Not good. Enchiladas had a sauce nothing like a red sauce and very deep brown in color. Beef taco as most places. Rice as most places. Beans runny and zero flavor.first margarita was good. Second so sour you could not drink it. Instead of removing 2nd drink gave 10% off which didnt cover cost of drink, not drank. Service ok. Very thick chips, if you like that. Was looking for a replacement for my favorite local across the road but this is definitely is not it. Will try Urbana next time hoping for a better local with American Mexican. I wanted to update my review & say 2 things: First, the cheese dip has been getting thinner & thinner it is literally liquid now it is so unappealing. Second: the service there has been slacking. I hope management sees this so they can talk to their waiters. We go often but lately the servers literally just stand in the back right side by the bar & talk the whole time while customers are: waiting for them to check on the food few minutes after drop-off to ensure everything is good & to see if anything is needed, waiting too long for the bill to arrive, ect. I was a server for 8 years myself so I know from experience that is a big no & looks unprofessional. Yesterday during our visit I asked for utensils which I got literally 10 minutes later and not even from our server because she was busy talking to the other servers who just all stand around but instead the bartender, because he noticed we kept glancing over at the servers to get their attention, which they noticed, yet kept talking. Unacceptable. The time before, the same thing happened when they were standing around & we were waiting about 15 minutes to pay and had to walk up to them to ask to pay, right after another table walked up to them about 2 minutes before we did. Management, hope you see this & have a talk with your servers about being attentive & professional, checking in on tables after food drop off then again about 10 minutes later, or your business will attract less people. Where to begin... Came for lunch on Labor Day. The place was empty except for two other tables. Each with 3-4 people. There were 2 waitstaff. No bartender. For the children: 2 kid's quesadillas with fries, 2 kid's chicken tenders and fries, 3 lemonades, a sprite, and a cheese dip. For the adults: speedy Gonzalez with beans, 3 special tacos, Bahama Mama, Modelo draft, and a guacamole The waitstaff do not seem to be experienced. They looked confused and lost. They also had very tough time with communication. The speedy came out first but it was with rice instead of beans as requested. The cheese on the taco was not warm. The dish looked okay. It was not tasty. It was odd. Unremarkable and flavorless. Then the kids' meals. The chicken looked like it was leftover bits cut off chicken breasts to even the shape. The breading tasted like hush puppy breading and it was tinged yellow. The chicken was not good even smothered in ketchup. The guacamole came out along with the cheese dip. The avocado in the Guac was chunky which the hubby likes. It looked fresh and had a lot of chunky vegetables. The cheese dip was very runny and did not taste good. The tacos my husband ordered never came out to our table, they were mistakenly taken to another table but we only figured that out when the waitress asked the other waitress about them. She said she brought them to another table. Interestingly, the other table didn't refuse them. We never got our adult beverages either. When we complained and stated we just wanted to pay our ticket, the waitress didn't even take off the food or drinks we didn't get. We pointed at the items and told her we never got them, she asked if we wanted separate tickets. Ugh. No! We never got them, take them off the check! She finally did and we paid and left. The place has a nice feel to it, a little dark as there weren't many lights on. Looked clean. The staff were friendly but definitely inexperienced. It's unfortunate. Cons: servers not very attentive and they use a tablet/device so you have to repeat your order if they can't enter it in their device quickly enough. Water drips from the AC vents above the tables. We asked for straws and just ended up getting them from the bar ourselves. Our check never arrived and once we stood by the door someone asked if we needed anything. This place is friendly, and the owners really care and listen to their customers. If you are front the SO California area, stop in and tell the owner you are there for a San Diego 2 taco combo with rice and beans. The facility is comfortable and the staff very friendly. When it came to the food, it tasted good but was cold. The plates are plastic and cold. I would highly recommend they use ceramic dishes so it would help the food temp. The grilled chicken burrito was so dry, it was hard to chew. Need a new place to eat?! This is it. Our very first time in, one of the managers was walking around and explained things in the menu, which has pictures!!! There are items on the menu that are hard to find in surrounding areas like sopas and quesabirras (dip tacos!). They have a gooooood selection of drinks too including my new FAVVVV, the Mezcal Rita! Not a lot of restaurants have Mezcal. I recently ordered the Pollo con Chorizo and the chicken was SO tender! Ordered draft beer, and a mixed drink. Ordered street tacos, de Barbacoa and lengua que son mis carnes favoritos. Pero. Nunca llegaron. They never came. My wife's food did and I'm patient. Figured they may be understaffed and we were only the 3rd group there at lunch time. My wife ordered speedy. Taco was under heated. She ordered beans but got rice instead. Kids didn't like the chicken tenders as they are chicken strips fried in a thin breading. Not much finger nor tender in them. I never got to eat because my food never came. Apparently it was given to another table I guess. I never got my beer. Staff never realized what was missing as they never checked on us and they were busy taking in new customers. We came on a Tuesday for dinner after noticing the now open sign. There was a Mexican restaurant in this space before Don Jose that my family didn't care for but we decided to give this place a try. We like Don Jose a lot better and will be back! The menu is pretty extensive and felt a little different from most Mexican restaurants around here. We ordered mini tacos, burritos, elotes, and margaritas. We also tried two new dishes based on the staff's recommendation. Everything was really good. My only complaint is that the service was a little slow. We didn't seem to have a dedicated server for our table. There were 2-3 people that we're in and out to take our order and check on the table. Everyone was very friendly and the man who took our order (maybe the manager or owner) gave great recommendations. read more

Went for lunch during a weekday. Not busy at all but service was still slow. Margaritas are kinda weak for a mexican restaurant. I had the tacos. The beef was dry but the cabeza and pork was good.
