time, and he will bill you for the unnecessary chat time. That's his con. He works just like lawyers do, by deliberately not answering questions and forcing you to restate your case so they can bill you more- Twice his workers came to my house and told me the job I wanted done couldn't be done, and in both cases they completed the job the said they couldn't do, while billing me extravagantly for the time they spent erroneously chatting me up and telling me it couldn't be done! It's a con. You will pay more than you need to with this contractor, and they prey on older customers who don't understand electric work that well and place their trust in him. He thinks people are stupid and won't figure out his game. Thank god for the internet, which gives you a voice and warns you of shysters like Hegge. read more

He could have recommended we have him rewire the doorbell, but instead he told us we could get a cheap doorbell at Home Depot and it would be too expensive to rewire the doorbell.
