The complimentary chips come with some good salsa - complex, and a good strong pepper flavor and a kick, as well as a yummy black bean dip (I liked to mix them both!). I ordered a combo platter with 4 items to try an assortment (all ground beef except the crispy rellenos). I got a taco, tostada, chimichanga and crispy rellenos, supreme (guacamole and sour cream). It was very good, especially when topped liberally with Tapatio (I love that stuff, and it blends so well with this kind of food!). I also ordered the alambras (or something like that) street tacos - beef, chorizo, and bacon. I was stuffed and got these to go for someone else, so just sampled it. It was good, but dry - in part because I didn't want to put Tapatio on food going to someone else. I liked it though, and want to try another kind of their street tacos next time. She ordered the house margarita and she said it was pretty good. She good a couple crispy rellenos and really liked them. read more

This Mexican restaurant is a hole in the wall place (now three holes in the walls due to them expanding) that's tucked away in an old strip mall, close to Bowles & Platte Canyon, the interior is colorful & you are usually greeted by a friendly employee. We have eaten here several times, and the food & service is typically fine. I wouldn't say it is the best I have had, but it is flavorful. Margaritas here are very sweet, and the tequila flavor was nonexistent. I have ordered Carne asada the past two times we have visited, and it was VERY tough (could barely chew it tough), they ask how you would like it cooked, but it doesn't matter- it is going to be served well done, which adds to the toughness of the meat. This past visit I asked to substitute the jalapenos for onions; I was charged $2.50! We also asked for more chips for the table and were charged $1.50. I understand food cost, so I do understand that charge. HOWEVER, I can go to any grocery store and purchase an entire 2lb. bag of organic onions for $2.89, so $2.50 for what looked like an eighth to a quarter of an onion was a bit steep, and if you are going to charge for SUBSTITUTING onion should you not refund for taking the jalapeno off? *This place will no longer be in the Mexican food rotation; there are better places out there where one doesn't get nickel and dimed for average at best food. read more

The staff are always incredibly friendly and attentive. I nearly fill up on the chips and salsa before my meal comes because the salsa is so good. You can't go wrong with any of their entrees. One of the few places where I venture outside of my comfort zone and am pleasantly surprised. We drive past probably 6 other Mexican restaurants to get here. One of my new regular spots! read more

I will never go back here again. After we were seated at a table on the patio, I noticed the closed umbrella in the middle of the table was completely blocking me from seeing my nephew across the table. So I clicked the little button to detach it from the rod (it was very lightweight and easy to detach) and set the closed umbrella aside the table. A couple minutes later, one of the employees came out and started berating me for "touching something that wasn't mine". I explained to him why I removed the umbrella, but he just continued to berate me and asked, "if you broke it would you pay to fix it." He was threatening and I felt unsafe. Solid 4 stars, service was five stars! This is a cute restaurant with several dining areas including a patio and a bar. Margaritas were good, the house was a little sweet for me, but the skinny was perfect! I liked my tacos, but I would order something that came with more fresh vegetables next time. The tacos de burria have a lot of shredded lamb and some mozzarella, but no fresh lettuce and tomato. That being said, it is a unique dish, a specialty at this restaurant and worth a try! My husband loved the molchajete burrito which included meat and seafood, rice, cheese etc. It was huge!! I couldn't believe he ate all of it. I agree that it was delicious as I had a bite! The atmosphere was very nice. The staff was friendly and had a sense of humor. They all seemed to get along very well, and many people checked on us throughout the meal. This time we went in to eat. Greeted by friendly staff. Very clean restaurant, loved the furniture. My husband and I talked about the wall paper and the furniture while we were waiting for our food. We had the carnitas plate, and mole. My husband said in all the years he has ordered this in CA, it was never this moist and delicious. He was pleased. I rarely order Mole, I just wanted to try there's. Let me tell you: DELICIOUS!! I was unable to finish (I love their beans and rice) and took the Mole home. My daughter tasted it, and said it was so good. In fact she took it with her for her lunch break (she works night shift) and shared with a girlfriend also from CA. They both agreed it was fantastic. Another excellent meal! Parking is plentiful. The location is excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. We went early so it wasn't full. They always have music playing in the background. Margaritas were actually pretty good! They do offer outdoor sitting which is nice during these crazy times we're living. The food is pretty good and the prices are pretty affordable compared to other places in the area. They serve complimentary chips and salsa along with a bean dip which has a bit of a kick to it :) For $11 you can get 3 decent size steak tacos with rice and beans and a hot sauce to share. The enchiladas I hear are pretty good as well. Try them out and see for yourself but there's definitely a good option of Mexican good in the neighborhood if you're looking for a margarita night with some food to celebrate the end of the week. read more

What a delightful excuse to overeat! I happened upon this place yesterday with my husband and son after a visit to Chatfield Dog Park (alas, no dogs allowed, so my pup had to wait outside). Our server was very friendly and cheerful- the food came out quickly and was hot. I like how they serve a steaming hot side of beans with the chips and salsa to start. I've never seen that done before and it was a nice touch. My son had the kid's quesadilla which was served with rice and beans - tasty, but I'm afraid he may have filled up on my husband's and my horchatas (they're pretty big- next time he and I will probably be five to split one). We shared a smothered breakfast burrito with bacon- SO good, and the Don Juan burrito since it had steak and we wanted to save a morsel or two for our waiting pup. The French fries inside this burrito were super yummy, but next time I'd either stick with the smothered breakfast burrito, do the chile rellano burrito, the chilequilles or go totally outside the box (for me) and try one of their sopas. The table across from us ordered them and I had food envy, even though I ate so well and so much I had to go home and take a nap. We've gone to Don Juan's a couple of times now. Everyone is super friendly and attentive. The food is good. I've tried a combo plate with a chicken flauta, relleno, enchildada, and I've also had the mexican hamburger. Hubby was kind enough to share his carne asada tacos, so I got to try those too. I just haven't found my favorite dish yet. The green chile is good and I like the beans and rice. I'm not giving up on them yet, lol. I'm sure I'll find my go to dish, I'll just have to keep trying. This was my first time here and I got to try the: tortilla chips, bean salsa, red salsa, steak sope, Al pastor burrito and horchata. The food was good and the chips were hot and crispy. The service from the workers here was great. Staff was warm and friendly, and also helpful with questions and additional requests. My friend had the birria tacos and said they were really good too. What better way to start a long weekend than with fresh, local Mexican food? NOTHING! Recently my husband and I met up with some of my family to experience Don Juan's. Having my cousin rave about this local gem, I knew we had to check it out. Here were the takeaways: STAR #1: The sweetest owner and staff - period! Because my cousin and his girlfriend frequent this place, we were greeted right away with shots of tequila and a smile. The owners were welcoming, friendly, gave us the run down of their establishment and made us feel right at home! STAR #2: Unique flavors and delicious dishes! The menu is HUGE and I had a hard time narrowing down what to order and turned to my cousin. He insisted I try the Shrimp Diablo - as I'm a sucker for anything seafood based and anything spicy! Not only was my shrimp cooked to perfection, but it was perfectly presented and deliciously spicy! My cousin opted for the fried cactus plate which came in a HUGE pig shaped bucket, filled ot the brim with all the fixin's. It was so unique! Other notable dishes - the bacon wrapped shrimp and the enchiladas! STAR #3: Full bar - enough said! We sipped on fresh margaritas, cold corona's and gold tequila! Although the margarita was a bit odd tasting, it still hit the spot. STAR #4: Easy to find, ample parking and TONS of space for parties large or small! The space is splashed with color and starting to get a better feel for their space! I have to knock a star off for the pricing of each dish. While the portions are huge, they are quite pricey and tend to add up fast. With four of us ordering a few drinks, our own entree's and dessert - our bill came out to be a whopping $250! Thankfully we split the bill, but OYE! Despite my only con, I know we'll come back here for lunch or another notable meal with family! read more

Meet a group of friends for lunch. The food, as always, was delicious. But I really want to give a shout out to the staff. Upon arrival I was greeted with a welcoming smile. Once seated a drink, chips and salsa was brought to the table. As my friends arrived they were also made to feel welcomed. Orders were quickly taken, warm yummy food was delivered in a timely manner and our server periodically checked on us. The restaurant is cheerfully decorated in a Mexican style.
