This was, hands down, the most disgusting Mexican "food" I've ever had. It was horribly inedible. My Supreme Quesadilla with shredded chicken resembled soup more than anything else. The guacamole was runny and a strange pastel greenish, the refried beans were grey, and there was almost no cheese. I barely stomached a few bites before deciding it was definitely against my best interests to continue. And the beef burrito had some kind of mystery meat that would never even pass for ground chuck. Rather than complain to the girl at the counter (who cared more about her personal conversations than taking orders), I counted it as a $12 loss and tossed it all. Lesson learned. Whelp, this is the second time I've paid $7.00 for a Chile relleno super burrito, and was given a burrito with rice, sour cream and guacamole...but no Chile relleno. The last time, I pulled it apart to find some diced green chiles but no cheese anywhere. This time, there's not a whisp of chiles or cheese anywhere. Because I don't want to jump back in my car and drive across Gresham to return it, both times I've sighed and stayed home to eat what I have. I like this place. I would like to continue liking it. Great food at great prices. They have a wonderful dollar menu (kids love it). Daily combo specials. Love the flavor of their shredded beef. Tacos are loaded with cheese. They do NOT skimp on the meat and fixings of their offerings. Staff here are all very friendly. Restaurant including the bathrooms have always been tidy. They can be very busy during peak hours which can make for longer than usual wait times. Call in your order ahead of time and just go into pick it up. read more

Today I ordered a fajitas party platter for my Christmas dinner party and it was absolutely delicious, I placed my order earlier in the day and when I stopped to pick up it was warm and ready to go. The portion size was more than enough to feed my family and guests and was absolutely wonderful, neatly prepared and tasted amazing! Don Ladis has been a staple lunch joint for me for the last year or so. It is exactly what it needs to be- fast, inexpensive, delicious, and authentic. The walk-up service is friendly and efficient. The food is very consistently good. The menu offers a lot of variety, so it's easy to mix and match depending on your mood and hunger. The salsa bar near the counter has a bunch of choices, and I have to recommend the orange habanero sauce- great heat and great flavor. read more

I've been here twice now and the first time was soon after they had opened and I found a screw in my taco. Yes, a SCREW!! Since the name of the shop had changed I thought it might be worth giving them another chance. Note to self: listen to your instincts!!! First the salsas are good, but that's where it ends. I ordered a carne asada burrito and it was a gross and greasy mess!!! I think they put guacamole in it, maybe pico de gallo, but all I could taste was grease and onions. My burrito came with a side of rice and beans and somehow they messed up the rice, it was bland and just not good. Maybe someone rinsed out a tomato sauce can and added it to the rice water?? That's what it tasted like. Thankfully my husband and I only ate about 1/4 of our burritos for the sake of our digestive systems. Not planning on reliving that experience again. read more

So we had to check our bill twice thinking they'd forgotten to charge us for something - they hadn't. It was really that inexpensive. And their menu has, as they told me, something for everyone. Apparently you can even get your al pastor on french fries if the need arises! And french fries are one of my favorite food groups. $4 for hubby's burrito al pastor that weighed a ton! Come on now! AND he LIKED it! and ate the whole thing! I got something that's almost impossible to find around here - a vegetarian TAMALE! Yep - cheese tamale with a wonderful red sauce, salsa, lettuce, sour cream - for some ridiculous cheap price I can't remember - maybe $2 or $2.50? The masa was so fresh tasting and there was a lot of cheesy goodness unlike other non-meat tamales I've eaten. Topped off with fresh radishes, cucumbers, and fiery carrots drenched with fresh lime from the condiment bar. Yummy. The bar had a large variety of sauces ranging from mild to liquid fire. Something for everyone. I also tried something new - a potato taco for $1 - that was a tasty surprise - the taco shell had been cooked to order and was flaky and crispy with smashed potato, lettuce, and a ton of cheese. I liked it! The horchata was soooo good. Different than Don Pedros but equally refreshing and light and flavorful. The fifth star is for delightfully friendly Stephanie and Sonya (spelling?) who bring light and joy to that little restaurant with their sunny attitudes. And also for the general cleanliness. Big portions low prices. They have squirt bottles of different salsa to take to your table. Cucumber, radish, pickled carrots, limes and cilantro are also available at the salsa bar. The order of 5 rolled tacos comes with guacamole, shredded cheese and shredded lettuce. If you only order 3 rolled tacos they come without the lettuce. The food the first time we ordered was very, very good! I had the carne asada nachos and my friend had the chili rellenos and cheese enchilada which she really enjoyed. A few days later we were craving Mexican food again and she wanted the same and I wanted to try their steak fajitas.....there was a big problem with the steak. I've tried this place twice and I'm not impressed. First off, the customer service isn't great... I don't really appreciate the cashier yelling my order over her shoulder to the kitchen... Or hearing her yell every order as I'm trying to enjoy my meal. The tables and floor were dirty both times. Their hot sauce bottles are not labeled well. The first time I tried the fish tacos meal and a potato taco. The fish was over breaded and not much flavor. The potato taco was so bland, I could only suffer a few bites. The beans and rice were also bland. The second time I tried a chile relleno and enchilada meal. The chile relleno was small and was poorly put together. The chicken in the enchilada was ok, but the enchilada sauce was just water and grease. Again, bland beans and rice. The beans are so light, they resemble a gray lard paste with cheese on top of it. I have heard good things about Chuy's Taco Shop for some time, so today after getting snow tires put on by the friendly folks at America's Tire, I stopped in to grab lunch. There is nothing fancy about this place, but that is fine by me..a place doesn't have to be fancy to be great. The menu has a dozen or so different types of burritos, all $4. All the taco varieties, about the same number, are $2. They have a wide variety of other Mexican dishes, like Tortas, etc on the menu. Regarding the burritos, my eyes nearly fell out of my head, as I started thinking "They must be tiny to be so cheap." Wrong, Joe. I ordered the Carne Asada burrito, which is a really good size, and two tacos; the Pollo Asada and Carnitas taco. The burrito wasn't the largest I've had (I'm thinking of Ole' Ole' Ole's on Burnside), but it certainly wasn't small. The burrito was delicious, wrapped in a nice toasted flour tortilla. The ingredients were all fresh, the steak was cooked perfectly and together, it danced the merengue in my mouth. While the burrito and the pollo asada taco were fantastic, the Carnitas taco was, perhaps, the best carnitas I've EVER HAD. It was delicious. It was also $2. Did I mention that? Both tacos came in a corn tortilla, and included fresh onions, cilantro and other fixings. For, like, $8 (math has never been my strength) I had a lunch that was cheaper and better than any food cart burrito, or even Baja Fresh. Same with the tacos. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because I had a bit of a wait for my order, a little longer considering how few people were there..but do not let that dissuade you. Any wait is worth it. Why go to the nearby Burger King to pay more for lessor food (and service, in my opinion). Chuy's is also superior to the nearby Baja Fresh, that now will no longer get as much of my business, if any. read more

I have been a faithfull customer back since it was called muchus gracias and when they closed the doors i spent my time crying in corners longing for them to return. I am so happy that they are back and chuy is cooking better than ever. This is my favorite mexican restaurant in Oregon. Decently priced, honest-to-gods Mexican food straight outta SoCal. Anyone from LA will be grateful for the food here, especially in Portland where $1.50 street food tacos go for double price because "organic" and "sustainable" have become overused punchlines by (some) restaurants to charge you more for the same. They were nice enough to let me try the al pastor and carnitas for free when I asked them which one was better. (They were both great!) The only downside is that they're all the way out in Gresham.
