She also brought our food out and checked on us a couple times. Great customer service. I got the chicken and queso bowl and my friend tried the San Antonio taco, the beef barbacoa taco, and the pork pastor taco. The food was good, but not "I have to go back and get this again" good. Strange Taco Bar in Lawrenceville is one of those places that immediately makes you wonder why you waited so long to try it. The space itself is swanky in a relaxed way, cute, well decorated, and open and inviting without trying too hard. From the moment I walked in, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and somehow already knew exactly where my to go order was, which felt like a small but impressive win. The restaurant was spotless and the parking lot deserves its own shout out. It was a decent size and easily handled my honkin big truck without any awkward maneuvering or silent prayers. That alone earns points. Now let us talk about the food, because wow. Everything was made exactly how I ordered it and tasted incredible. I went with three tacos and each one brought something different to the party. The daily special curry chicken taco was bold and flavorful in the best way. The OG with grilled chicken was classic and perfectly executed. The steak and queso was rich, savory, and downright dangerous in how fast it disappeared. The flavor profiles were spot on across the board and each taco held its own. Ordering online was quick and painless, which made the whole experience even smoother. Strange Taco Bar gets a solid 3/5 from me... and honestly, that's on me. I walked in expecting the kind of tacos you'd get from a gas station taqueria with a lady pressing tortillas by hand and a salsa that could make you rethink your life choices. Instead, I got the $2 Taco Tuesday special and decided to "sample the classics"...chicken, ground beef, and pork. Big mistake. Each one was drier than a group text after a bad joke. I ended up baptizing them in verde and hot sauce just to make it through. Now, the Totchos... completely different story. Crispy, cheesy, loaded with flavor. If the tacos were a misstep, the Totchos were the redemption arc. That bowl alone almost saved the meal. The ambiance was chill though... relaxed vibe, clean tables, cold Coke Zero, and a playlist that made waiting out my food slump bearable. The staff were kind and easygoing, no rush, no attitude. Moral of the story: don't show up trying to recreate your abuela's kitchen when you're clearly in a modern taco bar with craft beer and mango jalapeño margaritas. What a very interesting place oh and name. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was very clean. This was my first visit here and I was happy the menu was easy to understand. Although I'm not a taco girl this place was pretty good, with its unique twist on tacos. I ordered the San Antonio and the Al Pastor tacos and they had a pretty good taste to them. I particularly liked the mushroom taco, although the buffalo taco was not bad either, but not as unique. Basically tasted like a buffalo chicken wrap you'd get at any sports bar. The margaritas were just okay, but a great addition to the tacos. The tacos were definitely the STAR OF THE SHOW. This place has been on my radar and I'm so glad I finally got a chance to try it! This is very similar in aesthetic to Velvet Taco so if you're a fan of non-authentic tacos you'd really enjoy this place. There is such a wide range of taco options ranging for pescatarian, vegetarian, and even some vegan options which is very commendable for a business. They're solid options too, not just bland boring options. Portabella Mushrooms 7/10 -- decided to try a veggie taco bc the description was just that enticing. I actually really enjoyed the taco and I loved the goat cheese edition. I could actually see myself trying this meatless option. Coconut Shrimp 8/10 -- cannot go wrong with a coconut shrimp option! The pineapples and sauce complimented the taco very well! Southern Pork 9/10 -- this was hands down my favorite taco! Perfect combination of sweet and spicy! Ordered a strawberry frozen margarita. This is a great spot for unauthentic tacos. The food came out quickly and everything was good. They have a great covered patio and inside seating. I got the chips and salsa and I really liked the salsa. It was also a huge portion. I got the OG pork and the southern pork tacos. The southern pork was definitely my favorite, it was so good and the bbq sauce they put on it was delicious. The OG pork was ok but for some reason, the person who took my order assumed that I didn't want onion and cilantro even though I never mentioned that and so it was just pork and a tortilla. Luckily two sauces came with it and those added flavor but I would stick with doing the unauthentic flavors because that seems to be the best. They also had a special chimichurri steak taco that was also great. The biggest issue for me was my server taking things off of my taco without me asking because I definitely wanted the onions and cilantro and the fact that the tortillas were cold. Wife and I came in to try the place out for lunch. We both were just looking for a basic taco that was NOT from Taco Bell. Came into this place at about 1pm on Wednesday 12/22/21. Place was moderately busy; its a walk up to order place with sparce seating inside but also patio seating. Menu is eclectic with basically tacos and bowls but with many different flavors. I went with the "original gangster taco" which is grilled chicken, onions, cilantro on flour tortilla. I got 2 of them, they're pretty small but extremely tasty; the chicken has an excellent flavor though I couldn't quite figure out the seasoning, but very delicious. The onions are diced which makes it less messy. I asked for grated cheese on the side so I could try it both ways. My wife had the "original gangster" bowl which was the same as mine but with rice instead of tortilla. She really enjoyed it. The ambience of the place is eclectic with kind of a hip trendy crowd that frequents the place, younger people, many students. The prices are excellent especially for the times right now. I paid $3 per taco, my wife paid $4 for her bowl, and for the flavor you really can't beat that anywhere. I had a Calypso banana lemonade bottled drink, perfect pair. Parking in the rear is hideous, no room for big trucks so be prepared to park on the street. So it's not a full blown Mexican cantina or anything but for a small taco joint its a definite go, and I highly recommend. read more

The street corn was in a cup which I liked so i didn't have to bite into a cob. The service was friendly and food is delivered fast and convenient to your table. I didn't like that the fans were blowing because it made it kind of cold in the restaurant especially on a day that is not so warm outside. The fans caused my food to be not be as hot. I did like the music and atmosphere. The seating wasn't as comfortable as I would have liked, but it was sufficient. There is seating inside and outside patio. Downtown Lawrenceville, parking mostly in rear. Outdoor and indoor seating available these Covid days. Staff manages well with Covid restrictions and seem quite capable of dealing with the situation at hand. Now for the real deal. First timer. I've been to many similar places around the country. This is the only one that had duck tacos and I loved it. Perhaps if there was just a hint of a thicker sauce it might be claimed as the perfect taco. For my duck I use a raspberry sauce that could go well here. The street corn was good bordering on great. Just a smidge of more spice would be appreciated. It was cooked perfectly. Cajun coconut shrimp was outstanding. The salsa was fresh with a delayed kick of heat. It's not a lot but it is noticeable and well balanced. The chicken taco was probably my least favorite. I did my homework and was set on the fried clam taco but they were out. Shocking! Right? Overall great staff, great experience. I'll be waddling back soon. Stay safe and wear those masks. read more

Strange Taco has very friendly staff and a HUGE variety of food genres reimagined as, you guessed it, tacos! This is an excellent, super casual option (order at the counter and take a number) for when everyone in your group is craving something different. First, their queso and chips are PERFECT. As a side, the black beans come with pico and a slice of avocado, but the beans themselves aren't cooked super well and have no flavor. As for the tacos, they were all pretty good. We loved the steak & queso, mahi mahi, and buffalo chicken tacos. The coconut shrimp and gyro tacos were pretty good. The only one that was disappointing was the fried green tomato taco, and this is only because the tomatoes were over-fried to the point of being hard and chewy. The flavors were all amazing, though, so I'm sure they're usually great. We will def be back -- we have sooooo many more menu items to try out and this place seems like it could be a solid option to put into our regular restaurant rotation. read more

(Delivery Review) The Delivery: When ordered it came in a paper bag with the food covered, very standard can't complain about that. The bag is sealed if i remember correctly so you should know if people ate out of your food which is always a bonus. The presentation: The food was put in these chipotle-like brown bowels with a clear cover on top of them, sadly the lids did not stay on the bowls during transport. The Taste: Okay so here is the juicy part, first up is: (Cheeseburger Bowl) This was by far the worst thing i could have ordered on the menu. The rice was crunchy as if it was overcooked or not even cooked enough, that immediately made me put down the bowl. Last time I checked the rice isn't supposed to be crunchy.......and it was the same for other bowls too. (Tochos) This bowl had queso with tater tots, and honestly this was the only good thing to eat here. After having hard rice from the previous bowl, it def made me not want to eat but this gets a pass, not that hard to mess up tots with queso and beans on top thankfully. The Conclusion: Stay away from this place, it is not worth ordering out or even stopping by for a lunch. Save your money, don't ruin your date, and go somewhere else. Located on the edge of downtown Lawrenceville strange taco is in a small stand alone building. Parking can be difficult. They have a small parking lot in the back but it's kind of hard to get in an out of. I recommend parking in the free parking deck a little further down and walk thru the adorable downtown. The restaurant gives industrial gas station vibes with tables inside and outside on their patio. It is walk up counter service if you ever needed anything. My friend throughly enjoyed her vegan tacos and said that the portions on the guac were awesome! I got the Nashville hot chicken taco, the fish taco, and the steak and queso taco. The Nashville hot chicken was ok, not super hot and the flavor was a little bland. The fish taco was fantastic! Super crispy fish with a corn slaw on top and the BEST chipotle sauce. The decor is kinda cool. It's super loud though. The tacos are straight up "gringo tacos" - like, whoever made 'em probably read about Mexican street tacos in a magazine on a plane and decided to make them having never had one in real life. The "OG Steak" taco had a weird super low quality steak - kinda like 'steak em' but with a greasy mealy mouthfeel. There was nothing steak about 'em - more like beef tacos. The al pastor is the king of tacos. The al pastor tacos had some unnecessary goopy dressing on 'em masking any potential deliciousness which is a shame. We love Strange Tacos! Being vegetarian, it's hard to find meat-free tacos. My fiance is constantly in the mood for Mexican food, and this is a place where we can meet in the middle. Not only do they have a vegetarian option, they have multiple! My favorite is the Brussels sprout taco, but all of them are so good. Visited this spot after a comedy show at Aurora Theatre down the street. I've heard of Strange Taco before, but I never had the privilege of trying it. Well on this day, I did. The Atmosphere: Pretty standard. Nothing really spectacular in this aspect. This place was definitely clean though. The Parking: There's a free parking lot behind the building. If that's full, there's plenty of free street parking. The Food: So, I ordered 3 tacos (Nashville Hot, Cajun Shrimp, & San Antonio). All three were AMAZING! Out of the three, I think I enjoyed the Cajun Shrimp the most. The tacos here taste VERY fresh & the food comes out in like 5 minutes or less. I've never been served my food that quickly. The Service: The customer service was OUTSTANDING. From the cashier to the folks in the back. Everyone was extremely nice, while going above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied & taken care of.
